Camping at Gebhard Woods State Park, IL?

Fenerli

Has anyone been camping at Gebhard Woods State Park? We're planning on going there -- Please keep in mind that I'm not that big of a camping person...thanks for the info

Answer
Camping

Primitive tent camping only: gear must be walked (1/3 mile) to campsite, no vehicular access. Fire rings, picnic tables, and grills are located in the camping area. A drinking fountain and pit toilets are located within a short distance from the camping area. A camping permit must be obtained from the information center which is open daily 10am - 4pm.

They also have fishing, boating, hiking trails, bird watching, and more: http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/Landmgt/PARKS/I&M/EAST/GEBHARD/PARK.HTM

Where's a good place to get reasonably priced outdoor camping gear?

camping gear tables on Gelert Backpacker Table Aluminium Camping Equipment - review, compare ...

jjrobison

I recently was at REI and noticed how expensive everything was. Just wondering where I can get cheap camping gear (stoves, tents, rain jackets, hiking boots etc.) Thanks.

Answer
I order from Campmor a lot for specialty gear. There are a lot of things that you don't need specialty gear though, so that is a way to save some money and keep from becoming a slave to the gear.

You don't need camping cookware or table service for example. You can get a melamine plate from Target or dollar store to eat on, or use a pie pan. You can use a grease keeper to cook in...etc. You also don't need specialty clothing for camping or travelling. Often just your grubbies will do nicely, or any type of high performing wick wear to keep you comfortable, especially good wicking underwear but not necessarily underwear from a camping place. Right?

The thing about REI and it is notable...is that it is a membership store. The membership entitles you to special invitation to scratch and dent sales, and other exclusive deals at their place. PLUS everything you buy there has an unconditional exchange policy. You don't like it? Take it back. Doesn't matter why. With that in mind, you can feel confident about your purchases and experiment with different items until you have the right set up for your needs.

How Do I Do This Problem For Math?

Mahera

So heres the question -> A camping-supply rents camping gear for $25 per person. Make a table of the total rental charges for 0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50 campers. Okay so what does this mean? How am I suppose to make the table?

Answer
You are creating a multiplication table specifically for the purpose of making it easier to calculate how much the rental fees would be.
If it were truly needed, I would have created the table with 1,2,3,4,5,10,15,20,25,30. . .
Then for any number up to 55 I just need to add two numbers i.e. for 32 campers I would add the number in the 30 row and the 2 row.

Row or column would seem to be your choice:

0 - 0
5 - 125
.
.
.

Good luck

what is a great way to fundraise money for a non-profit youth military program?

My kids and I are involved in a Young Marine program and we are in serious need to purchase bdu uniforms, camping gear and items to be raffles at an upcomming young marine graduation, and we are in search for donation of items or money. Does anyone know where we could start and/or what we should do? Maybe even how to get Sponsor's, everyone can check the web site to show that we are lagitimate, just ask to see the website. Thanks...

Answer
I guess it varies depending on where you live. Here in Ontario my compnay does fundraising for a number of different charities.
Here are some suggestions to get you started

1. Look for sponsors that are willing to donate something that could be raffeled off. Or willing to match donations that are collected.

2. Get permission from a local chruch or school to use their facilities for a fundraiser then go to your local flea markets, advertise in the papers etc. and charge them anywhere from $25 - $150 per table to sell their products. Make sure to advertise.

3. Approach stores, banks etc. to see if they would be willing to "sell" your something marine related (picture) that the person would be asked if they would be willing to make a two doller donation and thent hey can fill their name out on the related picture to be hung in the store as an angel for the marine core or something like that.

4. Approach companies to see if on a specific day they would consider donating $.10 for every hamburger sold. etc.

5. Have a craft & bake sale.......all items to be donated (senior centres love to participate in things like this and they tend to do a lot of crafts)

6. Companies like Gillette offer things like gifts in kind that they would be willing to donate....

Big hurdle of course is that usually for things like gifts in kind you need to be a registered charity.

Good Luck Hope some of this was helpful!

How much would you guess a 3 horse steel living quarters trailer weighs?

Destiny

A solid steel, 3 horse trailer with living quarters. BIG trailer, probably 30ft long. Horse area around 7x7 or maybe a little bigger.

If any of you have steel trailers and could make a weight guess, I just want to get a ballpark idea.

How much would it weigh empty? How much would you say it would weigh with three horses, loaded water tanks, and camping gear?

Answer
Did a brief google, and found 3 which look like aluminum:

10,400 pounds: http://sandwfeeds.com/gooseneck-horse-trailers/lq-horse-trailer-for-sale-43567.html

http://sandwfeeds.com/2-horse-trailers/2-horse-exiss-lq-trailer-for-sale-43685.html

14,000 pounds: http://sandwfeeds.com/3-horse-trailers/3-horse-lq-trailer-for-sale-44304.html

An all steel model will be substantially heavier. Even these trailers are too heavy to be pulled by a pickup truck, and would need a special truck for hauling. Even a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup cannot safely haul these weights.

You would also have to add weight for:

3 people (500 pounds)
3 horses (3,000 pounds)
gear/water/etc. (1,000 pounds)

That would be my rough guesstimate.

Edit: Found another interesting website

http://www.nyshc.org/currentissues/CDL%20Requirements%20for%20Horse%20Trailers.pdf

that says:

"TABLE OF GVW AND TRAILER WEIGHT COMBINATIONS
TOW VEHICLE AND TRAILER COMBINATIONS
GVWRâS FOR PICKUPS (CHEVY USED FOR ILLUSTRATION)
1500 SERIES (Known as ½ ton) 7000 lbs
2500 SERIES (Known as 3/4 ton) 8600 lbs
3500 SERIES (Known as 1 ton) 11,400 lbs

TRAILER WEIGHTS

The weights shown here are from Double D Trailers in North Carolina. I use them because the trailer they make is made of steel and are heavyweight trailers.

I also have used the tack room style or living quarters style because they are the heaviest. If someone is using a pure stock trailer, it will be lighter in weight.

2 Horse Trailer with Tack Room 4400 lbs
3 Horse Trailer with Tack Room 5100 lbs
4 Horse Trailer with Tack Room 5500 lbs
3 Horse Trailer with Living Quarters * 11,500 lbs

*This is a monster, fully equipped.

Combination weights

Normal situation.
2500 Pickup plus 3 horse trailer plus 3 horses
8600 + 5100 + 3300 = 17,000 lbs

Extreme Case
3500 Pickup plus 3 horse with LQ plus 3 horses
11,400 + 11,500 + 3300 = 26,200"

This is from the New York Farm Board, which should be a good source.
