Birthday Party on the Beach? Games / Activities?

Q. We live on the beach and are having my daughter's first birthday party soon. (she is already 1, but we were moving when she turned 1) What could we do to keep kids out of the water without parents or adults? I mean like games. We have kid horseshoes, adult horseshoes, sand toys, beach towels (to sit on), beach chairs, a baby gate cage thing (for small ones) , a craft table, food, and water guns (for older children.) Is there anything else we could do for in the sand or on the porch?
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266978&cp=3243470

Also, does our menu sound good?

Ribs, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Corn (grilled by hubby)
Cousins Party Sub
Chips/Pretzels
Fruit Salad and Slices
Veggie and Dip Tray
Crackers/Cheese/Sausage
Cake
Pie
Pasta Salad
Cookies
Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Pink Lemonade
Lemonade
Water
Soda
100% Juice Boxes
(some of the food listed above is being brought by close family members, some by us)

We also have floaties, water toys, and boogie boards for the ocean.

There will be big umbrellas set up in front of our house (on the beach) for people to sit under.

Are we missing anything? Any other ideas to keep little guys out of water unless taken in?

lol2t1 - Our house has an outdoor shower (crazy I know, but we inherited the house. We are NOT crazy rich.) The kids can shower there after playing the the sand and ocean.

Answer
Your menu sounds great! Instead of subs, maybe you can offer finger sandwiches and pigs in a blanket as they are easier for little hands.

I would also include a treasure hunt (make the buried objects obvious if you have little people). Avoid sandcastle building contests unless you want to use the beach showers (some have outdoor showers) for water or unless you are supplying a tub of water they can use to pack the sand.

Other ideas include:

-checkers or board games on the porch
-beach volleyball with an inflatable beach ball
-relay races on the beach
-carrying an egg on a spoon relay race
-wheelbarrow relay race (one kid holds the other's legs) and at the midpoint of the race is a whip cream pie with a reeces peanut butter cup in the middle. They have to bring the peanut butter cup back to the finish line in their teeth.
-water balloon toss
-relay race where kids have to put on a piece of clothing and run to the other end where their team is waiting, tag someone, take off the clothes and the other teammember puts it on, etc. until you run out of teammembers.

Have fun!

WTFBBQ (:

So were gunna have it at the beach probably order pizza and play volleyball
what else should we do ?

Answer
DECORATIONS: You can buy or (and) make decorations. Anything you'd want, from starfish to whales, just go crazy with imagination! Palm trees you can bye or make, blow up brown balloons to make coconuts, leis, (make or bye), plastic or paper fish to hang from the ceilings, stand on the tables or lay on the floor! Put out colorful umbrellas or flowers, hawian phrases on posters to hang, fish nets, balloons, streamers, lights, sea shells, any interesting lamps, sculptures or photos, just have fun and go WILD!

FOOD AND DRINKS: Fruit ko-bobs, smoothies,Sodas (I recomend you just have a large cooler with all sorts of different soda or dinks in it!) Hot dogs, Cheeseburgers, and even colorful GOLD FISH!! You could eat shrimp, lobster, or FISH! Be sure to be artistic when you decorate the snack table! I would bye a cheap but nice table cloth that is plastered with beach themed pictures or something just plain colorful, like Tye-Dye!

DESSERTS: Thats right, desserts have their own indivisual coulmn! Make sundays, (have plenty of different toppings!) Cake, (DUH!) and there's a great cake that you can find at www.FamilyFun.com it is a cake scened like the beach and ocean, and it's topped with frosting AND CANDY!! I wish had more then these ideas but, nothing's come'n out of my mouth!

SNACKS: That's right, snacks too! Make sure to have a small snack table with a big bowl of candy on it (On the invites, remember!) Chips, vegetables, and different dips, and plenty of fruit!

GAMES: (Be sure to have a grand mystery prize for the team that has the most points at the end of the Tropical Game Zone!)Eat the chip then Guess the dip! This game's title says it all, Split your guests into two teams, blindfold the first 2 people and Dip the chip in a 'special' dip, give it to the person, and just let them smell it, feel it (?) then eat it. Whoever guess' it right first wins their team a point, and they get a pie in the face! (Just use whip o' cream in a paper plate, nothing fancy but the mess, (on the person!) The team who has the most pied faces at the end of the game (When everyone has had a chance) wins. That's 1 game point for the winning team. Everyone picks a water balloon that has a prize in it. Which brings us to the next game. Drop it or Pop, Snooze or Loose! Don't let the kids be bummed cuz of loosing the first game, they still have a chance to get the mystery prize! Have the teams hold their water balloons, the winning team lines up side ways to the other team. They each hold the water balloon that they still have from winning the first game, when the word "GO!" Is heard, have them toss the balloon back and forth to eachother. Whoever pops it or drops it first, looses and the other person gets the prize from inside. After everyone is done, Whichever team has the most prizes win, for a game point. The last game is a game from www.FamilyFun.com, ICECUBE STRAVAGANZA!: Have the 2 teams change into their bathing suits, and stand on opposite ends of the pool. Have 1 empty sand pail on each end of the pool (1 per team) Then dump a bag of Ice into the middle of the pool then shout, "GO!" Then everyone jumps in, make sure there is no pushing or shoving in the water, and keep a close eye on them for this game. Each kid may only grab 1 ICECUBE and put it into their team's bucket. Whoever has the most icecubes at the end of the 2 minute time limit wins. Whoever has the most game winning points gets the mystery prize. So no one feels left out, give the team that lost a little something too.

ENTERTAINMENT AND CRAFTS: Make tye-dye tee's, picture frames w/ real sea shells, (or fake) watch movies, eat, uggghhhhh, eat, and eat! Just kidding! You could also make a scrap book, just for your party. Use all of those photo's you should have! (While the kids are watching the movie you can get the film developed at the 1 hour photo shoot! And that's after the cake and icecream and presents!) Play music or dance, sing or play regular games, limbo, volleyball, or just go 2 bed!

GOODY-BAGS: Put in tye-dye bags, or just regular bags, sunglasses, braclets, photos of themselves, candy, lip gloss, eye-shadow, glitter and some bath stuff including glow in the dark night jewelery!

What are some 16th birthday party ideas: games, food, music?

beach game tables on Game room ? Cayman Game Tables and Chairs | Beach House Decor
beach game tables image

For my 16th birthday i wanted to have a beach party. After that i was thinking everyone could come back to my house for a sleepover in the backyard. (Girls and Guys will be in separate tents) Do you have any other ideas for the party?

Answer
You could divide the party into a few groups (by bday month, or boys vs girls) and play games like... Apples to Apples, Pictionary, telephone pictionary is great*, Cranium, imaginiff would be fun if everyone knew each other well, Taboo. Thats that for board games.... but the classics like Spin the Bottle, and 7 min in Heaven. lol

Food. cake of course. although if you want to just have a buffet of food you can have lots of cupcakes along with finger food like carrots and other veggies, mini sandwhiches, chips and dip. Drinks. Juice and soda.

Music. Just have mix CD's or a playlist on your iPod playing in the background. Maybe have speakers inside and out.

* Telephone pictonary is a game where all you need is paper and pencils. Say your playing with 10 people.. You will need 10 stacks of paper with 10 pieces of paper in each stack. (Size should be like a quarter of a 8"x11" piece of paper) Everyone has a stack and writes a phrase like "Puppy eating from the kitchen table". All stacks are passed clockwise. Each person has a new stack with a phrase written on it.. They draw that phrase on the next piece of paper in the stack and places the written phrase at bottom on stack. The stacks then are passed agian. Now everyone writes what they see or think the phrase is like "cat liking a bowl of leftovers". And so on until a stack comes to the original owner and you can see how the drawings and phrases have progressed. If your with the right group of people the game is quite hilarious.

Have Fun!!!

What family activities are there in Orange Beach over Thanksgiving?

preds1fan

About 10 of us traveling to Orange Beach Thanksgiving week, several young children in the group, looking for fun family type activities to do besides the beach. thanks

Answer
Preds1fan, there does not appear to be many special events organized for this Thanksgiving holiday.
On the Monday 26 November is the Orange Beach Christmas Tree Lighting and Santa Visit, 26 at 6pm on front lawn at City Hall.
Talk with Santa, Games, Refreshments and Childrenâs Entertainment.
This is a real family event.

The Orange Beach Art Center's
Annual "Deck The Halls" Holiday Art Sale
Location: Orange Beach Art Center
Begins: Nov. 23rd
(It would be worth keeping your eye on the website's upcoming events as Thanksgiving draws nearer)

The link below has many day-trip ideas from Orange Beach, each one has an external link.
It may be a good start for you from which to plan:
http://www.orangebeach.ws/daytripideas.html

* In addition to all tha beach activities (swimming, fishing, boat charter etc) a hike and picnic at the Gulf State Park would be a great outdoor family activity.
* Also the Orange Beach Waterfront Park (on Wolf Bay) has a 400â fishing pier with covered pavilions and picnic tables; restrooms; and a large kidâs park.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped.
* Take a dolphin spotting cruise. The waterways around Orange Beach have a large dolphin population.
There are several dolphin cruise companies, children and adults enjoy this type of outing.
* Hire bicycles and discover the town on two wheels.

There is more information on Orange Beach at the website below:

How do I make my party epic without trying too hard?

beach game tables on UNIQUE BABY SHOWER and PARTY DECORATING IDEAS: PRINCESS BABY SHOWER ...
beach game tables image

KC

I'm having a bonfire at the beach and I'm expecting around 20-30 people to show. We're all 14-17 and I want my bonfire to be epic and for people to talk about it after in a good way so how can I set it up to be that way? If you've ever had a verryyy successful high school bonfire/party, what did you do to set up?

Answer
Make sure people know what to bring. Don't put it all on you. Don't try too hard. Relax and let it happen. Let it be known you are having it and you are gonna have some of the stuff but people will need to bring what they want too. Like if they want a certain drink or food or a folding chair instead of a blanket or whatever. Have somewhere for people to drop off their stuff when the get there like a table for the food and have a few extra things for people that forget. You will need, music, a blow up beach ball or two, a Frisbee, chips, sodas, hotdogs, buns, marshmallows, plenty of pointy sticks, towels/blankets, folding chairs, plates, napkins. Stuff for a fire of course. A camera. Invite with texts, facebook, and word of mouth. When people over plan and get all neurotic about the details the parties are lame. Don't plan like activities and stuff. Just have a couple of things available to do if they want so they won't be bored. Boredom is as bad as planning. That beanbag toss game is always cool or that ladder ball thing. That is basically it...Just sit back and let it go...

Charity booth game ideas and items to sell for hawiian theme?

Nancy

my friends and I have a booth at relay for life and our theme is hawiian and tropical. what are some games, raffles or items we could sell to raise money for donations?

Answer
At my high school, we had a beach week that raised money for a scholarship, and it's one of our biggest events - so I've been here! We sold sausage balls, brownies, and general food items, but also sold Hawiian themed items like virgin margaritas and grilled pineapple. It's also fun to set up a Wii and a TV and charge a dollar per game of Just Dance - they have loads of summery, fun songs on the game! You can also have fun with decorations and use grass skirts as table skirts, and wear swimming trunks, Hawiian printed shirts, sandals, etc.

You could have a silent auction of beach-themed items like:
*A basket of beach/vacation necessities like sunscreen, a bathing suit, beach towels, beach reads, a sun hat, a beach chair, a beach ball, inflatables, a sand bucket, etc.
*Swimming trunks, bathing suits
*Surf boards, boogie boards
*Gas cards

Set up a stereo and play summer music, and have a mini dance party!
Have a pineapple-eating contest.

I wish you the best of luck!
