Ive looked at urban, wet seal, starbucks all take 18.
I know barnes and noble takes 16 17 wiht work permit but i really kind of dont want to work there.
Are there any other places that might take a 16 17 year old to work??

Answer
Ages 16 and 17
The only occupational restrictions for 16- and 17-year-olds are the 17 Hazardous Occupations. They apply either on an industry-wide basis, with exceptions for specific occupations, or on an occupational basis, regardless of the industry in which the occupations are found. There are no exceptions to ten of the H.O.s, while seven of them, which will be noted, do permit 16- and 17-year-olds to engage in the activity if they are bona fide student learners or apprentices. Only those H.O.s which are most frequently violated or pose special interpretation problems will be discussed in detail here, although all will be listed.

There are no exceptions to the following ten H.O.s, which means that they are prohibited for all 16- and 17-year-olds.

1. Manufacturing and storing explosives.

2. Motor vehicle driver and outside helper. However, this restriction does not bar 16- and 17-year-olds from car and small (under 6,000 pounds) truck driving, when it is "occasional and incidental" to the youth's employment, and then only during daylight hours, and not including any towing of vehicles. This eliminates all jobs that require either driving for deliveries, errands, and pick-ups, and all jobs as the assistant for such activities, even if the young worker never takes the wheel. The law (and the documented experience of a very high rate of adolescent injuries) considers a job consisting of pulling over on public roads, clogged urban streets, or at transportation bays to load and unload from delivery trucks or driving for perhaps a ten-hour day, to be an extremely hazardous activity, quite different in kind and in result from young people's recreational use of their own cars.

3. Coal mining.

4. Mining other than coal mining.

5. Logging and sawmilling, although 16- and 17-year-olds may work in the offices or in repair or maintenance shops or logging camps of such operations.

6. Jobs involving exposure to radioactive substances and ionizing radiations.

7. Operating, riding or assisting on power-driven hoisting apparatus, including elevators and work that involves riding on a manlift or on an unattended freight elevator, except that operating an unattended automatic passenger elevator is permitted.

8. Operating, assisting, setting up, adjusting, repairing or cleaning power-driven bakery machines, including dough mixers, most commonly used in commercial pizza restaurants, as was previously discussed.

9. Manufacturing brick, tile or like product, except for work in the offices of such an establishment.

10. Wrecking, demolition, and shipbreaking, including cleanup and salvage work (and also including all such activities at the site of a total or partial razing), demolishing or dismantling of a building, structure, ship, or any other vessel. This bars 16- and 17-year-olds from working on the site of construction activities that involve wrecking or demolition, but not from otherwise permitted jobs at construction sites in general.

The next group of H.O.s permit 16- and 17-year-old certified student learners and enrolled apprentices to perform the activity, but all other 16- and 17-year-olds are restricted.

11. Operating, setting up, adjusting, repairing or cleaning power-driven woodworking machines, including bearing or removing any material or refuse directly from a saw table or the point of operation.

12. Operating, assisting, setting up, adjusting, repairing or cleaning power-driven metal forming, punching or shearing machines, which does not however, include machine tools, whose use is permitted to this age group.

13. Most jobs involved in slaughtering and meat packing, processing or rendering, or in such plants or such wholesale, retail, or service establishments, and all jobs involved with operating, feeding, setting up, adjusting, preparing or cleaning power-driven meat processing machines. These meat processing and preparation activities are also prohibited at supermarkets, delis, restaurants or at any other location.

14. Operating, assisting, setting up, adjusting, repairing or cleaning power-driven paper product machines, including paper balers. Also barred by this H.O. is all work that involves starting or stopping such machines or placing materials into or removing them from such machines. Paper balers are usually found at supermarkets and other large retail operations, where they are used to break down paper boxes. This activity leads to frequent serious injuries.

15. Operating, assisting, setting up, adjusting, repairing or cleaning power-driven circular or band saws and guillotine shears, unless they are equipped with fully automatic feed and ejection. This prohibition includes starting or stopping the machine or placing materials into or removing them from the machine.

16. All jobs in roofing operations, except for such related activities as gutter and downspout work, installing air conditioners, exhaust, ventilating and similar appliances attached

Permanent roadtrip... anything i've missed?

i just want to take my stuff and leave, drive until i find a place to rest.
not knowing where i'm going. just going with it. being free.
(although California feels quite right.)
i live in Massachusetts.
i want to be completely off the government charts. no more bank account. no more address. no more bills.
is this possible? (i can deal with still paying some bills...)
but eventually, once i'm tired of my car, i'd like to lessen my amount of material items even more and continually ride a bike to nowhere.

some questions...
1. where could i park and sleep?
2. how much money should i start out with/ do you know about how much gas it's going to take?
3. will i find enough natural foods to keep me alive? (apples, nuts)
4. is there a device that translates car power into electricity? (from the little lighter thing maybe?)
5. where else could i charge my electronics?
6. i want to make money on my own, but how when i'm unsettled?
i make art, am a great organizer, i find a use for everything (cardboard box tables), have good insight, good therapist,...
mainly i turn trash into treasure. i love it. maybe i can do that somehow?
how could i sell my stuff?
8. would it be smart to make it a goal to get to California?

help please. does this even sound like a good idea? haha.
i want to make it work.
i'm 18. home is awful.
i don't fit in with society...
haha OBVIOUSLY i'd be homeless.
thanks for answering my questions....

Answer
I can relate to how you feel. I would obviously stay south in the winter and go north in the summer. California is quite expensive and crowded. You don't need banks, no matter what the sheep people tell you. It may be difficult without credit cards getting a motel room, at least in the big chains, or to rent a car. But carry camping gear and camp across the country. It is cheap, or even free if you are on public lands. If you need to pay bills, buy money orders and mail them out. (Be sure to put account numbers on the Money Order)

1. Camp. There are thousand of places to do it in the USA
2. I would start with a few thousand dollars. But you can stop at times and do odd jobs for survival money.
3. Yes, there are places to buy that stuff all over, ot learn to get it in the wild.
4. You can charge that stuff in rest stops, gas stations, restaurants, anywhere with an electrical outlet.
5. There are always transient jobs. Wash dishes, work on farms and ranches, go to temp agencies in the bigger towns. There is always something. Just don't resort to panhandling. It sounds like you are better than that.
8. I lived in California for 20 years. Everyone should check it out. But I found much better places to go.

It is a great idea. At least give it a try. If you don't, you will always wonder "what if"? You can make it work if you want it bad enough. At age 18, you have a great opportunity here. I am a recluse too.

As for being homeless, you don't need to be.You can forward mail for up to 30 days from where you are, in care of General Delivery in the next town you are going to. Sorry for the long answer.

Firepaw

As the airship zoomed through the sky going faster than any airship known to society it's engines started to falter and the crew on board started to get frantic. "Turn on the emergency breaks" shouted some creature over the loud noise of dying engines. As the emergency breaks came on the creatures on the ship relaxed a little and the pilot put the auto-land on high in order to ignore the main engine. As he switched to the second engine the ship sputtered back to life and the crew landed safely in the forest below.

After the ship landed they got out one by one the first to step off was a short stock of a man, with a beard covering almost his entire face and long shaggy hair. The next to get out was a tall slender species with long brown hair and not a touch of facial hair. The green eyes and pointed ears were noticeably the most exotic features on him. As he stepped out he joined the dwarf. The third to come out was the pilot, a species with long slender legs and a greenish brown tint to his skin. The pilot's eyes were beady and stuck out of the top of his head right between his antennas. As he joined his friends by the large tree another being stepped out ducking her head as she came into view. This one had beady eyes as well as a long golden beak. The legs were large and muscular with talons that were covered by armored boots. The last to get out held a cuffed prisoner in front of her wolf like form. As she threw the prisoner forward he stumbled and was caught by the insect. After Shaytara got out she set the ship to stealth mode to keep it hidden in case they needed it later.

As the group gathered around they began to search for a good place to set up a camp. It would only be a one night camp, still, Shaytara decided they would need a tent with a prison room. She took out a steel ball, placed it on the ground and stepped on a button on the top of the ball. In an instant the steel ball transformed into a tent. It stood about four feet over their heads. The prison cell stood in the front of them across from the entrance hall. There were three rooms to their right and two to their left. The table in the center was for dining or meeting at and the small fridge in the wall only contained food that was provided. There was also a microwave oven built into the wall and a stove built into the floor. As Shaytara put the food in the fridge; the bug threw the prisoner in his cell and closed it with a lever on the floor a good three feet away from the prison cell. The group sat at the table in order to have a meeting about their current position. They were after all politicians to some extent.

Just when Shaytara was about to speak the prisoner stirred from his coma as though he was supposed to. The prisoner looked just like Shaytara only larger and more masculine. As he spoke above Shaytara everyone looked at him in disgust. "You're all traitors to the United Galaxies; you will die by my hands when I get out of here." "If you kill one of us in our sleep the rest of us will hear you." "Oh, my dear daughter you're so wrong in assuming you'll be asleep when I kill you." "You're nothing less than a blood spitting coward" said Kadyen the elf. "You're one to speak of cowardice Kadyen. You could be high Prince if you wanted to; instead you let your dull *** brother rule the elves only for the fact that he has magic." "You fool how dare you speak about a member of the high council in such a way." "I should be a representative of the high council; thanks to my very own daughter and her blood spitting mate I'm just a prisoner on a completely unknown world."

Answer
It is good, well planned. Needs a bit of brush up in the opening intro... Other wise colour me intrigued

Wrote a long letter to my local MP and the reply I got was "Constituent Ms Paige?" what that mean?

Sophie

The letter I wrote;

Dear Jim Fitzpatrick,
I am a young person (eighteen) who's recently moved into my own accommodation for the first time after coming out a resettlement program/a hostel. In august I applied for a community care grant to set up my first ever home, but got declined. I'm not in contact with any family and therefore have to support myself. I since then have appealed a number of times to be declined again. One of there requirements is to have come out of a resettlement program of what I have.

I quote this section that is within a letter sent to me:

"We can pay community care grants to help people in certain circumstances. For example:

- to return to, or stay in, the community rather than having to be in 'care'. By 'care' we mean places like hospital, nursing homes and old people's home.
- to return to the community from places like detention centres.
- to cope with exceptional pressure on themselves and their families.
- to set up home in the community as part of a planned resettlement programme following a period when a person has no permanent home.
- to visit someone who is ill or for another urgent reason. "

So I don't understand why I'm getting declined. I'm currently actively seeking work and finding it difficult as I haven't got the basic essentials to look after myself.

Today ( 15th November 2012), I phoned up to apply for a crisis loan and the person who I spoke to I also asked for advice on the community care grant being declined. I then found out that what I applied for apparently wasn't essential. I'll list some ex samples bellow.

I applied for a cooker so I can cook - I got told that its not essential and I could use a camping gas cooking gadget on top of my kitchen counters.

I applied for a fridge freezer - I got told that its also not essential and I can use a ice bag that will get my food to last for 2-3 days.
I applied for a washing machine as I don't know of any local laundry places - I got told that instead I can wash by hand.
I applied for some blinds as my flat is facing somebody else's accommodation - I got told as I'm on the 2nd floor it's not essential.
I applied for a bed base and mattress - I got told a base is not required but they would supply money for a cheap mattress.
Flooring such as carpet - I got told its not essential and I can get within my own time.
I applied for sofas, table and chairs - I got told this is not essential and I can sit on the floor.
I also applied for small objects such as a cutlery set and plate set but didn't get a comment on that.
I find it upsetting knowing that I really haven't got anybody out there to turn to for help. I wouldn't be requesting this financial aid of them if it was not required. Around the time I applied, a friend of mine who was also coming out a resettlement program applied for a community care grant with the same circumstances but also applied for similar items. She was given £1115 by the DWP who supply the community care grant. But yet I was declined. It seems to come across as random selection to who gets the financial support weather or not if there the same circumstances.

Another friend who is a young parents too two young children under the age of 5 is currently living in a privately rented temporary flat of what is currently fully furnished will be moving to a council temporary house that is unfurnished. She applied for a community care grant that would enable to set up a safe furnished home for herself and two young children. But has been declined of what is disgraceful as it seems the DWP would rather her have a young baby and a toddler sleeping on the floor? Like myself she's also has minimal contact with family and has to support herself and two children. I don't see why she has be declined as she has a legit reason.

I also found out from my key-worker from the hostel that this is a regularly thing people getting declined who have come out of a resettlement program. But after appealing four to five time then get £500 off the DWP what's half that was requested to set up a home. My hostel itself only takes on women from the age of 16-23, so when we move into our own accommodation we're young individuals who have come out of shared supported accommodation with the basic appliances we need. Too our own accommodation with nothing but a roof over our heads.

Personally, I think that resettlement programs, hostels and the DWP should all be joined. So when a person is ready to move into there own accommodation without the hassle of waiting months to see if you will be entitled to the financial support. They should be in contact with each-other before the person gets there accommodation so they money could possibly be set aside so soon as they move into there first flat. They have the money to set it up financially.

Yours faithfully

I'm in 7th grade. My school has a lot of land but not a lot of equipment. We have benches and tables, 2 small basketball courts (both broken nets), and a soccer net. Please Help!

Answer
In 7th grade we used to play a game called butts up, where you would throw a tennis ball against a wall, and if the other guy missed the throw he had to stand against the wall and you could nail his butt with the tennis ball. Pretty fun :)

What colors are best for my humble patio furniture?

Q. I am moving into a home with a cute little side, covered patio. It is rectangular with several small trees on the side. Nothing special. Just some concrete and a wood cover. I currently own some nice deep green plastic chairs and a white bench with table. What colors would you recommend spray painting them? All the same color or separate? Dark wicker planters, stone planters, and a medium stone waterfall will be coming with me as well. Thank you!

Answer
Either match the green or beige, white shows dirt so much. If they are nice and pretty now then don't spray paint them until the need to have a nice little touch up to look new again. Does the wood cover need to be treated yet? If so, a nice red cedar finish with the other stuff painted to match would look good.

I am new to camping and need a place in WI that I can just hike in and camp where ever.?

I am fairly new to camping, I have been out a few times. I am a hiker, kayaker and general lover of all things outdoors. i am looking for a place in Wisconsin to either hike or kayak and then be able to set up a small camp wherever I feel like. Not a public type campground with outlets and showers.

Please any info would be very appreciated.

Answer
Hi,

In most of Wisconsin, the southern 2/3 anyway, the only camping areas are state parks or private campgrounds - both of which designate where you can camp, but they aren't all over-crowded. And even in Kettle Moraine North - they have shelters for you to stay in, and you need to have a permit, etc. I don't believe they allow dispersed camping in that park either.

When you get into northern Wisconsin, you can hit the Nicolet National Forest, and there are plenty of remote / rustic sites that will leave you with few if any neighbors. Check with the local rangers about dispersed camping here, as I think there are only loose guidelines in site selection there.

The ultimate trip, of course, would be up in the Apostle Islands. There you could kayak and hike to your heart's content, hike and camp, and howl with the wolf pack!

You can canoe / kayak camp on the lower 100 miles of the Wisconsin River; from Sauk City on down, you can camp on any sandbar you come across - and there are some excellent spots. No permits are required, the only rules the DNR worry about is to make sure you don't bring glass with you on the river.

And the St. Croix river has canoe camping; I haven't had the good fortune to paddle it, but I believe the campsites are established sites, with picnic tables and fire rings. (no vehicle access though, from what I gather).

Buckhorn State Park on Castle Rock lake is a great option too. They have numerous hike-to sites. Not exactly backpacking on a trail, but you hike in up to a mile to get to your campsite. They have pit toilets nearby, but no showers and RV generators to deal with. The park is on Castle Rock Lake, and all kinds of boats are able to access some of their shoreline campsites. There are numerous bars / restaurants nearby, so you may hear bands / noise from across the lake when you're at a shoreline site. You can kayak in however, and hike in the park.

Have fun!

Hotels in Branson missouri that are cheap?

lisha141

My family and I are planning on going to Branson in July sometime and I was wondering what are some cheap but nice hotels around...

Answer
Better than hotels.com....Expedia.com is better.

I've been to Branson MANY times.

A good way to get CHEAP stay and show tickets is to sign up for a time-share sales presentation. Yeah, you gotta suffer through 2-hours of high-pressure sales tactics but hold your ground if your not interested and you'll still get your show tickets and cheap lodging.

If that's not your cup of tea...

Depending on where you want to go and do, EconoLodge Branson West is furthest from downtown Branson, but closer to Silver Dollar City. I paid less than $70/night...and it's not the greatest place either.

Howard Johnsons is close to downtown without being on the strip. It's high on a hill near the wax museum. I stayed there in early June a few years ago and got a room for less than $80/night and was VERY nice.

I heard Mountain Music Inn is nice too. My parents stay there a lot.

The cheapest place to stay would be to camp out (pop up camper or tent) on Table Rock Lake at Baxter campgrounds.

I grew up camping on the lake; as an adult, I stay in the hotels because I don't feel like hauling all my camping gear 4.5 hours just for two nights.

As for restaurants...you can't go wrong with Ruby Tuesdays and Cracker Barrel. Dockers is a terrible place. My husband and I got sick on Thanksgiving food there. We later heard from many locals the place was bad. I think they were closed for good the last time I was in Branson

Good luck and have fun.

i am looking into building a outdoor gun range i am going to be doing all the work i just want to know how much materials would cost an aroundabout and i already have a 5 acre property with building on it
i am planning on doing it for a business

but if i wanted to do it for myself i can shoot on my property all i want ?

Answer
One for yourself or a potential public one?

For pretty much the price of renting a backhoe you can make one for yourself. You don't need a fancy shooting station, just a picnic table or two, maybe a chair. You can set up various targets, wooden frames to hang paper ones, or just use steel reactive ones

If you're planning on letting outsiders in, charging admission or memberships, your insurance will probably be your biggest expense. You could get a small business loan for the initial set-up expenses, assuming your area is zoned for it.

Since there has been such talk of weddings, tell me about your dream wedding & how it compared to the real one?

LittleM

So, I will start, I am only 20 so I don't know everything about weddings, but I know I want an engagment ring from Tiffanys (I HAVE TO HAVE IT IN THE LITTLE BLUE BOX OR ITS A NO GO LOL) it has to be at least 3 carats, I want either a beach wedding or a church wedding but it has to be huge, and i want a Kleinfield dress that has the lace see through corset, strapless (some people who watch Say Yes To the Dress will know what I am talking about) and lots or rhinestones on it. Before the kiss I want my parents to kiss me on the cheek because they gave me the first kiss into life and they can give me the last kiss as a single woman :) The rest I don't have planned, but I want a huge reception and a different dress to wear to the reception, and I want a huge cake, with diamond type crystals on it, and thats all I have planned thus far because its all I care about, my husband will have to wear a black tux and look super sexy. lol

Answer
At least 3 karats? What happens if you fall in love with someone that doesn't have that kind of money?

I always wanted to have a huge wedding with about 500 guests, which is a tradition in my family. I wanted a unique Monique Lhuillier gown that was covered in Swarovski from top to bottom. I wanted a 7 tier cake with red roses and sugar crystal that look like diamonds, and huge red bouquets on the reception tables. I would arrive at the wedding in a horse and carriage and we would leave the wedding the same way. I had everything planned out, from the food to what kind of music the band would play, etc. I also wanted an engagement and wedding band from Jacob & Co.

I am getting engaged soon and my fiance bought me beautiful Tacori ring. We are most likely going to wed at City Hall, take pictures at Central Park and have a small brunch after. Answer
Camping in New Zealand. I'm not normal a very active or outdoorsy person, but I guess that's why it'd be a novelty and an exciting trip. It seems like every time I see a visually stunning film, that's where it was shot (Lord of the Rings, Narnia, etc.). I just have to see it. Plus, NZ has no natural predators. No bears, coyotes, poisonous snakes/insects, etc. The most you'd have to worry about while camping would be birds nicking your cameras. All of those waterfalls, forests, mountains, volcanoes... I'd love to just put up a big tent and a clothesline, make a fire pit, set out a table, and just forget about the modern world for a good 2 weeks. Heaven.

Second best vacation: Christmas in St. Petersburg, Russia (which is actually on January 7th because of their Orthodox calendar, so you'd still get to be with your family for "real" Christmas). I've heard it's stunning. Cold lol, but stunning. And really, who doesn't want cold & snow on Christmas?

Third option (just for fun haha): historic tour of Washington, D.C. I'd love to see the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, the Smithsonian Museums, the Lincoln Memorial, etc. And of course try out one of their many famous pubs ;)

What is daily life like in New Zealand?

Sophia Mar

I am really interested in the idea of moving to New Zealand.I am wondering what daily life is like there?I am from Staten Island(New York City)so I am used to always having something to do.Will this be different in New Zealand?Will it be a big culture shock for me?Also,are American brands/items sold in New Zealand?

Answer
I immigrated to Auckland from the States so I have experience with the change in culture. I grew up in Boston and then lived a couple years in DC so I can compare city life in the US to city-life here. I never experienced any culture-shock and I don't know of any Americans who did. It seems to be tougher for the British immigrants I know to adjust.

Moving from most parts of NYC to NZ would be a major change, but Staten Island is not that different in density and population from Auckland. Auckland has 1.4 million people spread out over a large area. It has all the stuff you'd find in the US to do. There are malls everywhere, movie theatres, clubs and pubs, nice cafes and restaurants etc. On the surface it will seem just like the US. But here are the biggest changes you'll probably begin to notice within a a few weeks of living here:

Malls and other shops close very early, like 5 or 6PM, even on a Saturday. There are no family chain restaurants like Uno's, Bertucci's etc. that you find all over in the US. Restaurants are very expensive, in fact food in general is much more expensive than in the US and the portions will be half the size. People don't dress up unless it is a special occassion. It is perfectly acceptable to be barefoot in public places. If you arrive in winter you might think the kids you see barefoot at the supermarket or mall on a cold rainy day are poor; they aren't. They all have shoes, they just don't wear them. Kids are allowed to go barefoot to elementary school and adults regularly walk around shoeless as well and this is not seen as redneck or strange at all. At most cafes and less fancy restaurants you are expected to order and pay up front first. Service is very slow by US standards but no one rushes you to move on and free up the table. You do not tip anyone in NZ, not waiters, not taxis.

As far as things to do goes, that won't be an issue. Kiwis do go to bed early and shut the shops early but there are plenty of evening activities. I go to pub quizzes a couple nights a week. Drinking during the work-week is much more acceptable here. Most work-places have friday night drinks often right in the office. I'm a teacher and still can't believe our staffroom here has a fridge dedicated to booze for friday afternoons.

Everyone in NZ gets 4-weeks paid holiday by law, so there is much more holiday culture. There are lots of beach-side camp-grounds with rows of little cabins where families go for a week or two every summer. Most of the city shuts down from late December to start of Feb while everyone takes a vacation. It's all part of the more laid-back way of life.

If you move to a rural NZ town there would be some serious culture shock I'm sure, but no different to the shock you'd have moving to a small town in upstate NY. Wellington supposedly has more culture than other cities in NZ but the weather there is awful. Honestly it makes Seattle look good. It does have a real San Fran vibe to it but it is much smaller than what your used to.

What are the cheapest and best cities for nightlife in europe for young adults?

Chloe

My friends and I want to go to Europe for 2-3 weeks in the summer. we want to limit our budget, learn during the day, and party at night. there are 4 of us and we will all be 18. we want to stay a couple of days in each city so we aren't traveling everyday. also one person speaks french and the three others speak english and spanish.
NEED suggestions on budget, nightlife, transportation, and things to see. we can only do so much, so i would like to get different views on this.

Answer
Europe is never cheap.

Some minimum prices for regular clubs:

Vodka Red-Bull: 11,50 â¬
Table in a club: 500-800 â¬
Entry for a well known DJ: 40-100 â¬

You may want to check out Zrce beach in Croatia... it's cheap compared to the rest, but it still has good atmosphere. But there is a lot of dudes and chavs (don't trust the publicity).

I think a table there is only 100 â¬. Entry last time I paid 30 ⬠for Tiesto I think. That's really not much.

Put more by side and do something decent instead. You'll never forget.

I am going to Hawaii, what is something I HAVE to see or visit while I am there?

I will be on Kona side of the Big Island for a week. I know about the volcano and the waterfalls and the beaches, but I'm talking about things I won't find in a guide book. Like unique places to eat, visit, or hangout at.

Answer
pearl harbor and the dole factory are on oahu, not the big island.

Sorry for disorganization:

If you want a little nightlife or touristy setting check out kailua town on Alii drive. Its where the chains are: Hard rock, Outback, etc. I personally like LuLus, a bar/grill on the coast...a lot of famous people have been there. Bubba Gumps is good too...some of the places have second story patios overlooking the ocean.

If you make it to the Hilo side, get some local grinds (food)...do yourself a favor and be open minded! Try a loco moco - eggs, gravy, choice of meat, rice, mac salad...i love em! Mahi Mahi, Kahlua pork...Musubi is a good snack item. I really like Cafe 100 and blaine's drive inn...great local places. Hilo bayfront has some cool shops some fine dining places and a great icecream/shaved ice shop - mom n pops owned. Try the halo-halo - my personal favorite...theres also the farmers market on wednesday and saturday - great shopping/bargaining...food, souveniers, clothing, anything you can imagine. Check it out.
Try to avoid the hilo hotels as they are all pretty dirty/ghetto....

Rainbow falls in Hilo is beautiful, akaka falls is nice too (420 feet high.)

Black sands beach is cool and unique (theres a lot of black sand beaches but im talking about "black sands" beach.

Back on kona side Kua bay is my favorite beach - beautiful white sand, great blue water with waves, and also it has showers and PAVED road - a rarity for many beaches.

Place of refuge is cool, its sort of boring but still very neat to see the statues/tikis. Near there, there is a place to kayak(I forget what its called) but you can rent a kayak from a local for a cheap rprice (if you can bargain, try the drunk guy on the picnic table with the dog) and kayak out to captain cooks monument. In the early mornings dolphins like to go there.

I really enjoy the elevated drive above the kona coast - im not sure how exactly we got there, but its on the way to kailua town from place of refuge - i have never seen a more beautiful view.

If you are wondering how to get around the island, car rentals are fairly cheap...gas isnt but compared to the rest of the US rentals are very fair. Theres also the Hele-on bus that circles the island - you have to check for times...i think its on the web...search for hele on bus schedule big island.
The bus is totally free (or was a few months ago) but takes about four hours. Theres a lot of nice scenery though!

Wai'pio valley is really nice too...theres companys that will take you down the ridiculously steep road to get down there (you NEED 4x4.)

Be careful though...there are people on the island with a little hostility toward tourists...namely white people (haoles)...if you get called "f****** haole" it isnt a friendly gesture...just ignore them and get away. It isnt your fault but your ancestors took their land and some of them are still pissed. Haole can be used in a more friendly term too so dont immediately get offended if you hear this.

There are MANY MANY MANY friendly locals. Be respectful at all times...do not act like you are better than anyone...it is very offensive...remember that you are a guest on their islands...Keep an open mind and if you get called out just get away...dont be surprised if you are offered pot either as its almost a cultural thing!

If you have any q's msg me!

Some local pidgin that might throw you off:
grind: eat
ono: good
choke:a lot/many
wahine: women
kane: men
brah:bro
howzit: hows it going?
no can: I cant
no can no can: I really cant

What kinds of food should I bring camping with me?

SuFi ChIcK

going camping for the first time alone with my bf and this is our first time going with out our parents or family.

Answer
Assuming TENT CAMPING! If you are taking a Trailer/RV you can take just about anything you desire!

Short trip car> Bread, Peanut butter and jelly, canned stew and vegetables, tea/instant coffee, at least 2 gallons of drinking water, grate/grill for cooking over fire, Kitchen matches with the striker from the box in a plastic bag to protect from moisture, Instant potatoes, box Macaroni & Cheese, Canned Baked Beans. Instant Oatmeal in whatever flavors you desire. Salt and pepper in sealed plastic containers, Sugar and /or any other seasonings likewise in sealed containers. A coffee pot, for heating water for coffee or tea. Anything else you like, which does not absolutely require refrigeration. Ice chest and camp stove are optional but highly recommended! Cold Soda or beer is definitely a plus!

Longer trip car> Ice chest and camp stove become mandatory! But that also allows more flexibility in meal plans, with ice chest and stove you can take eggs, butter and milk to prepare a more traditional breakfast including if you desire Bacon! You can also take steak and other meats to grill ( do not forget to take suitable seasonings!) and if space permits a large cast griddle or fry pan you can take pancake mix (requires egg and milk, and do not forget the spatula!) Take along 2, 10 quart metal buckets to be your wash basins and I recommend Dawn brand dish soap and Scotch Bright Pads to clean up those greasy pots and pans. At least 2 flat hot pads and an oven glove. Durable plastic plates and glasses, and plastic insulated mugs and a set of flatware including a sharp (steak) knife for each person and serving spoons and forks.

Other important items: You will need a multi-purpose pocket knife ( Swiss Army style - not necessarily brand - and make sure it is SHARP and well lubricated ) Trash Bags. A 6 way screwdriver, a small hatchet with sheath, Take lots of 5/32" nylon line and a couple of pocket lighters when you cut a length of the line seal the end with the lighter so it will not fray. A pack of thumb size candles for fire starting. Pocket Flashlights.

A table lantern - Colman White Gas AKA "Camp Fuel" lantern or battery - Coleman Lanterns last forever and produce vast amounts of bright white light, but they require a steady supply of fuel, Mantels and the occasional replacement Generator and Globe, if you choose the Coleman Lantern be sure to practice lighting it several times during daylight in an outdoor location well away from anything flammable and NEVER EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT LIGHTING IT INSIDE OF YOUR TENT OR ANY OTHER STRUCTURE!!!!!)

Take about twice as many towels as you might want at first thought, 1 wash cloth per person plus 1 dish cloth are sufficient. Pack large zip-lock bags to carry wet clothing / swimwear in.
Collapsible Chairs and camp stools are great but don't break the bank to buy them for your first trip.

Take Clothing suitable for Winter and Rainy Conditions in the area where you will be camping! (Ponchos! And heavy coats! ) Nothing worse than getting frozen stiff because the weatherman blew it! This includes a Knit Cap which covers your ears if the temperature could possibly fall below 50 Degrees F!

Take good warm sleeping bags (rated ZERO Degrees F ) which can be joined together and AIR MATTRESSES! One for each person and a SPARE! Do not even think about camping without air mattresses!

Please plan on purchasing your firewood where you camp to avoid moving around BAD Insects! Take newspaper in a plastic bag for fire starting too.

If Space and Funds permit a set of poles and a camp Fly (10'X10' Tarp) are very desirable to keep the table area dry in the event of rain ( minimum 6 poles and a dozen 14' long lines, stakes, S-Hooks and O-rings - the O-ring prevents sharp edges on the Stake from damaging the line and the S-Hook makes it real easy to attach to the tarp eyes.

Proper equipment and preparation make all the difference between comfortably riding out the storm when camping and being cold wet and miserable when the unexpected .

Have Fun!

What is the quietest outdoor spot in Los Angeles?

Mangy

I'm looking for a quiet outdoor spot where I can record some acoustic music. Preferably on the west side. Preferably not much of a hike from where I park my car. Preferably with a bench or picnic table available to spread out my music. I realize that occasional helicopter and airplane noise may be inevitable but if you know a quiet spot away from other traffic, please let me know!
I'm not sure if the Hollywood sign answer is serious. I thought that area was closed to the public. The other sarcastic answers here are not helpful. I'm hoping someone can suggest a relatively quiet and secluded park with picnic tables that are placed away from vehicular traffic. I already know one suitable spot, Temescal Canyon Recreational area in Pacific Palisades, but the problem there is they charge a ridiculous $7 to park your car. C'mon people, how about some help instead of snarky comments?
Thanks for the Mt. Wilson answer, I appreciate it. But Mt. Wilson is pretty far away from L.A. isn't it? I was hoping for someplace a little closer in.

Now that I have caught my breath... whew... The national forests do have a few places where you can drive out to a nice quiet place and spread your music on a week day perhaps and Mt Wilson comes to mind I went on a thursday and literally had the whole mountain for my self the picnic area's were empty and quiet, great views and I saw deer, squirrels. quail but the only other people were the staff that worked up there. weather is a changing be prepared for rain and or snow and you will need an adventure pass $5 a day or $30 for the year

Cost of Spa/On board activities on Carnival Cruise Ships?

sweetxgrac

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much onboard activities on the cruise ship costs such as the spa? Does anyone know where I can find prices or have a guestamation?

My husband and I have put our deposit on a cruise, so maybe if we paid the rest of it it would tell us???? Not quite sure.

Thanks!

Answer
Hidden Costs of Cruising

You have probably heard the term "all-inclusive" applied to cruises every so often. But while a voyage is one of the best values around since all major expenses (lodging, meals, snacks, activities and entertainment) are indeed included in the fare, there are some items -- mostly of a personal nature -- that are out-of-pocket expenses. "Ready money," Lord Byron once said, "is Aladdin's lamp." So set aside some cash to cover these expenditures to truly make your next sailing the cruise of your dreams. And to make sure the incidentals don't break the bank for you, here are some tips on saving on the "seven seas":

Shore Excursions: Read the line's shore tour booklet and attend the port lectures given aboard ship that give you more details about the organized tours available for sale on the ship. Prices for these excursions range from about $25 - $45 for a half-day city tour, to more than $200 for some all-day tours, overland programs including meals and snacks and such exciting offerings as helicopter flight-seeing and hot-air ballooning.

Savings Tip: While you may wish to sign up for some of the ship's tours (particularly if you are not familiar with the port and do not speak the language) you also have the option to tour independently at a fraction of the cost -- or even for free, if you go on a self-guided walking tour. Before setting sail, request free planners with maps, calendars of events and attraction brochures for the ports of call on your itinerary from tourist boards. Check out books on your destination from the public library, and visit Web sites such as this one, particularly our Ports of Call, to give you ideas for touring in the ports. Look over the calendars from the tourist offices for festivals or crafts displays (sources of good, free entertainment) during your visit. Art galleries showcasing local work, parks and beaches are some free or nominal charge attractions to check out. Museum and native crafts exhibits are other inexpensive options. If you decide to hire a car and driver to give you a private tour (generally less expensive than the shipboard excursions) or just to take you to the center of town, always agree on the price (and in the case of a tour, what specific points of interest will be covered) before you board the car.

Alcohol and other Beverages: Alcoholic beverages and wine are not included in the cruise fare on most lines (with the exception of some ultra-deluxe lines). And your tab can add up: Hard liquor, cocktails and wine range from $3.50 - $8 apiece, depending on cruise line (higher end lines tend to charge more for drinks); soft drinks will run $1.50 - $2.

Savings Tip: Most vessels advertise "daily drink specials" you may want to try. At meals, iced tea, milk, coffee and juices are complimentary. If you are traveling with children, find out if your ship offers "soda packages" that feature unlimited sodas during the cruise for about $15-$20. Or bring-your-own -- we pick up soda six-packs in port. Be forewarned, though: cruise line policies on bringing alcohol onboard are highly restricted.

Casino Gaming: Shipboard casinos keep getting bigger and bigger, so it is safe to say, the lines are doing well at their tables and slots.

Savings Tip: Set a limit as to how much you wish to risk and leave if you lose it. Or better yet, avoid the casino altogether -- there are plenty of other diversions onboard, like music for dancing, production shows, variety entertainment and TV-style game shows that will not set you back a penny!

Spa: A massage is typically around $90 - $110. Take advantage of ship discounts on port days. Most shipboard spas are operated by Steiner's of London, and the staff, who works on commission, often gives you a sales pitch (they sometimes even call it a "prescription") that calls for you to buy several of their products.

Savings Tip: If you get a sales pitch and do not want the products, just smile and say you will think about it and get back to them. Or be bold right up front -- and ask not to be bothered with sales pitches at all. Another tip: check your ship's daily program of activities for ads for spa treatment specials that may be available one day only or during certain hours of a given day.

Souvenir Shopping: You probably want to purchase something to remember your cruise, and it may take a lot of willpower to pass up on the beautiful -- and expensive -- figurines, perfumes, designer fashions and leather goods if your budget does not allow for them.

Savings Tip: Avoid temptation by not browsing in the boutiques onboard and ashore if you cannot afford to buy. If you do plan to purchase some souvenirs, check the prices of merchandise at stores back home and bring pages of their sales catalogs for the particular items you are interested in to compare prices (they may be cheaper at home). Good, inexpensive souvenirs include handicrafts from outdoor markets and street vendors, and local products such as coffee, jellies, etc. purchased at grocery stores in the ports.

Laundry: As at land-based resorts, laundry and dry cleaning charges on a cruise can be steep (approximately $2.50 to $3.50 to wash a T-shirt, for instance). Check to see if there is a self-service launderette and use it (typically, washing and drying one load of clothes comes to about $2 - $3).

Savings Tip: If there is no launderette, pack enough changes of clothes for the cruise and do the wash back home.

Film And Other Camera Needs: Getting additional film, batteries and other camera supplies will not only cost you more money (generally $1 to $2 more per item than the same articles bought at a discount store back home), but precious vacation time as well. Ships' photographers typically charge $7 - $9 per photo, $15 - $20 per formal portrait.

Savings Tip: Buy plenty of film and other camera supplies on sale at home -- and bring more than you think you will need, just in case. Take your own pictures and rely sparingly, if at all, on the ship's photographers.

Tipping: Many lines recommend about $10 per person per day to be given to the dining room waiter ($4.00 per person, per day), assistant waiter ($2 per person, per day) and cabin steward ($4.00 per person, per day). If you have butler service, be prepared to tip that crew member $4 per day. Bar tabs are charged a 15 percent gratuity automatically. When the maitre d' performs a special service, such as arranging for a birthday cake to be brought to the table, he should be tipped as well.

Savings Tip: These folks -- particularly the waiters, assistant waiters and cabin stewards -- work very hard. Unless the service has been poor, tip the recommended amount. And add a little more, if you can, for outstanding attention

I need help with colours and accessories for my home.?

beach house table runners on Stitches and Seams: Easily Distracted
beach house table runners image

we have a single story 3 bedroom house. we like earthy colours, but maybe with a dash of brightness here and there. so far our choices have been mostly incongruous and our curtains are weird as is our sofa, since we can't figure out how to get the "dash" of brightness. anyhow, our walls are off-white, so taking it from there, we need help with curtains, cushions, bedcovers, tableclothes rugs and accessories. should i do the whole house in two colours? would it look weird if i did each room in a different colour? what about prints or flat colours? (yes we are quite at sea!)

Answer
Well patterned curtains are great for injecting colour and style, similar to a feature wall it is also great if you have a neutral colour couch and walls as you can now and again change the theme of the room eg from blue to green accents, with rugs I would definitely say to invest in a good quality one, of course it wouldn't look weird doing each room a different colour so long as you do it to your style.
Sea is a great theme you can get so many beautiful photographs and paintings of beach scenes and a really good idea is to get a vase and a large candle with sand at the bottom such as these:

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_aVVJ9_zOsgrJurFaWeRiP141j7OEuWpGscrELpNG3Ophb-ds70XZeWNX0900WE-jJmjhb7hFlMiJvojH6G83wE0jHC3xbjj243ErnD09LPaeJu1-9bN4bykWrqZ-szepb8YdLkxXSwA/s1600/P1010043.JPG

http://pics.boards.weddingbee.com/12336.Votive_Sand.jpg

both of these examples are from wedding centre pieces but I have them either side of my mantelpiece and it looks great and creates a great atmosphere when lit.
Also for other room a lamp shade/ lamp fitting can create a great impact on the room. I have discovered that table runners and how great they are, they leave the rest of the table to be easily wiped clean and the runner still looks great

I hope you have a great time decorating
xx

What does your bedroom look like (looking for decorating ideas)?

Q. My bedroom is in the attic. It has wood floors, beams along the ceilings, 2 big old windows, and a small bathroom attached. I painted two walls a very light green. I was going for a vintage, whimsical look. I have a double wooden bed with pink bedding and I used an old tapestry to create a canopy. I have a nightstand, big vintage trunk, bookshelf, papasan chair, pink couch, round kids table, craft desk, record player/stereo, armiore with my tv, dvd/vcr player, and video games, small mini fridge, and storage cabinet. I have alot of my own artwork and collages on the walls, twinkle lights, fake ivy, fantasy paintings, and a collage wall of posters. My bathroom is a light pink and I have a painted sink, glass cabinet, and bathtub. Beside my bathroom and the stairs is a small awkward space which I made into a little walk-in closet with my wardrobe, clothing rack, and shoe rack. I used some pull curtains to make a door.

Answer
I live in military government housing so I'm limited on painting. I can paint but then I have to put it all back to the way it was when I moved in - I'm only here for 3 years so I don't want to bother.
Since I'm military I'm kind of minimalist when it comes to decorating and furniture. My bedroom has hardwood floors, 9 foot ceilings and is about 16X16 ft. I have a bed and 2 nightstands on the entry wall and a chest of drawers and a dresser on the wall opposite. On the wall opposite the windows I have a wall type closet and 2 canvas wardrobes that take up the entire wall. I don't have a frame on my bed so the boxspring just sits on the floor. I hung a green and blue dining table runner in place of a headboard and hung black and white beach pictures directly on the runner. On the window wall on either side of the window I have shadow box picture frames with pictures I took in Hawaii, green landscapes, and a few pics of the ocean from the air when I went up in a glider. I have green and blue sheers on my window - they are layered on 2 different rods. On the wall with the chest and dressers I have hung 2 scarves that match the curtains but have gold detailing that I bought when I was in Afghanistan. I also have a pair of dark wood shelves with books and vases that I also bought in Afghanistan. My bedding is blue and green to match the curtains and the scarves. I also have a blue and gold rug on the floor that I also bought in Afghanistan. I was going for relaxing tropical resort kind of feel. On the dresser I have a carved wooden palm tree that I got in Mexico and light blue and green candle holders. None of the colors are dark but do vary in shade with the darkest being the table runner headboard with dark blue and grass green and the rest being more of a sky blue with a soft lime green.

I met this really awesome guy 3 nights ago at a beach volleyball tournament. There was a whole group of us there and he happened to sit next to me at the table for dinner. I talked to mostly him the whole night just because we had a lot in common.

I gave him my number when I found out he rode his bike to work and I offered to drive him since it's a day camp and I take my siblings there anyway.

I'm not sure if he will ever text me but should I be like "hey! It was really nice meeting you the other night" and see where it goes from there?

Answer
Personally, don't text him. It will be like you're "chasing" him, and you want to be as far from "needy" as possible. If he doesn't text you, then he doesn't want to continue a friendship with you, and texting him wont make him change his mind.
Answer mine please?

pool party suggestions?

Joe

I am hosting a pool party and I would like some entertain suggestions. It is at night, I plan on having food, music, and plenty of alcohol. Any cool party tips to help entertain my guests?

Answer
sure i have some

-Summer Pool Parties Toys
Pool toys are the most important items for a summer pool party. Stock a variety of toys to please the kids, and the adults. Squirt guns, swimming noodles, and diving items such as rings and sticks are must haves. A basketball hoop or volleyball net is good addition for guests of all ages.
Flotation devices are always a must for a pool party. There is a wide array of floating rafts. You can find inflatable rafts for as little as $3-5, but those do not always hold steady â but they are fun for the kids. There are more durable ones that cost upwards of $20 but are definitely worth having for adults at the party. Also consider kick boards for the kids. They will have the time of their lives splashing behind one of them! Also donât forget the arm floaters for younger kids who donât know how to swim or have just learned to swim. Even if you have asked guests who rsvpâed to come equipped with their own, it is a good idea to stock some spares.

Pool Safety â Comes First
For a childrenâs party always have a few adults keep a sharp eye on the pool. You and your guests will be much more comfortable if you know that your children are safe. For an adults party be sure to keep the guests who have had a little too much to drink away from the pool.

Poolside
Anticipate your guestâs needs and designate a bathroom easily accessible from the pool as the changing room. Put out stacks of clean towels, bottles of sun-screen and Aloe-Vera lotion. Donât forget the pool umbrellas and throw around some pillows and beach towels for casual comfort.

Summer Pool Party Games
Set up your sound system out doors and be ready with a list of âsummerâ music to last you at least 3 hours. Have tables set up around the pool with backgammon, chess, and scrabble. If the wind suits, you could even have some kites ready for an on the spot kite flying competition. Set up a limbo stick in a corner.
Water balloon fights and Marco Polo, pool volleyball or basketball are great group activities in the pool. Pool murder mysteries are also a good way to engage your guests.

Summer Pool Party Decorations
Keep it simple and elegant. Balloons are great to add a festive touch to your pool side. Buy lots of blow up beach balls and float them in the pool. Tiki torches or strings of lights are great décor around the pool, especially if the party is going to be extending into the evening and night hours.

For the tables you can decorate them with grass skirts. For the tables you could go for tablecloths and flatware in bright solid colors like yellow or green/lime. For flatware, blue would be a good choice. Add a vase with sunflowers or any other yellow flowers and you have a no fuss centerpiece ready. Serve the salads or appetizers on plantain tree leaves.

Itâs simple touches that add to the party mood and atmosphere. For a summer pool party add umbrella party picks to drinks , use flip flop coasters and serve food on tropical or tiki platter, beach buckets and brightly colored serving dishes.

Once your guest are ready to hank up their towels for the evening, float a dozen large color flowers in the pool or use a styrofoam board to hold some floating candles and flowers and float it in the pool. Donât forget the citronella candles burning around the party area to help keep bugs away. It would also be nice to have bug spray available for your guests to use.

Pool Party Food Ideas
Finger foods and non-greasy foods are best. Fresh fruits and veggies are light fare perfect for the hot sun. Bbq-ing is always a fantastic option. Kebabs, burgers, hot dogs, veggies and fruits can all be grilled to perfection. We have lots of great BBQ recipes for your to check out.

Pool Party Drinks
For the pool time, simple beverages like lemonade, iced tea, carbonated drinks and juices are good. For snacks and finger food consider serving chips and dips, fruit platters, watermelon wedges, or bite sized sandwiches. Here are some adult drink recipes and kids drink ideas

Answer
A friend of mine sent her parents To the Island Lodge, and they enjoyed so much , the place is fantastic and they spend so much time in contact with nature.
I founded some information in the web:
Attention to detail, anticipation of the needs and wishes of our guests, courteous service: these are some of the traditions of classic inn keeping. Traditions we've been striving to uphold and improve these 59 years we've been in business. Canoe Island Lodge is not large, not small, accommodating 175 guests. This is a size that permits us to provide individual attention, yet justifies a wide variety of activities, a varied menu and gracious quarters. We hope Canoe Island Lodge will become your home away from home for enjoying time on the water and outdoors; a place where you can count on convenience and comfort; honest prices and a relaxing vacation.
What started modestly is now a rarity in terms of value and entertainment. Canoe Island Lodge offers a choice of lodging that includes log cabins, lakefront chalets, hillside cottages and rooms in the main lodge.
Although we have many different types of rooms, all our rates include meals & activities. During the off-season, our rates include Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and all activities. During July & August our rates include Breakfast & Dinner and most activities. We also have a lakeside restaurant available for casual lunches.
Our main dining room has large tables for groups or families making new friends, and two side dining rooms for private tables.
Meals:
Breakfast is cooked to order, lunch is a lighter menu or out on the deck during July & August. The dinner menu offers a nice selection throughout the week. On Thursdays evenings, we load the boats and put on a great island barbecue including chicken, ribs & corn on the cob. Our chef offers a wide variety to meet your requests & our baker will tempt you with fresh pastries, rolls & desserts.
Room Descriptions:
We have a wide variety of accommodations at the lodge, for some categories we have 10 rooms that are alike, for others we have only one. We have a high percentage of returning guests, many have come for 20 years or more, reserving the same accommodations and meeting up with the same guests each year.
In addition to our extensive waterfront facilities, Canoe Island Lodge offers a variety of activities to make your vacation relaxing and enjoyable.
Evening Entertainment:
We have a variety of live entertainment: from live music on the boat deck, to the guest talent show, to games and karaoke in the tavern and clam bakes. We have boats for scenic cruises, custom built sailboats, a Ski Nautique, tennis courts, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, a practice chipping area, and expansive decks and views overlooking the lake.
Scheduled Activites:
We have an activities director who coordinates fun events for the children from tie-dyeing tee-shirts, to capture the flag on the island. With advance notice we can work on private baby-sitting for your young ones. Adults often join together for pickup basketball, volley ball on the island beach or tennis.
Tennis:
We have two clay courts as well as rackets & balls at the front desk

And have loaner clubs at the front desk.

Party ideas for a 13th Birthday Party?

annie

I'm throwing my daughter a 13th birthday party. The theme is a beach bash luau. What should I have for them to do other than swim,play volleyball. Should I have games? What kind of food should I serve. I could use some great ideas from anyone who throws parties all the time.

Answer
Pool Party Ideas

Be creative⦠it isnât necessary to have all this ideas.

Fun Invitations - options:
Write party information on beach balls and send to guests. {or}
Send party information "message in a bottle" style - fill empty plastic water bottles (remove label) with a little sand and seashells and insert party information into the bottle. Decorate outside of bottle. {or}
A basic pool invitation cards.
~~~~~~
Decorations:
1.Use colorful beach towels for tablecloths.
2.Place sand and seashells in the center of tables. Fill buckets with sand and tie helium balloons to the handles.
3.Hang fishnets around the edge of the party and fill with shells, crabs and seahorses.
4.Hang blow-up beach balls around the party area. Place beach balls by the mailbox with a sign or helium balloons to tell party guests "This is the place!"
~~~~~~
Games:
Set up pool volleyball, or other pool game for a group.
~~~~~
Soaked Shirt Relay
Fun relay for all ages. Teams line up on one side of the pool. They must put on a large t-shirt and swim to the
other side of the pool and back. Then take off the wet shirt and the next player must put it on and swim to the
other side of the pool and back. Keep going until all players have completed the task - first team done wins. The
shirt is very hard to get on and off while it is wet.
~~~~~
The Piñaqua Piñata
1. Using your backyard hose, fill a medium-sized plastic trash bag with one to two gallons of water. Knot the top of the bag.
2. Tie one end of the rope tightly beneath the knot. Toss the free end of the rope over a tree branch (a parent's job) and either tie it securely or have the adult stand by to raise and lower the piñaqua.
3. To play, each kid takes a turn getting blindfolded, getting spun around three times, and then taking three whacks at the piñaqua with the piñata stick. The winner is the one who manages to break the bag and unleash the tidal wave. Needs: Medium-sized trash bag (we used a clear, 10-gallon bag), water, rope, tree, bandanna or scarf, and piñata stick
~~~~~
Most Popular Game!!!
Water Balloon Toss Throw (Itâs just like the game of Dodge Ball or Laser Paint Gun, only you will get wet and stained) Fill the balloon with water and few drops of food color (or any dye color to get the real color out) inside the balloon, do this outside or in the sink plus wear old clothes while doing this. Use several of color to make team. Rule of this game is not to throw above the breast/chest to the face/head. If someone did⦠is out of the game. And arenât allow to throw hard, you only allow to toss throw. It is safer and everyone will have a good time. Divide the team by food color choice. Call friends/family and have them buy balloons and give them the choice of food color and let them do this at home and bring it to the party. This way you have tons of balloons not to do it yourself. Also you got to pick the team for them without them knowing who is on his/her team⦠You get the ideas! Needs: water balloons, select of food colors or dye colors. Or you rather use water gun instead of the balloons... I prefer to do balloons, cuz' water gun runs out fast of water.
PS. Tell your guests to wear old white shirt and old short or bring it to the party. Because once you are hit, the dye will not come off the clothes⦠they also can wear swimsuit, if you want to.
~~~~~
Balloon Brigade Relay Race
This fast-paced race lets winners go out with a real bang. Need: balloons.
1. Assemble each team in single file with the first player in each line holding a balloon.
2. When the whistle blows, each lead player passes the balloon between her legs to the next person in line. Each recipient, in turn, passes the balloon overhead to the teammate directly behind her.
3. The balloon is passed alternately between players' legs and over players' heads all the way down the line. When the last person receives the balloon, he or she races to the front of the line and the balloon pass resumes.
4. The relay continues in this fashion until one of the original players regains position at the front of her line and pops the team balloon.
~~~~~
Pool Butterball Game
Oil the beach ball and divide two team, must try to get the ball away from the other team and try to get to the other side of the pool goalie⦠like football only problem of the game is the ball is greasy and hard to get it. Fun Fun!
~~~~~
Tube Race!!!!
~~~~~
Sucker
Suck or eat a long strand of licorice as fast as you can. Very long thin pieces of licorice for each player. As many players you can get to play. Need: Buy a big box of strawberry laces or licorice (the longer the better). Everyone has to put one end in his or her mouths. The idea is to lick/suck up the lace without using your hands as quick as possible. The room will go silent with the concentration then explode in a fit of giggles when every sees everyone else looking silly! The winner is the first to eat their lace all up yes they can chew donât want them to choke.
~~~~~
Cheetos Head
Try to throw Cheetos at your teammate and make them stick to their head covered with shaving cream. 6 or more players. Needs: plastic shower caps, Cheetos, and shaving creams. One person is seated on a chair. A plastic shower cap (or plastic wrap) is placed on the individual's head. Shaving cream is applied over the entire shower cap. The other team member or members stand behind a line opposite the seated player, about 4 â 5 feet a part. During a preset period of time (60-120 seconds), team members throw Cheetos at the seated player and attempt to get them to stick on the shaving cream. The seated player can assist by moving his head to help "catch" the Cheetos. The team with the most Cheetos stuck on the shaving cream wins.
~~~~~
Limbo
~~~~~
Music:
Do you have an ipod? Set it up with a good stereo system. If you donât have one, ask one of your friends who does. Also if youâre in the mood, have a karaoke; this will be a fun entertainment!!!

Anybody ever had a small wedding ceremony on a beach?

beach table decorations wedding image

Ben K

My girlfriend is from Romania. She will be coming back to the states to be with me and we are planning on getting married. She always talks about the beach and everything. So, I thought maybe we could just go to the local county clerk to get the license, then drive down to the beach and get married. Her family of course is in Romania, so there really won't be anyone from her side of the family, so we are probably going to keep it pretty small. Then maybe after we are married we can travel to Romania and show her family. Any ideas or tips about beach weddings? Thanks.

Answer
A girlfriend of mine had a beach wedding not so long ago, and let me tell you it was an interesting event! It was very simple- minister along with parents on each side and an additional witness on each side. I suppose these would have been considered a 'bridesmaid' and a groomsman had it been a larger affair.

Consider the tide! Especially if you're going to have any 'permanent' fixtures set up for your wedding ceremony. Many people don't consider things like tide and weather, especially if their party is small and casual. Are you having your reception on the beach too? That'd be awesome- maybe a bonfire. My girlfriend and her groom had a large dining table set up, and it was all decked out for this incredible reception dinner. She used this company she found online for many of her wedding decorations, and she had the cutest favors (great beach-themed stuff!). I have the site...they have the best prices too!

How to honor deceased family members at a wedding?

MiMi D

So my fiance and I are getting married July 2010 and I am trying to think of creative ways to honor our deceased family members. I have lost 2 grandfathers, 1 grandmother and an aunt. He has lost a grandfather and an uncle. I was thinking of getting pictures of each of them individually and having a table with an empty seat to represent each of them. In front of each chair will be their photo. Then since we are having a beach theme wedding I was thinking of include a ton of burning candles on this table. Just not sure if this is a good idea or if it is a little too much.

Answer
That seems a little much, unless they passed away within a few weeks of the wedding. I would like to suggest getting one white rose for each beloved that has died, and either loosely arranging them in a vase or have them formally arranged. Place it at the front of the ceremony site, and say a few words in your bulletin about what the flowers at the front represent. Then at the reception, have them on your table for decoration, or at the parent's table.
