My husband and I are 30 and 26 respectively and our anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. Considering I have been laid off we need to keep the celebration modest, but would like to do something. Any ideas besides the obvious free way to celebrate an anniversary :) ?

Located adjacent to Table Rock Lake and near Branson, Mo., one of the hottest tourism spots in the United States, "Table Rock State Park" offers easy lake access and is a short drive to area attractions and entertainment.

Somebody please help with games and activitys to do for 3 hours? Its for a fourteen year old girl with all girl party. Thanks so much! 10 points for best answer, i promise.

Answer
Here are two additional links to outdoor games for teens:
http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf62635119.tip.html
http://parentingteens.about.com/od/birthdays/a/birthdayparty.htm
At my family get-togethers we always played catch, frisbee, softball, volleyball, horseshoes, and various types of tag. We also had a fire pit at our house and that was fun to just sit around and talk or roast hot dogs or marshmellows/s'mores.

Any ideas for things to do at an outdoor party?

Jess

I'm throwing a party and I have a pretty big backyard so I'll have a fire and probably set up a beer pong table (drinking game). I've had parties in the past and always wanted more ideas for things to do to make it more exciting. My neighbor is a DJ and she might set up in the back yard. Anyone have any other ideas?

Answer
volley ball
baseball
horseshoes
water balloon toss
card games board games ( on a 1 hour timer)
boccie ball
karaoke/ or lip sinc
balloon break ( put the baloon between two people and see who can break it first)

Can anyone recommend any specific eastern Caribbean cruise destinations & cruise lines?

beach pool tables prices on ... table accessories crafts, interior decorator, interior crafts

TC

My wife & I have never taken a cruise, and we're looking to take one next spring sometime. She's wanting to go to the Virgin Islands and some other eastern Caribbean destinations. Anyone have any suggestions on a particular destination and/or specific cruise line?

Answer
I have been on about 20 cruises with five different cruise lines and cruised all of the Caribbean routes and Mexico. Here's what I recommend based on my experiences.

There are two factors to consider when planning a cruise (1) what activities are on ship and the demographics of the other passengers, and (2) what port stops will be made that I will enjoy.

I have been on Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity and Princess. All of these are good cruise lines. Royal Caribbean cruise line has some of the best on board activities including on various ships, ice skating or roller blading, mini-golf, table tennis, rock climbing wall, basketball court and on the new Freedom class ships, Liberty, Freedom and Independence of the Seas the flowrider where you can body surf right on ship. There are always pools and hot tubs and many ship have a Solarium (a cover area) with a pool and hot tubs for adults only. This is in addition to the regular pool and hot tubs for everyone. Some ships have water slides.

All of these lines have ships have great gymnasiums with a variety of equipment. The RC's Freedom and Liberty have THE best gyms I have ever seen on ships.

You did not say where you live but you can cruise to the Caribbean from as far north as NY City. And, the Caribbean gives you many more options for itineraries, for departure ports (cruises go to the Caribbean from as far north as NY City and then all over Florida, plus New Orleans, Houston (Galveston) Texas, and Mobile, Alabama. So the Caribbean offers many more departure ports, ships, dates and options. And, for example if you want to go on the cruise lines newer ships your best bet is to go Caribbean out of Port Canaveral, Ft Lauderdale, or Miami, Florida.

The main things that you want to do is book very early and by that I mean 9 to 12 months or more in advance so that you can get the best price. All you need is a $250 to $300 deposit per person to book and hold your reservation and then you just pay it in full by 70 days beforfe the cruise. Also in the Caribbean you want to try to stay away from the hurricane season which in June through the end of October. Secondly, look for the specials that will be listed on each cruise line's web site. Let that help determine when and where to go.

There are really three basic types of itineraries for the Caribbean. Western Caribbean cruises typically go to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and a private cruise line island. If you go to Cozumel there is the opportunity to buy a tour to see Mayan ruins, if that's your interest. Its considered the best place to go for scuba and snorkeling. If you go to Jamaica the two main attractions are a river raft float trip (not rapids) and the Dunn's River Falls climb. If you go to Grand Cayman you will likely want to go to 7-Mile Beach or do a swim with the dolphins/stingrays tour.

Cruises to the Eastern Caribbean typically go to St Thomas, St Maarten, a private cruise line island and maybe another island like Tortola or Puerto Rico. If you want to do a lot of shopping then pick a cruise with St Thomas as one of the port stops. St Maarten is also mainly a beach and shopping stop.

Most Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises have a private island stop where the ship takes food ashore for an all day beach party with games and entertainment. All of the cruise lines have what they call their private island and you can have a great day on these islands; only ship's people on them for the day. Royal Caribbean has THE best private island I have ever been to at Labadee, Haiti. Its a huge place that has multiple beaches and many activities. RC's ships the Freedom and The Liberty which do both the Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries both have stops at Labadee.

The Southern Caribbean cruise itineraries typically start in Puerto Rico and go either to Aruba, Curacao, and St Thomas and St Maarten, OR they go to the southern Caribbean islands like Barbados, Grenada, Antigua, St Lucia and maybe St Thomas and/or St Maarten. For the most part these latter islands are very much alike but nice to see. The main difference between these two Southern Caribbean itineraries, aside from the different islands, is the Aruba cruise has two "at sea" days with no port stops, while the other has a port stop about each day.

My favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean but you cannot go wrong with Celebrity, Princess or Holland America. If you are looking for a real budget cruise and a party ship go on Carnival. If you want to basically be informal the whole cruise go on Norwegian. Finally, while you are looking at cruises pay attention to the ship and when it was launched. The best cruises will be on the newer ship, those launched about 2000 or later. That's my experienced opinion and advice.

If all of this does not answer your questions just go to a travel agent, like an AAA or American Express office, and they will answer your questions and help you book at no cost

Which is the best all inclusive hotel to stay at in Cancun?

Chris

My 3 friends and I (4 guys) are planing on a trip to cancun in june 09. I stayed once at the cancun palace but I heard the oasis has more of a party flavor. However I read crappy reviews for Oasis. We want to stay in a decent hotel (nothing fancy) with a good party scene. Must be all inclusive though!

Answer
The deal with Oasis is this... It's the official spring break hotel of spring break year after year and everybody goes there for the partying. It's the best place to stay in Cancún for spring break, but ONLY for spring break. The reviews are right... because of being the party hotel for spring break over the years it has taken a beating. It's pretty run down from all the wild kids trashing it. The only time I recommend people stay at Oasis is during spring break other than that I wouldn't recommend it to stay. Any other time it's just a regular hotel like any other one in Cancún.
Now... the place I would recommend is a Riu hotel. There are three in Cancún... Riu Cancún, Riu Palace Las Americas, and Riu Caribe. Being that you are four single guys wanting to have fun and party I would recommend Riu Caribe. It's got a great atmosphere and it's a great hotel for guys wanting to have fun. It's about a five minute bus ride to all the popular clubs, shopping, and restaurants. They have a big beach (over 330 yrds. long) and a huge pool (125 yrds. long). Another good thing is that they have an entertainment staff called the Anamacion Team. It's their sole purpose to make sure you have a great time. During the day they do different activities such as pool/beach games. At night they put on shows and then after ward they take whomever wants to go out on the town to a different club every night. They are fun to hang with and get you into all the clubs with VIP access. Another good thing that I like about the Riu Caribe is that they have a 24 hr. sports bar. It's good because sometimes you want to come back from the clubs and contiue to party, but most hotels close their bars at 12 or 1 A.M., but not Riu Caribe... their sports bar is always open. They have sports on on all their flat screen tvs, they have a pool table, video games, internet, food, and of course they party up their and make all kinds of cool drinks. All the Rius are nice and all three are all-inclusive, but Riu Caribe is my favorite. Another good thing is that if you stay at a Riu you can go to the other ones and use the pool/beach, eat at the restaurants, hang out at the bars, etc. you just have to sleep at the one you booked. So, it's like getting three hotels for the price of one. OH... and something else you might like... they got some really cute (actually HOT is more like it... LOL) Latina girls that work there that are on the Anamacion Team. So, you will be able to party with them because they are the ones that take you out at night to all the clubs. All in all though definitely go with a Riu. I'll give you a few links to check out and see if you like it. If you have any questions about anything feel free to send me a message and I'll be able to help you out with whatever you need. Have fun and enjoy your time... Cancún is a blast!!!

Charity booth game ideas and items to sell for hawiian theme?

beach theme table decorations image

Nancy

my friends and I have a booth at relay for life and our theme is hawiian and tropical. what are some games, raffles or items we could sell to raise money for donations?

Answer
At my high school, we had a beach week that raised money for a scholarship, and it's one of our biggest events - so I've been here! We sold sausage balls, brownies, and general food items, but also sold Hawiian themed items like virgin margaritas and grilled pineapple. It's also fun to set up a Wii and a TV and charge a dollar per game of Just Dance - they have loads of summery, fun songs on the game! You can also have fun with decorations and use grass skirts as table skirts, and wear swimming trunks, Hawiian printed shirts, sandals, etc.

You could have a silent auction of beach-themed items like:
*A basket of beach/vacation necessities like sunscreen, a bathing suit, beach towels, beach reads, a sun hat, a beach chair, a beach ball, inflatables, a sand bucket, etc.
*Swimming trunks, bathing suits
*Surf boards, boogie boards
*Gas cards

Set up a stereo and play summer music, and have a mini dance party!
Have a pineapple-eating contest.

I wish you the best of luck!

need ideas for birthday party decorations that cover every month of the year for 130 girls?

dmr

this is a girls camp with a cruise theme. each night is a differet theme. 1st night we want to have a big birthday party. we need to set up tables to seperate grls according to the month they were born. need ideas on how to decorate each table and the lodge in general. thought about using holidays or seasons and even birthstoneswhich i loved but cannot find 2 website with the same birthstone information. we want it to be special and affordable. party favors too-help!!!

Answer
January- garnet birthstone so you could either do a red theme or find some red colored rocks or fake gems or just do a happy 2008 theme with icy blue colors and party hats for ringing in the "new year"

February- play up the birthstone of amethyst which is purple or do a valentines day theme with red hots (candies) red table cloths and tissue paper in pink

March- birthstone is Aquamarine which is highly expensive and it is hard to find I wouldn't do the birthstone of this month but I would play up the fun of March's cooler weathered plants coming back to life like tulips or St. Pat's day with the clovers

April- diamonds..you could find those big huge fake diamond rings or diamond looking accents for the napkins etc. I would play up the fact that it rains a lot in April or April fools day. gag gifts like whoopie cushions and umbrellas with fake tinsel hanging off them like rain

May- green emerald colors and you could use the cinco de mayo theme with pinatas and "margarita esque" drinks

June- beach theme summer time, beach balls, sand in candle holders with some sea shells and little mini sunscreens or cheapo glasses

July- red, white and blue theme (I'm american and that is USA to me!) have some red table cloths or white ones, flags, things of that nature use those items that look like tinsel in different colors to make a firecracker effect with a vase

August- peridot or light green color which you could play up for the table.Or just do a different theme of outdoors with fun things to do to beat the heat since august is a relatively HOT month (water balloons, popcicle makers, mini fans)

September- dark blue sapphire color which could be used for this or you could go with a back to school theme with books, rulers, cool pens, markers erasers etc.

October- halloween theme for sure play on the pumpkins, and witches gouls theme endless possibilities there have a cauldron on the table and fill with candies and little goodies like pencils etc.

November- turkey's on the table, leaves all over, pretty oranges, yellow and brown colors. November is citrine which is a rich yellow color and it could be played up for the table. Add a cornocopia for presentation if you would like

December- have some fake snow on the table the stuff that looks like cotton balls or heck buy cotton balls and place around in clumps on the table for a snowy effect. Have some wrapped dummy packages or have some dradels along with this theme so that you can support everyone's religious backgrounds. You could use gift wrap to decorate the table or table cloth with or even make place mats with the stuff

I suggest that for each month you take the theme's above and make name tags for the campers with the theme's in mind. example: December- stocking or candy cane shaped name tag...March- clover shaped name tag..etc.

Have fun with it!

Do you have any good hostess gift ideas for us to take to Germany?

best beach coffee table books on NeeneBoo's Circle
best beach coffee table books image

Pam W

We are visiting a former exchange student and her family. They brought wonderful gifts when they visited us, what can I bring them?

Answer
Something distinct to your region of the country. For example, if you're from New England... some maple candies, real maple syrup or a coffee table book that shows the nature & different seasons. If you're from a beach area, a seashell picture frame with a pic of her with your family while she was in school.

Remember, for something like this, the $$$ isn't as important as the sentiment.

How can I get back and improve my imagination?

Aria

I am an artist, so imagination is very important. However, I've noticed that mine is fading. Does anyone know of any exercises that will help? I've tried the whole looking at other art thing, and it's only temporary.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Aria! We all hit the wall and our imagination packs up and leaves us behind wondering what happened. It's not a great feeling especially when you've had the benefit of a lively imagination for a long time. I would suggest just not stressing about it, that only makes the situation worse and turns the whole thing into a vicious cycle. Give yourself permission to take a mental holiday right now. In the meantime, read some good fiction that you've been putting aside, see some movies. I would say that Avatar sounds like a good one to see if you're into that genre of movie. At the same time, I'd suggest journaling each day and writing about what you're feeling, what you're doing to get past those feelings and here's the biggie, why you think your imagination is fading. Be open, honest and tell it like it really is. Read back over your journal entries at the end of each week and see if there is a common thread. Has your home life been taking over your life completely leaving you drained of any energy to feed your imagination? Imagination is just like a small child demanding to be fed, NOW. So, you need to take the time to feed your starving mind. Reading, seeing movies, being good to yourself, taking long bubble baths with the bathroom door locked and a do not disturb sign on it. Once you're feeling a little more like yourself, make a cup of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or whatever the beverage of choice is and sit down with a sketch pad, some colored pencils and just doodle away for an hour. Put the pad away, go about your regular schedule. Do this for a few days in a row to see if you can persuade your imagination that it's safe to come out and play again. Now, move on to a few more difficult challenges. Take your sketchbook and illustrate some key portions of some books you just read. Illustrate how you think that movie you saw should have looked on screen. Think of yourself in the movie Avatar, how would your avatar look? Now draw it. Keep doing simple things like this and it will jump start your imagination and the ideas will flow. Keep a notebook with you to jot down ideas that come to you while you're out and about. You just never know when your imagination is going to rev up its engine and go full out giving you more images than you can possibly write down. You can do this, we all have to learn to feed our imaginations to keep them alive and nurtured if we're going to benefit from them. Who said you had to stop imagining things when you became an adult? How many times have we all heard
"stop daydreaming and wasting your life away?" Well, guess what, it's not a waste of time and we still need to dream even when we're grown ups. So, sit back, sketch pad in hand and let your mind take you to some imaginary lands, to a sandy beach somewhere sunny and south or perhaps to a wonderful bed and breakfast in a quaint old village somewhere deep in Scotland. You have the power to do all this, but you need to give yourself permission to dream and then to draw what you saw, what you felt, how everything looked so new and fresh. It's a cheap holiday, but it's a vital one for an artist to take every day. Also, go to http://robertgenn.com/ and scroll to the bottom of the page and sign up for his twice weekly e-mail newsletters. Sometimes they're funny, sometimes a little sad, but they are always insightful. It's almost like you are sitting down with him at your kitchen table drinking coffee and chatting about the challenges of being an artist. I think you'll find some inspiration in his stories and you can go to the home page and read the archives of previous newsletters. He's a very prolific painter, managing to paint well over 200 paintings a year. He hits the wall just like the rest of us, but somehow he knows just what he needs to inspire him and get him back on track and he's willing to share this information with you. Hope this helps you a bit and that you may have smiled once or twice through this epic answer. I'd be lost without my imagination, I'd never survive nor would I want to. Keep positive and I promise, the days will get brighter, your imagination will come back full force and this colorless time will be a distant memory.

I need a table and chair that I can fold up/ roll up and put in a backpack with a laptop so I can work in places that don't have tables. Any ideas? Camping stuff? The ones I've seen so far fold up but wouldn't easily fit in a backpack. And the chairs that fold up are for leaning back and sitting in, not working at a computer in.

Answer
http://www.nwbackpack.com/products/travel_chair_slacker_stool.php there is a very small compact chair that should fit in any backpack.

Creative place card ideas?

It's for a tropical themed event. I need something to put on the tables so guests know where to sit/what table to sit at. Anything creative other than plain old cards?

Also, where can I buy place cards?

Answer
Floral outlets, wedding planning outlets, business supplies, party supply outlets should have place cards.

OR

Do a Napkin holder band with room for name, decorate with tropical flower.

OR

Make a variety of "tents" place holders using a program such as Print Shop. Create a Postcard that can be folded in half thus creating your tent. Hand write name on tents.

Depending on number of people, choose a variety of graphics that go with your theme. Print on heavy weight paper. Can vary colors.
Cut out, fold.

Table for four would use one set of graphics if you want to theme the tables themselves.
Beach
Sunbathing
Sandcastle
Sunset
Life guards
Light houses
Luau
Music and beach dancing
Beach volley ball
Beach chair, towel, shade
Palm trees, coconut, pineapple
Variety of sea shells
Different pictures of sea shell decorations
Sea gulls and sand pipers
Beach scenes and waves

Can place Candles in sand on/in appropriate dish.
Palm leaf place mat; straw place mats; beach mat for runner on buffet table. New kids sand toys as decor on tables.
Hula dressed Barbie type dolls. Decorated Conch shells.
Palm tree centerpiece. Sand art cake with Non-real seashell decoration. Tint icing sand color, decorate shaped cake on top of larger flat layer, garnish with footprints, sea shells, sand tops, tiny flip flops. Can have table cloths with tiny footprints walking across sand. Enlist small children for this one, beige table cloths with darker beige paint for foot prints.

Have a beach decorated CANVAS for those attending to sign in a darker sand color of course. Can be a door prize or be gifted to the person or organization in whose honor the event is being held.

I am trying to save money so I can go to a basketball camp

Answer
It depends on how old you are.

If you're 15 or older, you could try to find part time work. In the UK, 15 year olds don't have a minimum wage but you may be able to find work in a local business or store doing small jobs. It's not easy, but possibly it's something to look into. Having connections helps, but they're not vital.

If you live in a close-knit neighbourhood, you could try doing jobs for neighbours such as car washing or dog walking. A paper round is also a good choice if you have the time.
If there are any car boot sales or table top sales, you could try selling some old books, sports equipment or video games?

There are online survey sites, but it takes a while to earn money from them.

You could try entering competitions, but you would have to look hard to find one. Recently, there was a Bosch science essay competition, so if you look for competitions like that, you may be able to win a cash prize. It usually takes longer than a month for the deadline to pass and the winners to be decided.

Sorry that I can't help you much. I don't know about the laws regarding child employment in the USA, nor do I know much about ways to earn money there. :/

oDesk sounds good, but I don't know if there is an age limit. For freelance work, you have to be very motivated and good with deadlines. Since freelancing is rather serious, asking a parent or older sibling to help you manage deadlines would be beneficial.
Personally, I'm a terrible procrastinator but if freelancing sounds do-able, go for it.

what are fun activities for couples to do 10 points to who ever has the most activity?

Jon R

what are fun things to keep me and my girlfriend busy id like to know hobbies. games sex games all that

Answer
On rainy days

1. Clear out the garage, attic, cupboards or wardrobes* - it really doesn't matter as long as you do it together.

2. Go charity shopping. While away the hours browsing for books, CDs, games, retro clothing, bric-a-brac. You could try a carboot sale or trawl round some antique shops.

3. Get some exercise. Go swimming or ice skating, or enjoy a walk in the rain.

4. Enjoy a movie marathon.* Visit the video shop, stack up on snacks and spend the day being film critics. And if you're stuck for inspiration, take a look at bbc.co.uk/films to find out which new releases should be top of your list!

5. Visit an art gallery. Find an exhibition in your area.

6. Step back in time and visit a museum. Many of the buildings themselves deserve a look and you never know you might learn something at the same time!

7. Improve your memory. Try our online memory test then spend the day testing each other's powers of recall.

8. Discover yourself. Bookshops and the internet offer a wealth of personal-profiling tools, which can help you find out your personality type, your IQ or your relationship style.

9. Make something,* such as a coffee table, some shelves, a bird table, pottery dishes, vases, face sculpture, candles or soap. Craft shops are full of ideas.

10. Go to the football or rugby.* Even if you're not into the sport, you'll find the atmosphere electric. Especially if your team is playing their arch rivals! Take a look at the fixture list before you go.

11. Have an evening of pick'n'mix. Take a look at the TV listings and create a night of entertainment.
On sunny days

12. Go for a stroll* - anywhere you like.

13. Take a hike. Find a nice big hill and see who can fall into an exhausted heap at the top first.

14. Go for a bike ride.* Like walking, cycling can be energetic or gentle - it's up to you. But either way it's sure to give your health a boost!

15. Hire a boat. Choose from an energetic canoe ride, a romantic row down the river or the wind in your hair in a sailing boat.

16. Visit the park.* Spend the day on the swings or play a game of tennis. If you're really adventurous, you could even try out your skateboarding skills on the half-pipe.

17. Take to horseback. Look in your local directory for places that offer riding lessons (you may need to book in advance). Or better still, along a beautiful beach!

18. Be risky. Try some exptreme sports - skydiving, rock climbing, potholing, ballooning, motor racing... the list is endless. (You'll definitely need to book ahead, though.)

19. Visit a stately home.* You might even get some inspiration for your own love nest!

20. Obey your animal instincts by visiting a zoo or farm.* Relax as you wander round the park. And if you don't like spiders you can always go and talk to the monkeys!

21. Remember the picnic.* To make all the above even more enjoyable, don't forget to pack some gorgeous food and wine. Let BBC Food help you choose the perfect tipple!
At the weekend

22. Walk this way - the Pennine Way, the Cotswold Way, the South Downs Way, the Milky Way...

23. Go youth hostelling.* There are more than 100 youth hostels around the UK catering for individuals, couples and families - and they're cheap. Can you guess where?

24. Take a city break. Look at UK options as well as those in Europe and the US.

25. Book a themed weekend break. There are plenty of options, from murder mystery tours to salsa dancing to yoga.

26. Go camping,* either in your own back garden or at one of the hundreds of specialised sites around the country. Staying put will give your children the chance to learn more about their surroundings...

27. Visit friends or relatives.* Take the chance to spend time with people in another part of the country. If they can't put you up for the night, book into a B&B.

28. Indulge and pamper yourself at a health farm.

29. Pick any room in your house and give it a complete makeover.

30. Spring clean the house or give your garden a serious sort out. Make sure you take regular breaks and treat yourself to a delicious takeaway or meal out in the evening.
When the children are in bed

31. Play games, whether they're board games, computer games, card games or naughty games...

32. Work your mind with brain-teasers, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords or quiz books. See how your IQ rates against the rest of the nation!

33. Pamper each other. Give your partner a massage, manicure and pedicure. We all need a little pampering sometimes!

34. Rent a film to suit your mood, be it a comedy, weepy, romance or horror movie.

35. Star gaze. Lie in the garden and see if you can name the constellations.

36. Have a blind food tasting.

37. Enjoy a romantic dinner for two: light those candles, put on some soft music and get out the posh crockery. As if you needed an excuse to indulge!

38. Have a picnic in the garden.

39. Put on a themed evening. Try a little Eastern promise or

Vida B.

Altogether, 6 pieces. Table, bench, 4 chairs.

A smaller version of this: http://www.eco-furniture.com/im/3250/shinbutsu-dining-4.jpg

This set normally costs about $3,500, so of course I'm looking to spend less than that if possible.
Ack! Thanks for the answer so far, it's looking like I should just go ahead and buy the set instead!

Answer
I would charge no less than $5,000, more depending on what type wood you wanted. I can't compete with China.

How can I get a designer to come to my house and help me redo my basement?

BB4

I'm not very creative, so I need help with ideas for my basement. I want to hire a personal designer, but I don't know where to do this, how much it costs, or how it works.

Answer
if there is a designer school in your area like Baker College, call and ask for a student about ready to graduate and see if they want to take on the project inexpensively.
When you go to a restaurant, or upscale grocery store, ask who designed it and call them.
What does your family like to do? If they are all men and boys, make it like a work shop theme with tool carts for end tables, brushed steel for furniture, and so on, or if they are into sports, use old lockers and give it a locker room feel with benches for the coffee table. If you have girls- do you want a garden theme with lattice walls? and a "secret garden" hiding spot?
My basement is a rec room with only a ping pong table, and laundry room- it is not a place to hang out.

What is the length of a traditional A frame picnic table?

Rusty B.

I need to buy a screen house for a camping trip and I'm wondering if anybody knows what the length of a standard park picnic table is (the A frame tables with attached benches that are as long as the table top is). Please help!

Answer
They are pretty much standard and are available in 6ft and 8ft lengths. They also measure 5.5 ft across, bench edge to bench edge. I have been to State Parks however that were a bit larger than 8ft. If you are going to a campsite, you can call ahead and they should be able to tell you the table sizes before you go. A 10'X10' screened in dining fly should cover any of the easily and still allow you room to get around in them. Happy Camping!

How to decorate for a backyard summer camp party?

camp tables on Camping Tables
camp tables image
Q. My 3 year old daughter is having a camp theme party and want to decorate so you really feel like you are camping

Answer
Make a large wooden sign at the entrance to the "Camp Site" and have other signs pointing the way to the toilets and showers, picnic area and wildlife trail.
Set the tents around a central seating area with the campfire as a centerpiece. Lay out low benches for sitting on or just use mats or planks of wood balanced on rocks.
Decorate the inside of the tents with streamers and balloons
Around the edges of the camp, erect some citronella torches. These will keep the bugs away and add to the camp atmosphere.
Place cuddly toys in the tress and bushes for the younger kids to discover or for the older kids, hang plastic bugs around the camp. Use glow in the dark bugs and stars which will be fun later on when it gets dark.
Hang multi colored Chinese lanterns around the garden. Some kids just can't help playing with candles so be careful where you place them.
Set up a food table and cover with green or camouflage cloth. Use plastic tableware or tin plates and cups. Provide bug stickers for each child to personalize his/her own plate and mug. It saves muddling them up.
You can also add:
Bug stickers and tattoes
T-shirts with the name of the camp and date of the birthday camping party

How much is air force boot camp pay and what are some good jobs to select?

BigZach

I scored a pretty high score on ASVAB and I was wondering what would be a good field to go into.
I was also wondering about the pay for boot camp and also this job Special Operations Weather apprentice. Please give me advice Thanks!

Answer
Here is the link to DFAS 2010 pay table. During basic, you would be paid as an E-1.
http://www.dfas.mil/militarypay/militarypaytables/2010WebPayTable34.pdf

Talk to a recruiter about the field you want to enter. Make sure you have a job reserved in that field. My recruiter had me go in Open General field, and told me I'd "probably" get the job I wanted. I didn't. Get a reserved job in the field you want or tell the recruiter you will take your nice high ASVAB score to the Army recruiter. He'll get you in.

How much would you guess a 3 horse steel living quarters trailer weighs?

Destiny

A solid steel, 3 horse trailer with living quarters. BIG trailer, probably 30ft long. Horse area around 7x7 or maybe a little bigger.

If any of you have steel trailers and could make a weight guess, I just want to get a ballpark idea.

How much would it weigh empty? How much would you say it would weigh with three horses, loaded water tanks, and camping gear?

Answer
Did a brief google, and found 3 which look like aluminum:

10,400 pounds: http://sandwfeeds.com/gooseneck-horse-trailers/lq-horse-trailer-for-sale-43567.html

http://sandwfeeds.com/2-horse-trailers/2-horse-exiss-lq-trailer-for-sale-43685.html

14,000 pounds: http://sandwfeeds.com/3-horse-trailers/3-horse-lq-trailer-for-sale-44304.html

An all steel model will be substantially heavier. Even these trailers are too heavy to be pulled by a pickup truck, and would need a special truck for hauling. Even a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup cannot safely haul these weights.

You would also have to add weight for:

3 people (500 pounds)
3 horses (3,000 pounds)
gear/water/etc. (1,000 pounds)

That would be my rough guesstimate.

Edit: Found another interesting website

TRAILER WEIGHTS

The weights shown here are from Double D Trailers in North Carolina. I use them because the trailer they make is made of steel and are heavyweight trailers.

I also have used the tack room style or living quarters style because they are the heaviest. If someone is using a pure stock trailer, it will be lighter in weight.

3 Horse Trailer with Tack Room 5100 lbs
4 Horse Trailer with Tack Room 5500 lbs
3 Horse Trailer with Living Quarters * 11,500 lbs

*This is a monster, fully equipped.

Combination weights

Normal situation.
2500 Pickup plus 3 horse trailer plus 3 horses
8600 + 5100 + 3300 = 17,000 lbs

Extreme Case
3500 Pickup plus 3 horse with LQ plus 3 horses
11,400 + 11,500 + 3300 = 26,200"

who has had the opportunity to travel to hawaii ?
how was the trip? i really hope to travel to hawaii .sometime.
well just curious from what people thought who got to vistied.thanx.

Answer
I have had the greatest pleasure traveling to Oahu Hi with my husband and our son. We three have been there six times and have stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel four out of the six times.
We have never been to any of the other islands, but there is the Hawaiisuperferry now, so we might get on that on our next visit and go to either Kauai or Maui. Just to see what they are like.
The trips were fantastic!! Diamond Head in the movies and then to see it for real in person is a site to see!!
The rainbows are just drop dead gorgeous, while the wift of plumeria flowers send their sent along with the tradewinds while you listen to Hawaiian music!!
The Navatek 1 Sunset Buffet Dinner Cruise is fantastic!! The vessel runs soooo smooth that you can carry your plate to the table without a mishap!!
And nothing can compare as to hearing "Blue Hawaii" from the Elvis impressionist at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel!!
Need I say more???????
I love Hawaii and the people that I have had the pleasure to meet!!

Places to get Engaged?

Mike Paige

Can you name three nice places of witch I can ask my Girlfriend to marry me. She knows its coming but doesn't know when.

Answer
Congratulation! I think its so romantic when two people knows they belong together. Now you want 3 places so you can take your girlfriend and ask for her hand. I do not know what state you are in, but my number choice is the island of Oahu. Yes that is my hometown and Hawaii is the most alluring, romantic place a girl can get engage. But if money is the problem, (I know plane ticket) you can pick a beach, take her and make sure the two of you will have dinner for 2 away from people or crowds. Second place could be a dinner cruise, 2 hours of being in the water having dinner during sunset. And the 3rd will be the old fashion way if you wanted it, plan a night with her, at your place. Put together a romantic dinner for two, with lots of candles lite, soft music, maybe with wine? To add more love with that dinner you will put together, scatter red roses petals all over the floor where you will set the table for two and from there you will know what to do. Reminder please, no cell phone, no tv, only soft music..Good luck!

what is a great way to fundraise money for a non-profit youth military program?

My kids and I are involved in a Young Marine program and we are in serious need to purchase bdu uniforms, camping gear and items to be raffles at an upcomming young marine graduation, and we are in search for donation of items or money. Does anyone know where we could start and/or what we should do? Maybe even how to get Sponsor's, everyone can check the web site to show that we are lagitimate, just ask to see the website. Thanks...

Answer
I guess it varies depending on where you live. Here in Ontario my compnay does fundraising for a number of different charities.
Here are some suggestions to get you started

1. Look for sponsors that are willing to donate something that could be raffeled off. Or willing to match donations that are collected.

2. Get permission from a local chruch or school to use their facilities for a fundraiser then go to your local flea markets, advertise in the papers etc. and charge them anywhere from $25 - $150 per table to sell their products. Make sure to advertise.

3. Approach stores, banks etc. to see if they would be willing to "sell" your something marine related (picture) that the person would be asked if they would be willing to make a two doller donation and thent hey can fill their name out on the related picture to be hung in the store as an angel for the marine core or something like that.

4. Approach companies to see if on a specific day they would consider donating $.10 for every hamburger sold. etc.

5. Have a craft & bake sale.......all items to be donated (senior centres love to participate in things like this and they tend to do a lot of crafts)

6. Companies like Gillette offer things like gifts in kind that they would be willing to donate....

Big hurdle of course is that usually for things like gifts in kind you need to be a registered charity.

Good Luck Hope some of this was helpful!

can you install an outdoor pond indoors?

I would like to install an outdoor pond in my living room under a clear coffee table. Is it safe to install the pond in my home?

Answer
This sounds like an interesting project. I can see why it might be a beautiful thing, and a conversation piece, but I can also see a whole lot of problems.

To answer your question: sure, you can do this.

However, you really have to do some very serious thinking about what you're doing.

Those ponds can leak, and they can contain quite a bit of water. What would happen if a leak occured and you didn't notice it right away?

How will you empty the pond to clean it, move it, or disassemble it?

How will you deal with the water that will condense on the bottom of glass tabletop? (There will be a lot, and it will always be there.)

What are you going to put under the pond? They're designed to have sand under them.

How will you deal with insects and other household pests who end up in the pond?

How will you power the pump? Are you just going to have an extension cord running to your coffee table?

Maybe this isn't what you really want. How about a nice aquarium?

How do I stop my 6 year old foster dog from peeing inside the house?

Curious M

He isn't a puppy.

I just got him, and don't know his history (he might have been an outdoor dog).

I put him outside all the time, but he never even tries to go outside when he has to pee, he just pees on my coffee table and stuff.
EDIT: I think the key word here is 6 years, so advice tat works for a puppy might not work. I don't believe in crate training a 6 year old dog. Thanks.

Answer
When you catch him peeing on your coffee table or anywhere else in your house, tell him no loudly then immediately take him outside. If he eliminates outside reward him with a treat and tell him he is a good boy. Take him out frequently. If possible, using a dog door will help with the situation. If you have another dog, he will quickly learn to use the dog door by following the other.

Edit: The same methods that work for a puppy will work for an adult.....I worked in dog rescue for many years and was very successful in helping people work through this. I would also check and make sure that the dog doesn't have a uti.

Do not ever leave him unsupervised. Place him in a crate when you cannot watch him. It is important that you catch him every time he pees in the house. Treat him like you would a puppy.

Make sure to clean the coffee table and the floor around it with an enzymatic cleaner to eliminate the odor. If he smells urine, he will want to pee there. Good luck, be patient and consistent.

Motorcycle Riders--What are some good tips for going cross-country on a bike?

Jayne

My boyfriend and I are thinking about riding his Harley from Mass to Daytona Beach. We have never rode across states let alone down the eastern border. Just looking to find some good tips out there that I might not have thought about.
To Bill- I said states as in multiple states. We have rode together plenty of times for a couple hours on end, highways, etc, up through New Hampshire and Maine. I just meant like through mulitple states across country. I also own my own bike, but it is an 883 sportster with a small gas tank, and think it would be much better to be on the back of my bf's and take everything in without paying attention to the rode. :-) Before I learned to ride, I rode on his bike for more than ten years, so we are entirely comfortable with each other...

Answer
Byron made a very good point about packing light and washing your clothes along the way. Something else, if you find you need something unexpected like extra shirts or something, don't overlook thrift stores. Wear a couple of $3 T shirts and when you're done, toss them in the trash.

If you can ride 500 miles a day alone, better figure 350 two up. 200 miles at a time is a long stretch on a bike, even with a comfortable dresser. Two up, it feels even longer. I suggest riding 120-150 miles, gas up, stretch, pee, get a drink and so on. You will be a lot better off making a lot of short rides with short rest stops rather than long tiring rides and long rest stops trying to rest up.

Take a camera, especially something like a better point and shoot with 10-15X zoom (compact size) or what's called a bridge camera, the point and shoots that look more like a large DSLR. Many of them has 24-40X zooms. Have a couple of memory cards, take plenty of photos of everything and delete those you don't want when you get home. Take shots over your bfs shoulder while riding, if things go wrong, take photos of those times as well. My motto is whatever doesn't kill you makes for a good story later, which is true. When at rest areas, if your camera has a self timer, perch it safely on a picnic table and get a shot of both of you. If there are other photographers there, ask them to take your photo. If they are carrying a camera, especially an expensive DSLR, you have nothing to worry about asking them to handle your camera. Shady looking, drugged out characters are not ones to hand your camera to.

In case you don't already have one, get the HD road atlas because it has the locations and numbers of HD shops, which may come in handy in case of a flat tire, etc. Put sticky things like shampoo bottles inside a zip lock bag should the bottle decide to pop open in the saddlebag or backpack. Stuff a plastic trash bag somewhere just in case it is needed during rain. One of the little, cheap LED mini flashlights is good to have on hand. If the weather turns cold and you don't have a warm enough jacket, buy a newspaper and place several layers between your chest and jacket. Amazingly effective.

And most important, ride safely, don't take chances, expect delays or something to happen and when it does, remain calm and keep in mind that regardless of what happens, you will get there and you will get back. Maybe a bit late, but so what. And keep in mind, whatever doesn't kill you makes for a good story later. I've been touring all over the US for over 35 years and the trips where the weather is perfect, nothing breaks down, no cops stop you, you don't get diarrhea from road side food and no aprts fall off are soon forgotten. The trips you remember forever and revel in recounting is where you must go to the motel front desk three times for more toilet paper, a huge lady cop mistakes you for a vandal and comes within a hairsbreath of stuffing you into the back seat of her cruiser and you get caught in a rainstorm so severe that when you put your foot down at a stop sign, water runs over the top of your cowboy boot. That's just a few of the more "memorable" times I remember. Good luck.

Are we killing the bed bugs?

camping tables and chairs sets on double camping chair with cooler, double camping chair with cooler
camping tables and chairs sets image

chifladach

We recently found out that we have bed bugs, we thought they were ticks from the woods in our backyard. Anyway we bagged all material items washed what is needed for now, broke all bedrooms down, sprayed all hard surfaces(table joints, and chairs, etc.), everyday we spray baseboards, matresses, and carpet with 91% isopropyl alcohol. When I say spray, we are useing a continuous sprayer which puts out a continuous heavy stream. So we are actually saturating everything in alcohol. we have set up camp in our living room( its just nasty to sleep w/them) I need to know are we affecting them at all or just wasting time and money. By the way we cannot afford for the exterminator to do it, he said it was going to start at $600. So for you pros out there are we getting the job done?

Answer
I don't know if isopropanol will kill them unless you actually hit them with it. From what I understand, they are very hard to kill, and usually exterminators use heavy duty insecticides. Quite frankly, I would move out before I allowed those chemicals in my home. But what are you gonna do? One insecticide that is not too dangerous is boric acid. The bed bugs hide behind the baseboards and other woodwork during the day. So I would recommend getting a pry bar and removing the woodwork. Then spray in all cracks and crevises with dry boric acid. Make sure you have an applicator that will *spray* the dry powder. Then replace woodwork. You may not want to nail the woodwork because you may have to repeat. Maybe you should rip up the carpet too? They're probably hiding out in there. What's underneith? If it's hardwood floors, I would definitely rip up and dispose of properly so nobody takes it from the curb thinking they got some nice, free carpet. How do you know they are not in the rest of your house? They can come from the attic if you live in an old house that ever had bats. in which case they could be in the whole house. Or you might have brought them in from a hotel stay, or from an old piece of furniture. You kinda need to know how you got them, to try to figure out if the are throughout the house. But you should assume that they are. And are you absolutely certain that they are bed bugs? It's kinda hard to confuse ticks and bed bugs. So maybe you're confusing bed bugs with something else. You can usually take a sample to the county extension of your state university for an accurate identification.

How to be effective as a volunteer?

Rin Souma

I'm volunteering to help set up a presentation a camp is doing tomorrow. It's going to be about an hour long of set-up, including laying out tables, putting out work/writing/etc., putting out chairs and all of those kinds of things.
My mom talked to the director of the camp, and she said he implied that having me volunteer would cause problems, and was basically saying that they were not going to babysit me; I can't sit around and wait for directions, and I can't always ask them what I'm supposed to do.
I definitely understand what he's getting across here- for sure I could be an helper to them, if I know how to kind of direct myself and what not.
Could you guys tell me how to take more initiative when I'm volunteering, and give me tips on how to be helpful and what-not? Any help is appreciated~

Answer
Sowing up and then following the instructions given. Remember there are no stupid questions, just the ones not asked when in doubt.
