Hey! My fella and I have been planning to marry in a year or so...but we have decided to move it along!! I am just looking for some pretty chill, small ideas for a wedding with friends & family (no more than 20 guests).... any ideas? i do live near the beach...

Answer
When you keep the guest list to a minimum, you can really make it special by paying attention to detail.
*Guest Bags - display them at the reception for your guests. Since you are near the beach, you could monogrammed beach towels, disposable cameras, water bottles, sunscreen (even a beach umbrella) for next day fun.
Or do a "romance" theme. Include bathrobes, champagne, scented candle, and cd of love songs. Very sweet.
You can also pay special attention to name cards and table decor since there won't be many. Make the name cards yourself and embellish them w/ a seastar or seashell. You table linens can also be extra nice since there are fewer of them.
Don't forget the bathrooms. Be sure to have candles in there and maybe a floral arrangement. Specialty soap and lotion also make it nice.
Just remember that everyone remembers the little things you do to make it special. Have fun!

Answer
Hip Hop Theme
For those who love to dance, a hip hop theme will make a memorable party. Invitations that resemble backstage passes are simple to create with a computer and a photo program. First create a rectangle that is 4 inches by 7 inches, and fill it in with any color that will complement the party color scheme. Then, add a square picture of the guest of honor to the top of it. Type in the important party information below the picture, and be sure to tell guests to dress in their best hip hop clothes. Baggy shirts, baggy pants and tennis shoes will make a great outfit for a hip hop themed party. On the side of the invitation, create a strip that runs lengthwise from top to bottom and fill it in with the color black. On that strip type the words "Backstage Pass," and turn the words sideways to make sure it fits. Using white lines in different widths, create a bar code and place it at the top of the black strip to make the invitation look more authentic. Invitations can be delivered in a lanyard, so guests can wear their backstage passes around their necks. As guests arrive give them sunglasses, fake gold chains and fake gold rings to wear throughout the night as party favors.

Decorating for a hip hop themed party is simple. Hang large posters featuring various hip hop artists on the walls. Cardboard cut outs of stars also can be used to add to the ambiance. Hip hop has gone through many transformations over the years, and includes things like graffiti and break dancing. Incorporating various parts of hip hop into the decor will not only complement the theme, but provide additional entertainment for the party guests as well. On one wall, hang large sheets of butcher paper and have cups filled with Sharpie markers in various colors. Allow guests to use these markers to create their own graffiti throughout the night. Hip hop stars like elegance, so the decor should resemble a party stars would attend. Use strands of white Christmas lights as the main source of lighting, and consider having a disco ball hanging over the dance area. Purchase white balloons, streamers and table linens to decorate the area. Serve food in bowls that look like crystal, and allow guests to drink beverages from champagne glasses. If the budget allows, have an open bar for guests who choose to drink alcoholic beverages. For additional table decorations, scatter fake diamonds on the table top along with candles on crystal candle sticks.

Hire a DJ or have a friend or family member control the music for the evening. In addition to popular club music, include hits from the past. Guests will enjoy hearing songs from artists like Michael Jackson, Bel Biv Devoe and TLC. For added entertainment, hire a professional to teach guests various break dancing moves or hold a dance competition and allow guests to challenge each other to see who has the best moves.

80's Theme
An 80's theme is not only an easy theme to create, but it is one guests are sure to enjoy. In addition to the important party information on the invitations, be sure to tell guests to dress in their best 80's costumes. Women can wear skirts with leggings under them and belly shirts. Men can wear jean jackets and a concert T-shirts. For party favors, give guests glow necklaces and fluorescent hats as they arrive at the party.

Decorations should complement the decade as well. Balloons, streamers and table linens in fluorescent pink, yellow and green will instantly give the room an 80's look. Black lights will help set off the fluorescent colors. In addition to the party favors given at the door, set bowls of jelly bracelets, slap bracelets and glow sticks around the room. Not only will it add to the decor, but the guests will have fun playing with them as well. Hang posters of popular stars from the 80's around the room, and have a TV set up to play old music videos with the sound muted. A fog machine will add a great special effect to the dance area as well. For entertainment, play various songs from the 80's and let guests dance the night away.

Toga Party
A toga party is a fun theme for a 23rd birthday bash. Send invitations telling guests a toga is required. Guests can purchase togas from a costume store or they can easily make one out of a sheet. Keep extra sheets on hand in case guests arrive who are not in proper toga attire. Keep decorations to a minimum, with streamers, balloons and table linens in coordinating colors. A TV can be set up to play the movie Animal House in the background to get guests in the mood for a wild party. Keep food to a minimum as well; in fact, simply serving chips and dip is fine. Alcohol, preferably kegs of beer, is the main focus of a toga party and should be randomly placed throughout the party area. To entertain guests, make sure there is a large dance area, and turn the music up so the guests can enjoy the night.

Can anyone help with our wedding theme?

beach theme table linens on beach weddings, beach wedding ideas, outdoor beach wedding ideas

We are planning to have our wedding on the beach, or outside in general. But we don't want a beach themed wedding. We have been trying to find ideas where we can use top hats and canes, with a gothic feel. We were thinking maybe victorian or 1920s. Any theme idea would help. Our wedding colors are black, red, purple, sliver if that helps anyone.

Answer
I would do a Victorian themed garden wedding at an old Victorian manor house, castle, or inn. This would more fit top hats and canes than a wedding at the beach.

Want to add some true authenticity to your Victorian wedding? Have the celebrations in the morning - before 1880, couples were required by law to hold their nuptuals before noon.

Everything about the Victorian wedding is lush with elegance. Black, white, and silver will work very well, and maybe red roses all over.

For a mental image, think of those beautiful pictures that are all black and white, often showing a little boy pecking a little girl on the cheek, with flowers behind his back. The clothing is very formal, lots of lace, top hats and gloves.

Victorian Wedding Flower Selections:

Brides were very careful in choosing their flowers for their weddings. They chose flowers with specific meanings. Some of the popular flowers were: roses (check meanings for each color), lilies, gardenias, stephanotis sprigs, pansies, hyacinths, baby's breath and orange blossoms. Bouquets were small nosegays (tussie mussies), which are small, plump bouquets of flowers.

Table Decor and Centerpieces

Set up tables so they are cozy and personal, no more than 6 people per table (use round tables).

Use linen napkins with decorated wooden napkin holders at each setting.

Fill a galvanized watering can with fresh summer flowers as a centerpiece.

Scatter rose petals around table.

ideas for beach themed 19th birthday party?

Kaitlyn Gr

I am turning 19 in august and i am doing a lunch for family, then going out with friends that night. For the lunch i want it to be beach themed, not like luau or something cheap like that but like a nice "grown up" lunch with a beach-y inspiration. I tried to google ideas but i didnt have any luck. If anyone has any ideas or site suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
To go in a different direction than the luau theme....try doing a Nautical theme:

...it can be fun and somewhat sophisticated at the same time. Make your colors blue and white...accent with yellow (I like the yellow, adds more sunshine.)

Ideas for foods: shrimp cocktail, clam dip, shrimp scampi or even something as simple as fish sticks, or crab cakes or tuna on rolls.

Salads: tossed salad or cucumber, tomato and red onion salad or tomato-mozzarella bites on picks>>
http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/tomato-andâ¦

any kind of cold pasta salad or a shrimp salad or mac or potato salad
Or a pasta with pesto and shrimp

Serve a Blue Ocean Punch -- Dissolve a packet of blue Jell-o in two cups of hot water. Mix in two cups each of sugar, cold water and pineapple juice. Freeze until just before use, then mix with Sprite or ginger ale for a bubbly ocean-blue treat.

Can also float tiny boats in a punch
Serve "Chips Ahoy!" cookies...:D......set out bowls of "goldfish" crackers...add some Dips and "Ships"

Dress the table with a white cloth...add a runner in navy blue...add things like seashells and sand in jars with candles. Tie a piece of rope (or heavy twine) around the lip of the jar or just keep wrapping it around several times. Scatter little confetti anchors. You can also add the color brown to the table to tie in with the ropes of nautical theme. Alternate small candle jars with small vases of different shapes filled with 3 low flowers along the table. Colored sea glass marbles (from dollar store) can also fill the candle jars. Fill with water: float a tea light candle.

Fold linen napkins into the shape of a Sailboat for your guests (you can buy inexpensive material and cut 12inch squares to make them instead of purchasing pre-made linen napkins)..here's how>>
http://www.foldnapkins.com/fold-sail-boats.php

Hang a life preserver over a doorway or entryway to party welcoming guests--find driftwood to put around, use miniature lighthouses as decoration, hang up nautical flags in different colors. If you have a place, hang white sheets to pull back to have the effect of a curtain (it resembles a sail) for more ambiance.

Send invites out in a message in a bottle filled with little bit of sand and tiny shells--write it on white or ecru paper..singe the edges...add a cork and hand deliver...address your guests as Shipmates..invite them to having "oceans of fun in the sun".

Play music like Jimmy Buffet or reggae, "Sailing", "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", etc.
