How can I make a wedding elopement picnic for two on the beach unique?

beach table setting ideas on White Table Setting and Decor at Wedding Reception
beach table setting ideas image

Autumn

Think how a caterer sets up food for a perfect display but picnic style. Any ideas about the perfect setup to make it more comfortable. I love seafood and its on the beach but want something unique. Its for a 10/10/10 beach elopement.

Answer
For two...right?

I would bring a body board to use for the table and a nice beach towel for a tablecloth. I would have food with dips and have the dip in a small bowl in the center of the plate with the food to be dipped all around the plate.
1. a meat platter..I would have shrimp coctail, crab legs and salmon cakes with a seafood dip in the center. Maybe a few slices of rye party bread. Garnish with bunches of chives.
2. a vegetable platter...I would have carrots, radishes, cucumbers and avocado with a ranch type dip in the center. Maybe a few deli crackers. Garnish with parsley.
3. a dessert platter...I would have grapes, strawberries, melon balls and pineapple chunks with a nice fruit dip in the center. Maybe a few wafer type cookies. Garnish with Mint leaves.
4. Wine coolers to drink. You can do the champagne later.

This is a recipe I have for a fresh fruit dip...it is excellent!
FRESH FRUIT DIP OR DRESSING
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp enriched flour
1 egg yolk
2 1/2 TBS lemon juice
1/2 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
Combine sugar, flour and egg yolk. Add fruit juice.
Cook in double boiler till thick. Cool. Fold in whipped cream.

I need ideas for a wedding shower and bachelorette party?

batmancrtn

I am the maid of honor in my best friends wedding. I am throwing the wedding shower and bachelorette party. Ive been reading ideas online for both but everything requires lots of money. Im on a TINY budget and was wondering if anyone had free or cheap ideas of things to do.

Answer
A shower is fairly inexpensive depending on how many people you invite. Let's say you invite 20 people. Invites will run you about $30-$40. Then food. You can go as cheap as you want for that. I'd say punch, a cake, and a few sandwiches/puff pastries will run you about $50. You should have a co-host split it with you as I imagine you aren't having it at your own house. Then that would be about $50 each.

If that's too much, do some things yourself. Instead of buying a couple flower arrangements for the table, pick your own. Instead of buying frozen quiches or puff pastries at a warehouse club, make sandwiches yourself. Make chicken salad croissants and cucumber sandwiches. Then you could cut the cost in about half.

For a bachelorette party, how many girls are you inviting? It's not just the wedding party that's invited. I'd say the average number is between 7 and 15 girls. Ask them what their budget is. For $20 a person you can do a fair amount.

My bachelorette party we went to dinner at a restaurant that was doing buy one get one free appetizers. We all passed them around the table and it ended up being $8 a person for 2 appetizers each (though I don't think we actually ordered that much). Then we went to a few bars with ladies get in free. Then after about 1 drink, people started buying the bachelorette party drinks. Including buying my drinks, I think that ended up being about $15 per person over 3 bars. So my total was about $25 per person.

There are so many things you can do--it depends on the girls. For an older friend of mine, they hired a chef for about $300. They spent $200 on wine. That was only $25 per person since they had 20 people.

For another friend who had known her bridesmaids since they were 5, they had a sleepover like the old days. A lot of old 80s movies, popcorn and margaritas all night. That was something like $30 total as they got the bucket of margaritas from bed bath and beyond and popcorn is super cheap. Someone put the movies on their netflix.

My groom went camping for his bachelor party. A campsite is about $20-$30. Between beer, food, wood for the fire, gas to get there and other stuff I think everyone put in $30. They rented 2 campsites and between the whole group, tents and sleeping bags were covered. However I've been to campsites that already had tents set up for you.

You could tour wineries. When we were out in California we rented an 8 passenger limo. It was about $40 per person. Many wineries are free and the ones that aren't have roughly a $5 tasting fee. You could easily just do free ones though. Oregon, Virginia, NC--all have a ton of wineries.

One thing I've heard of some people doing is going to an amusement park. That ends up being close to $60 per person though once you have parking and food thrown in but there are lots of outdoorsy things you can do. Minor league baseball games come to mind. You could go to the beach for a day trip. A cooler filled with ice and drinks for the day, and stopping for a meal on the way down and back would be all. Probably close to $30 per person.

Some couples do a backyard bbq type of thing and just grill out burgers at the pool. Yes some girls go to the spa for the day or do some luxury trip to NYC and spend several hundred but I don't know any of them. Most people get married in their mid20s and most of their friends are poor.

does waimea bay have reef or rocks?

three tables beach oahu image

Jack W

im just wondering.

Answer
Waimea Bay is located in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oâahu in the Hawaiian Islands at the mouth of the Waimea River. Waimea Valley extends behind Waimea Bay. Waimea means "Red Water" in Hawaiian.

Captain Clerke aboard HMS Resolution stopped at Waimea Bay on 28 February 1779. Clerke had shortly before taken command of the ship after Capt. James Cook was killed at Kealakekua Bay on 14 February. Waimea Bay was the only Oâahu anchorage visited by the expedition. Waimea Valley was densely populated at the time, and the remains of a Puâu o Mahuka, an important heiau (Hawaiian temple) can still be seen above the bay. Puâu o Mahuka can be visited by driving up Pupukea Road and taking the first right through the cattle guard. A short hike down the hill brings you to a spectacular view Waimea Bay and the North Shore towards the Waiâanae Mountain range.

In winter, Waimea and other North Shore locations such as Pipeline and Sunset Beach host a number of surfing contests because of the large waves found here. These waves are created by winter storms in the North Pacific, and their arrival on Oâahu's North Shore are typically forecast accurately several days in advance. In summer, Waimea typically has clear and calm water.

The surf break at Waimea Bay was significant in the development of Big wave surfing. Larger surf at the bay went unridden for years until November 7, 1957 [1] when a handful of surfers finally paddled out and rode the giant waves that break off the northern point of the bay. While the surf only breaks big several times a year, Waimea was the most prestigious big wave surf break in the world for decades. With the advent of tow-in surfing, more and more big wave breaks have been discovered that are far superior in quality than Waimea. However, the bay still holds a significant place even in today's world of big wave surfing.

The well known Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational in Memory of Eddie Aikau takes place in this point to honour the legendary surfer and the first lifeguard of the North Shore of Oahu. Since its inception in 1984, the tournament has only been held seven times, due to a precondition that there be waves at least 20 feet high at Waimea Bay. The most recent tournament was in December 2004, when waves in the bay reached 30 to 50 feet high.

In Summer, Waimea Bay is a playground of fun for freedivers, S.C.U.B.A. divers, and those who desire to jump off "da Big Rock" or "Jump Rock" - a rock that is perfectly positioned in the bay (for use at your own risk!). You can also find rock climbers practicing their skills on the cliff and in the dry cave on the beach. The Bay- as well as Three Tables, Pupukea, & Shark's Cove- are protected waters. The diversity of life in these waters is astounding.

There are other locations named Waimea in the Hawaiian islands. Waimea, Kauai & Waimea, Hawaii (Big Island)

Waimea Bay is one of the filming locations used for the television series Lost, which is an American drama-adventure television series surrounding the survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious tropical island. (The location of the downed plane - not there anymore - is Mokuleia at the end of Dillingham airstrip almost to road's end at Ka Ena Point.)

Answer
depending on which island you're on i can give you advice for two....

Oahu----- i highly recommend that you not stay in Honolulu....but do visit and experience it once in the day and once at night(they have entertainers....i.e. gold man silver man money man and when i went there was a college student dressed up like a panda....all want your money but it's a rele good photo opportunity.the college student took pictures with kid but he needed money for college) if you like oriental food you can't get any closer to Asia in Hawaii....a rele good restaurant is the Golden Phoenix 429 Keawe St
Honolulu, HI 96813, US and another one was Pearl City Chinese Restaurant 803 Kamehameha Hwy # 203, Pearl City, HI
808-455-1066

but there are other things to do....you must rent snorkeling gear and go snorkeling at three tables....down the road is shark's cove(don't worry)

free up one day and just drive around the island don't worry about getting lost you'll find awesome stuff the worst thing to do in hawaii is be a haole(white tourist who took the native's land away for them) talk to the local they're rele nice experience the culture

then go to the far side of the island and go on a glider ride you'll get a perfect skyline of the ocean and mountains....at dillingham ariport(mr. bill's origional glider ride...)PO Box 626
Waialua, HI 96791
(808) 677-3404

and honestly the only thing i did when i was on the big island was go up in the mountains to the volcano do that at night and during the day...but i recconmmend that you go during the night at first so you can compare and contrast the difference....it's amazing.... and if you get a chance check out the black sand beaches....and if you're a hiker you can also get to enjoy one of the only GREEN sand beaches but it's either a 5 mile hike or you need a REAL off roader.... and i'm serious it's not a pretty little path ....uneven

How to pack for camping and have everything organized?

camping kitchen table collapsible on antique folding camp table, antique folding camp table Manufacturers ...

we enjoy the outdoors and camping, we have bought many items during the years and now we have many things, and they get everywhere in the car during the trip. How do you pack kitchen items: paper plates, utensils, paper towel? bed items (they are bulky)? mosquito repellent bottles ( they love me )I usually put kitchen stuff in a plastic container, but to reach the bottom I have to take everything on top. Any creative ideas? tips? I may buy a space saver bag for the bedding, has anybody tried that.

Answer
For car-camping I use a medium-size Rubbermaid Action Packer bin with sheets of plastic (lexan? stuff from Home Depot) cut into 11" tall dividers and duct-taped into place for my kitchen box. There's room in the box for my pots and pans, three propane canisters, plastic plates and bowels, napkins, trash bags and space for most of my dry foods. On the very top I lay my large griddle, cutting board, campfire grate, collapsible sink, axe, folding saw and 1/2 rolls of paper towels. I have a mesh organizer I made myself and screwed to the inside of the bin's lid to hold my cooking and eating utensils.

I can then strap my Coleman stove and el-cheapo propane grill on top of this. When I get to camp, all the stuff on the top of the bin comes out and generally stays out until it's time to pack-up and go, and the stuff underneath is stored vertically instead of flat, so there's no digging for buried items. The lid, with the utensils attached, also comes out and stays on the mesh shelf under my camp kitchen unit (small folding table with grill shelf).

Generally speaking, each person -- child or adult -- is responsible for carrying their own clothing and sleeping kit. All our sleeping bags compress well into their stuff sacks, and we use self-inflating mattresses that also roll-up tight. The sleeping bags go inside each person's duffel bag or backpack on top of their clothing and personal items, and the mattress gets strapped outside to the top or side. Clothing is organized into dry bags to protect from any weather or mishaps, and for organization. We also use one of the drybags full of clothes with a pillow case instead of a pillow. Each person is also responsible for their own toiletries, which go in a small nylon bag stored the outside pocket of the duffel bag or backpack, along with sun block, insect repellent, flashlight or headlight with extra batteries.

If you are using regular bedding you'll find that sleeping bags will take a lot less space and weight, particularly if you use a compression bag (just remember to loosen the compression bag during storage at home so the insulation doesn't go flat). Our bags compress down to about 9x12". As mentioned above, we put a pillow case over our clothing's dry bags to use as a pillow, or you can get inflatable pillows. Also, camp towels or large "Sham Wow" type towels take up much less room than regular household towels but work just as well, and dry more quickly.

The tent, 2 LED lanterns, 2 bag chairs, roll-up table, dining tarp with poles go into one large duffel. This sometimes leaves one or two loose chairs to sling over your shoulder.

If necessary, I can stack the two coolers, Rubbermaid bin, stove and grill onto a folding luggage cart and drag it to the campsite on one trip, then return and strap the water container, large duffel, and camp kitchen to the cart for my second trip.

What kinds of food should I bring camping with me?

going camping for the first time alone with my bf and this is our first time going with out our parents or family.

Answer
Assuming TENT CAMPING! If you are taking a Trailer/RV you can take just about anything you desire!

Short trip car> Bread, Peanut butter and jelly, canned stew and vegetables, tea/instant coffee, at least 2 gallons of drinking water, grate/grill for cooking over fire, Kitchen matches with the striker from the box in a plastic bag to protect from moisture, Instant potatoes, box Macaroni & Cheese, Canned Baked Beans. Instant Oatmeal in whatever flavors you desire. Salt and pepper in sealed plastic containers, Sugar and /or any other seasonings likewise in sealed containers. A coffee pot, for heating water for coffee or tea. Anything else you like, which does not absolutely require refrigeration. Ice chest and camp stove are optional but highly recommended! Cold Soda or beer is definitely a plus!

Longer trip car> Ice chest and camp stove become mandatory! But that also allows more flexibility in meal plans, with ice chest and stove you can take eggs, butter and milk to prepare a more traditional breakfast including if you desire Bacon! You can also take steak and other meats to grill ( do not forget to take suitable seasonings!) and if space permits a large cast griddle or fry pan you can take pancake mix (requires egg and milk, and do not forget the spatula!) Take along 2, 10 quart metal buckets to be your wash basins and I recommend Dawn brand dish soap and Scotch Bright Pads to clean up those greasy pots and pans. At least 2 flat hot pads and an oven glove. Durable plastic plates and glasses, and plastic insulated mugs and a set of flatware including a sharp (steak) knife for each person and serving spoons and forks.

Other important items: You will need a multi-purpose pocket knife ( Swiss Army style - not necessarily brand - and make sure it is SHARP and well lubricated ) Trash Bags. A 6 way screwdriver, a small hatchet with sheath, Take lots of 5/32" nylon line and a couple of pocket lighters when you cut a length of the line seal the end with the lighter so it will not fray. A pack of thumb size candles for fire starting. Pocket Flashlights.

A table lantern - Colman White Gas AKA "Camp Fuel" lantern or battery - Coleman Lanterns last forever and produce vast amounts of bright white light, but they require a steady supply of fuel, Mantels and the occasional replacement Generator and Globe, if you choose the Coleman Lantern be sure to practice lighting it several times during daylight in an outdoor location well away from anything flammable and NEVER EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT LIGHTING IT INSIDE OF YOUR TENT OR ANY OTHER STRUCTURE!!!!!)

Take about twice as many towels as you might want at first thought, 1 wash cloth per person plus 1 dish cloth are sufficient. Pack large zip-lock bags to carry wet clothing / swimwear in.
Collapsible Chairs and camp stools are great but don't break the bank to buy them for your first trip.

Take Clothing suitable for Winter and Rainy Conditions in the area where you will be camping! (Ponchos! And heavy coats! ) Nothing worse than getting frozen stiff because the weatherman blew it! This includes a Knit Cap which covers your ears if the temperature could possibly fall below 50 Degrees F!

Take good warm sleeping bags (rated ZERO Degrees F ) which can be joined together and AIR MATTRESSES! One for each person and a SPARE! Do not even think about camping without air mattresses!

Please plan on purchasing your firewood where you camp to avoid moving around BAD Insects! Take newspaper in a plastic bag for fire starting too.

If Space and Funds permit a set of poles and a camp Fly (10'X10' Tarp) are very desirable to keep the table area dry in the event of rain ( minimum 6 poles and a dozen 14' long lines, stakes, S-Hooks and O-rings - the O-ring prevents sharp edges on the Stake from damaging the line and the S-Hook makes it real easy to attach to the tarp eyes.

Proper equipment and preparation make all the difference between comfortably riding out the storm when camping and being cold wet and miserable when the unexpected .

Have Fun!

What pool-like game has poles coming out of the table?

camping table with hole image

Aidan

When i was younger at my summer camp there used to be a game room. In the room there was this pool-like game that included pool sticks and a felt covered table except smaller. On the table there were these little pole like structures maybe 5 of 6 of them and then there was 2 holes on either end. From what i can remember the poles were red and white and so were the balls. What the game is actually like may very from this. The balls and poles may not be red and white but thats what i remember from it and there may have been more than those two holes.

Answer
You are right. There were two holes.
You had to bank your balls off the side cushion toward the opponent's hole and he did the same toward your hole.
The player that pocketed all their balls was the winner.
Check out any Establishment that sells Billiard equipment, pool tables, etc. and they should have one on display. Called "Bumper Pool table."
If not they can show you one from their catalogs.

Where to go camping inexpensively and without a car near NYC?

km1312

Need a fairly cheap tent campground with basic bathroom and drinking water facilities near hiking trail(s). Looking to head there Friday evening after work and return Sunday evening on a train and/or bus.

Thanks!

Answer
Floyd Bennett Field
Manhattanites have always considered Brooklyn to be something of a wilderness, but it may still come as a surprise to learn that you can actually camp thereâand weâre not talking about sleeping on the sidewalk. This abandoned-airport-turned-national-park in Marine Park has room for about 100 campers, each site with a fire pit and picnic tableâand not much else. (It may be the only place in New York City where holes in the ground are considered acceptable bathroom facilities.) Itâs a little slice of serenityâ¦with bonus noise from JFK-bound planes that occasionally fly nearby!
Price: $50 per campsite for a three-night stay.
Getting there: Take the 2 or 5 train (at rush hour) to Flatbush Avenue and transfer to the Rockaway Parkâbound Q35 bus. Call 718-338-3799 for reservations.

How do i make an outdoor fort?

folding outdoor on folding chair metal canvas portable outdoor
folding outdoor image

Jenny W

I want to make an outdoor fort that is like a tree house only without the tree. I have an area on the side of my house that would be perfect. I was thinking I could put in fold out wooden platforms on the walls for sleeping bags so my kids could have sleepovers in there.

any ideas or tips??
I'm planning on buying wood and spending about 100 dollars or as little as possible.

Answer
Step 1
Collect cardboard material for the fort's walls. You need to make sure the cardboard is large and thick. The cardboard box that a large appliance, like a refrigerator, was packaged in is a good choice.

Step 2
Measure and cut the pieces based on the size of fort you'd like. If you want to fit more people in the fort, then of course you're going to need to make it larger. A fort that's just for you only needs to be about 6- or 7-feet long. The top and the two side walls of your fort need to be the same size. The end pieces of your cardboard outdoor fort should have the same dimensions.

Step 3
Cut out a door and windows. Make sure you cut a notch at the bottom of the door so that it can open and close easily over grass. Tape all the pieces together with sturdy tape. Use markers and crayons to decorate the outside of your outdoor fort.

A More Advanced Outdoor Fort

Step 1
Decide the size and location of the outdoor fort. Cut wooden posts or beams in the size of the base of the fort. Use these wooden pieces to create a solid base for your fort by positioning them along the ground in the selected area. Nail plywood to the beams to create the base.

Step 2
Cut the plywood for the walls and the roof. Don't forget to take into consideration where the door and any windows will be.

Step 3
Drill holes in the post or beams of the base. Use them to screw the plywood for the walls to the base. You can reinforce the wall by screwing beams or posts into the base of the outdoor fort and then attaching the plywood to the posts instead of attaching the plywood straight to the base.

Step 4
Construct the roof. It can be flat and doesn't need to be peaked like a house roof. But be sure to put roofing felt and shingles on it.

Step 5
Paint the outside and inside walls of the outdoor fort in whatever colors or patterns you'd like. Take up fabric on the window to act as curtains.

Changing my baby's diaper at the beach/shore?

Eye-V

I have a 4 month old baby(my first) and planning to take her to the beach.
I am going to rent a beach umbrella and probably a long beach chair. Can I change her diaper at the beach? Can I lay her on the beach chair or the beach blanket? Or should go to the public restroom and change the diaper there? Which would be etiquette in public?

Answer
Oh goodness, no need to go into the bathroom. Either change her on the chair or bring a towel along and change her on that. No one is going to care, she's a baby!

We've had to change our son on planes before. We just pulled out the tray tables, put a blanket down, and changed him. Got no second looks or stares. People don't think anything of seeing a baby's privates.

Where can I find beach type centerpieces idea?

Q. Decorating for sisters reception, around 100 people, round tables...need ideas or websites with ideas and pics for ideas, thanks a bunch!

Answer
Best bet...make your own. Use the websites to get ideas, but steal the idea and make your own stuff. It'll be way cheaper, but take up a little more time.

I would be real simple about it too. For example:

Get some sand, little coctail umbrellas, miniature beach balls, doll sized sandle and sunglasses.

Drop the sand in the center of the table, randomly place the other objects to make a tiny little beach in the middle of each table.

If you really wanna be creative, get some tea light candles, place them in the sand (burried, but not covered) and light them as tiki torches. The sand wont burn, so if it gets into the candle wax it'll be fine.

Does this specific case qualify as volunteer work?

I volunteer at my local gamestore (Warhammer, Warmachine, Magic the Gathering, etc...). It is a for profit enterprise but what I do supports the local gamer community and I act as an agent of that community.

I benefit from the work I do in the sense that I may at one day use a piece of terrain I make, but I also do work that I have no way of directly benefiting from like teaching young gamers to paint or play. I have no claim of ownership on anything I make for this. The hallmark of our community is that we are both welcoming and extremely tight knit; when I was injured and needed an absurd volume of blood they raised literally gallons of it, more than I needed, in a blood drive. When I was young and ran out of money and got mono these people took care of me.

What I do helps the store but it also helps the community; without a place to congregate there is no community of this type outside of competitive events. Outside of schools and universities there are a few scant nucleii for communities of this type to form around without game stores. Our player base for warhammer is even an organized group with no store involvement; the work I do is for them. This group has no membership dues or obligations. We are NOT a non-profit and are only organized on the most basic of levels.

I'm considering putting this on a resume, it's not court mandated or up to a defined spec. I think I can justify it from an ethical and moral perspective. I do good for a community without directly profiting myself; I don't get a discount or the occasional "look the other way". My train of thought for this is that a former boyscout may sit on a bench that he built for his Eaglescout rank and not have the community service be revoked; A person may raise funds for their church but that's okay. The store offers tables for free so no one else is making a profit off of my work, at least not directly. The work that I do increases the size and excitement of the community while increasing the drawing power of the store.

I help kids, adults, both occasionally with special needs. I can honestly say I do this for the community; I do this so gamers present and future have an inviting place to simply be. Am I helping the store or am I helping the community? Can it be both? I would appreciate any input on this PLEASE! I reach out because I have a bias that's too ingrained to consciously ignore. Personally, I keep coming back to this quote from John Burroughs, "The smallest deed is better than the greatest intention." Anybody with thoughts or a rebuttal please give me some perspective.

Thank you

Answer
People with disabilities is a 100x better then saying special needs. I have a disability and enjoy games. It help give enjoyment but unless you design games for people with disability which is all different it only helping the store. Unless your giving the games for free. There are many types of disabilities like hearing impair who may speak sign languages.

Best way to get around Europe?

cheap camping tables uk on ... Mosaic Patio Table - Ceramique Natural Stoneware Garden Furniture
cheap camping tables uk image

Peter

I'm aware of the pass called the euro rail pass or globe euro pass something like that..anyways anyone travels to Europe and had the experience with the train systems there and pass? How is it? And is it worth it? My plans are going from Sweden west towards Ireland and hitting countries in between. Any advice?

Answer
It can be worth the money to buy an Eurail Global pass, buy you need to do a lot of train travel to make it work out cheaper to get one over early bought train tickets, or even train tickets bought on the day.

When travelling alone a car will be more expensive, due to rental costs, fuel cost, parking fees and often also road tolls and insurance.
If you can sleep in the car or camp wild you will save on hotel costs and can make up some of the extra cost for the rental.

As I do not have a driving license I do use trains, I might still travel by train as I love it, but once you own a car you will pay the lot on the regular costs and just the petrol/gas will not be that much more than train travel and at times will be less.

Sweden is huge, how much of it you want to see makes a huge impact on your travel plans.
I would try to see at least a bit of countryside and one city there.
Cross over to Denmark, from Malmo there is a bridge, from several other cities there are ferries.
Copenhagen is a fun city, if in a quiet way. Denmark as a country is quite flat but has its own beauty. I just love those long bridges they have between different islands. But there are ferries in other places.
There is even a ferry to England from Denmark.

Otherwise south to Germany. There you have the choice of a whole country, or you can get out pretty soon and turn into the Netherlands, Belgium and France, depending on which connection to the England you take, or whether you want to take the ferry between France and Ireland, bypassing the UK.

The UK is not on the Eurail pass. Train travel is not cheap if you buy tickets on the day. If you can buy your train tickets early you can get good prices, but you do need to plan ahead to get that deal.

Across England and Wales, or up north and maybe even through Scotland and across from there, options enough to cross over.

Hostels are good when you travel alone, as you meet with others who also travel alone. If you do not want to share dorms, they often do private rooms.
But the advantage of a hostel is that you really meet with other guests whereas in hotels you just sit at the next table. Campsites (especially when you travel by car) can be good but it is up to you to make sure you have contacts.
Wild camping, while cheaper, is most likely less social.
Camping and trains to not mix well as you will need a lot of gear and will not have a safe place to store things.

More information on the Eurail pass, and other travel options: http://www.seat61.com/Railpass-and-Eurail-pass-guide.htm If you doubt about the cost compared to point to point tickets, read the third item in the listing in the main text on the page.
If you want to plan train travels, the German planner is a good one, easy to use and knows most of Europe: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/DEU/en/index.shtml
In the UK this one works as well or better, as it also does do coach and buses: http://www.transportdirect.info
I am sure Ireland also has a travel planner, but I do not have it handy.

For car planning Google maps can do the rough work, http://www.viamichelin.com/ will also do road tolls, and has options to work out fuel cost.

If you do have the time, go to the Irish west coast, around Galway for instance, not just stay in Dublin

Working while traveling the UK?

sarah G

I would like to go to the UK as a general visitor or a tourist. I hold a valid Canadian passport and i understand I can be there for 6 months without a visa. I also know I cant work or do a bunch of other things and what not, but I'm wondering if at some point I'm allowed to do like under the table work. Like, I'm a really good server so if a bar is busy and needs a hand for the weekend and agreed to let me stay there, would I be allowed to bargain work for room and board? Or are the british soldiers going to deport me? I think I'll only be in the UK for 4 or 5 months but if I can save money by trading (non-sexual) work or favors that would be epic. thanks for any help or answers :)

Answer
: )

Yes, im afraid the soldiers *will* catch & deport you :(

Ha, no. In reality its unlikely youd be caught; its just unlikely youll find any cash in hand work. As we have a recession on there are likely to be a que of locals there before you who could do casual work. A room for working? Maybe but id think thatd be rare.

There is a legal way, though. Youd have to do abit more work & im never sure if its slave labour or not.. its working on small holdings or organic farms for food & a bed. You can also join time bank & do the same thing though with a little more complexity, as youd be 'banking' time for one person then taking the 'reward' or 'payment' - in your case a room for the night, from usually another.
http://www.wwoof.org.uk/visas_and_immigration however, if you arrange wwoofing (as its known) after entering the country i dont see how theyd find out. I dislike illegal workers bt this is not taking money from anyone so go for it. Its a good thing! Timebank is a bit trickier as there are only a handful of rooms to stay in but its still worth a look.
If you use the forums of sofa surfing &wooff, & also google them to see where theyre mentioned, youll come up with more suggestions.

Ive stayed at campsites for £3-4 a might often, so thats a cheap option. Obviously this is balanced by the hassle of carrying & buying kit, & unless theres a heateave, probably not worth the hassle overall. Rain kind of kills it after a week!

If you stayed for a week in a farming community youd possibly be able to ask around &find work for a bed. Its my impression that would be easier than in towns ( i grew up in the country) tho i could be wrong. Money is tight so it might be more viable, esp as people tend to be a bit more trusting & open than in towns.

Good for you having the balls to be so adventurous, though!! I hitchhike & camp alone &the way some people react youd think i was planning to sunbathe by a crocodile infested river in cannibal country!!
Hitching would cut your costs but its not possible in all areas. The rural area i grew up in was fine for it & still is now, tho im almost the only one (i get a lot of lifts from nostalgic ex hitchers) but i tried it once when stuck somewhere else & eventually found out its never been done there- god knows why. For short local trips i find easier to the shops and back than the bus, but i dont reccomend it long distance. If you do decide be very wary &trust your gut. Noones ever laid a finger on me - ive done it literally thousands if times, &still maintain its safer than a saturday night city centre with drunk blokes groping at you, but always play it safe.
The final option is sofa surfing.

Obviously when staying in a stranger's house just trust your gut. If you approach women and ask for suggestions of someone who might be able to help thatd probably be safest. Everyone thinks the world is terribly dangerous but in reality crime is reasonably static. The news, however, has exploded & gives far more coverage to bad events than ever before, skewing our perception of crime levels. Ive honestly had far more trouble in pubs & town centres on weekend nights fromdrunk blokes than i ever had from my travels (lots of hitching). Ive had a few suggestions which have been really creepy but never felt in danger. Out at night even in small towns had some horrible experiences from drunk blokes, & most women have been at least groped by a drunken stranger- so i think you will be fine. Just take precautions & take care!

Theres an international womens' network which my mum has used when travelling tho im not sure you could join as youre supposed to offer hospitality in return. She stayed for free in other womens' houses (doubtless also recently divorced &up for international travel) & met nice people. Ive had a quick look bit cant find it. Ive also googled free homestay & there are a few things for that- you could offer a bit of babysitting, but id only agree to a few days in case the kids ate awful!! Theres a forum on lonelyplanet so ask for advice there.
Seriously- all the best! Hope you have a cool time. Plan any train trips in advance to book cheap tickets- they get more expensive closer to use. Also book trains and coaches on megabus.com which uses normal trainsbut you can get super cheap tickets long in advance for some routes. Get a good uk travel guide then any regions you like but also dont set your plans too much- serendipity is fun!

What is the difference between reiki end plate and standard end plates on a massage table?

table portable on Portable Table Valet ideal for TV dinners & homework etc
table portable image

pseudonym

I'm looking to get a portable massage table due to I'm just coming out of massage school and I don't know the difference. Could come one describe the difference between the two and if any pros and cons.

Answer
Reiki end plates are an open arch, presumably because a reiki practitioner would be doing more work sitting and want to be able to fit their legs under the table. The standard end plates on a massage table have a sort of decorative cross-piece, which gives them a little bit more stability (which is really only significant if you employ techniques that might mean the table is being subjected to a lot of motion during sessions, like Trager work or anything that requires getting up on the table with the client as in sports massage), but also means that when doing any work sitting down you have to spread your legs around the table to get close enough to the client. It's personal preference, really.

I know that Earthlite has at least one model that you can get with a standard plate on one end of the table and a reiki plate on the other end, for folks who might sometimes want the option.

how to convert a built in sewing machine to a portable?

Tiffany

I have an old singer machine that is in perfect working order. It is built into the table. Is there any way I can convert it to a protable machine? I do not want the table part any more. By removing the table also removes that extention to where the needle is. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can not afford a new machine and the one I have is great but no space for the table.

Answer
I'm not a seamstress so I'm not familiar with the undercarriage stuff such as the bobbin holder, but I have been close enough to table machines to know they are just the same without the fancy undercarriage.

I really don't know what you mean by the place/extension where the needle is, unless it's where the bobbin hardware is located.

If I had a sewing machine repair shop, I have to think I could remove a table machine to repair and test before ever putting it back in the table.

As far as "portable" is concerned, it may never be as pretty as the new 2010 "Wizz Bang Super Sewer", but it may still perform all the functions required.

The issue seems to me to be what dangles, no offense, and by that I mean any moving parts such as the drive belt, etc. You might find that you'll have to invent a kind of base/stand to allow for anything below the main body of the machine so you can place it where ever you wish.

DOC

Added thought though not for the aesthetics. The machine is mounted on a flip up platform I bet, and as such, you might have to Build a framework under the platform to have unrestricted operation of the machine

How would you convince a Nazi death camp commandant that he should stop killing Jews?

Dr. SC1enc

How would you convince a Nazi death camp commandant that he should stop killing Jews SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS WRONG?

For the purposes of answering this question, it is IMPORTANT for you to read and consider the following factual context (PLEASE read it):

(1)The commandant knows that he will suffer no severe negative consequences by refusing to work in the Nazi death camp. He is certain that the higher Nazi authorities will simply transfer him to some other administrative work outside the camp system.

(2)The commandant knows another person will take his place as commandant in the camp, so the killing in the camp will almost certainly continue whether he is there or not.

(3)The commandant knows that if every man in Europe refused to work as a commandant in the Nazi death camps, then there would be no Nazi death camps and no Jews would be murdered in them, and perhaps no Jews would be murdered at all. But he knows it is very unlikely that every man in Europe will refuse to do such work, though, he also knows this scenario is not impossible.

(4)The commandant has no fear of being punished after the war, for the crimes in his Nazi death camp, by the nations which may end up defeating Nazi Germany, since: (a) he considers it a virtual certainty that Germany will win the war, and
(b) he has a foolproof plan to escape to Argentina with a false identity just in case Nazi Germany happens to lose the war.

(5)The commandant has no fear of being punished by God because he thinks God is simply an ancient myth. He has the same regard for Karma.

(6)The commandant expects to benefit financially and to benefit greatly in terms of prestige and career advancement if he continues to serve the Nazis as commandant in the death camp until all the Jews in Europe are dead.

(7)The commandant is already well aware that people who subscribe to conventional morality would be appalled to see this mass murder of Jews in the death camps, and would condemn him if they knew about it, and would try to talk him out of doing it if they had the chance. But the commandant does not subscribe to the conventional morality has been convinced by the Nazi higher morality, according to which:
(a) Might Makes Right (the reverse, that Right Makes Might, is a Jewish idea which has been thorough debunked)
(b) Only the strongest and best humans have a right to existence, a right that is proven and won in struggle with others. Rights that are simply written on paper in government constitutions and government laws have no meaning, do not produce or build anything, don't feed or house anyone, are counterproductive of life, heap unjust burdens on the productive people, are unnatural, and are unsustainable in the long run.
(c ) There isn't room or resources on the planet for every human being, so some must go. It's really just that simple.
(d) In all of Nature there is continuous struggle in which those who are less able to compete must and do die. Human beings are flesh and blood beings which a part of Nature just as much as tigers and gazelles and grass. Angels and gods have never been seen by anyone, and are simply inventions of weak minds.
(e) To coddle, protect, indulge, feed or have mercy on the weak is a Jewish idea which has been a plague on the earth and which has weakened the Aryan race. It was this Jewish idea that led to the defeat of Germany in the war of 1914-1918.
(f) The Jews themselves have committed genocide against other races and nations in the past, as clearly depicted in their Bible. Therefore, they have no right to complain if the tables on turned on them. They have not right to claim that they have a higher morality.
(g)The Jews, though being sub-humans, are living beings, and so are entitled to suffer as little as possible. Therefore, we kill them quickly and painlessly in gas chambers that they think are going to be de-lousing showers. It is all over in a minute or so. The Zykon-B gas works very quickly. We aren't killing them in an inhumane manner, we aren't torturing them the way medieval Catholics and Protestants tortured heretics and witches, at least not in the camps. No Jew is being burned alive, for example.
(h)Everyone dies sooner or later. No one lives for ever. All the Jews that we the Nazis kill in our camps would die sooner or later anyway. We are simply expediting their deaths for the cause of a greater human civilization.
(i)If the Jews weren't so perverted in their minds they would understand what a plague they have been to human civilization. And if they did understand what a plague they have been to human civilization, they would kill themselves for the good of humankind, much in the way some murderers kill themselves after coming to understand the wickedness of the harm they have inflicted on others and realize that they can't ever make amends for what they've done, and cannot change, or cannot ever be redeemed or forgiven.

Answer
I don't know if you could, you have to remember that hitler was the leader, they had to do what he said, so you would have to convince the leader that it was wrong or convince all the soldiers to turn on the bad leader

where is the best place to stay with young children at Disney World?

beach themed end tables image

JazzyKat

We have 2 children aged 3 and 5... I would like to book a vacation to disney (florida)
Where would be the best place for children that age to stay?
I'm not interested in cheap budget hotels, I'd like something nice and fun for the children.
We have never been to disneyland or disney world so I would appreciate any input...

thank you

Answer
I have been to WDW many times with my kids who are now 2 and 5. Just a few observations from my past trips.

The value resorts (the All Stars and Pop Century) have some of the best food choices for kids. Although there are no table service restaurants in these resorts, there is a wider variety of counter service options to choose from. My kids aren't big on chicken fingers, which was pretty much the only kids meal option at Wilderness Lodge ( a Deluxe resort) when we were there a few years ago. We ended up buying my son adult meals just to give him some variety. The downside to the Value resorts is the size of the rooms. They are tiny and they have full size beds, not queen size. Another drawback is the pools. They are large and have plenty of room, but they are not as well themed as the moderate and deluxe resorts, and they do not have slides which is a must-have for my 5 year old.

The moderate resorts have slightly larger rooms, but still no balcony. Food choices are usually okay with a table service restaurant as well as counter service. Our favorite moderate resort with kids is Coronado Springs. They have the best playground at any Disney resort, including the Deluxe resorts. The pool there also has great theming, a water slide, and a decent sized kiddie pool. Caribbean Beach is currently in the process of renovating some of their rooms to Pirates of the Caribbean and Finding Nemo themes. If your kids are into either of those, you could see when those rooms will be available.

Cabins at Fort Wilderness are considered a moderate resort, but is pricier than the other moderates - with good reason. They sleep six comfortably, have a full sized kitchen (making life much easier with picky eaters, not to mention saving you major $$$!), and have the best entertainment options for kids. They offer nightly campfire sing-a-longs, seasonal outdoor movies, wagon & carraige rides, a marina, pony rides, a petting zoo, and several playgrounds. The pools are ho-hum, about what most people have in their own backyards, only larger. However, when we visited Cinderella's Ponies there in November, a Cast Member told us they are beginning a remodel of the pools to include slides and hot tubs.

Since having children, my husband and I have found that the Deluxe resorts are the best choice for us. They are the only resorts that have balconies - great for sipping a glass of wine and having conversation after the babies are asleep. Also, they have the best pools and the best theming throughout. Our kids often don't want to go to the parks because they are having so much fun at the hotel. Animal Kingdom Lodge has a great pool, good food choices, and of course, kids love the animals. If swimming is going to be important to your vacation, then Beach Club or Beach Club Villas is a good choice. It's not just a pool - it's a water park! The pool is zero entry with a sand bottom and has a pirate ship slide. Kids can spend an entire day here with good reason. If you are interested in a real splurge, I really recommend The Contemporary. We stayed there on the concierge level at our last visit and my kids loved it. Nothing compares to being right next to the Magic Kingdom with the monorail running through your hotel. Many people don't feel they get their money's worth from the concierge service, but we really enjoyed it. It was nice to be able to quickly grab breakfast and snacks for the kids, and complimentary wine & cocktails for adults in the evenings. Even though it's going to be out of our price range for most trips, The Contemporary is our favorite hotel so far. Keep in mind, though, that the theming is not as kid-friendy as the other Deluxes. Despite a limited kids menu, my son loved Wilderness Lodge - a geyser erupts every hour and a stream runs through the lobby out to the pool. Without the monorail, The Contemporary couldn't compete with that!

You may also want to check out some of the Vacation Club properties. They can be expensive, but they will give you more room to spread out. The only one I have personally experienced is Beach Club Villas. We were upgraded from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom and had a great stay. They come with a full kitchen & a washer/dryer which is a great help when packing light & travelling with kids.

Planning a Disney trip can be time-consuming as well as overwhelming. I hope I have helped you a little. You can get great info from www.allearsnet.com. They have pictures of all the resorts, as well as menus from all the restaurants. Good Luck!

what are good things to have at a sweet sixteen party?

Krista Bar

i want it to be big!
like i heard a chocolate foutain is good but what else?
my theme is beach.
helpp!!!

Answer
A chocolate fountain is always good, make sure you have a lot of things to dip in it, including fresh fruit, cookies, marshmallows, donuts, and graham crackers. Since your theme is beach, if you can afford it I think it would be cool to have a whole bunch of sand brought in to your venue so you have a sandy area. Include beach balls and things like that. Huge palm trees would be a nice decorating touch, you can get either the inflatable ones or the ones made out of lights. Tiki torches will add to the beach theme. If you are having it at the beach or if part of it is going to be outside, you can set up a volleyball and badminton net, have a frisbee and football to throw around, and have water balloons and water guns. You could have a bikini contest for the ladies, and a best chest competition for the guys. White and blue Christmas lights strung up will give a nice effect when it gets dark, and you could have balloons and streamer in colors that go with your theme as well. Get a huge cake made to look like a beach. For my sixth birthday I had one done that had half sand and half ocean, and it looked really good. You want to have a lot of snacks and appetizers. The basic ones are chips and dip, mozzarella sticks, cheese quesadillas with sour cream and guacamole, pigs in a blanket, and potato skins. Some other ideas are trail mix, popcorn, and mixed nuts. If your party is outside you could have a bonfire and make s'mores. Pizza is the best way to go for dinner because everyone likes it.You could also include some buffet style foods like macaroni and cheese and lasagna. For desserts other than cake, I would suggest an assortment of cookies and candy, and you could do mini cupcakes or an ice cream sundae bar as well. One things that can make a party stand out is party favors. You can give everyone cute bags that match your theme and fill them with candy, flower leis, tropical colored nail polish and chunky jewelry, beach themed lotion, candles and room incense, a beach ball not yet inflated, a beach themed movie, a mini water gun, a mixed cd with beach themed songs, and things like that. Obviously some of the items are for girls only, but you can make separate bags for the girls and guys. If you can afford it, you could have t shirts printed that have your name, the name of your party, and the date on them for everyone to keep as a party favor also. You could consider renting a photo booth for everyone to get their pictures taken in, or an ice sculpture of a dolphin or the ocean or something similar. Anything big and bold will really set your party apart from others. Make sure you have a lot of great music that everyone will enjoy, and if you have part of your party inside with a dance floor, include a disco ball, strobe lights, and maybe even a fog machine. You could give everyone glow sticks and glow bracelets to wear at that time as well. Whatever you end up doing, make sure you stick to your theme. If you make mini cupcakes, have the icing be blue and have a topper on them that is ocean or beach themed. On the tables you could have blue and white table cloths, and then have a centerpiece on the table that is beach themed, along with beach themed confetti. Another great idea is to have a disposable camera at each table. That way, guests can take pictures throughout the night on those, and you will have some interesting pictures to develop. One other thing you could consider doing is having a picture of you framed in white matte board, and having everyone that comes to the party sign it. Good luck and have a great time!

What is the best method of staining wood?

kitchen benches with tables on Kitchen Tables for Small Spaces | Lucite Table Shop
kitchen benches with tables image

ktharris28

I just bought a kitchen table, four chairs, and a bench, all unfinished. I have never stained unfinished wood before. The type of wood is parawood. I've been told it is a "hard" wood and does not need any conditioning or pretreating before the stain is applied. Any tips or suggestions? TIA!

Answer
Sand it first. Those unfinished furniture places don't do a good job sanding. Wipe it down with a 'tack cloth'.

When you apply the stain, it doesn't matter how you put it on. The wood will only soak up as much as it will soak up. Wipe off excess before it dries. The longer the stain stays pooled in cracks and corners, the more will be absorbed in those places.

Lightly sand after stain has dried (24 hrs) with the highest grit paper you can get. (at least 220). Wipe with tack cloth.

Apply polyurethane. When it dries, rub it down with steel wool. The finer the grade, the better. Apply more poly.

The reason that you have to sand and use steel wool is that staining will raise the grain and make it rough. The poly will leave air bubbles and trap dust. The steel wool will smooth these out.

How tall should a kitchen chair be?

Sockfinder

I would love to use two benches (below) with cushions on them, but are they too short? I will be using a standard sized kitchen table. The benches are 16" in height.
( http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&navAction=jump&id=17093501&search=true&isProduct=true&parentid=SEARCH+RESULTS&color=000 )

Thanks!

Answer
Standard kitchen tables are 30 inches high. standard chairs are 18 - 19 inches. The skirt board that goes around the bottom of the table top varies with manufactures, and effects leg room. Average leg room needed is 8 inches. Measure this from top of chair seat to bottom of skirting. Don't forget cushion thickness, as you need the 8 inches to top of cushion, if you use cushions on top of chairs.

What are good foods to serve at a first birthday party?

beach centerpieces for tables on beach ball party, beach party decorations
beach centerpieces for tables image

Kayla S

My daughter's first birthday will be next month, and I'm working on a menu of foods to serve...but I'm stuck. Any good suggestions? Thanks!
My daughter will probably be the only baby, and the youngest kid will be like 6. So, I will just feed my daughter what she would normally eat for dinner, but I need to figure out what to feed the guests.

Answer
Well, it depends in part on who's coming (what ages), how many people, and what time of day, of course. Indoor or outdoor? Sit-down meal? Buffet? Appetizers and finger foods only? Of course you'll have birthday cake!

I always like to start with a theme. That helps me to focus a bit more (and narrow the choices a bit)! We had a bunny and snowflake theme for my daughter's first birthday (in December). The color scheme was pink, teal and white. Honestly, I no longer remember what food I served (it was almost 10 years ago), but I can still visualize the sheetcake I made, decorated with pink frosting an a "Pat the Bunny" picture.

Does your daughter have a favorite stuffed animal or toy? Do you have a decoration theme or color scheme in your daughter's room that you want to carry over to the party?

Here's how my mind would work: Hmmmm ... it's going to be fall, leaves will be turning. I like light browns and yellow and green and red ... hmmm ... she likes her teddy bears ... we can do a Teddy Bear Picnic theme! I'll put some teddy bears on the table as a centerpiece. Get some cheap checkered tablecloths. Picnic baskets as decorations. Fill with practical stuff (for example plastic silverware and napkins) or fill with cute stuff (more teddybears). Food will now be a picnic theme. Some possibilities include cold fried chicken, cute little sandwiches cut into triangles, or maybe one of those huge submarine sandwiches that serve a whole bunch of people, a pasta salad on the side, chips / pretzels, veggies and dip. A bowl of Teddy Grahams and/or a bowl of Gummi Bears for munching (although you will probably want to keep them out of reach of the youngest ones). Decorate with cutout fall leaves. Maybe use maple frosting on the cake. For the youngest ones, just pick their favorite food. If you can make it fit with the them, great. If not, it doesn't matter (they won't totally get the theme idea anyway). Make or buy a cake that fits the theme, and let the birthday girl dig in with her hands after you sing happy birthday!

I used to throw themed birthday parties for both my kids, and I swear I had as much fun planning them as they had enjoying them! I've done a dinosaur theme, a bug theme, a teddy bear beach party, a luau, a Harry Potter / Hogwarts theme, a Knights and Princesses theme, horses, gingerbread houses, Winnie-the-Pooh ... just to make a few!!

There are really a million possibilities regarding menu choices. If you have ideas for a theme, or guidance as to the type of meal and ages of guests, I'd be happy to try to think up some ideas.

Oh ... and if you need ideas for crafts or activities or party hand-outs for the kids attending, I'd be glad to help you think of ideas for those as well. Just need to know about how many kids, what ages, boys or girls.

:-)

how do you dress up these two coffee tables for the summer?

It will be very helpful if you can show me some pictures. Thank you!

Answer
Some really simple ones would be glass containers with some sand or small pebbles and a tea light. This isn't really a good picture, but you get the idea. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl2/1/15259/22_2009/10ac9625b5c8182b_candle.xxlarge.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.yumsugar.com/Elegant-Summer-Centerpiece-Beach-Inspired-Votive-Candles-3203169&usg=__5-8mKdG7c9CbFf16M10dxrXNRL8=&h=500&w=375&sz=40&hl=en&start=15&sig2=rscMuxbjRQ5bEsKEzuyAaQ&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=rIPlKTbLJARaZM:&tbnh=130&tbnw=98&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsummer%2Bcenter%2Bpiece%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1T4GGLJ_enUS313US313%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=Km8iTIPjN8HflgevzsTuBA

Or you can make them beachy. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3645/3606704941_7329a98833.jpg&imgrefurl=http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/2009/06/summer-sea-shell-centerpiece.html&usg=__L8HTqJCzAaZHdm-WlE-TAJk5SoM=&h=333&w=500&sz=109&hl=en&start=22&sig2=2crmIVOHVkDBOXCgF7pDtA&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=OSu9bE0f-SIxeM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsummer%2Bcenterpiece%26start%3D18%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1T4GGLJ_enUS313US313%26ndsp%3D18%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=vW8iTPWME4KglAefp8jpBA

How to throw a huge Project x party?

camping table big 5 on CAMPING THE WHITE MOUNTAINS OF NH: Basin Campground
camping table big 5 image

Jean

I live in a rural area and have a lot of land. Im 16. I'm far away from neighbors. I have about 7 acres. I consulted my mom and she approved. I want to throw a huge party with at least 300 people. I am pretty sure I'd be okay with law enforcement on the count of no noise complaints from neighbors being far away. There might be some underage drinking so I was thinking to have a form minors have to sign in order to drink so they couldn't get back at me for that. I was thinking to hire a dj. Have a huge area for camping. A bonfire. A few security guards. A bunch of water balloons and a slip and slide because I don't own a pool. Have the house only be open for restroom reasons and indoor activities like dancing games and karaoke (living room mainly). Lock all bedrooms. People clock their belongings in their tents, cars, or the bedrooms s their safe. If anyone wanted to fight someone I'd have my security break it up. No firearms or weapons of any sort will be allowed. Have a bunch of decorations like balloons and what not. Maybe have a live bnd play. My side yard will be designated for parking and I'd have a parking director outside. All food and beverages will be on the back deck on a party table. I want to make sure I have things set and ready for the most worse cases. Does this sound good to you guys? Should I think about more things? Any ideas? Just want to have a party that will sky rocket my reputation. I'm going to a vocational school and I'll invite people from there and from my home school and they can bring people. There will be no destroying of property and that will result in discharge of the party. Im sure with that many people, thre will be someone who will bring illegal drugs (I personally don't do anything, but I won't stop them.) people will not be permitted to leave if they are too drunk or tired to drive, they will be forced to camp or have someone pick them up. All valuables will be locked and stored away properly. My moms boyfriend is a firefighter and could help if they party is out of control or the bonfire gets out of hand. People will be notified what the boundary of the propery is and there will be posted signs. The animals will be kept inside away from guests. There might possibly be two fires since the yard is rather large nd there will be a lot of people. I'm hiking a normal fire up front and a bigger fire out back. There will be trash cans everywhere (though people usually throw stuff on the ground) but for easier clean up. I'm sure people will be hooking up, they can do whatever thy want in their tnts, that's not my business. There will beva olleyball net set up for people to play some games if they want. Food and beverages will be provided. People will be notified that there could be drinking. Neighbors will be notified that there could be some noise since I'm far away but close enough to see their houses. There may be fireworks. I just want to make sure this is a party they won't forget. Thanks for your response.

Answer
This sounds AMAZING! I'm so jealous! Here's a few tips:

1) If you plan on 300 people, only invite 250. When people realise you're having such a huge party, they'll tell their friends and also bring people along with them!

2) Get twice as much food and drink as you think you'll need! If I was you I wouldn't supply alcohol for anyone apart from you and your close friends because if your mom gets charged with 300 counts of supplying alcohol to minors I can guarantee you'll never be allowed another party.

3) Be prepared for gatecrashers. People that force their way into parties aren't known for being polite, so get ready for foul language and possibly violence. I'd let your security know the second you see someone you don't want in your home.

4) When it's time for the fireworks, make sure there's no drunk people fumbling about with matches and explosives. Also, it's cool that your mom's boyfriend is a fireman because it would be a good idea to have him in charge of lighting the fireworks and making sure the bonfires stay under control.

5) Have a well-stocked First Aid kit in reach, because with such a big party, fights and accidents are bound to happen!

Most importantly, have fun! I've thrown a few parties, but at my first I was a nervous wreck! I was constantly running about checking that people were enjoying themselves that I forgot to enjoy it myself.

Where Should We Go To Dinner In Great Lakes IL?

Q. My Boyfriend Is Going 2 be graduating from navy boot camp and i was wondering where we should go eat? So Any Suggestions?

Answer
Bacci's Trattoria
30 North Genesee, Waukegan, Illinois 60085
Telephone: 847 623 3121
Lunch Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Dinner Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Evening reservations recommended.

**This place not only has a great menu of Italian dishes, the steaks and mushroom appetizer is not to be missed!

Here is a rundown of the rest of the places you could go:

Right by the Great Lakes base area itself (North Chicago), there is absolutely NOTHING!
Lake Bluff is no better, 1 mile to the south, so donât waste you time looking.

Waukegan (1-2 miles) has the best nearby options:
⢠Tacos Del Rey De Oro- easily the best Mexican food in the area
⢠The Dog House- for great diner style food and hot dogs
⢠Hussies â Great bar to drink and great bar food (Big pub style burgers etc.)
⢠Quonset- A decent thin crust pizza place
⢠Lenoâs Subs- great subs and sandwiches

Gurnee (6 Miles northwest)
⢠Monkey Dish is new â I havenât been yet, but Iâm told it OK
⢠Giordanoâs Pizza: the best deep dish pizza available in Lake County
⢠Backyard Steak pit â good steak- really nice onion ring loaf - ala Hackneys style
⢠Ichiban- a decent Japanese steakhouse (cook at your table place), its been here for years and is showing serious signs of wear and tear not pretty but tasty.
⢠Kaiser Pizza - Gurnee (for burgers and decent thin pizza)
⢠Lou Malnattis â also very good deep dish Pizza, but its take out only at this location.
⢠Almost every known US chain â Unoâs, Applebee, Ruby Tuesday, Olive Garden, and the list goes on and on.

Lake Villa and Round Lake (10 miles northwest)
⢠Scott Dogs: Great hot burgers etc, but itâs the Argentinean empanadasâ, flank steak and chef made soups that really shine here.
⢠Lomeli's Rotisseria - Round Lake (excellent Mexican food- grilled/rotisserie chicken & outstanding burritos and tacos)

Libertyville, Vernon Hills and Mundelein (8-10 miles west)
⢠Tsukasa â Vernon Hills is the best Japanese steakhouse in the area
⢠Mickey Finns â Best burgers in Chicago, everything else on the menu is decent.
⢠Frank's for the Memories- Mundelein (best wings this side of Buffalo)

IMO: Places here are starting to get to the edge of too far for âlocalâ but offer a great many excellent options:
Lake Forest, Highland Park and Highwood (15-20 miles south), Wheeling (20 miles southwest) and Kenosha, WI 15-20 Miles North. If youâre interested in driving, this far just let us know and many of can reel off lists that would make your head spin!

DO NOT GO TO:
⢠Ginoâs East in Libertyville
⢠El Norte â Gurnee location

Will you all please help me with the wording for our wedding invitations?

mandygb198

We are having some trouble thinking of the best way to do our wording for our wedding invitations. Let me give you a little backgroud info on us so you can see why: We have known each other for 11 years and together for 8 years. We are both close to each others families. We have a 2.5 year old daughter. Built a new home last July. Our wedding has been put off for so many years because of so many unfortunate events such as car accidents, deployments, health and so on... and its FINALLY happening! Its very emotional for us and our families since its been a long time coming for us and we have been through so much. We are thrilled our day is coming soon and we can now exchange vows in our christian ceremony and have our Luau celebration reception!

We are having a Luau wedding. With the live band, dancers, feast, tiki bar and all. Its in the evening (6pm) And it will take place at his parents house in the country. They have acres and acres, beautiful pond, greenery and flowers everywhere. Also a nice firepit. We will also have papern lantern above, white lights wrapping the trees, tiki torches everywhere. All these things are being borrowed from family and we are doing a BBQ potluck. The band and dancers are free as well as I am on of the dancers in the group since I was 7. So the only money we are spending is on table, chair and linen rentals. The bar is a partial host. We are buying, but charging $1 each.

I am in a beach dress and he is wearing a white button up with khaki shorts. Us both in flip flops. Its going to be super laid back, casual and fun. And I want our guests to know that! They can be in coconut bras for all I care. I just want to marry the man I love and have a great time with those closest to us.

What we are struggling on is we want it to be kinda unique and to fit the evening. And because of our history, most of what I find on here is not appropriate for us. So if any of you could be so kind as to help or give any ideas, we would greatly appreciate it so much! Thanks to all in advance! :)

God has blessed me in so many ways! I am ever so greatful for my life...

P.S. I am asking polietly for those of you who feel the need to... to NOT give opinions on my life or what we are doing and why. If you are not here to answer the REAL question, please go answer someone elses. Thank you.

Answer
Hi there,
I'm sorry for the answers you've had so far - some people obviously have nothing better to do :)
I am a wedding stationer and I hope I can help you with some wording examples. I would start by sitting down and thinking of everything that you really want to say. I can already see you're good at that - and if you want to include a personal statement ("God has blessed me in so many ways! I am ever so grateful for my life...") then go for it - its your invite and it should come from the heart.

As long as your invitation includes all essential information â the names of those getting married, the date, the time and venue â you can write anything you like! Try not to worry about what to write â as long as itâs from the heart, itâll be great! Here's some templates you could start with:

Please join
Georgina Claire Smith
and
Stephen Aaron Jones
as they exchange marriage vows
and together with their daughter, Hannah, celebrate their family
at an evening ceremony
on Saturday, the fourth of May 2009
at one oâclock
at St. Marieâs Church, Rugby
followed by a fun, laid-back reception at Brownsover Hall
Coconut bras optional!

Please join
Georgina Claire Smith
and
Stephen Aaron Jones
as they exchange marriage vows
at an evening ceremony
on Saturday, the fourth of May 2009
at one oâclock
at Brownsover Hall Hotel
Fun and merriment will follow the ceremony.
God has blessed us and we want you to help us celebrate!

At last!
Please join us
for a celebration of love, friendship, laughter and family
as Georgina Claire Smith
and
Stephen Aaron Jones
join hands in holy matrimony
in a moonlit ceremony

Please join us
as we celebrate new beginnings, new dreams and new love
at the marriage of

Georgina Claire
&
Mr. Stephen Aaron Jones

With joy in our hearts, we,
Georgina Smith
and
Stephen Jones
request the honour of your presence
as we exchange marriage vows
and, along with our amazing family and our beautiful daughter celebrate our new life together
The ceremony will be followed by a casual reception
including live band, dancers and tiki bar.

Hope that helps with a starting point for you. More ideas on my blog if you need them.
Enjoy your big day, it sounds like it will be wonderful, and well-deserved x
