How do I start doing push ups? (PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING)?

Q. I'm really out of shape, but I want to get back into shape and lose weight this summer.
Only thing is, I can't do a push up to save my life.
I've tried and tried, but I barely get a inch off the ground before my arms fold under me like wet noodles.
How can I actually start doing push ups? And how can I improve my form and technique?
Any tips would be helpful :)

Answer
Many many ways to start a pushup.

You can do an inclined pushups, i.e. do a pushup on a bench while your feet are on the floor.
Or you can do it on the wall... no joke :P just build your arms a bit.

Then you can move on to knee pushups, knees down, feet crossed and do pushups.

Be sure to keep a proper form. Quality>Quantity
Back straight, no dipping of the lower back.
Go down till your chest nearly touches the ground/whatever you're pushing against.
Then push back up (NOT ALL THE WAY) and go back down.

Be sure to breathe!
Exhale when pushing, inhale when going down is the general rule, but if you're doing pushups slow then just breathe naturally as you would.

Good luuuuuuuck. :)
BTW I recommend the site 100-pushups (google it)
It gives you a table and all other things necessary to get to the 100 pushup goal

Looking for Opinions on Good Family Vehicles?

Q. I currently own a Dodge Avenger, but with two children, space is a little too tight. If anyone out there with 2 or more children can throw in their opinions on good vehicles, I'd appreciate it. I am active duty military, so affordability is also a very relative factor.

I am looking at Dodge, Ford, Chevy, or Jeep vehicles, so the ever so reliable Toyotas are out of the picture.

I need step by step directions on how to make a bench cushion for my kitchen table.?

Q. I bought an Ikea kitchen bench and I would like to make a cushion for it. I have a vague idea how to do it - and the supplies I'll need, but I think I should have some step by step instructions just in case.

Is it as simple as plywood, spray adhesive, foam, and fabric??

Answer
You seem to be on the right track. You did not say if the top if the bench is finished. I am assuming that it is not.

You can adhere the foam to the plywood, but it is not necessary as the fabric will hold the foam into place.

1. Place fabric face down on a clean surface.
2. Place a layer of polyester batting down on the fabric.
3. Place foam cushion top of the batting.
4. Place the plywood over the foam.
5. Smooth the batting over the foam and plywood. Staple one side of the batting, Mitre the corners of the foam so that it is not bulky. (You may need to trim some of the batting. Staple the opposite side, then finish the remaining sides.
6. I like to sew the corners of the fabric for a finished edge, but you can carefully fold the corners of the fabric, (like a gift) and staple the fabric in the same manner as the batting.

You can then screw the bench to the bottom of the plywood.

YOU ARE DONE!

If the cushion in loose, the easiest way to do this is to sew the fabric on three sides and 1/3 of the way on each end of the remaining side. (Making a pillow case type cover.) Then turn the cover inside out. Take each corner and form a triangle from the flattened sides of the corners. Sew a seam on each corner the depth of the cushion. This gives a nice finished look. Turn inside - out. Then stuff cover with pillow and then hand sew the remaining portion of the seam.

What is the best digital piano or keyboard for me?

B-)AM

I just found out I have been accepted to boarding school, and I would like to continue to play piano (I have been playing for about eight years). I need a keyboard or digital piano that will fit well in a dorm room. It needs to have pedals, weighted keys, authentic sound and be under $1000. What type would be the best? (It doesn't have to have a lot of fancy features, just do what a normal piano can do)

Answer
If you give up the weighted key option, and go for synth action, then take a look at the M-Audio 88. My husband has a gorgeous Steinway downstairs, but for the classical music weddings and other such gigs we play (certainly not concerts! Those have to be a really fine grand!) then we take this. It has two pedals (sustain and sostenuto!), weighs 17 pounds, and has decent piano sounds - not all the outer-space stuff you do not need. You can listen with headphones, or run it thru an amp. Please get a good stand - one with four good legs, not an X stand. Musicians Friend has one for around $85 that folds to a letter L, but opens into two Ys connected with a bar - very stable, and you can even put a shett of wood on it to make a table for extra guests. I bought one for my school - adjustable in almost every parameter, can hold a big mixer, etc. Aldo get an adjustable bench - you can get a 4-leg crankup (artist) bench for less than $100 - same place. Again, beats the X-leg bench. If you do not like the pedal that comes with it ( small, square, if I remember - we have a tons of extra things here) then get traditionally-shaped pedals. Place a conventional GOOD folding music stand in front, and get good lighting that clips on. You will be all set!

We own 5 electric keyboards and a fine Steinway squaretail A - and of course they cannot be compared - but for what they are,a decent electric keyboard beats a crappy acoustic piano.
