Babyshower thank you girft ideas..?

maui71407

We are throwing my sister a babyshower and the theme is "under the water" she is crazy about turtles and the baby's room is going to be done in fish and turtles and other sea things. What would be a cute and creative thank you gift for a baby shower? anyone seem any cute links ? Thank for your help
The thank you gifts would be for the guest who come.

Answer
Honestly, I've been to a few showers lately and it seems that people are moving away from having thank you favors or whatever you want to call them. Most of them just get thrown out and although they are cute, they really don't serve too much use. If you feel that you HAVE to get something, try this idea...
http://www.southbeachgifts.com/nameandtableplacecardholders.htm

http://www.beau-coup.com/beach-themed-place-card-holders.htm

http://www.gunthergifts.com/nshhawoplhos.html

Place card holds are nice because you can put everyone's name on a little card on a main table near the enterance and they can pick it up when they arrive and bring it to their seat, or you can have them already on each table, if you're going to have assigned seats.
Than, after the shower, the guests can use the placecard holders as a photo holder.
As another idea with the place card holders, instead of using them for names...you can put baby pictures of the mom and dad in each of the holders and decorate the center of the tables and the gift tables with them...than leave a little basket and tell everyone to take a place card holder when they leave, but to put the photo in the basket!

Good luck and have fun with it! Very cute theme!!

Questions about a small wedding/reception (about 12-15 people)?

Been there

We're having a small wedding on the beach and then a reception in a private room in the hotel.

There will be 5 guest tables, each seating 2-4 people. My fiance and I will sit at a table for 2.

Are placecards necessary for such a small group?

Also, any ideas for wedding favors? If I use the place cards I was thinking of some sort of beach themed holder. If I go with the holder, do I need to have one per person, or one per couple? For example, one couple and their 5 year old are sitting at one table, should I have place cards for each of them or just one - i.e. Jones family

I would like to use disposable cameras for guests to take their own shots and then give back to us. Generally are these left on the tables, or on the table with the guest book?

For a guest book I thought of buying an autograph picture frame for guests to sign instead, as there is only going to be 10 signatures or so.

Thanks for your help! Also, any advice for people who have had small weddings or beach weddings is appreciated. I immigrated from another country and only had a few months to plan the wedding so needless to say, being new to town it was difficult to find the right vendors, etc.

Thanks in advance.
Awesome suggestions, ladies.
And you're right - why spend money on a bunch of trinkets people are going to throw away? I love the food idea, as well as the little beach gift pails.
I want it to be fairly casual and laid back - just want everyone to have a nice dinner and enjoy their time.
Thanks so much! You saved me a lot of time (and some money!) deciding on favors.

Answer
No, place cards really aren't necessary.

Don't use place card holders as wedding favors. They are useless after people leave the wedding. Favors are not mandatory, so if you skip them then that's fine. If you WANT to offer a favor, do something people can eat or drink - cookies, candy, wine, chocolates, mints, small jars of honey or jame, etc. Trinkets get tossed in the trash.

I would attach a note to the cameras saying, "Please take some photos of the wedding, then leave them on the table when you're finished. Thanks!"

The autograph picture frame is a nice idea.

My tip is to have seating for everyone, for the ceremony and the reception. It sucks to have to stand.

what kitchen tools should I take on vacation? I love to cook and we are staying in a condo on the beach.?

strictlyso

Answer
I love to cook to so every time I leave my kitchen to cook anywhere else (even another persons house) I always take my favorite knives (they are really sharp and different sizes), my whisk, cutting board (1 for just veggies and 1 for meat), my favorite pots or pans just one or 2 and my table top grill (I love to make pancakes and french toast on that only!). If I know that i am going to be baking I will take my measuring cups, spatula, and measuring spoons. Have fun!

And to the person that said "why would you cook if you are on vacation?"
That is something you will not understand if you are not a person who truly loves to cook. For a person that sees it as a gift and not a chore it can relive stress. If you are having a bad day and you go into your kitchen and fix up a hot meal, when it is time to sit down and enjoy that meal. The first bit.... it will then make your bad day turn right around and you will think to yourself SUCCESS! One thing that went right in the day! A FANTASTIC MEAL!

Beach wedding cake ideas?

luv bunny

I need help i have been looking and i like this one

http://www.wedding-flowers-and-reception-ideas.com/images/beach-wedding-cake01.jpg

four tier

any ideas
thx yea the bottom part is going to be blue

Answer
It's very theme-like for a sea themed wedding... I would rather have the brown parts blue to symbolize the water because it doesn't seem pretty enough to me... but then you can always have beach sand sitting on the table under the cake. ... it just seems that the brown next to the seahorse doesn't translate well because the seahorse never comes out of the water, if you know what I mean.
i hope that makes sense to you and that I explained my thoughts well enough.

Tropical themed wedding?

<3

if you can give me some original ideas for a tropical wedding theme, send me links to pix or just ideas, thank you!

Answer
There are tons of things you can do. Dinner music or C.Hour can be reggae/beach theme. Don't over do it. Center pieces can be filled with sand and shells. Umbrella sticks in drinks. Have a tropical drink fountain as opposed to a choc. one.

Bridal party can be in Hawaiian shirts and kacki's. Hawaiian leis on each chair. Give away centerpieces to whom ever has a "yellow" leigh on their chair.

Tables could have the large umbrella on them, you may have to rent them yourself.

Have the girls all wear beach sandals.
Are you getting the idea.

huntington beach, CA?

the_jessic

is there any restaurant in huntington beach that has a nice ocean view kinda like a lounge w. comfy sofas rather than just chairs, thats not too bar like but where a family can go? i guess somewhere a bit classy but not too pricey.
my parents and i (16yrs old) wanna go. eat a light meal, enjoy the view, talk, and just chill. but just chairs and a table is kinda uncomfortable, so i was thinking somewhere where they have like sofas. a chill, nice, restaurant. :D

Answer
No, that doesn't exist in HB. The restaurants with ocean views are interested in turning tables and making more money, especially in the summer.

Description ~~
Enjoy the Northeastâs most spectacular beach and follow trails and boardwalks through a landscape of sand dunes and salt marsh.

What makes Crane Beach a special place?
At Crane Beach, youâll enjoy one of the finest beaches and outdoor recreation destinations on the East Coast. With its clean, inviting water, miles of shoreline, and mesmerizing views, Crane Beach has been a favorite with the ocean-loving public for generations. Whether you intend to take a refreshing plunge, play in the sand, or just soak up the sun, this unparalleled seaside experience is sure to provide lots of fun â and great memories, too.

Thereâs more to see here than sun and sand. Crane Beach is managed for both recreation and conservation â people and ecology â through careful planning. More than five miles of trails wind through coastal dunes here, which shield inland areas from storm waves and flooding. And, Castle Neck is the site of the North Shoreâs largest pitch pine forest.

Crane Beach is also among the worldâs most important nesting sites for piping plovers, a threatened bird that was nearly hunted to extinction in the 19th century for its eggs and feathers. Crane Beach has been nationally recognized for its successful shorebird protection program. To protect these threatened shorebirds, we ask that you avoid the fenced nesting areas and the wrack, the line of washed-up organic debris where the birds feed and hide.

Trails
5.5 miles of trails traverse dunes and track the beachfront on both the Ipswich Bay and Essex River Estuary sides of the Castle Neck peninsula. Moderate hiking. These trails are part of the Bay Circuit Trail.

When to Visit
Year-round, daily, 8am to sunset. Allow a minimum of 2 hours, 6 hours if also visiting Castle Hill (including Great House or landscape tour) and the Crane Wildlife Refuge. Please note that dogs are welcome at Crane Beach from October 1 through March 30 through our Green Dogs program. Learn more >>

need help getting started collecting camping equipment?

al819604

My fiance and I are registering on Amazon.com for our wedding because we want to build some a supply of camping gear. It's me, him, and our 4 year old. We need a tent, coleman stove, you name it. I just don't know where to start. I want to get quality stuff so any advice would be appreciated to get started. We probably will mostly do "car camping" to start, where you park right near your camp site. If someone has a list of stuff I could register for, that would be great. I remember my mom taking us all the time when we were little, and this is a tradition I would like to carry on. We really need help on choosing the right coleman stove and a tent! We probably will register for cots too. ( a luxury I didn't have as a kid. ha ha.

Answer
A large air bed is better than a cot by far. A small (3-4 man) double wall, free standing dome type tent (with a full fly that reaches the ground, none of those little tiny flies just on the tip) for sleeping only, and a larger screen tent to go over or near the picnic table, where you'll spend a lot of time, would be nice. Folding chairs are sturdier than those fold up chairs if you have room to pack them. You'll want a good thick cooler, and two burner Coleman stove, and decent sleeping bags, not cotton but 100% synthetic. Always get the smallest, least fancy item, you might need, not the most complicated, but the most traditional and not the biggest and most expensive.

Coleman stoves and coolers are good but tents and sleeping bags are not their forte. A better bet would be to register at REI.

This air bed will fit into this tent:

Any suggestions on a camping themed wedding?

Supercalif

I've decided to have a camping themed wedding (me and my husband-to-be LOVE camping). Does anyone have any good ideas for a menu, favors, flowers, decorations, etc? Our budget is really small (round-abouts $4000 for 50 people) so I'm prepared to be doing a lot of DIY-type stuff.
Not a formal event - I'll be wearing a wedding dress but it'll be a short one. We're going to be doing the ceremony and reception at a campground, I just need ideas for a menu, favors, flowers, decorations, etc.

Answer
well i think best in order of events so here i go...
Ceremony:
-at the end of the aisle you could have a ton of candles framing around where you'll stand, or if you want to go all out have a standing arch with flowers in you colors (to keep costs down make sure the flowers you choose from are in season)
- wedding program: either way id do DIY something simple- one sheet in a subtle color of your choice and leave it like that , or roll it up and type it together with cheap, but pretty, ribbon and stick those in a basket for guest to pick up as they go to their seats
-sunblock: you could rent large umbrellas to place over the seated area in case of sun like these:
http://www.apartycenter.com/umbrellas.shtml
or you could give them individual paper parasols (it would be costly, but would double as your party favor
http://www.lunabazaar.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=220
--------------these are not necessary, but are good incentives----------

Reception:
table set-up/decor: for centerpieces you can go to a florist, but i'd 1st check out your garden for filler flowers, like hydrangeas and then you could add extra things like branches coming out of the top, or limes in the vase, or you could just put them in a silver bucket from the dollar store/ dollar tree. Another option would be to buy tons of baby's breath and put them in a vase and then tie a ribbon in your choice of a color around the vase into a nice bow. Just play around with cheap/yet elegant filler flowers until you find something you like.( if you need inspiration just google image whatever flower you choose and add centerpiece to the end. here are some websites with filler flowers:
http://www.flower-arrangement-advisor.com/filler-flowers.html
http://www.save-on-crafts.com/usfocfilandl.html

-LIghting: i know that lighting isn't probably the first thing you think of when it comes to decorating your reception, but nothing can hurt a beautiful wedding reception more the florescent lighting. Good lighting really sets the right tone, so if you can spend the extra money on up-lighting i'd encourage it. But if you can't don't worry candles, and christmas lights are also great for this too, just gather up all christmas lights you have, your parents have, your friends have, your neighbors have,... you get the picture. DON'T buy any lights until you've exhausted your resources, almost everyone has christmas lights, and if you give them some heads up, and ask nicely there really is no reason you should have to buy new ones. One last addition for some lighting would be lanterns like these:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/38899483@N05/3576502155/in/photostream/

- Food if you and your family want to make the entire dinner the night before great!!! However, along with everything else you'll probably have to do that might be a bit much, i think that this is the time that you can call in a caterer
- cake/dessert: a wedding cake is traditional, but if you want to try some

- Favors: here are a couple ideas
~ baby tree(seedlings), or any other plant wedding favor
http://www.plantamemory.com/
~wild flower seeds
~chocolates, maple syrup, candle, candle holder, ect
http://www.myweddingfavors.com/

I really hope this helps
sorry for all the spelling errors,i know there's a ton of them i'm writing this at like 4 in the morning

good luck with everything!

How to calculate pool room ventilation characteristics?

Paulius

Hello,
I need to calculate a hotel pool room's air supply requirements. This is for my University work, at this time i do not have the possibility to consult anyone from there so i am asking for assistance here.

I do not require anything too sophisticated, this pool room is not very significant for me.

I tried looking for calculation methods in ASHRAE, but there calculations seem to be very precise, i don't need that. I need something simple and quick that would roughly estimate the amount of supply air required. I imagine most engineers out there have simple methods that work for them.
In response to the first reply,
I know the basics of these calculations, this is what i've been studying for the past 3,5 years, but pool room calculation is new to me.
I need to maintain negative pressure ofcourse, letting moist air escape to other parts of the building would be bad.

Answer
Edit - - Oops, I just noticed that you might be referring to a swimming pool room and not to billiards (pool) tables. Well, just hold on to the below just in case.
For a swimming pool room you can design for an exhaust sized to induce a 100- 200 ft/min velocity through the door leading into the rest of the building. ASHRAE shows outside purge ventilation of 1/2 cfm per person for swimming areas. As noted below any exhaust may need to be made up with an outdoor supply in some manner, some place. It will be by infiltration somewhere if not accommodated for by design. I do not believe pool rooms are cooled, but they may require heating, depending on the construction. With heated pools the room humidity can be high, but that improves the comfort level in the Winter. There can be condensation problems. ( I personally believe that heated pools are usually too warm.) Current ASHRAE applications guides may include criteria for pool areas. The older ones ( 1969 which I have) do not. I do know that there have been articles published in ASHRAE literature on the topic.
Now for the billiards-
The 1989 ASHRAE ventilation rates have shown for gaming rooms - 25 cfm of outside purge ventilation air per occupant. This would take random smoking into account. If no smoking, the newer codes may allow 10- 15 cfm. For heavy smoking it was 60 cfm.
A design rule of thumb could be one ton of rated refrigeration capacity per 350 sq, ft of floor area. Based on the usual ~ 20 F temperature change in the supply air compared to the room temperature there would be about 1 cfm per sq ft. Because of the nature of the occupancy I would recommend a higher rate of 1 1/2 - 2 cfm.
The fresh ventilation air might be drawn in from large adjacent areas within a building by the employment of an exhaust fan. Or the purge air will need to be brought in really from the outside and tempered to match the room conditions. This will require more cooling capability in the Summer and more heating capacity in the Winter. Unless the main air handling equipment can be arranged and sized for this additional purge ventilation air, a separate makeup air unit may be needed for a large occupancy. This could likewise be a consideration for other types of occupancy and for laboratories utilizing bench -type exhaust hoods or large kitchen hoods. ( They often overlook that the purge or exhaust air has to come from somewhere for the hoods to work properly.)

A little history - in the 1970s during the Arab Oil Crisis, the Federal Government bureaucrats devised new design energy saving criteria for buildings which drastically reduced the outside air purge ventilation rates. As a consequence, a few yeas later the "Sick Building Syndrome" appeared.

What are your "Survival Tips" for College?

Please answer my questions and give me any advice?

1) How are the class rooms like? Are there desks like in highschool?
2) I've heard classes are huge, how do the teachers even keep track of who's in class and what our names are?!
3) How do I stay organized and keep up with everything?
4) Are most classes just teachers giving speeches and students taking notes? Or are the students more involved and doing projects together?

Answer
1) Too many varieties to describe: auditorium-style with fold-down desks, tables with chairs, individual chairs with fold-down desks, long rows of tables, lab benches, etc.

2) They will take attendance the first couple of classes and if you don't show up you're automatically dropped from the class. After that, you're on your own. The professors may or may not learn your name, depending on the size of the class. If you don't show up, they don't care. Just don't expect any sympathy if you don't do well, or have a conflict on a test date or something. The professors will give the benefit of the doubt to students who are always present and involved. Students they never see, not so much.

3. For each class you will be given a syllabus on the first day of class (or before if your professor is technology-adept) which will lay out the plan for homework assignments, papers and/or tests for the entire semester. It is rare that your class will stick exactly to the plan, of course, but you just make modifications as you go along.

4. Mostly lectures, but anything labeled "seminar" will have a lot of student participation. You might get projects assigned (group or solo), but these are done outside the classroom setting as homework. Of course, science class lectures often have laboratory classes too, in which students conduct experiments, usually in pairs.

Alright. I'm making a Beach Themed Bedroom. And I don't have any ideas! Please help?

Carissa K

Well, I have four walls, one is covered with a window, i have a ceiling, a floor, and a loft. I don't know what I should put in my new Beach Room. :(

Answer
Ahh, my favorite design... a beach cottage!

Light, airy cool blue paint colors... distressed 'white' beadboard from the floor to the chair rail, cool blue paint above the chair rail.

Aged/faded denim blue and/or chambray and/or oxford cloth quilt & shams with crisp white high quality cotton bedding.

A large rattan basket or a wicker chair in natural rattan color, or an wicker chair/basket in an aged (scruffy, chipped, dark in the nooks & crannies, not a high gloss finish) white with thick down cushions.

Crisp white cottom curtains at the windows; don't make 'em floor length, you want curtains that'll be stirred by the beach breezes. :-)

In front of the window, think about a large pot w/ tall (like 5' or 6' tall) dried reeds or fluffy grasses to evoke the feel of tall grasses growing on a wind-swept dune (see link, below).

A very, very plain sisal or other fiber rug in the pale, cool tan of beach sand at dawn.

Whatever woods you put in the room in the way of furnishings (bed, end table, dresser, chairs, etc.), consider distressing them first and applying a simple white-wash to 'em.

Regardless of your end-table size, type, etc., consider covering it in a floor length tablecloth (made w/ a sheet, perhaps?) with a second (shorter) cloth over the first one to create that layered, slightly soft & diffused look.

Consider buying at least one, if not a pair, of clear glass lamps (see link, below) and building you own sea scape in 'em... sand, shells, grasses. If you don't have enough stuff of your own, maybe a trip to a local aquarium's gift shop will help you augment the sea scape.

Hope this helps,
      TX Griff

I need help! I am doing my room beach themed!?

beach babe

Hi! I am doing my room beach themed and I don't know
what to do. I have a pink room. I love:
hollister, blue, to surf, and polka dots. If you have Ideas PLEASE tell me! thanks so much!

Answer
ROXY has an AWESOME new bedding print, I think it comes out in Spring. It's blue and green and it' is a super cute stripe on one side and a blue and green dot on the other side. It is soooo cute. I can't find any pictures of it online, but i am a buyer for a surf shop and I have the catalog with the bedding in it, it's just not out yet. I think January 11th is the first ship date, but it is sooo cute!

But since your room is pink, this is really cute.
http://www.swell.com/!8FSpo3GLCikVwTM2iotMLg!/ROXY-FLORAL-COMFORTER-SET?ref=shopzilla

I would bring in a lot of white, white furniture, white curtains, to me white and colors is kind of "beach cottage-ish".

Could you mount your surfboard in your room? That's pretty darn beachy! I would mount it over your bed kind of like a headboard. I love paper lanterns lighting also, you could hang a couple over your bedside tables. blue would look cute with your pink walls. And they are like a giant polka dot!
http://www.partyamerica.com/product/shop+by+theme/luau/decorations/tiki+blossoms+lanterns%2C+2pc.do

Here are some racks that will display your board well- you have to scroll down a little bit once the page loads, it's the L-rack.
http://www.lajollasurfshop.com/wall_racks.htm

Maybe get some cool surf posters and frame them and put them on your walls. (framing them makes them look more like art and not like you just threw them up on the walls).

you could use some of your old Hollister t-shirts and cut the shirt in a square with the logo's in the middle and make throw pillows out of them.

Also if you go to a party supply store, there are lots of fun little luau type decorations you could use as accents. These raffia hula skirts would be really REALLY cute cut and opened and used as a bed skirt, you would need quite a few depending on what size bed you have. Just cut the waist and open it up and tuck it under your mattress, and they come in lots of colors.

This lei garland is cute too, you could drape this over the ends and top of your curtain rod and curtains...

don't go too overboard though!! remember, less is more!

Also, surf companies give us tons of stuff to decorate the store with, and they give it to us EVERY season, you may want to go by your local surf shop and see if they have any stuff from last season that you could take off their hands for them! we've had some really cool big Hurley cardboard logos and Billabong vinyl wall hangings, and Volcom sent us a whole shelving thing once that we never used. Ask around, you never know what people are willing to GIVE you!

Good Luck, Happy Decorating and Happy Holidays!

What was your worse camp experiance?

HawkNelson

I went to a camp and it was just awful. I thought I had friends going along with me, but they didn't say a word to me at all. The adults/counselors were weird and/or mean. The food was crap(but that's camp), the cabin was a spider cave, and this one person hung around me, but she is one of the most annoying people in the world. I hated this camp so bad that I left. A lot of people thought it was selfish and you guys probably will too, but I didn't want to spend the whole week there being a loner. I'm that at home.
I'm 17(so yeah, you can call me a baby for leaving, who hasn't yet?) and I'm not saying what camp it was, there may be people I know on here....

Answer
I only went to Girl Scout camp, and I hated every single experience. The counselors (scout leaders) were nasty, and the food was terrible.

The last night of one of my trips, the leaders told us that if any of us refused to participate in the "show" they were having that night, that we would be punished. I was shy back then and didn't want to get up in front of everyone (several G.S. troops) to sing and dance. Me and several girls wouldn't do it. We were punished by them not allowing us to leave our cabins that night after dinner. The next day, our last day there (we were to leave camp at 6 p.m.) we were served a bowl of stew. Now, I was a VERY picky eater back then, which is not so strange for a kid. I didn't want to eat my dinner, and again, nor did several other girls. We were made to sit at that table until it was time to go. All the while, counselors berrated us and told us to "EAT!!". I couldn't WAIT to get home!

Another trip, I was much younger, we "camped" in a church basement b/c it was raining. At night, I was scared to get up to pee in that gigantic room full of people I didn't know, in my pajamas. I did not have a sleeping bag, so my Mom had given me a trash bag to lay on the floor and a blanket to lay on top of that, with another one to cover me. Anyway, I was so afraid to get up in that dark basement, only to tip-toe over all those girls and leaders. By the time I had decided I really couldn't afford NOT to, it was too late. I peed myself right there and I sat up silently crying, not at all sure what to do and scared to death my Mother would kill me when I got home and she saw or smelled pee in the blankets. I cannot honestly remember what happened, sorry for the let-down, lol

Okay, last story I swear.........One time we were sleeping in large tents outside and it was hotter than he!! and buggier than a freakin' trash dump. I was chewed alive, as were a few other kids, and the leaders brought us up to the medical cabin for treatment. The nurse there made fun of me stating, "I can't believe your mother sent you camping in those skimpy little pajamas! What was she thinking? She didn't know you'd get chewed alive dressed like that?!"

Ugh....I snarl everytime I think of Girl Scouts to this day. Funny though, I like to camp and I am THE least shy person on the face of the earth, lol....who knew? ;-)

How tough is it to navigate on Table Mountain?

Experiment

I read one web site, and it said it was easy, and I wouldn't get lost. Then the next site said I should have a map, a compass and hire a mountain guide for the day.
I was thinking of tackling Skeleton Gorge, or maybe Platteklip Gorge. I can handle the climb, but how tough is the navigation?

Answer
I have hiked up and down Table Mountain (the most beautiful mountain in the world) with my beautiful Staffie (RIP) too many times to mention and from just about every possible route.

Here are some tips:
1) If it's your first time try the 1st or 2nd route up just after the lower cable car station, i.e. the front face of Table Mountain.
The 1st will take you up zig-zagging under the cable car line, the 2nd will take you up through Platteklip Gorge.
These are perfect because it's very easy to orientate yourself.
Once at the top you can either walk towards the top station or alternatively walk towards the dams and museum.
The top of the mountain is quite flat and relatively free of vegetation so it's quite easy to orientate yourself, and the many tracks and paths are well maintained.
This should be enough for 1 day and if you are too tired you can always take the cable car down.
2) Once you have orientated yourself better, you could now try an alternate route up from Camps Bay, Kirstenbosch, (Skeleton Gorge), Newlands among others.
3) Leave early in the morning when the weather is still cool and so that you will have plenty of time to return.
4) There are taps with fresh water at the top (especially the Camps Bay side of the dams) but do take plenty of water.
5) There have been numerous attacks on tourists hiking up the mountain in the last 2 years (Google "attacks" "tourists" "table mountain" etc.),
if you don't have any dogs or other people as protection stick to the most touristy routes and do not take any valuables with you.

enjoy,
but keep safe and perhaps chat with the folks at the lower cable station to get some information about crime in the area.

Camping tips?

prepare4tr

My mum and dad are going camping this weekend for two nights. It's my mum's first time, and I don't think my dad's been in over 20 years. Does anyone have any last minute advice I can give them, things to take, things to do, etc so that they'll think I'm a genius, and also so they don't come home early and ruin my plans.

If it makes a difference, they're going on a camp site with toilet facilities etc on site. And they're taking the dog with them.

Beach camping in Georgia/ Florida/ South Carolina?

Lauren

Hi! My friend and I want to do some beach camping... on the beach. Lots of sights have camping near the beach, but do you know of any places where you can pitch a tent on the beach? I would really appreciate it!

Answer
Camping on beaches can damage natural resources and wildlife nesting areas.

Leave no trace.

1. Key State Park | Long Key

Long Key's campsites are literally right on top of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the only state park where you can leave your campsite, walk 100 feet and catch a permit or bonefish. The park has several nature trails, including one for kayakers that runs through a shallow-water lagoon, and 60 waterfront campsites, each with a picnic table and grill.

Call (305) 664-4815 or go to floridastateparks.org/longkey.

2. Cayo Costa State Park | Boca Grande

Surrounded by water on all sides and only accessible by private boat or public passenger ferry, Cayo Costa boasts splendid isolation. With 9 miles of deserted beach to roam and explore, you won't have to worry about crowds. The warm gulf water is great for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and kayaking. Each tent site can accommodate up to eight people. Showers, toilets and potable water are centrally located. Visitors must bring food and drink, but the extra work is well worth it. This is wild Florida at its best.

Call (941) 964-0375 or go to floridastateparks.org/cayocosta.

3. Fort Clinch State Park | Fernandina Beach

Among Florida's oldest state parks, Fort Clinch has one of the best-preserved 19th century forts in the United States. It never saw any action, but it was occupied by troops during the Civil and Spanish-American wars. Located just north of Fernandina Beach off A1A, this state park has great surf fishing, swimming and a 6-mile trail for hikers and bicyclists. Fort Clinch has two campgrounds, one overlooking the beach and the other in a hardwood hammock overlooking the Amelia River.

Call (904) 277-7274 or go to floridastate parks.org/fortclinch.

4. Grayton Beach State Park | Santa Rosa Beach

Another one of the nation's top beaches, this state park is famous for its sunsets. After you get tired of playing in the emerald-colored water, take off on one of the park's nature trails, which weave through a windswept coastal forest that looks like a set from Lord of the Rings.

Hikers and cyclists have more than 4 miles of trails to explore, and canoeists and kayakers can check out Western Lake, a classic salt marsh. The campground has been called one the finest in Florida, and subsequently, people book 11 months in advance.

Call (850) 231-4210 or go to floridastateparks.org/graytonbeach.

5. Anastasia State Park | St. Augustine

Four miles of unspoiled beach is this state park's top draw. Anastasia hasn't changed much since Spanish explorers made landfall here nearly 500 years ago. Besides great surfing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, the park has an archaeological site where coquina rock was mined to create the nearby Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, the oldest Spanish fortress in America. Explore the dunes and stunted oak hammocks via the nature trail or paddle Salt Run, a tidal salt marsh, in a canoe or kayak. The well-shaded campground is one of the best in the state system.

Call (904) 461-2033 or go to floridastateparks.org/anastasia.

6. Sebastian Inlet State Park | Melbourne Beach

One of the premier surfing and fishing spots on Florida's East Coast, Sebastian Inlet State Park has 3 miles of beachfront real estate. As expected, the park is popular with anglers and wave riders, but the adjacent Indian River Lagoon is also a great place to canoe or kayak. They call this the Treasure Coast because after big storms, beachcombers still find coins washed ashore from the doomed Spanish Treasure Fleet of 1715. The park's tent campground is within easy walking distance of the beach.

Campsites are $23. Call (321) 984-4852 or go to floridastateparks.org/sebastianinlet.

7. Bahia Honda State Park | Big Pine Key

Henry Flagler's railroad from Miami to Key West put this tropical paradise on the map. Twelve miles south of Marathon, this state park has turquoise water, balmy breezes and an endless supply of sunshine that would make Bahia Honda a great location for a five-star resort. Luckily for us, the land has been preserved for the public's use, giving regular folks an easy access point to the Florida Keys' world-famous coral reefs. The park has two boat ramps and three campgrounds, which are a testament to the park's standing as a vacation destination.

Call (305) 872-2353 or go to floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda.

8. T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park | St. Joe

Consistently rated as one of the top beaches in the United States, this Panhandle park has some of the finest white sand in Florida. With access to the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph Bay, canoeists and kayakers can spend a day paddling and never run out of new territory. This coastal barrier peninsula is also an international destination for bird watchers. To date, more than 240 species have been sighted. The park has 119 sites in two campgrounds: The Gulf Breeze area is open and can accommodate large vehicles; the Shady Pines area is more shaded and secluded.

Call (850) 227-1327 or go to floridastateparks.org/stjoseph.

9. Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area | Flagler Beach

Named after Florida folk singer Gamble Rogers, this recreation area has access to both the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, making it a popular spot for boaters, canoeists and kayakers. Sit and watch the shorebirds as they feed on the beach or take a hike along a winding nature trail through a coastal forest of scrub oak and saw palmetto. The 34-site full-service campground overlooks the Atlantic.

Call (386) 517-2086 or go to floridastateparks.org/gamblerogers.

10. Fort De Soto County Park | Tierra Verde

The only county-owned property to make the list, this Pinellas County park has a 238-site, full-service campground that seems to have been created with families in mind. The amenities include picnic tables, grills, fresh water, electricity, washers, dryers, sanitary disposal stations, modern restrooms, showers, play areas and a camp store. The park has more than 7 miles of waterfront recreation, including two fishing piers, nature trails, paved bike trail and a canoe trail.

Call (727) 582-2267 or go to pinellascounty.org/park.

Creative place card ideas?

anonymous

It's for a tropical themed event. I need something to put on the tables so guests know where to sit/what table to sit at. Anything creative other than plain old cards?

Also, where can I buy place cards?

Answer
Floral outlets, wedding planning outlets, business supplies, party supply outlets should have place cards.

OR

Do a Napkin holder band with room for name, decorate with tropical flower.

OR

Make a variety of "tents" place holders using a program such as Print Shop. Create a Postcard that can be folded in half thus creating your tent. Hand write name on tents.

Depending on number of people, choose a variety of graphics that go with your theme. Print on heavy weight paper. Can vary colors.
Cut out, fold.

Table for four would use one set of graphics if you want to theme the tables themselves.
Beach
Sunbathing
Sandcastle
Sunset
Life guards
Light houses
Luau
Music and beach dancing
Beach volley ball
Beach chair, towel, shade
Palm trees, coconut, pineapple
Variety of sea shells
Different pictures of sea shell decorations
Sea gulls and sand pipers
Beach scenes and waves

Can place Candles in sand on/in appropriate dish.
Palm leaf place mat; straw place mats; beach mat for runner on buffet table. New kids sand toys as decor on tables.
Hula dressed Barbie type dolls. Decorated Conch shells.
Palm tree centerpiece. Sand art cake with Non-real seashell decoration. Tint icing sand color, decorate shaped cake on top of larger flat layer, garnish with footprints, sea shells, sand tops, tiny flip flops. Can have table cloths with tiny footprints walking across sand. Enlist small children for this one, beige table cloths with darker beige paint for foot prints.

Have a beach decorated CANVAS for those attending to sign in a darker sand color of course. Can be a door prize or be gifted to the person or organization in whose honor the event is being held.

How to throw a kickass beach birthday party?

Martha

So, in about a month I am throwing a beach birthday party, and I really don't know what to do, since I've never thrown or been to one before... It'll be a group of 13-14 year old girls. I'd like to get this all planned as quickly as possible, because if I leave it to only a week of anticipation then some girls might already have plans.

Answer
Martha -A beach party is not difficult. A few must haves - a volley ball set up, several Frisbees, beach balls things that your guest can goof around with. Boogie boards are also a lot of fun. You can probably rent the volley ball set and boogie boards. Get the beach balls and Frisbees from a dollar store.

Of course you need music. Hopefully you have a portable CD player or ITunes play. bring spare batteries.

If there are tables available have someone get there early to claim space. Get some brightly colored vinyl table cloths - dollar store or WalMart. The top is vinyl and the bottom is felt or something like that. After the party hose them down or wash them in cold water and hang to dry. If there are no tables use several table cloths on the sand for your food and drinks. Remember that you need something to hold down the edges. Several beach umbrellas or a tent would be a good idea to shade the food area and to give your guest a place to get out of the sun. Rent those if you do not have it.

Food is an issue at a beach party because of the sand.
Do cup cakes instead of a cake. Easier to transport in a sealed container. Lots of cold drinks - sodas, sport drinks and water. If the beach has grills you can cook hamburgers and hot dogs. If not bring fried chicken. Take chips out of the bags and put them in large bowls with a snap lid. Most dips need to be kept refrigerated. Half fill a large ice chest with ice. Put your dips in sealed plastic containers and put the containers in the ice. Have large container of hand wipes so your guest can wipe the sand off of their hands before reaching in for food. Make sure you have several large garbage bags to keep trash from scattering on the beach.

Instead of e-mailing your invitations snail mail real invitations. Make your own. Lots of beachy clip art available. Remind your guest to bring sun screen, beach towels, chairs and or umbrellas and beach toys. Since you and your guest live in a beach area they probably have stuff like that.

Even on the Gulf coast the water is still chilly in March so plan on lots of shore activities. How about a sand sculpture competition? You need buckets and shovels and even sand castle kits for your guest - dollar store or Big Lots. That may even be available for rent - just make sure none of the pieces get lost.

Good luck and have a great time.

I am looking for a small portable, or roll up table to take to the beach....?

...the legs screwed on and the table rolled up.
The table looked to be maid of bamboo or some sort of wood like this. The lady said she ordered it from a magazine but I didn't get the name of the magazine. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it!!
