no paint or anything since im renting an apartment though, thanks :)

Answer
mount sand dollars or starfish to the walls, hang up an old fishermans net, use wicker (dark) furniture, get a mini palm tree fake or real, put it in a ceramin pot and put it in there, spray a ocean scented spray there every day, put a bowl of fake mangoes by the table, put a hula skirt on the lamp, use blue bedsheets, hang up pictures of tropical sunsets and tropical fish, use candles, use bamboo things, like a bamboo screen, make a mobile out of coctail umbrellas, mosaic a lamp with mini shells (like the kind on shell leis) or beach glas, put a jar of sand in your room, like a big glass vase 3/4ths with sand, rest with clear resin to look like water, and before the resin hardens put fake flowers so they look like theyre floating, get fat seabuiscut/sand dollar shells and put xmas lights in the holes in the back ( http://images.scrippsweb.com/HGTV/2005/01/14/dodvignette_shell_finished_w190.jpg )

What is some things i can add to my room to make it more beachy ?

I don't have the option of painting my room, but i've painted a few small pieces of furniture blue, put pictures of the beach on the wall and have got shells and origami fish stuck to the wall, but i've run out of ideas and i'm looking for ideas of things that won't cost a lot or i can make myself. any help would be good.
Thanks (:

Answer
Tan/cream carpet. Paint the walls part way up in a wave of tan, then paint blue sky above that. Get an beach umbrella for the corner and put a beach chair under it for reading. You can put a light in the umbrella to shine down. Get glass end tables and put a beach ball under each. Buy a mural for one wall from the internet that shows a palm tree, and ocean. You could match the tan paint to the sand in the poster. Also you can add cocoanut scented candles. Lamps can be glass with seashells inside--they are on the internet under glass-lamp--shells search for about $100 each or less.

Part of California LA most affordable to live?

Right now I am living in Ny. What was your experience with regard to the cost of living?

Answer
Most affordable? Try the three B's: Barstow, Bakersfield, Beaumont. All are about 100 miles away from LA.

If you want to live in or around LA, you need a plan: First item on the agenda is rent. A decent 1BR apartment in LA currently goes for $1200, give or take. Nicer areas and areas closer to the beach are much higher. Don't expect to move to Santa Monica and get an apartment on the beach for that much. Or Toluca Lake, or Beverly Hills. Unlike many metro areas, LA is unique in that it extends for nearly 100 miles in every direction. There are no open spaces between towns. So the price tends to stay high until you are 70-100 miles from Los Angeles.

Next, you will need a car. Los Angeles is VERY spread out, and train service is extremely limited. If you don't have a car, you will have to take a bus, which takes 3 times longer to get anywhere than a car.

All told, it generally takes about $3,000 per month to live here. If you don't have a job that pays that much or skills that can get you that kind of job, stay where you are. If you are unskilled and work for minimum wage (or for tips like bartending or waiting tables), you'll only make about $1200 per month.

And speaking of jobs, they are rather hard to come by now. College grads seeking employment are having a very tough time of it right now, since the job market is flooded with experienced people who were laid off. Unemployment is over 12% right now. Not exactly the kind of job market you want to move into.

Finally, you will need money. Landlords want first month's rent and a security deposit up front. You'll need money for food, transportation, utilities, etc. The consensus in this forum is that you need about $10,000 to start out.

Do some research on these sites to see about safety vs. price:
