I work at a summer camp and we recently had unpainted picnic tables donated. My director wants to paint the tables to keep them from getting destroyed by our campers. How long should I wait before painting the tables? And what would happen if I painted the tables early?

Answer
Definitely make sure the wood is completely dry. Once it is, make sure the wood has been smoothed down (by sanding), then apply a primer, then paint. Good Luck, and Have Fun Painting them!

Can I bring my rats camping with me for 3 days?

K-9Kara

We are going camping for 3 days at a campground only 20 minutes away, I have to pet rats. My moms afriad that they will stink up the trailor but if I sat them on the picnic table under the canopy during the day and bring them in at night they should be ok. We have plenty of room in the trailor for the cage. Should we bring them or leave them at home?

Answer
If you are going camping the last thing you want to do is keep your pets outdoors, especially at night. The next morning they will not be there. My husband and I took our cat camping many times in the RV. We had his litter box, which we cleaned regularly and it never smelled in there. If you keep them caged, then bring them. But like I said, don't even leave them outside without their cage in the daytime. If other campers see rats, they will either alert the campground office or take matters into their own hands. Most people think of pets as dogs and cats...not rats.
