Is this a good end to my book?

TOWIE CHIC

âWell, hereâs to being eighteen!â Serena declared as she and Patience clinked glasses, both of them laughing.
The two best friends had pushed back the white Venetian blinds and were perched on the window seat in Serenaâs luxurious apartment. Her room was airy and spacious, pink gleaming paint on the walls and a thick cream carpet warming their feet. A king sized bed took up at least half of the room, yet the girls had still managed to fit a TV, dance mat, sofa and table of food and alcohol into the corner.
âAnd let it be a lot better then being seventeenâ Patience murmured back, looking out to the wonderful view of the beach; calm and serene water, white grains of sand and fresh open air.
âHell to yes!â Jodie shouted as she danced to the music, her arms and legs flailing wildly.
They were all spread around the house, Millie and Callie downstairs watching movies on the big screen, Rosalie and Karina sprawled on the bed, going through every boy in their contacts and ringing them in turn and Keira, Juliet and Leigh were watching Jodie.
Patience smiled as she wiped the tear that trickled down her cheek, Serena saw it but pretended not to as she got up and walked over to the gilded mirror on the opposite side of the room, admiring her reflection in the glass and smiling.
Everyone was happy and she looked great, things did have a happy ending after all.

Answer
Well, reading this out of context does you no favors, I must say. However, it's an ok ending, not the greatest, but then, I can't judge how well you ended it as I don't know the characters or the plot. I don't think a bunch of girls would end up that rich at the age of eighteen in real life, unless they were born into wealth, and if they were born into wealth, why the quote "Things did have a happy ending after all?" If they were wealthy, their lives wouldn't have any sad parts in them until after they left home, as the parents would definitely spoil them.

If, however, you are looking for just a "good" or "bad" response, i'd say good, as I didn't see any spelling or grammatical errors. The plot doesn't hold a dime up to grammar in my opinion, so I'll say, it's a good ending, as far as I can know.

is there a nice nearby beach to visit by just taking the subway/ train from manhattan NY ? directions?

sharad_wac

Nice summer beach to relax, and escape from manhattan - yet quite accessible by subway / train

Answer
Ok, there is a special deal on the Long Island Rail Road going to Long Beach. I'm not sure of the time table and the cost, but you can call the railroad or check on line. I used to use it before I had a car and house in the country. You take the train directly to Long Beach, I believe it was a straight ride and they let you out near the beach and you walk about a block or two to the sandy beach.
Other than that you can take the train, sorry can't remember which train, think it's the D, you go all the way to the end to Brighton Beach and be at the front of the train, and get out and you will be a block off of the beach. You want to go to the front part of the beach, it's the safest part, and the beach is safe. Bring your own chair for both places and towel and something to drink. Brighton Beach, no schedule as you are going on a subway.
Also, you can take a little longer trip and head for a day trip to fire Island. Take the Long Island railroad going to Atlantik (sp), it is a free beach, no homes. You can use the beach without anyone bothering you. actually you can use any of the beaches as they are all actually free beaches. It's just the home areas you can't use. Take the train out to probably Babylon and then you get a bus to the ferry, the ferry takes you across to the island and you can walk to the beach.
You can rent a car and head out to the Hamptons, but a lot of traffic. Also with a car you can go to the Jersey shore. I think there may be buses to the Jersey shore.
There are a lot of places to head to in the summer.
Also there is Reiis Park, but to be honest I'm not sure how to get there. It's a very nice beach. I haven't been there for awhile, but I remember liking it very much.
If you don't want to leave the city, there is a free pool, not crowded in the week, but crowded on weekends. John Jay Pool. It's on I think 77th Street and I believe York. All you need is a lock for your locker. Do not bring money with you and bring a plastic bag. Sometimes they let you bring a plastic bag in sometimes they don't. just bring your towel, suntan lotion and maybe a book, that's it. There are a lot of police around to make sure there are no problems at the pool. I used it for years until I recently moved into a building with a pool.
Well, I guess that should about cover it. I've given you all the things I can think of.

I am redesigning our den area. I want to make it modern, with a beach feel. How can I do this?

I have picked out a lot of black modernish furniture. But how can I add the beachy feel? The black furniture goes with some of our other furniture in our house, but not entirely. I am really trying to stick to IKEA.com, so if you have some ideas, that'd be awesome!

Answer
1] carpet in sand, or sea blue
2] walls in sky blue, with clouds, maybe?
3] upholstery in sand [ yellow beige ]
4] hang up a seagull mobile
5] palm tree standing lamps
6] seashell ornaments and knick knacks [ planters, bowls,
candle holders ]
7] beach towel covered throw pillows
8] sheer curtains in white or sky blue
9] collect old metal [ antique, or just used ] coolers to use as end and coffee tables. If you can't find one big enough, use shipping crate and decorate it like crates in Castaway.
10] paintings of ships or beach scenes

How should I offer something to the God and Goddess in Wiccan culture?

Alternativ

I was either going to place my offering plate at the base of the big tree in my backyard and let the animals take care of it, or I was going to walk to the beach, which is minutes by foot away from my house, and throw something into the waves. If i end up doing the latter, what should I throw to them? I'm new to this, as you can probably tell. :) Thank you!

And by the way, don't try and supress my religion with yours. That will just show your own ignorance.

Answer
My toddler & I used to shake out table crumbs outside as a "gift to the goddess in the form of ants"

When I toss something in the compost, I just silently consider the micro & macro organisms who would break down the scraps/etc.

As Wicca is about nature, I'd suggest looking at what is living locally to you. I rarely buy something special, but just think of what's locally. It's useless to consider leaving onion skins out, but leaving pumpkin or melon seeds would be welcome by many local wildlife.

What were the years for the soaps and how long.

I do know that Guiding Light was the longest running soap where it started on the radio in 1930-something and landed on tv in the 50's and will be ending this Nov.

A friend of mine is curious so I want to know, so I can tell him. Thanx!

Can someone please tell me the most economical way to move personal items to Brasil?

cariocano1

I just retired from teaching in Texas after 28 years and have applied for a residence visa to retire in Northeastern Brasil. As I am on retirement pay, I need to find the cheapest way to get my personal things there. I have downsized from a completely furnished 4 bedroom house and it is about 25-30 boxes. I can live without these for a while so there is no hurry. Any ideas?

Answer
Ship through a reliable and recommended moving company. Some are just plain careless. A friend had so much furniture damaged when she shipped from the US to Brazil. They apparently just wrapped table legs in plain brown paper and thats simply not enough. So make sure you get a good moving company even if a little pricey. At the Brazilian end find out from the movers if the cost includes delivery and set up at your house or do you have to take charge of the shipment from the nearest port. If the latter then you have to pay again to have it cleared through customs and moved to your house. For these services you would need whats called a shipping despachante at the Brazilian end. If you are moving electronic items then find out from the Brazilian consulate in the US if you can bring them over free as a transfer of residence. In that case you pay no duty at this end. It is a bit of a process as you got to list what you are shipping and get the permission of the consulate to bring them in. Hang on to this permission paper. You will need it at this end. Tell them its all used electronic stuff. New means paying duty. If you are moving to a beach area then do remember that the salty air is havoc for most household items and they will have a shorter life.

what color tile floors and interior paint color with a dark brown leather sofa?

Iam buying a new home and not sure what color to paint the interior wall. Also purchased a dark leather sofa and pick out this glass top pearl white or sea shell end table and coxtail table. Last but not least I want to put in tile floors but I'm not sure what color would be a good match.. Please help

Answer
It seems that your color scheme is already nuteral. Do the floor nuteral because you can always change wall paint or couches. It is not as easy to change tile. Put all your color on the wall. Dont be affraid of color. It depends on what your wanting the room to feel like. Your darker colors are going to be cozy and comfy, Your greens and blues are going to feel serine like a spa or beach house. yellow feels airy and breezy like a beautiful day outside. The choice is yours.

What are my rights and is there anyway I can leave my apartment before the end of the lease?

Cleto

I am a second year university student and I live in a student apartment complex in which each tenant is responsible for their own individual lease. The lease is by the bed, not the unit. Our rent includes cable & internet and we do share the utilities (all under my name). Living in this area was a horrible mistake. I am the only one in the apartment of 5 that works (two jobs) and is actually taking school seriously with 18 units as a bio major.

Everyone one else in the house abuses their parents' money and in no way hold any responsibility for their finances or social behavior. Under aged drinking and illegal smoking is common everywhere in this beach town of students. Recently, a new room mate moved into my crammed room. When I first signed up to live in that complex, we were promised a fully furnished apartment with a bed, desk and everything else for each student. The room I was placed in is only big enough for two beds and one desk, and now we're forced to share one desk (which he completely takes up with his new federally paid for TV, PS3, etc.) I keep my textbooks and important belongings (including SSI card) stashed inside the desk but I cannot use it for studying.

I'm usually gone on the weekends to work in Orange County but on Friday night, right before I was going to leave, I returned to the apartment to grab something I had forgotten to pack and found our bedroom a complete mess! My room mate and his friends decided to drink and wanted a beer pong table so they took all of my belongs out of the desk, threw them on my bed and removed the desk to use for beer pong. They spilled soda, alcohol and orange juice all over our bedroom floor and left everything a mess. I quickly emailed the manager and demanded that he find me another room to move into.

Keep in mind that I had previously contacted the manager to express my issue with our contrasting lifestyles and asked him to find another room for me to stay in. However, he has not replied at all to either of those messages and has not made any attempt to contact me or resolve the issue I have with the person he just shoved into my room without even telling me before hand.

I want to move out, especially since when I signed up for a room there, I filled out a form describing the kind of person I was and describing the type of people I want to be placed with. I signed up for a non-smoking house with quiet and studious housemates. These people are in no way the ones I had in mind. I haven't paid this month's rent yet, in hopes that THIS will get a response from the manager, but he has yet to contact me about that either, and rent was due on the 1st. What I'm asking for is any advice you might have on what I can do to get out of there quickly. Would the manager evict me for not paying the rent? What are the consequences of that? Do I have justification for withholding rent? Is there even anything I can do? I figured that when he confronts me about the rent, I would tell him that I'm just waiting for him to tell me the number of the new room had once said he would find for me. I just want to live in an environment where I can study and sleep at peace, without worrying about my housemates breaking a door, having people over, or dealing with their loud parties. I think that the fact that we all have an individual lease complicates things. I do not appreciate his unprofessional approach to the living situation he created by sticking two obviously different people into the same room.

All advice is appreciated!
I don't have a copy of the contract, but I think that all of the furniture was on there. On their website, they advertise a fully furnished room complete with bed and desk for each student. Before the incident with the new room mate happened, I was emailing the manager about installing bunk beds in the room to make way for a new desk, which he said that he would do by last Friday (the day I described above), and he never did. Since then he has not replied to my emails and I figure it's because he doesn't take any of the tenants seriously as their all naive college kids. I think I'm going to have find time to confront him physically and maybe try to obtain a copy of the contract and look to see exactly what he promised to provide, especially if it says that he was supposed to match my personality and life style to others.

Answer
Does your contract actually state how many people would be living in the room or the type of furniture you'd each be getting? You'll need to focus on those things in order to prove his breach of contract with you.

If they aren't responding to emails, phone calls, or such then send a certified letter with your demands. Withholding rent will give them grounds to evict you which will make it very hard for you to find another place. If you want to play hardball you can inform him, in a certified letter, of the illegal activities happening there. Ask him if he'd like to handle them or if the police should be involved.

--edit--

Be VERY careful about blindly taking advice of withholding rent. Each state has very strict and very different laws on when you can legally do this. I would especially not trust someone who appears to have run into the next room to ask her daddy.
