The town of Marble Falls is located on Lake Marble Falls, is only 5 minutes from Lake LBJ. Marble Falls is only about 45 miles from Austin. Many residents work in Austin and commute to work from Marble Falls. San Antonio is only 85 miles to the south for additional shopping and sight seeing. It is a pleasant, scenic drive straight down Highway 281.

Waterfront Restaurants

Before the dam was built to form Lake Marble Falls on the Colorado River, there were falls of marble giving the name Marble Falls to the city. The falls are now under water and only visible on those rare occasions when LCRA lowers the lake for repairs.

A fast growing town of 5,000, over 10,000 population in a 7 mile radius, Marble Falls is going through a period of prosperity and growth. Because of the growth, there are not as many homes available for sale or rent in town right now. Marble Falls is in a stage of development now that offers some of the best of the big city life without the disadvantages of the fast pace and traffic problems of Austin or San Antonio. It is an interesting mixture of a rural lifestyle with big city conveniences only 45 minutes away.

Marble Falls has two very nice parks. One is on the creek and the other is on the shore of Lake Marble Falls.

Both parks are large enough for reunions, events, or just having a lot of fun with friends and family.






Lakeside Park is the perfect place for a picnic while watching the boating activity on the lake and enjoying the gentle lake breezes. Want to do a little swimming in the lake. Here is the perfect place to do it.



Marble Falls Lakeside Park also has a great swimming pool, and tennis and basketball courts. There is also a pavillion for events, a boat launch, covered picnic tables and plenty of room for spreading out on the lawn and enjoying the lake.

Marble Falls is the "Hub" of the upper Highland Lakes area when it comes to shopping. I was in JROTC in HS- It stands for Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. Its also known as Leadership Education. You learn all kinds of things that are not only military basics (uniforms, marching, color guard, shooting, history)- but great things everyone should know in life no matter who they are (table etiquite, camping, survival training, speech giving and tons more) THERE IS NO MILITARY OBLIGATION AT ALL. Although if you do decide to join up either before or after college, you can earn rank (which means more pay) if you're in for at least 2 years. It is usually more often than not as close as anyone gets to being in the military. My class was sponsored by the Marine Corps. The class is pretty much as hard as you want it to be. I participated in everything I could which meant I got to go on field trips and rose in rank. If you want to earn awards for physical fitness then you gotta be able to run, do push ups and pull ups or the flexed arm hang. I couldnt do the PE part of it for the first two and a half years- i just sucked- but i got my A for participating. If you want to learn more about it at your school in particular- contact your school counsilor about it. If you want you can add me to YIM @ angelic_devil32499@yahoo.com....every school is different- but I'll be more than glad to help if I can-and if its a Marine Corps or Army school I be able to help even more- I was in both branches as active duty- Congrats on joining the Corps of Cadets and good luck!

additonal answers to the new questions; if you just change into your PT (physical training) uniform and TRY you will still get your A....as for yelling....theres two types of "yelling" The general announcing of commands or orders and then real yelling- but you have to be really really bad (behavior wise)
It does depend on your Instructors and commanding cadets on how much and intensity of yelling goes on. Just remember- if you are yelled at - it's nothing personal! I was in command alot and the only time i would yell like in the movies- is if either A it was all in fun or B i was really pushed to my breaking point. Just dont try to be your class clown or anything like that and you'll be just fine!

I highly recommend it over PE- you will have so much more fun and experience so much more.

Just remember- Its high school- so relax and have fun!!!!

a. Good citizenship and patriotism.
b. Self-reliance, self-confidence, self-discipline, leadership, and responsiveness
to constituted authority.
c. Ability to communicate well.
d. Appreciation for the importance of physical fitness.
e. Appreciation for the roles of the Armed Services in support of National
Objectives.
f. Knowledge of basic military organization subjects.
Q: Is there any Military commitment by taking JROTC?
A: NO!
Neither the purpose or the objectives mentioned above pose any commitment to the armed forces.
(If however, a student does choose to join any branch of the armed forces later, the time he/she
spent in JROTC will be of great benefit both practically, and financially.
Q: What will a cadet encounter and do in his/her first year?

A: The curriculum for the first year in JROTC includes:
a. Leadership, drill and development which makes up 25% of the grade.
b. Academic subjects will make up 25% of the grade (grades on quizzes and
exams). Subjects include:
1. Introduction to US Military Services (Customs, Courtesies, and Traditions)
and the study of Department of Defense and National Security
Organization.
2. Instruction and participation in Basic Drill, the Manual of Arms and how to
conduct parades and inspections.
3. Weapons safety and marksmanship. All students will be taught how to Safely handle and fire a .177mm match air rifle.
4. Proper wear of the Marine Corps uniform. Uniform is worn 1 day a week and 25% of the grade is relevant to wear and maintenance of uniform.
5. Military history and citizenship (U.S.) classes
6. Map-reading, public speaking, class presentations,problem solving, and personal hygiene.
Q: Can a cadet play sports and still be in JROTC?
A: YES!
In fact, special recognition is given to JROTC cadets who participate in Varsity and Junior Varsity sports.
Q: How often do cadets wear the Marine Corps Uniform?
A: Once every week. The purpose of wearing the uniform is to teach the cadet how to properly care for it as well as focus on the details of putting all of the parts of the uniform in the proper place... neatly and shined.Q: If a cadet takes JROTC in 9th grade, are they required to take it every year they attend school?
A: NO! There is no requirement to take more than one semester at a time, however, 2-4 years of JROTC will mean extra pay and higher rank should the cadet decide to enter the service at a later date. It is also a factor in competition for ROTC scholarships and Service Academy appointments at the college level.
Q: Are there any financial obligations when a cadet joins?A: NO! Except for the dry cleaning of the uniform-- all uniform issue and accessories are free of charge and will be on temporary loan to the cadet for as long as they are enrolled in the JROTC program. Orientation trips to military installations are paid for by the Marine Corps (includes transportation, food, and lodging).
Q: Are there any physical requirements in JROTC?

Q: What are the benefits of taking JROTC?

The JROTC program gives classes in Leadership, Ethical Standards, Goal Setting, Public Speaking, Substance Abuse, Stress Management, Close Order Drill, Marksmanship, Military History, Rank Structure, just to name a few. If a cadet chooses to enroll in the Armed Forces or Senior ROTC they will receive advanced placement and/or additional pay while in the service. Above all, is the sure knowledge that everything taught in JROTC will stay with a student for a long while-- providing them greater ability to deal with everyday problems encountered in everyday life.
