SummerEast
Hey there! I'm planning a sweet 16 for the summer (ik it's early, but i want it to be fab) and I need lots of help. So I was thinking a huge beach blowout, fun music, teens having a blast at the beach celebrating my special day (16 girls including me, and 16 guys), a performer. So I need ideas for food, music (modernish please), games, invitations ideas, decorations, ideas for photos, time of party, the cake, everything else :) Also, what beaches would I be able to rent a part of? Like a private party and how much would it cost? I live in NJ. Thanks! Also any extra tips, warnings, anything would be helpful :) Inbox too!
Answer
For food I would say easy cold finger foods:
Ice cream
Fruit Salad
Kabobs
Hot dogs
Pop corn
Hamburgers
Music :
Who are your fave artists?
Ask friends what their fave songs are so you have a mixture.
Games:
simple...your games are already there...sand and water.
Water guns
Sand chug (be careful. I've seen some tragedies with this)
Being buried in sand (Same as the first one)
Beach balls
Bring a net
Invites:
A flyer is quick simple and cheap
Or try a mini beach ball (deflated) and write in sharpie marker details about your party
Child-sized sandals and do the same as the beach ball
Buy sand globes (you know the ones where you fill them with colored sand?) fill them up with sand and print slips of paper with the details of your party
Decorations:
You don't need much. Maybe a banner some tiki lanterns and center pieces for tables (if any).
Just take pictures and make a photo book with beach themed decorations
I would say mid day (1-4pm) is a good start and let is last through the night. Better yet, if you want it to end early...start early. If you prefer later...start late, but note, it gets cold.
Cake:
A sheet cake with beach items on it is easy
Or a circular sheet cake with a starfish on there is cool too.
To end the party...have a huge BONFIRE (THEY ARE A LOT OF FUN!!!)
I'm not sure about the beach for the fact I'm nowhere near jersey.
That's all I got and if you could help me with my question:

Here's some ideas: do you know a place that sells those roll-up bamboo beach mats? (like Big Lots or wherever, they're about $2)...can use one rolled out on the table to set the food on...can use a few others as a backdrop to hang up around>>>put your beach pics on it. Drape grass skirts around front of table.....hang garlands of flowers or pin flowers to corners of table in front.
You can also take BIG poster board (craft store) in bright bold colors and cut into a shape of a flip-flop. Attach the "V" straps from colorful striped ribbon, using glue gun (or spray adhesive), then glue a 3 inch plastic flower in the center at the "toes". Attach a ribbon on the back and hang it up--on the bamboo mat would look good. Make a bunch of them for colorful decorations.
Create a "bar area" by using streamers (tan color or grass green color) and fan it out tent style---work from center and make lines all around (attach ends to ceiling (like you're making a canopy). Set beverages up>>make mocktails in fancy glasses, garnish with fruits, cherries on tiny paper umbrella picks.
Make bowls of sand...create a scene with shells, tiny umbrellas, tropical fake flowers and place them around.
Use top of a pineapple to hold skewers of fruits and cheese cubes, olives (use the rest of the pineapple in recipes to serve>>>an Ambrosia salad?
Get some Tiki torch lights to light and some leis (can wear them, pass out to all guests, and use on table for decoration around bowls)
Have hula hoop and limbo contests.
Play the "mood music" (you'll want all your current stuff, but there are some classic and fun songs from other eras that go with this theme.) Suggestions: "Hot Hot Hot by Buster Poindexter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrhf_zgtmAg
look for some good Reggae music, calypso music, steel drum music>>google play lists for luau parties is another idea. Just have fun with planning your party and let your imagination go wild!
