Where is a good place to stay in the Ozarks, and what activities would you suggest?

Next week, my fiancee and I have a week off and we only live a few hours from the Ozarks. Neither of us have ever been and we were thinking it might be fun to go for a couple of days. Has anyone been there and where would you suggest staying (low budget please)? Also, we love the outdoors...camping, canoeing, hiking, etc. What places would you suggest we visit and explore? Thanks.

If you are headed to Branson, look for a motel on Lake Taneycomo. This will put you close to the new Branson Landing, on the water, and most are very affordable. I would suggest Tanglewood Lodge, they are nice units and have kitchenettes. Plus the motel next door has a great breakfast cafe that is cheap. You should check out the fish hatchery below Table Rock Dam for a free tour. You should also check out College of the Ozarks in Hollister. The students there work for their tuition money and they have a great craft shop and awesome restaurant. Of course there is always the touristy Branson things to do and this time of year it is very afforable. Take advantage of the many coupon books everywhere you turn. If you are going to be in Northwest Arkansas, be sure to spend a night in Eureka Springs at the Basin Park Hotel. It is right in the middle of town and has great shopping, restaurants, bars, museums, etc. You can spend a whole weekend browsing that town, not to mention it is very romantic! Have fun!

Where should I go visiting Sydney Australia?

I have never been to Sydney Australia, but am getting an opportunity to go for 2 days before a 10 day long trip to Fiji with my college. I have 2 nights of freedom in Australia, and what to see everything worth seeing! I am a college student, so my friend and I want a memorable trip without breaking the bank. Because of our short time, we want to stay around Sydney area, as we are not renting a car. The trip is at the end of May. Thanks in advance!

Ok, i'm going to post an incredibly long answer and with you only having 2 days you'll need to pick and choose which bits you want to do, but its the answer I gave a friend who was visiting my home city a while back and its gold dust so here you go...

The Shangri-La hotels Blu Bar 36, 36th floor of the hotel on the rocks (near the end of the bridge), its got the most awesome night time view of Sydney. I'd go on a weeknight as its always busy and book a table as there are 2 separate lounges, one with the bar and one with the lounge with the view which is table service or you could go when it opens at 5pm and just book your table there and go back. You want the table service lounge, and be prepared to nurse your drink because its very very expensive. Mine and Mels cocktails in there were about $23 each!! But well worth it!

The average bottle of beer in Sydney costs $7-8, and a Schooner costs about $6

You have to get the ferry over to Luna Park one weekend night, its absolutely crazy! Go for a drink at the bar thats on the left as you walk through the giant lady's head! Its free to get into the park so you can just go for a wander round. It is random if you just sit on the terrace with a drink for a while though.

You need to go to The Ivy, its a collection of about 5 different bars, ones a brilliant saturday night, thats the Ivybar. But you need to go in the dayime to the Pool Club. Its a big swimming pool with bars around the edge and little islands with sun loungers in the middle of the pool. It opens at 11am and its brilliant! There's the webpage if you want to look:

The absolute best view and pictures you'll get in the whole city are from Lady MacQuaries Chair in the park. To get there, if your standing facing the opera house at the bottom of the stairs, go right through the botanical garden gates and follow the wall path all the way round. This is also an absolutely awesome place to watch the fireworks from on New Years.

Darling Harbours great for bars in the daytime, happy hour on the weekends 3-5pm and most of them do pretty good deals like $2-3 schooners and wine. And some great deals on food. Me and mel had the best hangover day ever sat at "Nicky's" its an italian style restaurant but they have really good deals all afternoon.

Ok... Off alcohol!

Manly is a brilliant place, plus the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly is i think the number 1 thing to do for tourists. Its about $13 return, and there's a pub about halfway down the corso (main shopping strip) that looks a bit like a wetherspoons and they do the best $10 steak chips and salad i've ever had! Plus the beach is the closest really nice beach to the City.

And on that note.... Bondi Beach is overrated, crowded all the time, and crap!!! Go, so you can say you've been but seriously, its not a great beach. If you want to do a learn to surf, go to Manly. And go up to the Northern Beaches at least once. They're some of the best beaches in the country: Collary, Dee Why, Narrabeen, Bilgola, Avalon, Palm Beach. Or you could just kill 2 birds with 1 stone and go up to Palm Beach where they film Home and Away. To get there just jump on the L90 bus from Wynyard main bus terminal, it takes about an hour but its well worth it for a day at a beautiful huge beach which is most of the time absolutely empty in the week so you should have it pretty much to yourself!

If you can, go camping at "The Basin" on Pittwater, in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase national park. Its the most beautiful place i've ever seen in my life with the best swimming and weather! Its got this huge lake/inlet thing which is always really warm and you can swim right round up into the bushland. Plus Pittwater is beautiful on its own.
You just get the bus up to palm beach but get off at the ferry port, barrenjoey house restaurant, then get a 15min ferry over there. There are massive BBQ's so you can just take food over with you, you have to book it, but it is amazing you won't be disappointed! There is absolutely nothing there though, not even a shop, Its a hundred miles from anywhere by car! To book the camping call 02 99741011

Oh, and I don't know if your interested, but in Manly there's a colony of 'Little Penguins' That live under the ferry port near the beach and if you sit on the wall between 8-10pm you can see them all come waddling up the beach!

A friend and I have been planning this for a few years now, we have everything we need, *well we think we do* We need to know if there is anything we need to add to the list.
There's going to be four of us. Were going to Michigan to camp in the wilderness for a year. That's right, a year. One of us is a medic from the marines for over 6 years. *retired* the other has done this before so i think we can cover that we have a couple of guys that know what there doing.
Here is our list, please tell us if there's more things we need to add, We are leaving in a few days.

1 tent made for ten
1 canopy
1 canopy triangle, to cover wood
4 cots, sleeping pads, pillows, weather blankets mosquito nets for over the cots, ponchos
1 camp grill, coffee pot maker, 4 man cook set, camp dutch oven, dutch over tripod, campers griddle, rotisserie spit grill, portable sinks with dinning set, cast iron campers grill, <no propane, all wood use)
2 machetes, 2 axes, 4 8" jungle knives, *all have handguns for protection- with ammo*

well thats about that, Anything we need to add on our list? we do not plane on moving around srom site to site, we are goin to be stationed in one camp site for the year, we already have talked to the DNR in the area, they told us where we can go for this kind of camping. DNR will check up on us once a week they said. they know that we are on are way. and they said what we can haunt for and when, we have our hunting license's and we have money saved for the tags for hunting, They said that they will drop them off when there ready for use and we can pay for them, so we dont have to go into town. We want to stay into the wilderness with out going into town for anything.
so did you think of anything?

I want to call BS on this one, too. Letting you squat on state land for a year, bringing game tags to you? Pretty unlikely. If DNR did this for one group they'd have to do it for everyone, and pretty soon the woods would look like some third-world refugee camp with tents sprouting all over the place, rancid pit latrines overflowing into the ground water resulting in filth and disease, the entire woodlands denuded for firewood, and every living creature would be killed and eaten for survival.

On top of that your list is poorly planned, far too heavy and detailed in some areas, too light and weak in many others. Believe me if you live on MRE's you will not be needing nearly a quarter of that much toilet paper, because you'll be constantly constipated, will get grossly overweight and become hypertensive, and will probably stroke-out on your folding toilet trying to squeeze-out a turd. And speaking of toilets, how exactly do plan to store and dispose of 365+ bags full of human fecal matter?

5,000 arrows??
DNR is going to bring you your tags so you don't have to go into town? You're not going into town for anything, like maybe ICE for your coolers???

If DNR was really inclined to allow such a thing, one look at your list would have them rolling on the floor. Of course maybe those guys have a macabre sense of humor and are running a pool to see how long before you give up or die.
