Wooden picnic table repair.?

fujiwest1

I'm looking for vinyl covers for the slats of our wooden picnic table. The wood table and benches are sagging and splitting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
What I would do is replace the wood and then apply maritime epoxy or boat makers epoxy to the wood to seal it. I'm not sure what you call it exactly as I have heard it called several different things.

The bottom line is that you take two seperate portions and mix them together and apply it with a brush. Once it hardens it forms a clear plastic like layer and will keep all of the moisture and water out. This stuff is used to seal wooden boats so the wood doesn't wear out from being in the water. It is fairly expensive, around $40 a gallon so plan your job accordingly. If you've ever been to a restaurant or bar that has wooden tables with pictures and coins and crap sealed under "plastic like" stuff on the table top, this is what that is. I would recommend using this same stuff on anything wooden that you plan to keep outside year round. Call a few of your local boat dealers/repair places and I'm sure they will be able to lead you where to go for it. I'll paste a link to a PDF that helps explain what I'm talking about.

I'm looking for beautiful farm house tables that are wooden for an outdoor wedding. Also it'd be great if I could find thick sturdy benches for the ceremony seating. Any ideas?

suggestions needed to put in simple drop leaf breakfast bar?

cal_blam

I need to install a small drop leaf breakfast bar, I only have basic hand tools and electric drills, sanders etc. I am hoping to find a simple plan I can use (or adapt a plan from a bench/table). Not fussed about fancy routed joints.
I was going to drill a wooden strip into the wall with some nice stainless brackets and then attach the drop leaf to that. Then varnish to match the kitchen benchtop.
Anyone know of anywhere I could find a free plan/DIY guide to doing this?
Also are there some special drop leaf hinges that i can use on the underside that would save making special joints etc? I think I have seen something on a caravan hardware website that may be useful but don't know where to find these retail. I am in Melbourne Australia so local knowledge most appreciated. Cheers, Cal.

Answer
I don't know about a DIY plan, but IKEA sells tabletops that are made for drop leaf designs - and they are really cheap. I mean, $60, all finished cheap. They look really nice too.

What kind of end table should I get?

I have a couch that I sit in quite a bit. One side has an end table, but the other side is pretty close to the walking path through the room, so I don't have anything permanent. Usually I just move a chair over to set stuff (like a drink) on. Are there like really thin end tables that might work here? What do you recommend?

Answer
Unless you find one that is skinny enough for your space, you could always find one that is wide but with a narrow top and turn it so that the back faces your couch. Do you know what I mean?
Maybe a small bench would work too. That would also give you added storage!

What little useless details do you remember about kindergarten/day care?

thespeedye

I remember the fat crayons in their wooden boxes, yellow tables, the ugly storytime mat, the first assignments (draw a star, fold a fan), a raw Easter egg that cracked in my basket, plastic blue cups and plates, glazed donuts, and my blue vinyl schoolbag with the puppet family motif.

one day my mom got me these new pants that werent snap, you had to put them through that little slit, and then i couldnt get it open and i really had to pee so my best friend tried helping me in the bathroom but i couldnt get them off in time so i peed in my pants and i didnt get a sticker at the end of the day

my friends and i were building a sand castle and we needed water so my friend went to the drinking fountain and filled her mouth with water and spit on the sand, and the teacher found out and made her go inside early for nap time during recess

this girl cut one of her braids and started crying

comparing the size of our poops with eachother in the bathroom

throwing sand in this girls face because she called me little

always sitting next to my teacher on the school bus when we went on field trips

me and this other girl in my class having the same lunch box (our parents gave our lunch boxes to the teachers at the beginning of school) and when the teachers re-handed out our lunchboxes at lunch time she got my lunch box filled with good food and i got hers with crappy food in it

getting a thorn stuck in my thumb and feeling so proud of myself for not crying

jumping off benches trying to stomp on soda cans at lunch time
