Creative place card ideas?

anonymous

It's for a tropical themed event. I need something to put on the tables so guests know where to sit/what table to sit at. Anything creative other than plain old cards?

Also, where can I buy place cards?

Answer
Floral outlets, wedding planning outlets, business supplies, party supply outlets should have place cards.

OR

Do a Napkin holder band with room for name, decorate with tropical flower.

OR

Make a variety of "tents" place holders using a program such as Print Shop. Create a Postcard that can be folded in half thus creating your tent. Hand write name on tents.

Depending on number of people, choose a variety of graphics that go with your theme. Print on heavy weight paper. Can vary colors.
Cut out, fold.

Table for four would use one set of graphics if you want to theme the tables themselves.
Beach
Sunbathing
Sandcastle
Sunset
Life guards
Light houses
Luau
Music and beach dancing
Beach volley ball
Beach chair, towel, shade
Palm trees, coconut, pineapple
Variety of sea shells
Different pictures of sea shell decorations
Sea gulls and sand pipers
Beach scenes and waves

Can place Candles in sand on/in appropriate dish.
Palm leaf place mat; straw place mats; beach mat for runner on buffet table. New kids sand toys as decor on tables.
Hula dressed Barbie type dolls. Decorated Conch shells.
Palm tree centerpiece. Sand art cake with Non-real seashell decoration. Tint icing sand color, decorate shaped cake on top of larger flat layer, garnish with footprints, sea shells, sand tops, tiny flip flops. Can have table cloths with tiny footprints walking across sand. Enlist small children for this one, beige table cloths with darker beige paint for foot prints.

Have a beach decorated CANVAS for those attending to sign in a darker sand color of course. Can be a door prize or be gifted to the person or organization in whose honor the event is being held.

I need idea on everything, center pieces, table settings, bouquets. Anything!

Answer
I am going with blue bonnets as a filler and Yellow roses for the main flowers in my bouquets!!!!!
CENTERPIECES I am using a 5" x 5" Mirror underneath a 3" high x 5" bowl with white floating candles and with clear and blue marbles/stones with a water glitter in so that the light reflects off even more.
TABLES will have 1 on each table with blue and white rose petals on both sides surrounding the floating candles and our tables will have white table clothes with a blue runner down the center.. They are great!

How to throw a kickass beach birthday party?

Martha

So, in about a month I am throwing a beach birthday party, and I really don't know what to do, since I've never thrown or been to one before... It'll be a group of 13-14 year old girls. I'd like to get this all planned as quickly as possible, because if I leave it to only a week of anticipation then some girls might already have plans.

Answer
Martha -A beach party is not difficult. A few must haves - a volley ball set up, several Frisbees, beach balls things that your guest can goof around with. Boogie boards are also a lot of fun. You can probably rent the volley ball set and boogie boards. Get the beach balls and Frisbees from a dollar store.

Of course you need music. Hopefully you have a portable CD player or ITunes play. bring spare batteries.

If there are tables available have someone get there early to claim space. Get some brightly colored vinyl table cloths - dollar store or WalMart. The top is vinyl and the bottom is felt or something like that. After the party hose them down or wash them in cold water and hang to dry. If there are no tables use several table cloths on the sand for your food and drinks. Remember that you need something to hold down the edges. Several beach umbrellas or a tent would be a good idea to shade the food area and to give your guest a place to get out of the sun. Rent those if you do not have it.

Food is an issue at a beach party because of the sand.
Do cup cakes instead of a cake. Easier to transport in a sealed container. Lots of cold drinks - sodas, sport drinks and water. If the beach has grills you can cook hamburgers and hot dogs. If not bring fried chicken. Take chips out of the bags and put them in large bowls with a snap lid. Most dips need to be kept refrigerated. Half fill a large ice chest with ice. Put your dips in sealed plastic containers and put the containers in the ice. Have large container of hand wipes so your guest can wipe the sand off of their hands before reaching in for food. Make sure you have several large garbage bags to keep trash from scattering on the beach.

Instead of e-mailing your invitations snail mail real invitations. Make your own. Lots of beachy clip art available. Remind your guest to bring sun screen, beach towels, chairs and or umbrellas and beach toys. Since you and your guest live in a beach area they probably have stuff like that.

Even on the Gulf coast the water is still chilly in March so plan on lots of shore activities. How about a sand sculpture competition? You need buckets and shovels and even sand castle kits for your guest - dollar store or Big Lots. That may even be available for rent - just make sure none of the pieces get lost.

Good luck and have a great time.

I am looking for a small portable, or roll up table to take to the beach....?

Oneida

...the legs screwed on and the table rolled up.
The table looked to be maid of bamboo or some sort of wood like this. The lady said she ordered it from a magazine but I didn't get the name of the magazine. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it!!

Answer
