We are getting married on Maui in May and having a reception at home in June. It will be indoors and we have already hired a DJ and Hawaiian dancers. I am looking for decoration ideas or anything cool you have seen or can think of! Thanks a bunch :)

You can decorate with pineapples, coconuts, palm trees, and if you have kids that are attending set up a knee high volleyball (with a beach ball of course) and you could have the adults play beach blanket bingo (twister).

I would have shishkabobs, roasted pig on a spit (or represented by a spiral ham with pineapple glaze and rings on top). A great fruit salad could be pineapple chunks, marachino cherrys, kiwi and oranges.

The above mentioned pineapples can be scooped out and filled with either pineapple chunks or serve a pineapple juice cocktail with a small straw and umbrella. The coconuts can be cleaned out and serve a coconut rum drink. Use the coconut meat on the desert table. Take inflatable coolers and fill with ice and use it for soft drinks and bottled water.

If you want to make your own leis, the simple and inexpensive way would take carnations, pop the head off from the stem and use a needle and heavy duty thread to string the petals to form the lei. If you keep the carnations in the refrigerator and then take them out just before the reception they will have a chance to come alive with fragrance and last the whole reception and longer too.

The bar could be a tiki hut and your tables could have linen with grass skirting and tassels attached.

Answer
Aw! She sounds like a cutie. :]
Here are two ideas she might like ::

[ PRINCESS/ROYALTY BIRTHDAY PARTY ]
1. INVITES: The invitations can be royal scrolls, glass princess slippers, castle invitations, or knights on royal steeds. Just be sure to make them really special by using a fancy font, calligraphy, or a golden glitter ink. Be sure to give the start time, end time, date and location of the royal ball. Since they are usually hand delivered, you can roll them in a scroll and tie them with a bow or seal them with an official royal wax seal.

2. DECORATIONS: Set the mood for your party with great decorations like a balloon archway and a royal red carpet entrance. Cover the party table in pink accented with streamers, balloons and confetti. Create a throne for your princess to sit in when it's time for punch and cake. If your really ambitious you can create a castle out of some large boxes for a special play area just for the party.

3. ACTIVITIES: Sometimes the memories are even more special when guests get to take home the artwork that they've created themselves at the party. Whether they make tiaras, crowns, paintings or sugar cube castles, it will be something special that helps them remember and share their event with others. Make bracelets, build cookie castles, decorate princess hats, crowns, and wands, have a royal salon, etc!

4. GAMES: What princess party is complete without some royal games and events? Games like kiss the frog, pin the wings on the dragon, pass the poison apple, find the glass slipper or a musical princess walk, add excitement to the party and provide a time for everyone to interact.

5. FOOD: Don't forget snacks and drinks for all of your royal guests. Certainly snacks and drinks that are colored in princess pink are always top of the list. But sometimes it's best to incorporate some healthy vegetable snacks while providing a pink colored dip. Although any royal cake will do, a castle cake is popular with those who like to bake. For those who prefer a simple and less complicated treat, individual cupcakes and ice cream in individual cupcake liners can reduce the mess of serving princess treats under pressure.

[ TROPICAL LUAU BIRTHDAY PARTY ] ::
1. INVITATIONS: Luau party invitations can be a beach in bottle, airline tickets to paradise or just a beautiful luau designed card. Just be sure to make them really special by using a fancy by incorporating the tropical paradise theme. Be sure to give the start time, end time, date and location of the Hawaiian Tropical Luau.

2. DECORATIONS: Set the mood for your party with great decorations like a flower lei archway and play some fun Hawaiian hula music. Cover the party table accented with streamers, balloons and confetti. Create a beautiful luau setting for your guests when it's time for the punch and cake. If your really ambitious you can create a outdoor tiki hut just for the party.

3. ACTIVITIES: Make grass skirts, do sand art in a bottle, make flower leis, learn the hula, or make paper flowers. If you have a pool, swimming would be a great idea.

4. GAMES: Games like limbo, pin the wings on the butterfly, pineapple bowling or a goofy dress up relay, add excitement to the party and provide a time for everyone to interact.

5. FOOD: Don't forget the snacks and drinks for all of your luau guests. Snacks and drinks that are fruity and tropical looking are always top of the list. But sometimes it's fun to have a luau barbecue. The cake should have a fun, tropical theme.
