Answer
Vue de Monde Bistro - Modern French, located in the CBD on Little Collins Street. Great atmosphere and value for money, and cheaper then the restaurant.
Cafe e Cucina - Italian, fine(ish) dining. Located on Chapel Street in South Yarra. Very Italian service, great for people watching if you get a table on the sidewalk.
MoVida - Spanish/Portguese on Hosier Lane in the CBD. Tapas, with a great wine/beer list.
Soulmama - Vegetarian buffet with great views of St Kilda beach from the St Kilda Sea Baths. Jacka Boulevard.
Il Bacaro - Little Collins Street in the CBD, great Italian food.
Pearl - Modern Australia, Church Road in Richmond.
Il Solito Posto - Italian restaurant on Collins Street in the CBD. Consistently great service.

is it 'legal' to sell stuff at the beach?

j'adore tw
My friends and i would like to sell some food (drinks and other stuff) at a beach. Its in Melbourne. Are we allowed to sell like without a license? Will the cafes there get angry ('cos we're going to sell cheap)? and do you think anyone will buy our stuff?
LOL we would just like to earn some money while having fun ....
Answer
Nope. You'll have to get council permission - especially if it's food and drink. You'll have to get a food licence, licence the business and conform to a lot of rules and regulations. If the council did allow it you'll also have to pay "rent" - even cafes have to pay the council for their outside tables. If you went ahead and did it anyway, people will probably buy.... but you'll also get your ass hauled off the beach and slapped with a hefty fine. That's the best case scenario.
