I am looking for a man who builds and sells custom farmtables around Portland Oregon. Lost his website.Help!?

sschamp

He sold the tables and a bench for 100.00 a foot and asked for 1/2 down and 1/2 on delivery. He was not a professional company, he was a craftsman. If you have heard of Him PLEASE help me find his website again. His work is beautiful and I really would like to have him make our table. Thank you.

Outdoor furniture for balcony?

:)

I'm trying to find a couple of chairs and a side table for a small balcony. The problem I keep running into with most chairs is that when you sit in them, you are at eye level with the balcony railing, which is not ideal since the balcony faces the ocean and we would rather enjoy the view than stare at a rail.

Has anyone found chairs that are slightly higher than the standard balcony railings? I've also considered getting some that are lower to the ground, but most of those are too low to the ground and hard to get in and out of.

Thanks!

Answer
CedarStore.com will custom make just about anything from Red Cedar and Treated Pine. I would recommend that you look at their chairs/benches and tables.

I was having the same issue about the height not finding anything I really liked. They are currently custom-making a bench and table set (for me) at a higher height than what they offer on their site.

Take a look at their site and then give them a call - I am sure you will be pleased with them. I am!

Wanting to know more about a strange bench mounted Skil saw? Is it custom made, or a jig, or something alien?

a.herrig

I was at an auction recently where I came across a strange Skil saw that I had never seen before. I would like to think I know a little more about power tools than most, however this one has me puzzled. I have never seen anything like it. It appeared to be a standard style Skil brand hand held circular saw. The strange part was the "mount." It was a piece of angle iron, oriented perpendicular to the blade, about 2 feet wide or so with holes drilled so that it could mount to a work surface via bolts/screws. From the angle iron a piece of square tubing (1 1/2" maybe) extended straight back about a foot where it was joined by a pivoting pin to another piece of the same square tubing of similar length and size. That piece extended forward to mount to the saw itself. Also, the shoe (or base plate) of the saw had been removed or was never a part of the saw if it was manufactured with the mount. The "arm" formed by the square tubing appeared to make it possible to pull the saw towards the user to crosscut, similar to a radial arm saws motion. Also, the blade on this particular saw was a standard 7" diamond smooth rim tile cutting blade. It did not look homemade, but that doesn't mean it wasn't. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to know more about it. Google searches turned up nothing for me. I didn't think to get any model numbers while I was there. Thanks for your input!

Answer
===== what you saw was a specialty saw that was hand crafted for repetitive work == table mounted saw photos at this site could give you some ideas to mount your ""skil"" or circular saw [[[[ ====http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=ytff-tyc&va=table+mounted+circular+saws ======== you may find this helpful .....

How can i make money from garage projects?

InvdrZim

i literally have every tool:

welder
drill press
router
bench grinder
lathe
band saw
table saw
etc...and far more!

Answer
Your garage sounds like mine.

My biggest problem is how to turn down work, as I am far busier than I would like to be, and everyone wants me to make things for them.

Try making some things for yourself, or for friends. Nice cabinets, small furniture, or a sign for your shop. Once you have a few things made, assuming the quality is great, get some good photos and start spreading the word. Pretty soon, people will say "OH! I know a guy who needs a custom desk for his new business." or "My brother is opening a new store and needs a sign and some shelves."

Pretty soon, word gets out that you are the guy with all the tools, and you make awesome stuff, and you will be in my shoes.

Good luck!

thankyou so much for your help! i love those things heaps and i really want to get one.

Answer
They are called vanities, and they have several small drawers, a large mirror, and a small bench or chair. A woman would sit there when she brushed her hair, put on makeup or powder, changing clothes, and so on.

You could find them at antique stores. I don't know if anyone makes them anymore that are of the quality and style of the antique ones.

The modern version is just a large bathroom sink area. Vanities can be somewhat custom made by any cabinetry makers, but they aren't as elegant as the antiques.

Where can I buy sustainable wood lumber for restoration renovation, I do custom woodworking in PA, NJ area?
I am looking for old growth lumber, high quality timber, virgin wood reclaimed wood. I am in the Philadelphia manayunk area wood building trades. I do wood working, a number of projects right now are unique pieces, i am trying to stay with using old character antique lumber. My passion is for beautifully aged beams timber with outstanding patina and rich colors. Anywhere in Southeast Pa or NJ will do? I only use antique reclaimed beams from locally knocked down buildings. I like the raw wood beautiful timbers and handcraft it into wood furniture and custom woodworking.
