simple wedding centerpieces/table decor?

soon tobe

Have anyone ever seen the diamond table scatter/crystal gems on tables at weddings? Where they with candles? I am thinking of doing this and wanted to know if it was in good taste or does it look cheap and tacky? Thanks

Answer
This is what we're having for our centerpieces. We're using these candle sticks:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/smiley_in_nyc/longstemmedglasscandleholders.jpg

I got them from DollarTree.com

And I'm scattering seashells and dried aqua flowers around them for our beach theme wedding. I'm sure you can use the diamonds instead.

Road Trip near Little Rock, Arkansas......... where to go?

Ade

If you were in Little Rock, Arkansas, and wanted to go on a road trip because you're new to the state and know nothing about your surrounding states, and just want to take a 1 day or weekend road trip, where would you suggest? No camping, no kids, just stuff like, plantations, or riverboats, or Texas, whats to see around here?

Answer
Considering that it's January, and you don't want to camp (neither would I this time of year), you still have several options that would keep you entertained for a weekend of fun.

Option 1. Branson, Missouri. -- It would be about a 3 hour drive. Even if you aren't big into country music, there are a zillion things to do there. You can eat great food, go see comedy shows, shop for rustic arts and crafts, take boat tours, see the School of the Ozarks Museum where there's interesting anthropology exhibits unique to the area, you could see Marvel Cave, a huge and beautiful cave near Branson, or just drive around Table Rock Lake and Taneycomo lake and soak up the scenery. There's also a really cool trout hatchery at the dam. If you are into country music, then you'll be like a pig in mud. You can't throw a rock without hitting a country music show. Lots of the big stars of the 70's and 80's got tired of the b.s. in Nashville and headed west for the small town lifestyle and slower pace of Branson, and they are still excellent musicians. Likewise, you'll hear some local talent that will make you wonder why they aren't famous.
Finding a quality bed and breakfast or hotel room would not be a big deal this time of year. In fact, I'm guessing this would be one of the least expensive vacations of your life.

Option 2: You could go to Hot Springs, which is even closer to Little Rock than Branson. You can soak in natural hot springs, and see turn of the century architecture. There's delicious dining, nature trails, and various other attractions. I'm not as familiar with Hot Springs as I am Branson, but I've been there, and it's a cool place.

Option 3: Do you fish? If so, you are fairly close to the Little Missouri, the Red River (much different than in oklahoma), and Taneycomo lake. Right now, the bass fishing sucks. However, the trout fishing should be excellent. Taneycomo has world class trout, up to 20 lbs (I am not kidding here). They are rare, mostly they'll be smaller and plentiful, but the biggies do get caught. If you are really adventuresome, hire a guide and do some winter smallmouth fishing on the Ouchita river in the trophy smallmouth area near Mena, Arkansas, about an hour and a half west of Little Rock. The Caddo river is also excellent. It's smaller and less developed, and not as deep, but the fishing is great. I'd go for the Ouchita in the winter though.

Option 4. Little Rock is only about 4 hours from Memphis, and if you can make it there, you have a whole world of barbecue, blues, and tradition to check out. I can't say much about Memphis, but if you are looking for someplace big to go have some fun, this would be it.

i have questions about Bull Shoals Lake Resort?!?!?

Baby

Well me and my mom want to go on a vacation and we been looking. I came across Bull Shoals Lake but i was wondering the atractions near and around. Also if its a good area to go, we will be going on the arkansas side instead of missouri. Also i was wondering if you could fload in a tube on the lake . i heard there was a river but im not sure so please help me :)
so any info you have is helpful please and thank you :)

Answer
Bull Shoals is a large Corps of Engineers lake on the white river. There are about 45K surface acres of water at normal pool, but the water is very high this year so the lake has much more surface area. The water is clear and very deep. There would not be much good area for floating on a tube unless you go up to the start of the lake near Forsyth. The only down side of this is that the outflow from Table Rock lake and Lake Taneycomo will make the water temperature much colder the closer you get to the headwaters. Forsyth is close to Branson where you will find lots of entertainment, hotel and eating options. There are lots of camp grounds on both the Missouri and Arkansas sides of the lake, some with marinas where you can rent boats. This is a very rustic/natural lake, so there are not a lot of options on the main lake short of fishing, scuba diving, swimming and boating.

Creative ideas for an outdoor table?

rjsmith717

My husband and I just moved into a new home and the previous owners left a very nice wooden bench that I am planning to place alongside my garden. I would really love an outdoor seating area, but can't afford to purchase a new patio set. Does anyone out there have some creative ideas for building an outdoor table to go along with the bench?

Thanks!

Answer
yes...you could put together a table with a large garden urn with a sheet of tempered glass. This makes a nice "coffee table" for an informal seating area in your garden.

a garden table and bench cost $750 combined. the cost of the table is 2 times the cost of the bench.?

draconis

what is the cost of the bench? Im clueless

Answer
Total = $750
750/3 = 250
250x2 = 500

The table costs $500.
The bench costs $250.

What are some good park/outdoor locations to have a wedding around SLC, UT?

Kylee

We are looking to get married in the first part of August. We are on a tight budget and think that an outdoor park might be a great location for a ceremony without a high cost. What are some beautiful parks around Salt Lake City that you think might be good for a ceremony/reception?

Answer
here are a few ideas for the salt lake area.

for parks, you want to go with the state parks. city/county parks in the area are not that great for weddings. but the state parks offer some very nice places. "this is the place" is an historic area which has some lovely spots for a wedding and reception available for rent. you can rent the pine valley chapel on a saturday for 295 dollars for afternoon and 495 for evening. plenty of other locations at this park as well. http://www.thisistheplace.org/rentals/weddings_receptions.shtml

wasatch mountain st park has a chalet which you can rent for 250 dollars for the entire day. it holds up to 100 people and has a full kitchen. there is a nice fenced in grassy area for an outdoor ceremony included. http://www.stateparks.utah.gov/parks/wasatch

rockport state park has a lovely old church which can hold up to 75 people which rents for weddings. there is also a campground at the old church where you can have an outdoor reception. the church rents for 250 dollars and the campground from 150. there are also 4 pavilions in the park where you could have the reception which rent for 100 each. http://www.stateparks.utah.gov/parks/rockport

parks are an inexpensive venue for a wedding, but you have to do all the work of either providing your own food, table linens and place settings, drink, bartenders, decorations, wedding cake, officiant... on and on. sometimes it is actually a better deal to go with a place where all of that is provided for a flat rate. the following are some ideas for venues where they provide much of what you need for lovely wedding for pretty reasonable rates.

http://www.aspenlanding.com/ they rent their venue for 1000 but include nearly everything you need except the food and drink which starts at around 5 dollars per person for dessert buffet or 7.50 for regular buffet.

http://theoldmeetinghouse.com/ this place offers even the wedding cake in their package. their food starts at 5.50 per person and the price for the place is 1650.

another all inclusive spot is murray chapel and gardens. http://www.wrightwayenterprises.com/mc.htm

two more places to check are http://www.millcreekinn.com/ and http://www.altaperuvian.com/weddings.php

Question about table linens and tableware for weddings.?

Hikari

I'm in the beginning stages of designing my outdoor wedding and reception (all taking place at the groom's parents' house), however, I'm not entirely sure what I should do about table linens and tableware. Also, I imagine maybe 5 small-ish banquet tables will be rented. And a bunch of buffet tables (already-owned?) will be shoved together for a buffet-style reception dinner. Guest list is a total of 40 people.

I hear that it's more convenient to rent table linens... however, I'm not sure how much variety there is at rental places. I really want textured, Midnight Blue table linens for all my tables. No lace, ribbon, or anything fancy. Just a reflective, vibrant, Midnight Blue that has a nice a drape. Something that would contrast very well with candlelight and outdoor lanterns (the wedding will be late afternoon and reception will begin at dusk). I would also settle for Indigo, but Midnight Blue is my strong preference.

As for tableware, I really don't want anything TOO fancy. Plates that come in basic yellow or white, and basic silverware. Should I bother renting tableware? I'm sure I can borrow forks and knives from family and friends. And plates and cups I think I could probably buy myself, if there's a cheap alternative I could go with. Or is there a standard for wedding tableware that I should be following?

Answer
I don't know where you are, but I rented place settings from a local party store. We got a dinner plate, a bread/appetizer plate, 3 untensils, a coffee cup and saucer all for $2.20. Times 40 guests, that's $88.00. They also had linens in all kinds of colors for 5-7 dollars depending on the size.
I'm glad to hear you're not using plastic tableware. Even the upgraded stuff looks cheap, and you can't cut any kind of meat.

Im trying to make my garage out of a small gym/ entertainment room.?

ohni0000

I want to put tv, pool table, bowflex, weight bench and ab lounger. I want to know what can I cover the concrete with? Is there a type of flooring /soft material that I can put down??

Answer
what you can do is instead of buying a real carpet. my sister bought like a huge rug! she put it in her room downstares. it looks like carpet but its not. you can find them at most department stores!! hope this helped

I want to glue pictures to ceramic tile and grout in onto a cement table to put outside. Any ideas?

jhebert

Answer
glue the picture that you like to the suface of each tile, then use a multiflex thinset to adhere to the concrete bench. (ultraflex II is great, available at lowes.) grout 24 hours after the last tile is set, then i would paint a coat of varnish or shalack over the entire surface to protect the pictures and grout. good luck.
