how do i use my crafting table in minecraft?

Q. i'm trying to make a wooden pick axe, and i read that i need to use my craft table thing. how do i use it?

place the work bench somewhere (right click) then right click the work bench

I have a heavy duty wooden work bench....can i use this to set my welder on?

Use your welder to make you a table for the welder... You will get good practice plus have a table that will hold it...
