An Inexpensive, Do-It-Yourself Water Well http://www.fdungan.com/well.htm Makivenzi Water Project: Complete! http://thewaterproject.org/water_well_kenya_africa.asp A freshwater well costs $3,500-$10,000 and can serve an average of 500 people with clean water for 20 years. So, for $20, one person in Africa is provided with clean what happens next?

After a well is installed, charity: water partners work directly with villagers, teaching them how to maintain and fix their well and hand pump device, while also conducting basic hygiene and sanitati on classes

Still, the six year old kept doing chores around his parents' house, even after he learned it could take him years to earn enough money. Then a friend of the family wrote an article in the local newspaper about Ryan's wish to build a well to supply people with safe, clean water. Before long, ripples of goodwill began spreading. People started sending money to help pay for Ryan's well. Ryan was interviewed on television. He appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, twice. His dream of a well became an international news story http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&ISBN=9781553379676&ourl=Ryan%2Dand%2DJimmy%2FHerb%2DShoveller ------------------The "average" cost to build a well in Africa is $3,000. And that well could easily serve a community of 700 people (more or less), depending on how condense the area is. For example, if it's located at a school, an orphanage, or center of a local village vs. refugee camp for displaced persons, where it may top 1,000 recipients. The greatest thing is, the people will benefit from the clean water for their lifetime!

Now sometimes Blood:Water Mission works on repairing existing wells. Often these are wells that may have been built in the past by other organizations or companies with very good intentions, but then became in disrepair because the people of the village were never taught how to properly care for their well and take ownership of the project. These repairs can cost as little as $500 to $1,500. The beauty of BWM's work is that the people of the village are a great part of not only organizing and assisting with the installation of their well, but actually form committees to oversee the use, routine maintenace, and overall safety of the well. That really makes a difference to the longevity of the well and actually boosts morale of the people too, because it's their project.

Finally, it has a lot to do with the terrain (soil conditions)in the area that the well is being placed at. For instance,if the water table is extremely low and the climate is terribly dry, wells can cost as much as $15,000 U.S. dollars to complete.

It's also good to know that fresh water wells aren't the only clean water source that BWM works with. They also protect natural fresh water springs and install rainwater catchment tanks.http://www.bloodwatermission.com/index.php?&content=board&brd=topic_222314__0

Answer
conquering fear is kinda hard, since everyone has different fears.
in a camp i once did trust fall, but that might be unrealistic.
how about blind lead? it's when you pair everybody up, in each pair one person gets blindfolded and the other directs that person through obstacles (like stairs or around tables, simple things). though i'm not sure if that's more of trust than courage :/
