How do you make homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker?

2fine4u

Answer
Once you cook the ice cream part
the milk cream and eggs and flavouring you need to put this in the fridge to cool

all you need is an container that will not leak like Tupperware put the mixture in it but only half full

Now you need a bigger container one that is big enough it put the smaller one in it plus ice

Again it must be leak proof

once you have the mixture in the small container tape it with duct tape very good

place it in the bigger container and then the ice and just a bit of water now put 2 to 3 table spoons of salt on the ice.

Adding salt to the ice draws the heat away from the inside mixture. And helps it freeze.

Now put the lid on and tape it.

Right about now it will be great to have kids around because you have to shake it for about 1 to 2 hours I have had friends that reinforced the containers and kicked it around for a while I have seen some people put the containers in soccer balls they cut open (we did this while camping) or put is on a rope and hit it around

Does anyone have any ideas for a Bonfire Camp out 17th birthday party!!!?

My mom has a seasonal sight at this campground so I was thinking I could have a bonfire and campout and stuff. Any ideas.... food, decorations, games, etc. Thanks for your help!

Answer
If you're going to have a bonfire, then you shouldn't be too formal.

You should just go and buy a packet of cards at the nearest supermarket for your invitations, nothing too fancy, and address them to their respective people. You should really not be formal about this that much, in fact, you can even be a little laid back in your writing style if you want, and don't forget to mention that they don't have to make too much of an effort dressing up, because this is a bonfire, after all, and the odds are that you will get dirty.

For food, you should have something homemade, maybe. Home-made cookies, finger foods, like little sandwiches, and maybe some pastries, like croissants and doughnuts, a salad, and of course, the all important coke would do well for a party of that kind. Or if you can't manage that, then just order pizza; the good old trick works every time. Or if you want, you can order Chinese, or Thai, or Indian, or maybe you could use McDonalds to get your hands on the food. Chocolate mousse and/or pudding might be a good idea, too. Oh, and don't forget marshmellows to roast once the fire is up and going.

Decorations: you should get hold of a table, and spread it out with a tablecloth. Preferable colours of the tablecloth may be red, orange, yellow etc. like those kind of fiery colours so that it will clash with the bonfire when it's up and going. You should have chairs sitting around the area with about a twenty metre radius around the bonfire itself.

Games: hmmm...this is a tough one. Obviously, "Pin the tail on the donkey" and "Musical Chairs" aren't quite so apropriate for the age group, so we don't we go with something along the lines of a Twilight Trivia Game, or maybe you could go inside for a bit and play Guitar Hero on the television.

Hope I helped :)

Need a poem to put on the table where people pick up the escort cards??

Kelsy

Something like we love summer so the tables are named places we like to go in the summer

Or might do the tables places we have traveled have pics.

What do you think??
Place cards same thing, the card that have your name on it and tell you were you are seated.
Wow people are harsh on here. Dumb. I am naming my tables after places I have been rather than boring numbers.

Answer
This maybe over doing it a bit.. When people find their seats and they see the table is named "Beach" I'm sure they'll get the idea.. Now if you wanted to.. You can do a little quote under that name of the table.

Such as

SUN
"May our smiles always bring sunshine to our hearts"

Good luck!

What are some creative ways to display table seating cards at a wedding?

Nikky

I want to something a bit more different then the usual folded up in line cards with everyones name and table numbers. I want it to be creative but not expensive.

Answer
It would help to give you ideas if we knew what kind of theme or setting you are having at the event.

For example, for a beach wedding, you could paint everyone's name on a shell at their place setting.

For a formal wedding, you could have people's names embroidered or screen printed on their napkin.

You could put a tiny pot of flowers with each guests names painted on it at each place setting.

There are lots of things you can do if you think outside the box.

Anyone have a review of Paradise Cove Campground at Lake Isabella, CA?

Ryan Corsa

Can't find any on the internet and we're trying to book a last minute camping spot.

Answer
PARADISE COVE CAMPGROUND
Located on south shore of Lake Isabella off Highway 178. Paved road; 58 family units and 80 RV sites; No limit on Trailer length; Restrooms-2 flush type, 1 with metered showers, and chemical toilets; Water; Fire rings, tables and grills; RV dump station, $8; Fish cleaning station. Open year round. Supplies at Mtn. Mesa. $20.00 per night. Sites 59-138, $14.00 per night, $5.00 for each additional vehicle, Dry and dusty but good in location very close to the boat launch, occasional bear issues so keep the food and poodle locked in at night. bring your own shade and a way to tie it down the afternoon winds kick up pretty good at times. Not my top choice because of the lack of shade and the primary wind direction makes it's beaches take the worst of it I prefer the west shore campgrounds or camping on the river above or below the lake. My top choice is Hobo south of the lake.

Why is the Obama camp running scared? ?

Obama will

Obama to hit McCain on Keating Five (title of the article)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/14302
Asumo; it was not so much the 60s; but, once Obama was of age he started associating with Ayers, Renzko; Farrakhan (Islamic leader) and the Black Panthers. Truth hurts and this is why he is now going to try to discredit McCain. McCain was found NOT guilty.

You better wake up fast before November 4. Obama is NOT what America needs. Socialism is NOT the American way.

Answer
Obama's association with Ayers, who now teaches at the university, has become an issue in the Illinois senator's presidential campaign. The Weather Underground took credit for several nonfatal bombings on targets that included the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, and critics accuse Obama of rubbing elbows with an unabashed 1960s radical.

Obama has said that, although he knew Ayers as a professor involved in community outreach efforts in Chicago, he doesn't share Ayers' extreme views.

The massive collection of newly released documents -- 140 boxes full of them -- includes agendas that clearly put Obama and Ayers in the same room for meetings of Chicago Annenberg Challenge, an educational initiative that Ayers was instrumental in starting and that Obama chaired in the 1990s.

Ayers Unrepentant for Weather Underground's Violence in 1960s, 1970s

The initiative was funded by $49.2 million from the Annenberg Foundation with the intention of establishing community partnerships that would improve schools.

FOX News was among several news organizations that reviewed the university's records by appointment. In one agenda, a March 15, 1995, meeting featured Obama making introductions and Ayers giving a briefing.

But more than a year later, Obama pushed the group to be bolder in its reforms, according to the Associated Press, which also reviewed the documents. Minutes from an October 1996 gathering show that Obama, a guest at a meeting of the collaborative, raised questions about what the group should be doing.

The AP reports the minutes characterized Obama's concerns as twofold: Whether the group was raising additional money and whether money was being used "to prop up existing organizations as opposed to creating fresh educational practices in the schools?"

"At the end of five years, will we have broken the mold? Not much seems to be bubbling up that is inspiring or substantive," the minutes say, paraphrasing Obama.

Even so, Stanley Kurtz, a contributing editor for the conservative magazine National Review, thinks Obama's association with Ayers should raise questions in the minds of voters who wonder of Obama is as mainstream as he claims to be.

"The fact that Obama and Ayers were working together stems from the pretty sharp left-leaning ideology that both of them shared to some extent," Kurtz said.

Ayers did not respond to an e-mail requesting comment.

The Obama campaign, meanwhile, is fighting a conservative group called the American Issues Project over a TV commercial that links Obama to Ayers. The campaign argues that the nonprofit group is violating federal laws regulating political ads by nonprofits.

The group filed a document with the Federal Election Commission last week identifying Texas billionaire Harold Simmons as the lone financier of the ad, contributing nearly $2.9 million to produce and air it. Simmons is a fundraiser for John McCain and was one of the major contributors to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which aired ads in 2004 against John Kerry.

The Obama campaign issued a response ad to the group's ad, which says, "With all our problems why is John McCain talking about the '60s trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers? McCain knows Obama denounced Ayers' crimes committed when Obama was just eight years old. Let's talk about standing up for America today."

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said if "McCain's consultants are going to go out and make ads that are misleading about Barack Obama, we are going to make sure that they are answered we have to make sure that the truth is out there and that we are answering with force."

McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers released a statement responding to Burton that said, "It's absurd and disingenuous for the Obama campaign to say we are running this ad. They are trying to blame us and use a straw man to take this issue off the table. If he thinks having a relationship with an unrepentant terrorist is not an issue that concerns the American people, he is deluding himself or being naive."

FOX News' Bret Baier, Craig Wall and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

What are some unique ideas for a tropical wedding??

fastfuriou

We are having a tropical theme wedding in a couple months and I wanted to know if anybody had any unique ideas as some cheap, but creative stuff like decorations, favors, and everything else. We got palm trees and sandals with everyones name on them as place holders and we wanted more stuff that we could do like that. Maybe crafty things from Michaels or somehting.

Answer
i just attended a beach wedding in miami.. the ceremony was held in south beach early in the morning, everyone wore white. the ladies wore white dresses and the men wore white button down shirts and khaki pants. everyone had lays around them. it was fun. the celebration was held in their parents back yard. we actually decorated the whole place.
what we did was order some wholesale flowers and use the flowers as center pieces on the tables. make sure u order bright colored flowers. as for their party favors they gave out glass coasters with their pictures in them and their names printed in the back. the pictures were printed from costco and the names we printed on our own. some of the tables we put white nets [ from ikea ] to make it look like sand. on top of the nets we put shells, starfishes, etc. those u can get from michaels or any crafty stores..anyway we saved alot of money doing this wedding but the wedding was very classy and everyone had fun.. for more ideas you can email me at xxh0ney@yahoo.com

cape town clifton and camps bay beaches?

aminf31 a

i have planned 4 nigfhts in cape town: one day table mountain, kirstenbosh garden, V & A waterfront shopping. 2nd day: cape point and peninsula tour and penguins at boulders...and 3 rd day relax on the beaches of camps bay and clifotn mainly and visit bloughberg beach.

Is one day neough to do these beaches and relax on camps and clifton? mind you..i am going to a carribean destination after that....

Also, i find car rentals very expensive..55$/day...any other suggestions of car rental places (automatic gear)
what i really need to know is if 1 full day is enough to relax on camps bay, clifton and blougberg beaches? should i spend like few hours on each and then the rest of the day on clifton beach, or do i need 2 days?
ok guys i have added one more day for the different beaches. I would like to know which beach would be ok to stroll on clifton (4 th?) because that website says it is not that appropriate..

and how do iget to camps bay and clifton if parking is a problem? the shuttles and taxis are reliable and feasable>? I dont wanna be stressed and climb stairs. What is the best way to visit the beaches from our hotels?

I would probably add Llandudno beach by car later...my plan is to stay 3 nights somwhere near the table moutain and V &A, 1 night on bloughberg beach and 1 night near camps bay..what you think? (i have total 5 nights now)

Answer
Like Trent says, Camps Bay and Clifton are not for relaxing. If you like climbing stairs, then do all 4 Clifton Beaches. There are some lovely and interesting houses built on the slopes. The Camps Bay Beach is viewable from the road while driving. If you really want to sun bathe, then there are other more peaceful beaches.
http://www.clifton.co.za/

But, by all means, take a stroll along Camps Bay Beach and one of the Clifton Beaches, but parking is a problem. It might be best to take the mini-bus shuttle from Victoria Road. If there is enough sand and the tide is low, it is possible to walk from Clifton First Beach right through to Fourth Beach or vice versa.

Blouwberg has some lovely views of Table Mountain, but the water is cold. Check the weather before you go, as it can be very windy.

A tip: Plan an alternate day for Table Mountain. Sometimes the weather is disappointingly bad (low cloud or even rain) and then one will be happy for a "second chance".

Hope you have a marvellous stay.

*Edit*
Camps Bay and Clifton could be done together in one afternoon. They are quite close to each other. And neither all 4 Clifton Beaches nor Camps Bay Beach are very long. If you started at say 14.00 (much too hot for the sun, though. Take sunscreen and protective clothing)) at Clifton, walked along for an hour (if the tide is low), sunbathed for another hour, then you would still have time for a 10 - 20 minute drive to Camps Bay, depending on the traffic, and spend some time there.

This way, you can plan half a day for Clifton and Camps Bay Beaches, and the other half a day at Blouberg.

Where are FREE camping area's in Kentucky?

Katie U

My husband and I are looking for a quite get away for a weekend and would like to go camping but would rather not have to fork out any cash for it and are curious if anyone knows of any free camping, RV areas. We live in the Lexington area, so anything close to that area would be nice too!

Answer
Look up any national forest in your area. These have what is called dispersed camping. These are sites that are along back-country forest roads that you can pull into and camp. Sometimes these are marked as yellow post sites and your local ranger will have the specifics of where those are. Sometimes the yellow post site may have a fire ring and picnic table but that would be all it would have, no water or bathrooms. There may be an access fee of $5 per day or $30 a year for parking it's called the adventure pass.

arc welding ( stick welding ) help?

Christian

ok so my welding instructor tells me that when the rod sticks to the plate to move the holder right to left over and over until it comes loose if tht dosnt work pick up the plate and then pull the rod off .
when i was welding i did both the first step didnt work so i picked the plate up and all these sparks flew from the base plate and i put it down . called him over and he fixed up everything for me but wat i would like to know is if i pick up the baseplate and then detach the holder from the rod will it arc the holder ?

Answer
If the rod gets stuck then it'll begin drawing lots of current and likely to overheat, meaning you wont be able to get decent welds out that stick. So if your efforts to detach it don't work within a few seconds I would depress the rod release lever while pulling the holder quite hard. That releases the rod fairly sharpish. Yes you will get some arcing, but as the holders are usually aluminium it wont stick.

Bend back/forth to detach rod from plate. Once you've got the rod detached from the base, I've found it often helps to give the end a quick once over with a file, seems to rub off excess electrode/flux and helps with restarting without getting stuck, when the flux has broken off around where it had stuck. Can also help if the electrode refuses to restart (current setting too high for rod?)

You'll get better at not getting the rod stuck. Took me about 4 sessions of 2hours to begin to get the knack of keeping the arc lit. But then I was doing it without an instructor. Still haven't mastered consistent welds though. I'm forever getting flux mixed in the weld! I'm probably using rods that are too thin/current that's too low for the thickness of metal, but all I have is a domestic plug socket, and I can't draw too much without tripping out the all important fuse

--
You're getting sparks when you pick up the plate because you're interrupting the circuit by picking it up. That suggests you're working on a grounded workstation, rather than grounding the work piece directly. I clamp the work to the metal plate I place over my bench to protect it, and then earth BOTH with the earth clip, Makes it difficult to lift the plate, and with more complicated welds helps keeps the parts to welded aligned, even if the electrode gets stuck/needs removed. Don't worry the arrangement you're using is probably more correct. When running higher currents the current flowing through both the workpiece and table will produce a strong EMF which should help ensure the parts are kept in really good contact. (same kind of tthing as when the spark starts and the electrode is pulled towards the work)

I'd really try to avoid sparking between plate and work surface. It'll not be a particular clean break, and it'll cause a small amount of damage to the surface of your work and over time it'll scar the work surface. Sparks pack a surprising amount of punch in a very small area. Indeed there's a form of machining called Electric discharge machining that utilises sparks to remove metal in a controlled way. Far better to have the spark between the consumed electrode, and the easily replaced electrode holder. Besides with one hand needed to hold the plate, it's all to easy for the electrode holder to be inadvertently placed down on the earthed table while you are picking up the old electrode. Big BAD spark then!

Another reason why I don't like about the idea of picking the plate up with one hand while holding the electrode in the other is you've potentially got a direct path straight across your body/heart. Now 50V (or thereabouts) rarely causes any problems, and your gloves are supposed to insulate anyway. But "hand to hand path" carries the greatest risk of electrocution. Why risk it when there are alternatives without that risk?

If you do do as you instructor says and want to pick the plate up to remove a stuck electrode, then to prevent unwanted sparks/remove the electrocution risk. I suggest turning the welder off first. No current=no spark=no damage anywhere.

Are there any beginner welding classes in California?

Munna Ahme

Answer
dude - you dont need a beginner welding class. you need a book caled welding for idiots - it's probably $3. get your hands on a working welder - electric - nothing serious - get some of the appropriate metal - get a welder's work bench - generally something set on top of some work horses - a much stronger metal that what you are working with is usually a good table to start with - some people work with a special kind of material that doesnt respond to the heat, yu know the table cant melt or crack or anythintg like that - some smoke is usually normal - thats why you wear a mask and gogles when you weld.

also the welding gogles have to be the right lenses to keep your eyes from getting burned

different lenses for different kinds of light emmited

seriously get "welding for idiots" or any recent book on beginner welding.

How tall should a kitchen chair be?

Sockfinder

I would love to use two benches (below) with cushions on them, but are they too short? I will be using a standard sized kitchen table. The benches are 16" in height.
( http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&navAction=jump&id=17093501&search=true&isProduct=true&parentid=SEARCH+RESULTS&color=000 )

Thanks!

Answer
Standard kitchen tables are 30 inches high. standard chairs are 18 - 19 inches. The skirt board that goes around the bottom of the table top varies with manufactures, and effects leg room. Average leg room needed is 8 inches. Measure this from top of chair seat to bottom of skirting. Don't forget cushion thickness, as you need the 8 inches to top of cushion, if you use cushions on top of chairs.

I am looking for a plan for a kitchen table with a bench on one side and chairs on the other?

My mum and dad are going camping this weekend for two nights. It's my mum's first time, and I don't think my dad's been in over 20 years. Does anyone have any last minute advice I can give them, things to take, things to do, etc so that they'll think I'm a genius, and also so they don't come home early and ruin my plans.

If it makes a difference, they're going on a camp site with toilet facilities etc on site. And they're taking the dog with them.

What Is Your Dream Bird Aviary?

chocoboryo

If money and space wasnât an issue, what would your dream aviary be like?
Note that maintenance and cleaning may still be an issue.

(obviously this is only for people who actually keep birds or want to)

Answer
If I could build my dream aviary, it would have a convertible roof with a screen to let lots of fresh air into it. It would contain potted fruit trees and other vegetation for the birds to eat and live. Also, it would contain a couple of ponds and maybe a little creek and water fall. Maybe I would even have a Japanese style garden. I would make all surfaces water-proof and have a few drains in the floor so I can hose everything down to clean. For myself, I would have an office in a corner, so I can work in the peaceful environment. Of course I would have doors to close so my little friends will not try to re-organize my work area. I would also have a couple benches and patio tables with umbrellas (to avoid unwanted presents on the food) and have small parties for my closest friends and family.

place the footlocker at the foot of your bed, perfect if it had a cover to use as a bench seat, chocolate brown curtain would look great on the window.

Place the long dresser w/tv on top in the corner on one wall where the bed was w/video game poster http://www.moviegoods.com/fetch-products_video_game_posters.asp or blacklight poster above and the shelving unit on the adjoining wall w/your fave sport penants above, put the round table in the corner between them w/lamp with a blacklight light bulb.

Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and numerous Bays -Hout Bay, Table Bay, False Bay, Camp's Bay , Plettenberg bay, Lambert's Bay. Byde and Tyreur rivers in Kruger National Park.

how did south africa respond to colonization?

Kemz

Much details please.
I'm confused.

Answer
Although the Portuguese basked in the nautical achievement of successfully navigating the cape, they showed little interest in colonisation. The area's fierce weather and rocky shoreline posed a threat to their ships, and many of their attempts to trade with the local Khoikhoi ended in conflict. The Portuguese found the Mozambican coast more attractive, with appealing bays to use as way stations, prawns, and links to gold ore in the interior.

The Portuguese had little competition in the region until the late 16th century, when the English and Dutch began to challenge the Portuguese along their trade routes. Stops at the continent's southern tip increased, and the cape became a regular stopover for scurvy-ridden crews. In 1647, a Dutch vessel was wrecked in the present-day Table Bay at Cape Town. The marooned crew, the first Europeans to attempt settlement in the area, built a fort and stayed for a year until they were rescued.

[edit] Arrival of the Dutch

Painting of an account of the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck, by Charles Bell.

Shortly thereafter, the Dutch East India Company (in the Dutch of the day: Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie, or VOC) decided to establish a permanent settlement. The VOC, one of the major European trading houses sailing the spice route to the East, had no intention of colonising the area, instead wanting only to establish a secure base camp where passing ships could shelter, and where hungry sailors could stock up on fresh supplies of meat, fruit, and vegetables. To this end, a small VOC expedition under the command of Jan van Riebeeck reached Table Bay on April 6, 1652.

While the new settlement traded out of necessity with the neighbouring Khoikhoi, it wasn't a friendly relationship, and the Company authorities made deliberate attempts to restrict contact. Partly as a consequence, VOC employees found themselves faced with a labour shortage. To remedy this, they released a small number of Dutch from their contracts and permitted them to establish farms, with which they would supply the VOC settlement from their harvests. This arrangement proved highly successful, producing abundant supplies of fruit, vegetables, wheat, and wine; they also later raised livestock. The small initial group of free burghers, as these farmers were known, steadily increased in number and began to expand their farms further north and east into the territory of the Khoikhoi.

The majority of burghers had Dutch ancestry and belonged to the Calvinist Reformed Church of the Netherlands, but there were also numerous Germans as well as some Scandinavians. In 1688 the Dutch and the Germans were joined by French Huguenots, also Calvinists, who were fleeing religious persecution in France under King Louis XIV.

In addition to establishing the free burgher system, van Riebeeck and the VOC also began to import large numbers of slaves, primarily from Madagascar and Indonesia. These slaves often married Dutch settlers, and their descendants became known as the Cape Coloureds and the Cape Malays. A significant number of the offspring from the White and slave unions were absorbed into the local proto-Afrikaans speaking White population. With this additional labour, the areas occupied by the VOC expanded further to the north and east, with inevitable clashes with the Khoikhoi. The newcomers drove the Khoikhoi from their traditional lands, decimated them with introduced diseases, and destroyed them with superior weapons when they fought back, which they did in a number of major wars and with guerrilla resistance movements that continued into the 19th century. Most survivors were left with no option but to work for the Europeans in an exploitative arrangement that differed little from slavery. Over time, the Khoisan, their European overseers, and the imported slaves mixed, with the offspring of these unions forming the basis for today's Coloured population.

The best-known Khoikhoi groups included the Griqua, who had originally lived on the western coast between St Helena Bay and the Cederberg Range. In the late 18th century, they managed to acquire guns and horses and began trekking northeast. En route, other groups of Khoisan, Coloureds, and even white adventurers joined them, and they rapidly gained a reputation as a formidable military force. Ultimately, the Griquas reached the Highveld around present-day Kimberley, where they carved out territory that came to be known as Griqualandalina.

Can a luau be considered a Caribbean theme?

Mercedes

My boyfriend left for basic training in June and since then I've been planning a big summer themed homecoming party to make up for the whole summer that he had to miss. Yesterday he called me to tell me he was coming home early because he broke his foot, but I still want to throw him a party so I looked up unusual holidays and discovered that he also missed "Caribbean day" so I decided to go with that theme. The problem is, I'm not sure where to go with this, can a luau be Caribbean, or should I just deck everything out in pot leaves and go more specifically with Jamaican?

Answer
Lauu is not caribbean theamed Caribbean party themes call for grass skirts, beach hats, rasta wigs, reggae hats, dreadlock wigs, coconut bikini tops, bright prints, etc if your dressing up
Caribbean party themes favors (or game/door prizes) for your guests can include palm tree shaped votive candles, shell necklaces, reggae CDs, small bottles of hot sauce, sunglasses, sun visors, sunscreen, small bottles of Bacardi, a gift bag with several of these things, or any other gifts that have a Caribbean flair.
Cover a wall with a tropical photo mural
Scatter tan and shades of blue balloons around (beach colors) or bright tropical floral colors like yellow, pink, purple, green. There are even balloons shaped like flamingos, shells, and palm trees! Or, get white and blue round paper lanterns.
Use any of several kinds of palm trees, flamingos, parrots, tropical fish, and suns (inflatable, metallic, paper, tissue, lighted strings or otherwise) for Caribbean party themes.
Exotic flowers (real or silk) or tropical candle holders or luminaries can be table centerpieces or accents anywhere in your party area.
Grass skirting on the tables is a neat touch too. If you really want to go all out, you can get a grass tiki "hut" and use it as the bar or other serving area.
Don't forget to have Caribbean party themes tableware and napkins in a bright floral or flamingo pattern, mix and match bright tropical solid colors, or even shell-shaped plates and coconut cups!

The Caribbean's unique flavors will be sure to delight your guests! Be sure to use Caribbean sauces and spices like Jerk sauce, Jamacian hot sauce, tabasco, and a host of pepper sauces and spices when creating your food. Some menu ideas are: Jerk Chicken (or Pork Chops, Beef, Lamb), Fried Plantains, Banana Bread, Jamacian Rice and Beans, Fishcakes, Seafood Patties, Coconut Shrimp, Any kind of Kabobs (with Island style spices), Conch Fritters, Spicy Pasta Salad, Crab Souffle, and for those who aren't that adventurous, regular barbequed chicken.
Anyone up for a conga line or limbo? How low can YOU go? Other than those games, I wouldn't "clutter" the party with any scheduled games. Let the music and the guests entertain themselves. Dancing and rum make for great fun!
With a tropical theme, I'd go with coconut or pineapple upside down cake! Or you might want a round or sheet cake decorated as Bob Marley or with the Bemuda Triangle. Other ideas could be a palm tree, Jamacian flag, turquoise ocean with tropical fish, steel drum instruments, etc.

is there any cheats for virtual villagers????

Shelby L

I need cheats please

Answer
While there aren't any undiscovered cheats to be had, there are a few pieces of advice and some general instructions to help you through some of the more complicated aspects of the game. From basic common sense like making sure your villagers have enough food and shelter, to walk-thrus for all 16 puzzles in the game, I've compiled a list of tips and tricks that should help you win the game.

Find More Food - Berries run out quickly so be sure to find a new source of food as soon as possible.

Stay at Home Moms- Nursing mothers focus all their attention on the baby for two years of game time. They won't do any other tasks while caring for the baby.

Population Control - Each baby villager consumes as much food as an adult. Too many babies too quickly will dwindle the food supply, so take care in growing the village population. Also, if there aren't enough houses, the villagers won't have more babies, so by planning carefully when building houses, you can avoid growing the population beyond the food supply.

Doctor, Doctor - Sick villagers don't always respond to the village doctor. If you're not having success in treating a villager with one doctor, try sending them to a different doctor for better treatment.

Watch the Villagers - Observe the villagers to see what they are investigating as you take them exploring around the island. Often the villagers are providing clues to help you solve puzzles later in the game.

Worker Education - Villagers don't discover new work skills on their own. You need to walk each villager through the process of learning how to perform a task in order to be successful. For instance, if you need someone to learn building, have them repair one of the existing buildings in the village.

Solving Puzzles - The 16 puzzles require a combination of skills in order to solve. You'll need a certain level of village technology, villager work skills, and in some cases other puzzles completed prior to completing another puzzle. Below is a list of tips on solving each of the puzzles - don't keep reading if you want them to be a surprise.

Puzzle #1 - Get a builder to clean the well. This is the village water supply. Get a villager with building skill, drag them to the well and let them fix it.

Puzzle #2 - Build a new hut. Population is maxed out at 7 until you build a new hut. A villager trained in building is required to build new huts.

Puzzle #3 - Clean up the beach debris. You need to clean up the debris so the villagers can fish. Drag a villager to the debris and it will start cleaning.

Puzzle #4 - Starting a village school. You need a master scientist. Drag them to the long building north of the reasearch table to start a school.

Puzzle #5 - Remove the blockage of the creek in the northwest corner of the village. Villagers need level 2 in construction to work on this. Drag a villager to the rock pile blocking the water flow from the creek. When the blockage is cleared, water will flow to the lagoon. This puzzle is the key to solving three more puzzles.

Puzzle #6 - You need to complete puzzle #5 first and have a villager with level 3 harvesting. Take a master farmer to the lagoon and they will start hunting fish. This may take awhile.

Puzzle #7 - Discover the graveyard (requires Level 2 of Spirituality). When a villagers dies, drag an adult villager to the northeast corner of the island. The villagers will provide a proper burial the pile of bones in village center. After this first burial, villagers will automatically have burial ceremonies for any deceased villager.

Puzzle #8 - Discover the medicinal properties of 4 plants. One plant is the cactus near the boulder, one plant is near the lagoon, two are on the east side of the island. Drag a villager to each plant until all four are mastered.

Puzzle #9 - You need to complete puzzle #5 first. Drag a villager to the field on the east side of the island (where the dead flowers are). They will water the field with water from the lagoon. Make sure to use a villager with building skill so that the watering continues until the flowers bloom.

Puzzle #10 - Solve puzzle #14 first. Wait for the butterflies to follow the golden child, then drag the golden child to the strange plant north of the berry bush where the butterflies will pollinate the plant.

Puzzle #11 - Restore the temple at the ruins (requires Level 3 of Construction). Drag a villager to the ruins in the southeast of the island and they will begin restoring the ruins.

Puzzle #12 - Requires puzzle #11 complete and Level 3 Spirituality. Drag a builder to the shiny rock on the west side of the village and they will chisel the rock to create an idol.

Puzzle #13 - the birth of the golden child (requires Level 3 of Fertility) . This requires puzzle #5, puzzle #12. Drag a nursing mom to the lagoon.

Puzzle #14 - Requires puzzle #13. Drag the golden child to the magic flower garden and wait for the butterflies.

Puzzle #15 - Buried treasure (requires Level 3 of Construction and Level 3 of Science). Search the sandy areas on the south part of the island between the food bin and the temple.

Puzzle #16 - Moving the boulder (requires the golden child). This one just happens on its own when the golden child is ready, you can't force it.

Need some help with camp ideas?

Kourtney

So for dance camp, we have a little competition where we are judged by what our room theme is. Whoever has the best room theme wins the competition. Some previous room themes have been Avatar, Fruit of the Loom, Hawaii, Birthday party, Christmas, Narnia, Disco, Mickey Mouse, Nike, Neon, USA, etc. My roommate and I are completely lost in what room theme to do! Any ideas? Thanks in advance!! (:

Answer
If you have access to cardboard or cardboard boxes you could do a table game like chess, checkers, monopoly or dominions. Make dice out or boxes, play cards and such to do a casinos.

edit: Do a hospital room with dancers in traction who broke a leg. Use your imagination.

Make racks and use your clothing to make a clothing store.

Use a Sheet to make a screen and do a movie or out door drive in.

Your review on Carlsbad Seapointe Resort in California?

Jennifer S

For those who have been there, whats good and whats bad? how are the rooms?

Answer
This is a wonderful vacation spot!!
Perfect location, helpful staff, across the street from the beach, beach goodies and a wagon available from the activity center, activities for adults and children!!
We had a one bedroom with a full kitchen and a fabulous view.
The location is also marvelous--walking distance to get to the Coaster to get to San Diego, minutes away to get to all kinds of shopping (Costco, outlet mall, restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, etc...), and freeway close to many attractions--perfect!
The lobby area is also very welcoming with coffee, tea, and fruit for the guests.

BEAUTIFUL VIEW right off Carlsbad Blvd!

I celebrated an early Father's Day / Birthday here last weekend and fell in love with Carlsbad. We had a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo. it comes with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, dish washer, cookware, silverware and glassware), and a patio facing the ocean. The VIEW from our room was AMAZING! the ocean was mysterious and deep blue, the sun was shiny and warm, the sea breeze was warm and welcoming - everything was so perfect!

The decor of the condo is a little out of date (e.g. pastel wall border stickers & mint color carpet). The bath tub is a little small. Wish there is more than 1 pool table because it is always taken. But these are minor problems and can be fixed easily.

The rate for a 1br / 1ba condo ranges from $239 ~ $359 per night.

I will definitely come back again for special occasions.
I stayed here for a nice get away while staying local. I had a two bedroom with a full kitchen and a little patio that faced the ocean. This is a real nice place. It has a club house, a gym, two pools (one for adults only) and a fun play area for kids that includes a pirate ship and a little water theme area.

It's located right across the 101 from the ocean, so beautiful views! There is no restaurant but since you have a kitchen you can drive across the I-5 to the Costco or down the road to the Ralph's. They also have a basket ball court, tennis courts, pool and ping pong table on the bottom floor.

The only reason this place didn't get a 5 star rating is because my unit was on the back end of the resort which is facing the Coaster train track (a little noisy) and we were situated right next to the club house which is used for weddings on the weekend. And yes, you guessed right, there was a wedding on the Sunday we checked in. It was a little loud.

I also hear that if you are a owner at this timeshare, you can rent the clubhouse for around $100 or $200! That is a steal! The Clubhouse faces the Ocean and the pool area. Nice location for a casual wedding.

So check on their nightly rates if you are coming to the area because this is a pretty good location. I called the front desk to get an idea of rates and I was told the nightly rate can range from $239 a night during spring and upwards of $300 during peak season. But considering this is for a 2bd/2bath, full kitchen, ocean view, that is pretty good. Across from the ocean, minutes from the freeway, one exit from the Carlsbad Outlet Mall and down the 101 from the quaint little town of Carlsbad.
I stayed here in July of 2009 with my two little girls, ages 3 and 6. We had a one bedroom condo, so they slept on the sleeper sofa and I got my own bed. While not luxurious, the accommodations were nice. Perfect for the beach. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony and a fireplace in the living room. Every morning we would go down to the activity center and pick up a radio flyer wagon, fill it with towels, buckets, and shovels and head off to the beach. My six year old would pull my 3 year old in the wagon across the highway, which sounds scary, but there is a light so it's quite safe. The hotel had events like making snores and a poolside BBQ with live music, at little or no cost. They also offered inexpensive crafts for the kids ($1-$3), and my kids had a great time doing those. I would have come here again this year, but was unable to trade my timeshare, and this year we're at the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort, which is okay, but I prefer the Seapointe.

does anyone remember the paper trick having to do with a group of boy scouts who die in a boating accident?

atticus1_2

when i was a little girl i was taught a trick having to do with boy scouts. you take a piece of regular paper and fold it into shapes that go along with a story of a group of boy scouts who go to camp and eventually die in a boating accident. by the end of the trick the paper has been torn into the shape of a little white t-shirt (which is what the rescue team finds). very odd trick, i know. my children are now in their late teens and early 20's, but they still make me do the trick for their friends. it's a big hit. i know i didn't make this up. i'm simply not that clever. does anyone else know this trick? where did it come from?
my family is very interested to know.

Answer
I know a story very much like it, maybe a different spin on the same one.
You start by folding a boat from a rectangle of paper, pausing when you have the hat of the captain.
http://www.dltk-bible.com/crafts/mboat.htm

When you have made the boat you start with letting it float with smooth moves (through the air, not on water,) and tell about the captain who is making a profitable journey.
Then he comes in a storm, make the boat rock harder, and the mast breaks, (tear out the mast and sail.)
If you want to story to be long you can have the storm die down or the ship being in the eye of the hurricane before coming back in the storm.
Now the bow and aft part of the ship break, (tear each while telling about the mishap happening.)
The ship sinks, with all on board, (let the left over of the boat fall on a table,) and all they find when search is the shirt of the captain. (Unfold the rests of the boat and see it for yourself.)

Better test this before doing it for an audience.

If in the part making the boat you do not fold the lower parts at the red line (in the link above) but a little lower down, the mast and sail will be much higher, compared to the boat itself.

I need to teach some girls about compasses?

Courtney M

I get to teach the compass usage certification at girls camp this year, and I want to do a fun activity with it, but scavenger hunts seem a little overused. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer
Create an Orienteering course where you give the girls a list of headings and distances. The true course takes them down an established path, but you'll see just how many of them miss the mark. I did this with our scout troop last year. They had fun. I walked with them to make sure that they didn't get too far off course. They had to cross a stream. If they followed their headings correctly, they were led to a bridge. Otherwise they had to ford the stream. The final destination was a picnic table that had lunch all setup for them.

Fun stuff to do in hawaii on the big island?

lalala

im going to hawaii with my family any fun ideas?

Answer
1. The Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort, south of Kailua-Kona shines lights on the water at night around their hotel...it has attracted plankton and because there is no coral reef to block sea life that would normally be in the open ocean, the huge manta rays come at night to feed right off the hotel. So you can go at night, but you can also book a tour to do a night dive with the manta rays!
http://www.sheratonkeauhou.com/mantaraye...

2. There is a great catamaran cruise called the Fair Wind that takes you to Kealakekua Bay for snorkeling or scuba diving. You leave from Keauhou Bay for 4-5 hours. Along the way since the water is very deep and no protected lagoons here, you have the chance of seeing flying fish scatter as the boat approaches, as well as spinner dolphins. Once there, the size of tropical fish is amazing.

3. Above Kailua-Kona is the funky artist's town of Holualoa. Hiroki Morinoue (Studio 7 on the main street) and other artists live here. You can also visit the Holualoa Coffee Factory where they package kona coffee from the cooperative of kona coffee growers here and take a short tour to learn about how coffee is graded and packaged.
http://www.konalea.com/

4. South of town in Kealakekua Bay is the City of Refuge, absolutely the most glamorous ancient Hawaiian archeological site, in the most glamorous setting of coconut groves set along the water on black lava.

5. Don't forget to get a slice of macadamia nut pie, basically pecan pie but made with macadamia nuts. YUM.
http://www.macpie.com/

6. There is a restaurant halfway between town and Keahou called Jamieson's. They have a branch in Haleiwa, Oahu which is not very good, this one is better. It is on the ground floor of an old condo one side of Magic Sands beach, but once in the restaurant the views are amazing. When the water is rough the waves splash over the wall on the outside terrace, so beware when selecting a table! They usually have live Hawaiian music.
http://www.jamesonshawaii.com/jamesonsko...

7. Kailua Kona is famous for going on charter boats to go deep sea fishing for marlin, you will see many boats for hire there.

8. There is the Atlantis submarine tours that leave from a pier in town, worth to see once.
http://www.atlantisadventures.com/kona.c...

9. Also in the Kohala area is an irrigation "ditch" tour by boat. Sounds very strange and I have never done this, but friends have and say it was fun, very historic and pretty in places. It was damaged in the earthquake in few years back, check to make sure it is open again.
http://www.flumindaditch.com/

10. In Hilo, there is a Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut visitor center, fantasic free samples!!!!!!!!

11. Akaka Falls, north of Hilo is the most beautiful of all (easily accessible) hawaiian waterfalls.

12. And of course....Kilauea eruptions and Volcano National Park. You can hike, take boat or fly-over tours...

How do I talk my parents into getting me into martial arts?

Drew

I've been wanting to do Tiquando for a really long time and they said as soon as basket ball season was over then I could start and now that it's over they keep procrastinating on it. I called my local martial arts center and they said I get 3 free first lessons to see if I want to do it or not and my moms complaining about how expensive it'll be even though she hasn't even checked the prices and she has plenty of money. She payed for a basketball camp in the summer for me that was like $1700. And she's always blowing money on the stupidest things. She even bought a fake brass table for $700 dollars and got ripped off and didn't even take it back.

Answer
Talk about how much you want to do Taekwondo and you want to know to defend yourself in case someone attacks you in the street.
Sometimes it can be hard for parents letting their child do Martial Arts because some parents might think "they could get hurt" or "I don't want my child to fight" but it's really not about fighting as it is about defending yourself.

What digital picture frame would you buy and why?

tkept

I want to buy a digital picture frame and there are many to choose from. I want a 7 or 8 inch screen to put on a table. I am not interested in music in it. Considering price, picture clarity and user friendly, what are your suggestions, makes and models?

Answer
I like the classic look of this frame.

But, I would probably buy this one because it has a motion sensor which means I wouldn't have to turn it on or off all of the time.

There are a whole lot of other frames here. I highly recommend looking at the best rated ones and reading the reviews to see what other people have said about them.

What kind of 14th century kitchen would a peasant have?

Audra

If you lived back then, what would the kitchen look like and where would you keep all of the food? Would there have been an oven or stove [obviously not modern] or something like it? Just curious!

Answer
One point about medieval life that is often overlooked is that not all peasants were the same. Some were much better off than others, and owned more land, and could afford a better lifestyle. in 'Life in a Medieval Village' Frances and Joseph Gies write:

'All the village houses belonged to the basic type of medieval building, the "hall" as did the manor house, the barns, and even the church, a single high-ceilinged room, varying in size depending on the number of bays or framed sections. In peasant houses, bays were usually about fifteen feet square.

The house of a rich villager might consist of four or even five bays, with entriy in the middle of a long side. small service rooms were probably partitioned off at one end: a buttery, where drink was kept, and a pantry, for bread, dishes, and utensils, with a passage between leading to a kitchen outside. A large hall might retain the ancient central hearth, or be heated by a fireplace with a chimney fitted into the wall.

A middle-level peasant probably lived in a three-bay house, the commonest type. A cotter (peasants without land) might have a small one-or-two-bay house. Dwellings commonly still lodged animals as well as human beings, but the byre was more often partititioned off and sometimes positioned at right angles to the living quarters.

Interiors were lighted bya few windows, shuttered but unglazed, and by doors, often open during the daytime, through which children and animals wandered freely. Floors were of beaten earth covered with straw or rushes. In the centre a fire of wood or of peat burned on a stone heearth, vented through a hole in the roof. Some hearths were crowned by hoods or funnels to channel the smoke to the makeshift chimney, which might be capped by a barrel with its ends knocked out. The atmosphere of the house was perpetually smoky from the fire burning all day as water, milk, or porridge simmered on pots on trivets or in footed brass or iron kettles. At night a fire-cover, a large round ceramic lid with holes, could be put over the blaze.

The family ate seated on benches or stools at a trestle table, disasembled at night. Chairs were rarities. A c upboard or hutch held wooden and earthenware bowls, jugs, and wooden spoons. Hams, bags and baskets hung from the rafters, away from rats and mice. Clothing, bedding, towels and table linen were stored in chests. A well-t-do peasant might own silver spoons, brass pots, and pewter dishes.

The peasant's basic need was subsistence, which meant food and drink produced from grain. The main necessities of life were bread, pottage or porridge, and ale. Most peasant bread was made from 'maslin' a mixture of wheat and rye or barley and rye, baked into a coarse dark loaf, consumed in great quantities by men, women and children.

For the poorer peasant families, pottage was favored over bread as more economical, since it required no milling and therefore escaped both the miller's exaction and the naturla loss of quality in the process. Peas and beans supplied protein and amino acids to both pottage and bread. A little fat bacon or salt pork might be added to the pottage along with onions and garlic from the garden. In spring and summer a variety of vegetables ws available, and some crofts grew fruit trees. Nuts, berries and roots were gathered in the woods.

A middling family probably owned a cow or two or three ewes, to provide a supply of milk, cheese, and butter. Most households kept chickens and pigs to furnish eggs and occasional meat. Slated and dried fish were available for a price, as were eels, which also might be fished for.

How would you convince a Nazi death camp commandant that he should stop killing Jews?

Dr. SC1enc

How would you convince a Nazi death camp commandant that he should stop killing Jews SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS WRONG?

For the purposes of answering this question, it is IMPORTANT for you to read and consider the following factual context (PLEASE read it):

(1)The commandant knows that he will suffer no severe negative consequences by refusing to work in the Nazi death camp. He is certain that the higher Nazi authorities will simply transfer him to some other administrative work outside the camp system.

(2)The commandant knows another person will take his place as commandant in the camp, so the killing in the camp will almost certainly continue whether he is there or not.

(3)The commandant knows that if every man in Europe refused to work as a commandant in the Nazi death camps, then there would be no Nazi death camps and no Jews would be murdered in them, and perhaps no Jews would be murdered at all. But he knows it is very unlikely that every man in Europe will refuse to do such work, though, he also knows this scenario is not impossible.

(4)The commandant has no fear of being punished after the war, for the crimes in his Nazi death camp, by the nations which may end up defeating Nazi Germany, since: (a) he considers it a virtual certainty that Germany will win the war, and
(b) he has a foolproof plan to escape to Argentina with a false identity just in case Nazi Germany happens to lose the war.

(5)The commandant has no fear of being punished by God because he thinks God is simply an ancient myth. He has the same regard for Karma.

(6)The commandant expects to benefit financially and to benefit greatly in terms of prestige and career advancement if he continues to serve the Nazis as commandant in the death camp until all the Jews in Europe are dead.

(7)The commandant is already well aware that people who subscribe to conventional morality would be appalled to see this mass murder of Jews in the death camps, and would condemn him if they knew about it, and would try to talk him out of doing it if they had the chance. But the commandant does not subscribe to the conventional morality has been convinced by the Nazi higher morality, according to which:
(a) Might Makes Right (the reverse, that Right Makes Might, is a Jewish idea which has been thorough debunked)
(b) Only the strongest and best humans have a right to existence, a right that is proven and won in struggle with others. Rights that are simply written on paper in government constitutions and government laws have no meaning, do not produce or build anything, don't feed or house anyone, are counterproductive of life, heap unjust burdens on the productive people, are unnatural, and are unsustainable in the long run.
(c ) There isn't room or resources on the planet for every human being, so some must go. It's really just that simple.
(d) In all of Nature there is continuous struggle in which those who are less able to compete must and do die. Human beings are flesh and blood beings which a part of Nature just as much as tigers and gazelles and grass. Angels and gods have never been seen by anyone, and are simply inventions of weak minds.
(e) To coddle, protect, indulge, feed or have mercy on the weak is a Jewish idea which has been a plague on the earth and which has weakened the Aryan race. It was this Jewish idea that led to the defeat of Germany in the war of 1914-1918.
(f) The Jews themselves have committed genocide against other races and nations in the past, as clearly depicted in their Bible. Therefore, they have no right to complain if the tables on turned on them. They have not right to claim that they have a higher morality.
(g)The Jews, though being sub-humans, are living beings, and so are entitled to suffer as little as possible. Therefore, we kill them quickly and painlessly in gas chambers that they think are going to be de-lousing showers. It is all over in a minute or so. The Zykon-B gas works very quickly. We aren't killing them in an inhumane manner, we aren't torturing them the way medieval Catholics and Protestants tortured heretics and witches, at least not in the camps. No Jew is being burned alive, for example.
(h)Everyone dies sooner or later. No one lives for ever. All the Jews that we the Nazis kill in our camps would die sooner or later anyway. We are simply expediting their deaths for the cause of a greater human civilization.
(i)If the Jews weren't so perverted in their minds they would understand what a plague they have been to human civilization. And if they did understand what a plague they have been to human civilization, they would kill themselves for the good of humankind, much in the way some murderers kill themselves after coming to understand the wickedness of the harm they have inflicted on others and realize that they can't ever make amends for what they've done, and cannot change, or cannot ever be redeemed or forgiven.

Answer
I don't know if you could, you have to remember that hitler was the leader, they had to do what he said, so you would have to convince the leader that it was wrong or convince all the soldiers to turn on the bad leader
