My husband is Army and in Korea and where I live there is an Air Force base. I heard you can rent camping equipment and other stuff from there. Is this true and if so what all is there to rent for camping? And are the prices reasonable?

the out door rec building has a bunch of things. camping. BBQ, bounce houses, chairs, tables. all sorts of things.

i was going to get a bounce house for my son's b-day. they were $50 and normally $65 down town. so a little cheaper.

it will depend on the kind of camping you want to do. if you are talking tents and sleeping bags. them walmart might just be better, then you own them and can go more often. but if you are looking for an RV, the kind you pull with your truck. then they are good priced. different areas have different prices. i think the RV's were $85-175 a day depending on size.

since your hubby is in NK. you will need your POA.. since he is army and not actually assigned to the AF base near by. so check to make sure they will allow you to do the pick up.

How do I plan a successful camping trip without overstressing so I can enjoy it too?

We want to keep it cheap and this is my first time planning my husband's squadron camp-out and it's still two weeks away and I just can't keep things organized and I'm having a hard time getting people to cooperate. My wife and I used to do this...a LOT!

We cooked breakfast every morning. Lunches were on your own. Dinners were we cooked the meat and the other campers provided the side dishes.

Everyone paid $15 toward the meals we provided. That didn't cover the actual cost, but it came pretty close because I used a lot of things from home that I already had. Salt and pepper shakers, cooking oil, margarine, etc.

Pancakes are cheap. Scrambled eggs with bits of ham and cheese is easy. Potatoes are cheap. I had an electric table top griddle that I used for breakfast. We camped where they had hook-ups.

Everyone is responsible to provide their own sleeping equipment and ice chests, etc.

You either want to get what is called a "group site", or several camping "spaces" together. Ask the park ranger how many vehicles are allowed per space. The more people you can get in a space, the cheaper the space.

Find out if there is someone in the squadron that has access to free firewood.

Distribute lists of what each person is responsible for. They need to bring 2 lunches for themselves and provide a side dish for 2 dinners for the group. Their $15, will provide 3 breakfasts and 2 dinners. They need to bring their own plates. utensils, and drinks.

Have set meal times for breakfast and dinner. Since they are on their own for lunch, you will have all day to enjoy yourself.

You can plan some games, or get someone else who would like to do that. Water-filled balloon toss. Hairy man contest. Whatever you think would work with the group you have.

Sitting around the fire in the evening is a great time to share "The Most Embarrassing Moment" story, or who can tell the biggest lie.

You can do any variations on this you want. Depending on budget, where the money comes from, what if anything you are able to get donated. You may find a store that is willing to donate if "Squadron" indicates your husband and other campers are in the military.

You can find junk in your garage, such as an old fuel pump or something and write "Hairy Man Trophy" on it with a magic marker. Much more fun than the real thing.

You are limited by your imagination much more than you are by lack of helpful participants. You will be finding people willing to help out when you actually get there.

I am a beginner at woodworking. I understand everything about my project except for how the drawers will go. I'm trying to imagine the best way to do it. I have access to a router, table saw, circular saw, miter saw and various other tools. Please guide me in your opinion on what would be the best way to make these drawers.

Go look at the way the draws work on your: desk, kitchen counter, bureau, etc. Draws are basically boxes that ride on metal tracks or wood slats. In the case of a woodworking bench I'd stick to wood slats.

Tuscan themed dining room and living room ideas?

My house is a raised ranch. My living rrom and dining room, hallway and entry way are all the same wall basically. I painted it a mustard yellowy golden color for walls. The ceiling is a buttery yellowish color. I have a dining room set that could adapt to the Tuscan theme. I am changing my old living room furniture. What should I buy? I want a love seat and 2 side chairs only. Coffee table and probably 1 end table. I was looking on line for pictures of Tuscan decor. I can't find them. I'm finding pictures of places in Italy but not appropriate for my budget or taste. What colors should I buy for furniture? My kitchen is in a dark red brickcolor which goes well with the gold in the other rooms, since you see all the rooms as you come up the staris and I have red and gold accent pieces in my kitchen.

I went with a Tuscan theme in my house too. Burgundy, yellow, turquoise, olive green are my colors. I have an open floor plan and plan on painting all my walls a goldish brown.
Southern living has unique Tuscan style housewares, see site below, I have the olive jar.

I think an olive green love seat or chaise in velvet would look classy perhaps a few wrought iron pieces (benches, end tables, side chairs painted black) old vintage posters or replicas, postcards and wood signs look cool. An old farm kitchen table can be used behind the sofa/loveseat or the legs cut off for a coffee table. Small ceramic tiles are a neat accent on a shelf or hung in multiples on the wall, over a window or a door. Chandeliers, sconces, wine rack and pottery add the feel of Tuscany.

here's a little project for ya;
get a shadow box and fill with winecorks or toss a bunch of corks in a basket.

I know this could be anything but I just moved into my new house. I have been here for a week. Since we moved in a dug out a fire pit. I put up a fence for the dogs and kids in the backyard. And now im lost and still want to do more. Tell me what I can do next!!!

Paint. There are paints with chalkboard and/or magnetic effects which can be cool for a children's room (they can use chalk and alphabet/numeric magnets on the wall). You could paint each room- I saw an effect recently that I liked where three of the walls were the same solid color, and on the fourth wall it had been painted the color around the edges of the wall but the middle was a different color (the three walls were a maroon color and the middle of the fourth wall was a cream color). It looked really interesting- a "frame" effect.

Build window planters/flower boxes for the windows.

Build a picnic table so you can enjoy your new back yard- I like the octagon shaped ones. There are also kits where you can build two park-style benches that convert to a picnic table to give you mroe versatility.

Build a sandbox for the children- this is really simple, actually, and not very expensive.

Install new toilets. Something about used toilets bother me, personally.

Add more shelving- those wire shelves are sturdy, inexpensive and easy to install (Closet Maid).

Do something decorative to your mailbox.

Paint your front door and/or shutters a bold color.

Plant a flowerbed.

Put up a birdhouse (bought or built), bird feeder and/or birdbath.

Your options are limitless- owning a home is an ongoing project.

Help with remembering the name of a toy from the 80's.?

The set of toys came with dolls. The toys were probably from the mid 80's. They were not large. One that I still have is a fireplace with a bench. The fireplace opens and becomes an outdoor area with a bbq that opens (came with tongs) and the benches legs reverse and the bench becomes a picnic table. I also remember one of them was a music stage with a guitar and drums but can't remember what it converted into. Not sure who made them. Anyone familiar with this toy please let me know. Thanks.

Make a large wooden sign at the entrance to the "Camp Site" and have other signs pointing the way to the toilets and showers, picnic area and wildlife trail.
Set the tents around a central seating area with the campfire as a centerpiece. Lay out low benches for sitting on or just use mats or planks of wood balanced on rocks.
Decorate the inside of the tents with streamers and balloons
Around the edges of the camp, erect some citronella torches. These will keep the bugs away and add to the camp atmosphere.
Place cuddly toys in the tress and bushes for the younger kids to discover or for the older kids, hang plastic bugs around the camp. Use glow in the dark bugs and stars which will be fun later on when it gets dark.
Hang multi colored Chinese lanterns around the garden. Some kids just can't help playing with candles so be careful where you place them.
Set up a food table and cover with green or camouflage cloth. Use plastic tableware or tin plates and cups. Provide bug stickers for each child to personalize his/her own plate and mug. It saves muddling them up.
You can also add:
Bug stickers and tattoes
T-shirts with the name of the camp and date of the birthday camping party

I need to re-paint outdoor chair cushions with weather resistant paint. I don't know what product to use.

My outdoor table and chair set was given to me about 2-3 years ago and the cushions were previously painted bright blue with some kind of weather-resistance paint. The paint is starting to wear off, but the cushions are still in very good condition. I want to re-paint the cushions, but don't know what product was used before. The lady that painted them before has since passed away, so I can't ask her. I have looked at craft stores, but haven't found any fabric paint that is specifically weather-resistant. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Acrylic craft paints such as Patio Paint should do the job. Also, regular acrylic craft paints are very weather/fade resistant. I painted a foam flower pot several years ago and it still looks great. You can get both of these at craft stores.

Wax or stain for outdoor wooden furniture?

I have painted clear garden furniture oil on my (very thirsty) outdoor table and chairs, but the stain colour was wearing off where the wood had been really weathered and so the furniture actually looks no better. Can I now use a wood stain, or will it not be adhere properly I realise I should have done this first!

If you have clear coated the furniture then no, stain won't stick.

The solution will require much more work. I'd start by stripping the paint off with a paint stripper (chemical). Be careful not to get it on your hands or clothing. Once you've stripped the paint off you can sand the wood to bring out the natural wood grain. Then I'd suggest using a "Gel Stain". It's more durable. Finally, I'd follow that up with at least three coats of Poly Urethane.

Looking for help putting together a waterfall theme wedding?

Hey all, so my fiancée proposed to me at our favorite spot, a waterfall. So in light of that we have decided to do a waterfall theme wedding with blue silver and white. (The blue is the blue in a peacock feather) Now I am finding a lot in beach, but no thank you. I want waterfall. And I am planning on DIYing my wedding so that's not a problem. Would just like any tips, or site suggestions, you could give. Thank you so much!!

The best solution would be to have a wedding at a waterfall. If that isn't a possibility, you might add specific touches that are keeping with the theme. That sounds like what you want. But you may have to get creative on this, which you've probably discovered. (Like you said, for a beach theme, you can always bring in sand and sea shells, but you can't actually carry a waterfall.)

Turn your venue into a art piece that is reminiscent of a waterfall. Plenty of greenery and stones might help with the setting. Well almost any pub you go to in Ireland and the UK is not far off. Most of them have some kind of personality of the owner and his or her likes. If you are into the Republic of Ireland and how it was started and pictures of Michael Collins on the wall. Or if you came from a fishing family like that think of what kind of personality you want it to have. Is it something that respresents all type of people and cultures and go for it.

The furniture in a pub is very different not uniformed so they have booths in some parts with chairs of stools or they may have an area with plush chairs and comfy tables or a even a comfy bench against a wall with a long table.

Food is pub food small sandwiches and chips (fries) or some pubs sell meals. The bathrooms have always been very clean in Ireland. Not cold

we have 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsman, plus us. so 14 adults total. my idea was to have each couple sit at a high top/pub table using bar stools or something with height so that we are still elevated about the guest tables. any suggestions or ideas? thoughts?

i don't know about you but i don't think i'd want to sit on a stool in a bridesmaid's dress...much less a wedding dress...
maybe if you could find a long bench or just large stools it would be ok - but stools generally have very little sitting area & i would have a problem getting comfortable...not to mention they tend to be less stable then normal chairs...maybe it's just me...
maybe you could have someone build a platform to put a normal table & chairs on so you get the height without making it an awkward place to sit?

1 1/2 oz Light Rum

Club Soda
Directions
In a tall thin glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lemon juice and stir thoroughly. Top with ice. Add rum and mix. Top off with *chilled* club soda (or seltzer). Add a lemon slice and the remaining mint, and serve.

Chicken Luau

2 pounds chicken breasts
2 tablespoons macadamia nut oil
2 teaspoons minced garlic
4 cups chicken stock
3 boxes (10 oz. each) frozen whole leaf spinach, thawed
1 1/2 cups coconut milk
Remove skin and bones from chicken breasts; reserve for stock if desired. Cut chicken into 1-inch cubes. Heat oil in a large skillet and saute chicken and garlic until light brown. Add stock, cover, and simmer 10 minutes or until chicken is tender. Drain spinach and stir spinach and coconut milk into skillet. Simmer for 5 minutes. Makes 8 servings.

Haupia
1 can (12 oz.) coconut milk
4 to 6 tablespoons sugar
4 to 6 tablespoons cornstarch
3/4 cup water
Pour coconut milk into a saucepan. Combine sugar and cornstarch; stir inwater and blend well. Stir sugar mixture into coconut milk; cook and stir over low heat until thickened. Pour into 8-inch square pun and chill until firm. Cut into 2-inch squares. Makes 16 servings.

Kalua Pork

4 to 5 pound pork butt
1 tablespoon liquid smoke
2 1/2 tablespoons Hawaiian salt
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Rub pork with liquid smoke and 1 1/2 tablespoons of the Hawaiian salt. Wrap pork in foil and seal completely. Place pork in roasting pan and bake for 5 hours. After baking, shred pork, sprinkle with the remaining Hawaiian salt. Makes 10 servings.

Hawaiian Pickled Onions
1 green bell pepper
1 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen small whole onions
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon Hawaiian salt
Crushed red pepper to taste
Remove seeds and membrane from bell pepper, slice into 1/4-inch strips. Place bell pepper and onions in a glass jar. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over vegetables. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight, shake occasionally. Makes 8 servings.

Pineapple Luau Style
Cut a thick slice from the top and bottom of an unpeeled pineapple. Remove center of pineapple in a single cylinder, leaving 1/2-inch of the fruit inside the rind. Cut peeled fruit in quarters lengthwise, remove core and cut into eight spears. Replace bottom piece; refill shell with spears and replace top. Serve by removing crown and pulling out the pineapple spears. Makes 8 servings.

2 pound ahi fillet (or other firm white fish)
1 Maui onion, chopped
4 stalks thinly sliced green onions
1 tablespoon grated ginger
2 Hawaiian chili peppers, seeded and minced

1 tablespoon sesame oil
Hawaiian salt to taste
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
Cut fish into cubes. In a large bowl combine fish, onion, green onions, ginger, chili peppers, soy sauce, sesame oil and salt; mix lightly. Chill for several hours. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Makes 8 servings.

Aloha Sweet Potatoes
4 to 5 medium sweet potatoes
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup shredded coconut
Boil sweet potatoes in their jackets until tender, about 25 minutes. Let cool, then peel and cut into
slices 1 1/2-inch thick. In a large skillet melt butter. Stir in brown sugar and water and cook on medium heat about 5 minutes. Reduce heat and add sweet potatoes to skillet. Cook gently; tossing lightly until sweet potatoes are glazed. Sprinkle with coconut before serving. Makes 8 servings.

WikiWiki Lomilomi Salmon
1 can (14.75 oz.) red salmon
3 tomatoes, diced
1/3 cup thinly sliced green onions
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoon water
1 cup crushed ice
Shred salmon. Mix together salmon, tomatoes, green onions, onion and water; stir gently. Chill several hours or overnight. Add ice just before serving. Makes 8 servings.
Note: In Hawaii salted salmon is usually used in this dish. If you substitute salted salmon be sure to soak for several hours, changing the water several times, before shredding.

if you want to use Both shells & sand :
-- a hydroponic jar. fill transparent glass jar with pebbles [optional], sand & shells. use this to anchor some real [or artificial] plants. it would make a great arrangement.
-- in a jar or fish bowl, add sand & shells decoratively. fill with water. add some artificial fish [you get glass fish that are tied to a glass bubble that can float !]. add artificial plants & other aquarium adornments.
-- make a wall-piece landscape/beachside scene/seascape by gluing the sand & shells & dried flowers, leaves, pot-puorri herbs, etc. Or arrange the shells to form flowers & use sand to fill background.
you can also paint over the sand & shells to add details...
-- you can make an artificial landscape depicting either a sea shore or a rockery garden with "cobbled" pathways. first lay out your plants, pebbles, sand, shells, artificial birds/butterflies/animals, a small doll's cottage... in a large tray or any flat-bottomed container, then pour some water and hey, you've brought back the beach with you ;-)) [it looks really great - do try it]. since you want to gift it, you could replace water with crumpled bluish cellophane paper or a gelatin solution with food color mixed in. pour over the arrangement & allow it to set.
-- make artificial flowers out of the shells. you can use real dried twigs or driftwood for the stems, etc. Arrange in pot or jar or bottle filled with sand. if you color the sand, you can use multicolor layers.

depending on the shell size, you can make a variety of stuff.
* the large ones you can use a stand-alone show pieces or clumped together on a corner table.
* use large ones as stand-alone bookends or glue smaller ones to existing bookends.
* make a long-stemmed flower arrangement (fresh or dried or artificial) in a shallow container & arrange the shells at the base.
these are short-term uses; you can change at will.
for some permanent uses and as self-made gifts which will be appreciated -
* stick them around a photo-frame, vase, clock, lamp shade, etc, artistically. you can use sand here too.
* use them on table napkin rings , or on place cards
* to make greeting cards
* glue them on hair pins, hair bands, bracelets
* carefully pierce a hole in a nice shell & insert it as a lucky charm in your friendship bracelet
* make windchimes & mobiles
* make earrings
* place them in layers in a beautifully shaped transparent glass jar/bottle/vase.
* create centerpieces

Ideas for redecorating my room to an ocean theme?

I want to redecorate my room and make it an ocean theme. I already decided that I'm going to buy framed pictures of the beach, sunsets, etc. I'm going go get a new bed set that's green or blue or both. What else can I do? I have no other ideas!

Think sheer flowing material like a softly blowing breeze.They are also 'cost effective' in another word cheap :o) Be certain tio keep the curtain rods etc to a minimalists concept. Hidden rod, like a slide rod. Or maybe you prefer blinds in a natural wood treatment. Second hand stores offer Small side tables. These can be repainted and can be a good display for Candles, candles and more candles artfully arranged in a clear crystal glass bowl(s) filled with either sand or sea shells or both. The bowls to can be purchased at second hand stores and yard sales. You don't have to get everything at once, gather as you go, seeing as you already have a theme in mind. Perhaps a few scatter rugs, but again go for texture and colors that compliment within the suggested range of colors. Keep to the natural elements. Search around and try to find something for one wall such as a good size piece of Driftwood. It will be lovely!

As for your bathroom, you want to stay away from blue paint... too tacky. Try beach colors such as light beige, tan, or if you must mix blue and grey. Add shell lamps or light switches, big seashell soap dish, or shadow boxes with starfish, sand dollars & shells. You can add seashell or starfish shower curtain holders and even towels. Also anything nautical will blend nicely with the dolphins.
But too many dolphins can be overwhelming, so be careful.

30th birthday...need a fun place to celebrate in San Francisco?

Day One

Took 92 west over to Half Moon Bay then down Route 1 south. Route 92 was a very twisty, narrow way that we encountered a lot of traffic on. There were lots and lots of pumpkins though. Half Moon Bay being the heart of pumpkin growing country.

Route 1 was an amazingly beautiful scenic drive. Lots of places to stop for pictures. Many, many sandy beaches with little or no people on them. We stopped at the Pescadero State Park. It was a smaller beach but lots of cool drift wood all along the beach. It has a small restroom facility and free parking.

From there we continued down route 1 and eventually stopped at the Pigeon Point lighthouse. Again amazing views. You can't get into the lighthouse and the parking was a little harder but there was no cost to walk around the grounds.

My sis had her heart set on reaching Santa Cruz, so we continued on route 1 until we got to Santa Cruz. Parking was hard due to a Car Show and a Sea Glass show that were in town for the weekend. We drove around for awhile looking for a spot. We ended up at a meter near the boardwalk. It was much more of a tourist trap then I like. It had an amusement park and arcade on the boardwalk. A few surf shops, which is what my sis was looking for, where you could rent boards for the day. The wharf was nice and the area is a marine life preserve so we saw sea lions swimming right off the pier. The wharf had several areas cut out where you could see the sea lions resting on the scaffolding built under the pier. All in all I didn't find the town to be overwhelmed with people so you were able to see any thing you wanted too.

Day Two

We headed up to Napa valley to drink in the scenery and the wine. Well, Chris drank the wine. We started out at Artesa Winery. It was an amazingly beautiful place. The grounds were breathtaking and the visitor's center was incredible. Not having a taste for wine I'll have to take Chris' word that the wine was good. She got a taste of 5 "classics" for $10.00. There was art and the winery history on the walls in the visitor's center as well as a patio with a view of San Fran on a clear day. So Jim and I enjoyed that while Chris sipped wine. While we were there someone suggested the St. Clement vineyard and that's where we headed next.

St Clement's mister center is a cute house nestled on the top of the hill. Lots of outdoor tables to enjoy the day and the drink. Again here you got a taste of 5 wines for $10.00. While we were waiting for Chris, Jim and I ended up talking to a gentleman that ran a tour of wine country. He was in the process of setting out lunch for his tour. It's $75.00 per person. They travel around on a luxury bus and he decides each day where he is going to take his group. Get this, his wife made the potato salad they enjoy for lunch. Sounds like a great day for those people who like wine. It's playtime's tours. Check it out.

For there we decide to head for lunch. Chris said she was happy with the vineyards we visited and we could move on. Lunch at the Market was delious! We were eating later in the day so it wasn't too busy. Good prices and good food. Afterwards we walked around downtown St. Helena. Very small town with boutiques on the main street. It didn't take us long to wander and we headed out once again.

I want to something a bit more different then the usual folded up in line cards with everyones name and table numbers. I want it to be creative but not expensive.

It would help to give you ideas if we knew what kind of theme or setting you are having at the event.

For example, for a beach wedding, you could paint everyone's name on a shell at their place setting.

For a formal wedding, you could have people's names embroidered or screen printed on their napkin.

You could put a tiny pot of flowers with each guests names painted on it at each place setting.

There are lots of things you can do if you think outside the box.

What should the theme for my dance party be?

I stayed at the Tamarijn on my honeymoon last summer, it is AMAZING. The resort itself is very nice, and suitable for groups of all sizes, there were lots of couples as well as lots of families there.

W snorkelled a lot, there are some good places for it along the beaches. And the equipment rental is part of the all-inclusive thing, you just show them your room key and give them your room number and they hand you the gear you need.

Oranjestad isn't all that close, there are some shops within walking distance, and the taxi rates are very reasonable in Aruba.

For your family, there is so much to do, and it is all covered in the all inclusive so you don't really have to carry any cash with you, you only need your room key and towel card. You're given a bracelet when you check in that shows you are staying there, and this gives you access to all of the restaurants in the resort. There is good access to beach, and the Tamarijn is owned by the Divi corporation so you have access to a sister resort that is about 5 minutes up the beach. This includes access to some of the restaurants and total access to the beaches there. Just be sure to check which restaurants require you to make reservations (some of them do).

My wife and I began planning a return trip for our 5 year anniversary the week we got back! Aruba is one of those rare places where the island is actually NICER than the pictures you see!

Recommendations:

Be sure to eat at the Palm Grill at the resort. It has little stir-fry surfaces on the table where you grill your own food, its fun and the food is good quality. It requires reservations.

Pack more sunscreen than you think you need and aloe. You can get caught up in snorkelling and find yourself with a nasty burn without realizing it!

Spend some time in the pools as well as the ocean. Give your skin a break from the salt and enjoy one of the numerous pools, they are all very nice and well kept, and often provide shade that the beach doesn't.

Eat like pigs! The food is great, especially all of the fresh fish. You've already paid for it in your all-inclusive price, so get your fill!

Chinese New Year is not so big in Thailand as it is in Malaysia, for example. The biggest celebrations in Thailand are Songkran (Thai New Year), New Year's Day, and Roi Katon. You WILL find people celebrating though, so you won't feel left out. As a seasoned traveller to Thailand I've put together the following two week itinery that you might find interesting:

Day 1: Arrive BKK and fly directly to Chiang Mai CNX. Check into your hotel and hang out at the pool. Visit the night market - Wualai Walking Street (Saturday Market), Tha Pae Walking Street (Sunday Market)

Day 2: Elephant park: You're seriously going to wet yourself over this one ... and fall in love with an elephant or two. Patara Elephant Farm, Elephant Nature Park and Thai Elephant Home are all highly regarded and offer similar full day excursions. You'll get hands-on experience feeding, training, walking, riding elephants, etc. There are other similar places too. Probably a good day to organise a massage after dinner at one of the day spas. I prefer the more expensive day spas to the chop-shop massage places as the quality of service and privacy is better.

Day 3: Wat Phra That Doi Suthep: seriously nice temple about 20km from the centre of town. You might find it as part of a day trip. Possibly combine with Tiger Kingdom.

Day 4: Visit the night bazaar on Chang Klan Road

Day 5: CNX-BKK-Phuket (HTK). If you've got the money Le Meridian is the place to stay, with it's private beach etc. Whatever hotel you stay at, get them to book your next few day's activities right away. Day 6: Phang Nga Bay day tour - see James Bond island, the place where The Beach was filmed.

Day 7: Coral Island - just 20 minutes off the coast by speedboat. So some swimming, sunbaking, etc. or spend the day by the pool. At night go to FantaSea: Phuket FantaSea is the island's biggest show. With trapeze artists, a cast of hundreds, performing elephants and other animals and an exotic storyline that blends tradition with fantasy you'll have a wonderful evening out here. But, make sure you have booked the package which includes dinner at the on-site restaurant AND arrive EARLY.

Day 8: Explore the shops, markets, etc. around Phuket. Send your bf on a fishing trip while you get your nails and hair done.

Important note: don't hire a jetski in Thailand. I'm just warning you ... there are a lot of scams ... google "Thailand jetski scam" for further info.

Day 9: How about a bit more nature? There's a Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre at Bang Pae Waterfall or visit the Butterfly Garden and Insect World. Not your scene? Do an adventure trip: rafting, go-karts, pistol ranges - all available in Phuket.

Day 10: HTK - BKK: when you arrive at your hotel book a river dinner cruise for later in the week. Spend the afternoon at Platinum Plaza shopping for clothes, etc. Go to Cabbages and Condoms for dinner - profits go to HIV/AIDS prevention in rural Thailand, then visit PatPong Night Market.

Day 11: Culture - Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) - which is right next to The Grand Palace. All worth seeing. I suggest starting early to avoid the afternoon heat. Wat Phra Kaew opens at 8:00am and there's a lot to see. I suggest walking only part of the walls that have the artwork (you'll know what I mean when you get there). Aim to spend about an hour at each. Tonight go to the Bed SupperClub - if you booked it the week before.

Day 12: How about a day trip to the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai and Hellfire Pass - the scene of Japanese occupation during WW2? Not for you? How about shopping? Check out the top end of town this time - Central World Plaza, then on to Siam Paragon (I think the best shopping mall in BKK). Day 13-15: Pack your stuff and take a taxi to Pattaya. Stay a couple of night here. There are some great live music venues at night. Excellent food and good day spas. I need to install a small drop leaf breakfast bar, I only have basic hand tools and electric drills, sanders etc. I am hoping to find a simple plan I can use (or adapt a plan from a bench/table). Not fussed about fancy routed joints.
I was going to drill a wooden strip into the wall with some nice stainless brackets and then attach the drop leaf to that. Then varnish to match the kitchen benchtop.
Anyone know of anywhere I could find a free plan/DIY guide to doing this?
Also are there some special drop leaf hinges that i can use on the underside that would save making special joints etc? I think I have seen something on a caravan hardware website that may be useful but don't know where to find these retail. I am in Melbourne Australia so local knowledge most appreciated. I don't know about a DIY plan, but IKEA sells tabletops that are made for drop leaf designs - and they are really cheap. I mean, $60, all finished cheap. They look really nice too.

How can I get better at skateboarding?

Ive been skating for about a year and a half and my best trick is 360 flip and I don't usually skate parks only street please help!

It seems to me you won't have too much trouble getting better if you can stick a tre in a year and a half. Just keep an eye out for cool skate spots. I grew up near Woodward Camp, but I almost never skate parks, I ride in the street, so I keep my eye open for good places to come back to. Small stairsets with rails, gaps, lines of benches and tables... start looking at things through the skateboarding perspective. When you see a 6 set with a fairly low rail your immediate thought should be damn I wish I had my board. Go hard man, and like everybody else says, RIDE A LOT. I'll tell you from experience, taking time off just puts you wayyy behind. You'll still have the ability, but you won't be in the groove.

i have about 40 day until i go to meps for my check up. i want to get in better shape before they look at me. im 6.0 ft tall, 150.00 pounds i wanna get to about 160.00. my metabolism is extremely high. im broke and cannot afford a gym membership. any ideas of what i can do in my bedroom for the next 40 day? i have two 25 pound dumbbells also but that all.

Running is probably going to be your most important workout. I recommend a long distance run once a week, a high intensity run once a week, an interval run once a week, a 1.5 mile run once a week and wind sprints once a week.

Your long distance runs should start at about 3.5 miles and increase by a quarter of a mile each week.

Your high intensity run should be the maximum effort you can produce for a period of 15-20 minutes.

There are different ways you can do your interval run but I like to walk a quarter mile and then run a quarter mile. During the interval run you should be running slightly faster than your one mile run pace. try to do between 6-10 intervals per run.

Your mile and a half run should be a sprint. complete that mile and a half as fast as you can.

When sprinting, start by walking 100 yards then sprinting 100 yards, then bump it up to a 200 yard walk with a 200 yard sprint, then 400, 800, 400, 200, 100. Unless you are already an extremely well conditioned runner, you will puke during this one. I do pretty much every time.

As for workouts to help with strength, push-ups are of course going to be #1 since you are preparing for boot camp. Pyramid sets work well but I prefer doing 5 sets with a rest period of 1:30-2:00 minutes between each set. Start by doing your max so you know where you are physically. For example, if your max is 50 push-ups, do 20 push-ups each set. Make sure you are going slow on each push-up and really emphasizing proper form on your push-ups. Each week you can try increasing the number of push-ups per set. Also, be sure to test your max push-ups once a week.

You can also try inverted push-ups to help strengthen different muscles. Rest your feet on an object that is off the ground a bit and do your push-ups that way.

Dips are another good workout you can do at home or while running at the park. Find a chair or coffee table or park bench and do some dips.

Sit-ups are good as well. I put my meet under the couch so I don't have to bug my dad or brother to hold my feet every time I want to do sit-ups. I like to do 5 sets of 35 with a 50 second rest in between. Crunches also work well but I think the sit-ups are better since you are training for basic.

Flutter kicks are great for your core and hip flexer muscles. Try doing 3 sets of flutter kicks and after the last set hold your feet 6' off the ground with your legs out straight for at least 30 seconds. You will really feel it in your core. I would start with sets of 20.

Lunges, squats and wall sits are great for your legs and you can incorporate your weights in with these workouts.

If you can swing the cash to get a pull-up bar for your bedroom door, I highly recommend it. Pull-ups are another great workout.

Women were still mostly expected to not get involved and many of the earliest Gold Camps were all male domains. When women did get involved they did the grudge work: washing clothes and cooking and cooking during that era was labor intensive. In the crudest of camps one pot meals were the norm that meant one big pot, lots of water and the women or men would chop up meat and limited veggies (mostly potato and parsnips and turnips) into a cast iron pot and boil it all. The other use for the few women in camp was for sex an activity out of fashion in 2010 but back then it was recognized as a normal human function.

It was a convergence of cultures (Anglo-American, Spanish, Chinese, Mexican etc.) and economic status (downright rich to dirt poor). Folks who ventured into towns could sample the finest Victorian fare or drink themselves into oblivion on cheap whisky. Camp fare was similar to what the pioneers ate on the Oregon trail: belly-filling foods made with local ingredients (freshly shot game, fruits & vegetables) and store-bought provisions (coffee, beans & bacon). As time progressed, so did the food. Sourdough bread was a staple of the forty-niners.

"With the discovery of gold, California...abruptly changed character. The territory had launched itself upon an agricultural career, but with the gold strike California's farms were abandoned, and so were its towns. As ships from the East Coast reached California, their crews promptly deserted and went gold hunting too; by July 1850, the harbor of San Francisco was clogged with five hundred vessels becalmed for want of crews. San Fransico was promoted from a small village named Yerba Vueina, "good herb," for a local plant with a mint-like flavor, to a thriving, bustling metropolis of 25,000 citizens, mostly miners. In 1849, eighty thousand new gold seekers entered California...Three-quarters of the gold hunters were Americans, bringin with them Anglo-Saxon eating habits destined to overwhelm Spanish-Mexican ideas. The same phenomenon already encountered on a frontier inhabited by a society with no women in the kitchen was now repeated, strengthening the American tendency to neglect culinary niceties: women made up only eight percent of California's new population, and in the mining areas only two percent. The successful prospectors were heavy spenders; they had to be when it came to food, which was outrageously expensive. Since nobody in California wanted to rais ti, everything had to be imported. Nevertheless, for unsuccessful, or not yet sucessful prospectors, San Francisco developed, iknt eh 1850s, relatively modest hotels and boarding houses, whose prices were reasonable in their context. Everybody sat down at a common table, and the food was hearty. Meanwhile, for epicurians among those who had struck it rich, a surprising number of French restaurants were opened. The first important one was named Le Poulet d'Or...For the moment, the spectacular potentiality of California as a grwoer of food was neglected. its new-found riches served chiefly, in this domain, to further developments of Oregon as a food-supplying state, catering to the California gold-rush population."

what would your ideal weekend in the mountains of HI?

depending on which island you're on i can give you advice for two....

Oahu----- i highly recommend that you not stay in Honolulu....but do visit and experience it once in the day and once at night(they have entertainers....i.e. gold man silver man money man and when i went there was a college student dressed up like a panda....all want your money but it's a rele good photo opportunity.the college student took pictures with kid but he needed money for college) if you like oriental food you can't get any closer to Asia in Hawaii....a rele good restaurant is the Golden Phoenix 429 Keawe St

but there are other things to do....you must rent snorkeling gear and go snorkeling at three tables....down the road is shark's cove(don't worry)


free up one day and just drive around the island don't worry about getting lost you'll find awesome stuff the worst thing to do in hawaii is be a haole(white tourist who took the native's land away for them) talk to the local they're rele nice experience the culture

then go to the far side of the island and go on a glider ride you'll get a perfect skyline of the ocean and mountains....at dillingham ariport(mr. bill's origional glider ride...)PO Box 626

and honestly the only thing i did when i was on the big island was go up in the mountains to the volcano do that at night and during the day...but i recconmmend that you go during the night at first so you can compare and contrast the difference....it's amazing.... and if you get a chance check out the black sand beaches....and if you're a hiker you can also get to enjoy one of the only GREEN sand beaches but it's either a 5 mile hike or you need a REAL off roader.... and i'm serious it's not a pretty little path ....uneven

Waikiki Beach is a legendary tourist zone on the south shore of Oahu in Hawaii: a 2-mile sweep of surf and shore below Diamond Head.

What's special about Waikiki Beach:

Waikiki Beach is the most-developed tourist area in Hawaii, with:

* beautiful sea, and views of Diamond Head
* perfect surf for beginners, and good surf year-round
* a loveliness that persists even with concrete and high-rises

Waikiki Beach History:
Waikiki Beach has been inhabited since Polynesians arrived in these islands, and has seen much of the tumult of Hawaii's history: warrior kings, whaling ships, terrible epidemics, displaced Hawaiians, a deposed Queen, and of course tourist development starting over a century ago. Two venerable hotels still sit on the beach: the Moana Surfrider and the pink Royal Hawaiian. -Splurge on High Tea at the Moana Surfrider: a classy hotel with a period-style verandah that faces the sea and a spectacular century-old banyan tree. Yes, tea: no mere drink but a ritual done in full British colonial style but with a kids' menu too. (And kids can go play and still be in view.)

-Take in local events that give concrete Waikiki a human face:
