Wedding ideas? (rock and roll theme)?

Duck Frog

So I just got engaged to my bf of 2.5 years. We both are into rock music and we are going to have a live band play at our wedding. We want a rock and roll wedding with the colors being red, black, and white. I'm gonna be in black, the groom in white, and bridesmaids in red. Any ideas for venues (like outdoor, beach, just general venue ideas) and ideas on wedding invites and table settings? Thanks so much! Oh and we want our wedding in late summer/early fall :)

Answer
i would go with an indoor venue for a theme like this because you will want to decorate with old rock n roll posters or vinyl records or record cover. it would be fun to find a venue with that black and white floor if you are going for vintage rock and roll, or have it in a theater or venue where they normally hold concerts if you want a more modern rock vibe.

Do you think that this is a cute idea for wedding favors/table settings?

sunflower.

Our theme has yellow and dark blue (our two favorite colors, his blue, mine yellow). Anyway, in my bouquet there will be sunflowers, I LOVE sunflowers so there was no question about that.

I'm on a budget, so I was thinking something creative for the centerpieces. I collect colored glass vases, have been since I was around twelve, and I have a TON of them all over the house, more than thirty extra that I can lend to the decorations, or just get them all on the table. But there are yellow ones, red ones, blue ones, or just clear ones with neat designs all from thrift stores. Anyway, I was thinking of putting sunflowers in the vases and scattering the different vases on tables with small candles, so the light goes through that. I was also thinking that they might be cute favors? Just so that I wouldn't have to deal with getting all the vases up again truthfully.

Also what I was thinking for favors, is getting sunflower seeds in those brown seed bags and tying them with a ribbon that says our names and date.

What do you think? My ceremony is on the beach and is very earthy and might I even say "Hippie". =]

Answer
I think it is a great idea! I love sunflowers, they are so pretty. I like the vases idea. Don't be afraid to mix and match the colors of the vases, stick a sunflower in it[buy an artificial one if you can't get a real practice one], and if it looks great, use it. Red is a really great color for sunflower yellow, and that sunflower yellow color would go pop against the red. And certain shades of red [not to mention blue and yellow and green]might coordinate the blue and the yellow together too.

I adore the light shining thru colored glass and crystal. You should see my Xmas tree. A friend had her daughter's wedding at a glass blowing factory/glass artist's studio last year, and selected a glass creation for each of the reception tables. No flowers, just glass. Beautiful.

And save yourself a lot of trouble and time with large numbers of vases, there is no need to saturate the reception with vases and flowers. A few well placed ones would be spectacular. Sunflowers are big and showy all on their own. One smaller vase with a single bloom, or a bigger vase with 3 would work. You could always bribe a guest to collect the vases and wrap them up for transport home. I would do it for a vase and some sunflowers. A dark red vase, or cobalt blue, please.
Just be sure that your sunflower does not make your vase top heavy, we don't want you to lose any to breakage.

If you want to give the votives away as favors, fine, but if they burn the entire reception time, they might be too hot to touch when it is time to take them home.

I like the sunflower seed idea. Either the kind in the brown paper bag, or go get a small package at the store, the kind with the picture on the front. Either would be cute. Might consider tying the bag with natural twine, the kind like you would tie tomato vines up with, and find a cute country design for a gift tag. Or even cut out a tag from some brown paper, and buy sunflower stickers from the craft store. Some of those stickers at Michael's look like photos, they are so real. And since fall is now out in the stores, now would be a great time to visit Michael's and see what else might interest you.
I found the bouquet of butterflies so cute, someone on here had a picture [and so does Martha Stewart]. that would be so smashing, yellow butterflies and sunflowers. Butterflies that match your vases, pretty too.

I would not give your vases away! You might miss them! I was not sure that is what you meant to give away. But if you do want to give some away, to the bridesmaids or to the parents, that might be OK, you might not miss just a few.

If you want to carry the theme of sunflowers and hippy/ nature into your shower, suggest a little decorated hand painted sunflower on a clay clay pot, and some seed packets, and maybe a bitty trowel to go with it. they sell clay pot paint and bitty pots at Michael's, I just saw them there.
