wood benches for tables image
Lepke
We have some outdoor wood picnic tables that are currently unfinished and kind of grayish from being outside for years. I would like to sand them then apply a clear polyurethane finish on them. Is that what I would use? Is there a special kind that I need? I've never done this before so any help would be great! By the way, I don't know if this matters, but the tables are in the sun pretty much all day. Thanks for your help.
If I just sand it instead of powerwashing it, will it also work?
Answer
You could clean them with a high pressure sprayer and then after it dries apply a couple of coats of spar varnish on them, that is what they use on boats and would hold up the best.

What colors are best for my humble patio furniture?
Q. I am moving into a home with a cute little side, covered patio. It is rectangular with several small trees on the side. Nothing special. Just some concrete and a wood cover. I currently own some nice deep green plastic chairs and a white bench with table. What colors would you recommend spray painting them? All the same color or separate? Dark wicker planters, stone planters, and a medium stone waterfall will be coming with me as well. Thank you!
Answer
Either match the green or beige, white shows dirt so much. If they are nice and pretty now then don't spray paint them until the need to have a nice little touch up to look new again. Does the wood cover need to be treated yet? If so, a nice red cedar finish with the other stuff painted to match would look good.
