What kind of fabric do you use as table cloths for a wedding reception?

marina

My wedding is in July of '08. We are having a beach themed wedding and our reception is going to be outside in a large white tent. I need to know what kind of fabric to use as the table cloths. I'm planning on having them aqua/turquoise and lime and purchasing the fabric from joann fabrics. I might have them white with a lime or turquoise runner down the middle. Any help is appreciated.

Answer
A crepe fabric, or a crepe-backed satin fabric would look very nice. The satin is shiny though, so if food is spilled, or drinks, it will show different coloration on the spots until it's washed later.
Crepe is actually a weave of fabric, but it comes in pretty much every color.

Creative place card ideas?

anonymous

It's for a tropical themed event. I need something to put on the tables so guests know where to sit/what table to sit at. Anything creative other than plain old cards?

Also, where can I buy place cards?

Answer
Floral outlets, wedding planning outlets, business supplies, party supply outlets should have place cards.

OR

Do a Napkin holder band with room for name, decorate with tropical flower.

OR

Make a variety of "tents" place holders using a program such as Print Shop. Create a Postcard that can be folded in half thus creating your tent. Hand write name on tents.

Depending on number of people, choose a variety of graphics that go with your theme. Print on heavy weight paper. Can vary colors.
Cut out, fold.

Table for four would use one set of graphics if you want to theme the tables themselves.
Beach
Sunbathing
Sandcastle
Sunset
Life guards
Light houses
Luau
Music and beach dancing
Beach volley ball
Beach chair, towel, shade
Palm trees, coconut, pineapple
Variety of sea shells
Different pictures of sea shell decorations
Sea gulls and sand pipers
Beach scenes and waves

Can place Candles in sand on/in appropriate dish.
Palm leaf place mat; straw place mats; beach mat for runner on buffet table. New kids sand toys as decor on tables.
Hula dressed Barbie type dolls. Decorated Conch shells.
Palm tree centerpiece. Sand art cake with Non-real seashell decoration. Tint icing sand color, decorate shaped cake on top of larger flat layer, garnish with footprints, sea shells, sand tops, tiny flip flops. Can have table cloths with tiny footprints walking across sand. Enlist small children for this one, beige table cloths with darker beige paint for foot prints.

Have a beach decorated CANVAS for those attending to sign in a darker sand color of course. Can be a door prize or be gifted to the person or organization in whose honor the event is being held.

Looking for help putting together a waterfall theme wedding?

Hey all, so my fiancée proposed to me at our favorite spot, a waterfall. So in light of that we have decided to do a waterfall theme wedding with blue silver and white. (The blue is the blue in a peacock feather) Now I am finding a lot in beach, but no thank you. I want waterfall. And I am planning on DIYing my wedding so that's not a problem. Would just like any tips, or site suggestions, you could give. Thank you so much!!

Answer
The best solution would be to have a wedding at a waterfall. If that isn't a possibility, you might add specific touches that are keeping with the theme. That sounds like what you want. But you may have to get creative on this, which you've probably discovered. (Like you said, for a beach theme, you can always bring in sand and sea shells, but you can't actually carry a waterfall.)

Turn your venue into a art piece that is reminiscent of a waterfall. Plenty of greenery and stones might help with the setting. Maybe a table-top waterfall fountain on the guest book table or at the entrance to help set the stage for the theme. http://www.shopping.com/Alpine-Alpine-WIN218-Tabletop-Waterfall-Fountain/prices

cascading blue flowers in your arrangements

Reception: White table clothes with a blue table runner that is curved a bit and allowed to hang off the tables on both sides. (Wish I could draw a picture of this.)

Bride's cake is white with a blue cascade of flowers down one side. http://amandascakes.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/aj117.jpg
or this golf themed cake without the golf http://media.cakecentral.com/gallery/631023/1286721830.jpg

or you could even do in white, but with a touch of waterfall http://palermobakery.com/wp-content/uploads/Pwc-10016a.jpg (elegant, but the waterfall theme is still very much there)

http://www.aboutwedding.tk/wp-content/plugins/wpcontent/images/468bb_wedding_cakes_with_waterfalls_3868510575_e852c55a1b.jpg

If any of these cakes are workable, then go from there with your decor. For example, if you use the cake with the white waterfall, you can use white table runners that are curved on top of the tables and allowed to fall off the sides of the white table cloth.

It wouldn't SCREAM waterfall, but the effect could be stunning.

napkins match the table runners, if possible
exotic flowers

sounds like fun.....enjoy planning

Autumn decoration suggestions?

Over the past year, we've decorated our apartment pretty beach-themed. Now that it's autumn (my favorite time of year), I'd like to add some autumn-y decorations, without horribly clashing with the bright blues and greens and artwork that's pictures of the beach and palm trees. I have a ton of decorations (little stuffed pumpkins, table cloths in oranges reds and yellows, leaf table runners ect...) Any suggestions on how to add those decorations in would be much appriciated!

The colors blend very well!

Use the colors in candles, throws and decorations

Brown rocks can be thrown in with a little orange pumpkin and tie an orange or auburn ribbon around a blue or white candle.

the artwork unfortunately will have to stay, but to avert eyes off of it, put a small table on the wall underneath if if you can, and make it an autum focal point with pumpkind, leaves and candles on a nice opaque plate

Add shimmer to help blend in the pillows and ribbons by using golden, orange or silver toned ribbon or pillows.

Incorporate natural wood and rustic textures to give a beachy feel as well, use a dark wooden bowl or plate to place your pumpkins, seashells and candles on.

Make a beach themed wreath using starfish, seagrass and fall colored leaves and acorns

fill an old seashell with orange spice scented candle wax

I am going with blue bonnets as a filler and Yellow roses for the main flowers in my bouquets!!!!!
CENTERPIECES I am using a 5" x 5" Mirror underneath a 3" high x 5" bowl with white floating candles and with clear and blue marbles/stones with a water glitter in so that the light reflects off even more.
TABLES will have 1 on each table with blue and white rose petals on both sides surrounding the floating candles and our tables will have white table clothes with a blue runner down the center.. They are great!

would this be mismatched?

Forever Mi

i'm incorrporating lime green into the bouquets for something fun and random

would it be messy looking or mismatched if I used lime green plates during the reception?
The table cloths will be aqua and instead of using aqua or white plates would lime green work?

Its a casual summer/beach themed reception with non alcoholic drinks like pina colodas, margaritas, etc., with fruit and veggie trays.

would the lime green be taking it to far or would it look good?
I think it might work, but i'm not sure.

Answer
Since I suggested it, I think it would be a bit much, have say white plates or a pale yellow with lime napkins. Or a white table runner with lime green votives and lime, aqua and white iridescent table scatter or gems. This site has lots of good beachy stuff, plus other, http://www.save-on-crafts.com. Also, a cute idea would be to buy small starfish and hot glue onto a regular, simple napkin ring. Aqua tcloths, lime plates, then what would color of napkins be? Hmmm, think this would be a bit much. Very beachy, but too much. I can't remember what your other colors were. But, lime in small doses is best.
