beach table runner image

I am turning 19 in august and i am doing a lunch for family, then going out with friends that night. For the lunch i want it to be beach themed, not like luau or something cheap like that but like a nice "grown up" lunch with a beach-y inspiration. I tried to google ideas but i didnt have any luck. If anyone has any ideas or site suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

To go in a different direction than the luau theme....try doing a Nautical theme:
...it can be fun and somewhat sophisticated at the same time. Make your colors blue and white...accent with yellow (I like the yellow, adds more sunshine.)
Ideas for foods: shrimp cocktail, clam dip, shrimp scampi or even something as simple as fish sticks, or crab cakes or tuna on rolls.
Salads: tossed salad or cucumber, tomato and red onion salad or tomato-mozzarella bites on picks>>

any kind of cold pasta salad or a shrimp salad or mac or potato salad
Or a pasta with pesto and shrimp
Serve a Blue Ocean Punch -- Dissolve a packet of blue Jell-o in two cups of hot water. Mix in two cups each of sugar, cold water and pineapple juice. Freeze until just before use, then mix with Sprite or ginger ale for a bubbly ocean-blue treat.
Can also float tiny boats in a punch
Serve "Chips Ahoy!" cookies...:D......set out bowls of "goldfish" crackers...add some Dips and "Ships"
Dress the table with a white cloth...add a runner in navy blue...add things like seashells and sand in jars with candles. Tie a piece of rope (or heavy twine) around the lip of the jar or just keep wrapping it around several times. Scatter little confetti anchors. You can also add the color brown to the table to tie in with the ropes of nautical theme. Alternate small candle jars with small vases of different shapes filled with 3 low flowers along the table. Colored sea glass marbles (from dollar store) can also fill the candle jars. Fill with water: float a tea light candle.
Fold linen napkins into the shape of a Sailboat for your guests (you can buy inexpensive material and cut 12inch squares to make them instead of purchasing pre-made linen napkins)..here's how>>

Hang a life preserver over a doorway or entryway to party welcoming guests--find driftwood to put around, use miniature lighthouses as decoration, hang up nautical flags in different colors. If you have a place, hang white sheets to pull back to have the effect of a curtain (it resembles a sail) for more ambiance.
Send invites out in a message in a bottle filled with little bit of sand and tiny shells--write it on white or ecru paper..singe the edges...add a cork and hand deliver...address your guests as Shipmates..invite them to having "oceans of fun in the sun".
Play music like Jimmy Buffet or reggae, "Sailing", "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", etc.

I want to have a simple beach wedding, but an old hollywood theme reception. How do i make the transition?

Devan
Answer
If you set the mood by using a few touches at the wedding, the transition will be seamless. Old Hollywood is high glamor so if you start with a simple red isle runner, a beautiful arch with roses and bows to stand by for the ceremony, matching decorations on the chairs, and a glam dress with up swept hair, it will work. It is your day so celebrate it as such. This is a simple party planners trick to tie different ideas together. Also at the reception I suggest using colored sand and sea shells in small, wide vases to secure silk flowers in as part of your table scape. This would be a lovely nod to the wedding your friends and relatives just witnessed.
