wedding centerpiece ideas?

Miss

my bridesmaids are wearing Turquoise and i do not know what color to use with it. does any one have any ideas for centerpieces and bouquets

Answer
Please ignore the suggestions using live beta fish. The vast majority of your guests will NOT want to suddenly be given a live fish as a pet, so giving away your centerpieces will not work....and male beta fish must not be kept in the same bowl, so a bride who uses live fish in her centerpieces will end up with 20+ seperate fish bowls to take care of...or her only other option is to flush all the fish. It seems like a real bad omen to kill all of the live creatures that were part of the centerpieces for your wedding.

Now, to answer your question on colors, centerpieces and bouquets:
Turquoise goes well with Aqua, ivory and/or white for a Summer wedding. If you go with a beach theme for your wedding, white, ivory and turquoise or turquoise, light turquoise (two shades of blue) and white would look great.

Going with white, ivory and turquoise will save you a lot of money on rental fees, since you will not have to get special blue tablecloths, you can get white or ivory and use turquoise accents like napkins or favors.

For your centerpieces, use round mirrors on each table. Have a larger vase or bowl in the center, surrounded by small glass votives in turquoise. Put turquoise marbles in the bottom of the vase, fill the vase with water, add a drop or two of blue food coloring and put one or two white roses in the water. Float a white candle on top. The light from the votives and the floating candle will be reflected off of the surface of the mirror, making your centerpiece glow. A fantastic effect.

If you go with ivory and/or white as accent colors, your options with flowers are much wider. Since their gowns will be all blue, I suggest going with simple white flower arrangements...such as bundles of white lillies or white roses with ivory wrapped around the stems. The white and ivory will stand out from the blue of their dresses instead of losing the flower arrangements to too much turquoise.

Just some food for thought. Good luck with your wedding!

My brother is a marine in CA and our family is in KY. He got married after Christmas and he is bringing his new wife to town this weekend. My mother and idea are putting on a coed post wedding shower. Do you have any ideas for centerpieces or entertainment? Thanks.

Answer
How big is your event? Is it going to be like a reception where there are many tables plus food and entertainment? Is there something that your brother and his new wife really enjoy? For example, do they love the beach... if so fill champagne glasses with sand and place a scroll in each one (can be bought cheap anywhere that sells invitations... have the scrolls say something like 'thank you for being a part of our special day', etc....) Place the srolls in the sand with a couple of shells and it looks like a message in a bottle.

tie some ribbon around seed packets and place them inside decorated flower pots... you can spray paint and decorate terra cotta flower pots for cheap.

If I have a little more info I can think of more ideas.....

I want to be unique and creative. I really dont want to do the candle and sand thing. But if you guys have good ideas to do with this or others ideas, please write back. Oh and thanks to all of those people that have helped me with my questions. Thanks so much. I dont know how to give thanks to those that have wriiten to me.

Answer
depending on how many tables you have, if you want to spend the extra money, you could do pretty vases with a colored beta fish in it. They would be fun to have and they are pretty. Most people give their centerpieces away at the end of the wedding, it could be a lot of fun.

You could also just find seashells and coral and lay them on the table with some blue fabric and a few pillar candles. That could look elegant.

Good luck!

Activity and other idea suggestions for a high school graduation party this summer?

Donna G

My son graduated high school this year and we need help planning and coming up with ideas for the party. Family friends, his friends, and relatives will attend so we need activities for all ages. Also any decor ideas/special touches would be helpful. His colors are greens, browns, and blues--he's a nature lover.
**No ideas involving alcohol please.**

Answer
I hope you can get some help from this:

Planning

This depends on your budget. You do have to cover:
Invitations and Postage
Centrepieces
Balloons
Flowers
Food
Drinks
Tableware
Photographer
Caterer, perhaps
Entertainment
Equipment Rental, if required
Favors and Prizes
Other Stationery, eg for Thank Yous

Perhaps you have decided on the venue. Maybe at home using your backyard, at the beach, park or an indoor venue.

Best have helpers, if you can, who are responsible for food, music, photographs, games, prizes, decorations and tidying away afterwards.

You may have a theme in mind. If you do it does let everyone dress in costume and it gives some focus to the party. The graduate is enough focus but perhaps a theme can be fun. EG, Luau, musical, pirates, or safari.

Decorations can be fairly simple but in the graduate's favorite colors. Balloons (tied in bunches and attached to doors, chairs etc), banners, streamers, a gossamer, pictures of the graduate, a sign in board for guests to leave messages, graduation hats, gradaution scrolls, graduate memorabilia, videos of the graduate at all ages. A pinata is fun!

I like decorating guests with glow bracelets.

The table can have a picture of the graduate as a centrepiece. Some confetti is good too!

Music should be decided with the graduate. Everyone needs to hear something they like at some point.

If your party is at home you might want to decide if you will freshen up some paint, clean, arrange parking, tell the neighbors, move pets out for the night and remove items not required.

Games: There are lots of games you can arrange to bring everyone together.

Match of the Year
What you do is try arranging lots of pictures of the grad at various periods throughout their school years on a table. You could turn this into a competition by asking guests to specify which photo belongs to which year.

Limbo
Play some fun music while your friends stand in line waiting to bend backwards low enough to fit under the limbo stick (broom handle, yardstick, etc.). In order to win, the limbo master must not touch the stick or fall on the floor while limboing under the stick (which is usually held by 2 people).

Pass The Orange
This fun-filled game is inexpensive and simple. The only supplies it requires are 2 oranges and people with both a neck and a chin. Divide the group into 2 teams. When the person (not actually playing the game) says "Go!" the people must pass the orange from neck to neck using only chins and necks. The team that can get the orange to the last neck in line the quickest without dropping the orange wins.

Treasure Hunt
In advance hide lots of items in the garden (or indoors). Tie in the objects with the party theme. Give everyone a sheet with the hidden items listed (or drawn for youngsters.) Time the teams or individuals as they find the items. For example for a pirate theme party you could hide fake coins. Have prizes for the winners.

For younger guests have a table with coloring in paper and pencils. Also you could have face paints and simple races.

Food:
For a mixed age group a buffet can be best with lots of salad, cold cuts, sandwiches, pizza and potato chips. For younger guests raisin boxes, fruit, and some chocolate treats.
Lots of fruit juice and water will keep everyone going.

Favors: favor bags with pens, pencils, some cake, chocolate and a photo holder, for example.

I hope this is of some help. Congratulations to the graduate!
