What is the best thing you have ever purchased on eBay?

Doodle

And what made it a good deal? Was it the price? Thanks!

Answer
Trims and studs for sewing and decorating (my daughter does hand painted shirts, jeans)
MOSTLY items for my vintage trailer and for camping. The chairs I got were wonderful and it was free shipping. Got here in a wink of time (that's huge to me) and at least 15.00 UNDER all the prices I've found in stores and at Open Air markets for the same chairs. The aluminum roll up tables too- amazing

What all I need for a small inexpensive wedding and reception?

Jacquie

My fiance is going into the Army and he will be going to boot camp this summer. His recruiter suggested that because we have a daughter due in two weeks and because of possible housing after boot camp that we get married before he goes to boot camp. We are a little tight on money, so I wondered what we need for a small, inexpensive, but nice wedding?

Answer
It depends on what kind of wedding you want. If you are thinking traditional, you will need the following.
1) A license.
Typically $20-$50 depending on where you live. Ask your local courthouse staff for info.
2) An officiant and location to be married.
If you or a family member are a member of a church, typically they will donate both an officiant and the church building, but you are expected to give some type of donation after the wedding. Other groups may also donate the space, but typically not an officiant, which will run about $300 if you have to pay for one.
3) A location for the reception.
Check if the church has a separate room that you can use or a detached space that you could use for free. Alternatively, some open-concept churches can have tables set up in the hall, you get married while people are sitting at their tables. Or, you could have the reception in someone's back yard. Keep in mind that a back-yard event will require tables and chairs that would typically be provided by an indoor location, but that an outside location is also typically much easier to decorate nicely.
4) Dress clothes.
You will need a dress. A traditional dress will run you $100 on ebay, or you may be able to find one at Goodwill or a similar store. Remember that alterations cost extra unless you know someone who would donate the time. Shoes and veil are up to you. He could wear his military formals if he has them (free) or a nice suit. If you want people to stand up with you, ask them to wear something from their closet that would coordinate; think black dresses for women and khakis with black button-up for men. If you want something more formal, go for tuxes, but keep in mind that it will run an extra $150 for a tux.
5) Flowers.
If you get married closer into spring-summer, you can cut bouquets from your flower beds or from a relative/close neighbor. Hydrangeas are particularly beautiful and bountiful during their season. Alternatively, you can make your own real flower bouquet from your local florist/flower seller (ex Walmart) for $25-$40. Some people will suggest fake flowers, but they are actually more expensive in the long run unless you are super-crafty and make your own paper flowers.
6) Cake and other food/drink
Hunt out your family members, friends, etc for anyone they may know who likes to make cakes. A cake from the bakery will run $800+; a friend of a friend will typically do a cake for $250-$300, and if the person is closer, they may be willing to do it as your wedding gift.
As for the rest of the food/drink, keep in mind that, as long as some type of beverage is available, how far you go with food/drink is completely voluntary, and you don't have to do anything at all. On the cheap, you can do chips and dips, barbeque, mini sandwiches or have a potluck meal. The nice part of the wedding isn't based on what food you eat, but how you present it. i.e. chips in nice glass bowls (easy to borrow) instead of straight out of the bag. Keep in mind that you will also need plastic plates, cups, and silverware; think clear or something that matches your theme.
7) Decorations.
Having a dark location will make decorating much easier, as you can lean heavily on lighting (such as white Christmas lights strung into trees and candles on tables). Some ribbons and some potted plants (if you cover the pots in silver wrapping paper and ribbon, you can use really cheap plants). Mirrors that reflect light. Also, be sure to ask around to see what places in your area will loan out for weddings. In my town, the local hardware store will let you borrow things like candle cups and square mirrored tiles (great to romantically reflect candle light) for free.
Alternatively, try to pick a theme that is easy to decorate with cute accessories on the cheap, such as a southern vintage with mason jars/pails or oriental with origami figures strewn about.
Either way, browse websites like theknot.com for ideas that you can modify for your purposes; just don't get too obsessed with the monstrous weddings you will see there.
8) Invitations.
You can get as fancy or simple with these as you like. I've seen really cute flat invitations with the invitation wording printed out on white paper, then the white paper glued onto a colored paper that frames it. Get creative with your computer fonts as well as clip-art with scrolls, etc. Keep in mind that you will need to get envelopes if you are going to mail them (lots of people make cute invitations that don't fit in any envelope known to man). There are also places that you can make free wedding websites, like www.momentville.com, which you can either use for free RSVPs (no postage to pay) or actually do electronic invitations. Remember that the point is to let people know what is going on, but the process really isn't that important.

Hope this helps and congrats on both the new baby and the wedding!

simple wedding centerpieces/table decor?

soon tobe

Have anyone ever seen the diamond table scatter/crystal gems on tables at weddings? Where they with candles? I am thinking of doing this and wanted to know if it was in good taste or does it look cheap and tacky? Thanks

Answer
This is what we're having for our centerpieces. We're using these candle sticks:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/smiley_in_nyc/longstemmedglasscandleholders.jpg

I got them from DollarTree.com

And I'm scattering seashells and dried aqua flowers around them for our beach theme wedding. I'm sure you can use the diamonds instead.

Beach-theme bridal shower decoration ideas please?

sugar swee

My MIL is one of several hosting a bridal shower for a friend's daughter. My MIL is in charge of the decorations. The wedding will be beach-themed, i.e. sand, sea shells, silver-dollars.

My MIL needs some great ideas on how to decorate the main table at the shower. What can she use? Any home-made or bought decorations ideas? Certain flowers got better with beach-theme? Help me brainstorm, please. Any of you great wedding answerers have any awesome ideas? Thanks!
In USA; indoor bridal shower, far from the coast.

Answer
If you are serving cake, it can do double duty as a decoration as well.

Make a regular cake and while the tan icing is still fresh, sprinkle brown sugar on it and decorate with sea shell shaped chocolates. If someone is creative, the cake can be in the shape of a sand castle. The brown sugar and the shells will set a great beach theme. Or, have individual cup cakes made with the icing, brown sugar and a chocolate sea shell and a miniature sand shovel poking out of the top.

You can get fish netting at a craft store to arrange in the center of the tables and decorated with shells bought in bags at the dollar store. You can also find light house figurines, sun glasses and other beach related items at the dollar store to set in with the netting. Also check out the beach toys, too. Craft stores may have miniature Adirondack chairs to decorate. Burn coconut candles so it smells like suntan lotion.

Just walking through a party store, a fabric store, a craft store and the dollar store, will give you the inspiration to help begin decorating for this party.

Set up a beach chair and umbrella for a place for the bride to open her gifts.

Help with decorations for my party?

hayley97

My friend and I are planning this party, which I'm not exactly sure of the theme. She's going kind of crazy because she's never planned a party before and is driving me insane, so I'm pretty stressed out right now... Anyways, we need things like paper lanterns, rugs, and torches. Kind of tropical, beachy theme I suppose. I really don't want it to look cheap and thrown together. Someone help me, please!

Answer
Beach themes are easy to do. You can call it "Surf's Up!" or "Fun in the Sun!"

Set out beach umbrellas in the yard...get lawn chairs....set out tiki torches....hang up a raffia hula skirt around the table area in the front to dress it up....use bamboo place mats.
Blow up a few beach balls and toss those around the yard (have a permanent marker so everyone can sign them later and give away as prizes)

Centerpiece can be pineapple, coconuts, bananas, mangoes grouped together

Get some kids sand pails from dollar store...fill with things like fun beach towel, sunglasses, sun lotion, "lifesaver" candies, sun visors, beachcomber's hat, etc.....tie helium balloons to the handle..place them around for decoration...but either have a "lucky draw" or give away as prizes.

Use Frisbees as holders for paper plates (guests get to keep them as gift)

Make decorations using old jars, fill with sand, stick in a tropical fake flower, some sea shells....or fill with sand and use to hold a tea light candle on top, throw some little shells in there so they show on the sides of the glass jar.

Make huge decoration flip-flops: these can be done from foam board or card stock...even old cardboard and then painted, or covered in striped material or funky fun fur. Make the thongs using ribbons and hot gluing them on...add whatever trims you like or leave plain--a flower at the toe? These can be hung up on a fence or a porch or in a party room....or they can be on a door, etc. (hot glue a hanging ribbon on the backs in 2 spots if paper is thin and needs support on each side.)

Make small fun "surf boards"...use foam board for these....adding contact paper to front works...just cut the foam in the shape of a surf board.

Serving snacks in baskets lined with a napkin is good too--find some driftwood if you can! place that around..make a grouping. Hang little lights up. Hang a life preserver up (or again...use foam board and make one)...to say Welcome. If you have an area to use fabric (get cheap from fabric store clearance section)...cut with pinking shears and hang striped fabric in doorway...or framing poles on a porch, etc. Use bright blue and white...or yellow...(just tape it up there ;)...or staple if you can.

Get a kiddies pool if you don't have one...fill with water and fill with balloons in the blue and yellow and white. (Can play a game later where everyone has to run to pool and sit on a balloon til it pops).

Play "pass the wet sponge"...2 teams each has a bucket of water and big sponge. On go..first person soaks sponge and passes it overhead to person behind and down the line. Last person runs up to another empty container which is 6 feet ahead of the full bucket and squeezes water into it. Then that person takes the first place in line and everyone moves back one. Team who accumulates the most water (say after 2 complete runs) wins....OR..you can mark a line on their "empty buckets" to see who reaches the line first!

Get some sea glass or colored glass stones from the dollar store that come in a netted bag....hot glue them to something sturdy (a heavy piece of slate would be ideal)...but a sturdy plate that won't be used again is ok...as long as it's unbreakable kind. Wash good and use it as a fun platter to serve appetizers on (a plate of deviled eggs?)....mini sandwiches on a bed of lettuce? Decorate sandwiches with some cherry tomatoes, olives, cheese cubes all in between.

Cut an orange in half, put it on a plate, use it to stick party picks of food in.....grapes and cherries (like maraschino cherries) or melon balls or more cheese cubes.

Put together a playlist of beach songs...check the web for best selection. (Beach Boys music a must..same goes for Jimmy Buffet). There's another song by Buster Poindexter "Hot Hot Hot" that'll get things lively.

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of table would be good for a kitchen. I want something that looks good but can handle the hot plates of food and cold glasses without causing damage. I hate glass so that won't work. I also have kids and need it to be cleaned easily. HELP!!!

The worst gift you ever got from your spouse/companion?

heartwhisp

Mine was a cactus on valentine's day that said........"I'm stuck on you!!"

Answer
A dining room table with benches; it fills the entire tiny dining room and doesn't match any of the other furniture.

I recently saw an ad for a dining room table with benches that fit under when not in use. What store has it?

LEO S

Answer
Many of your localized furniture stores will have this because it is affordable and space saving. I got one from Target two years ago and it works great because the bench is placed under the table until needed and it looks great too. I would browse online on target.com, walmart.com, jcpenny.com or ethanallen.com before you look fo yourself, this way you can compare prices and finishes. Best of luck to you!

wedding table number alternatives?

Answer
We named our tables after famous couples.

(Adam & Eve, Barbie & Ken, Anthony & Cleopatra, Mary & Joseph, Mickey & Minnie, etc...)

One EXPENSIVE wedding - Please read?

Q. My fiancé and I are starting to plan our wedding which will be in May 2010. The more I look into things, the more I realize how much things cost, and itâs quite ridiculous.

Here is our situation: I am from Colorado. He is from upstate New York. We live in Colorado together. Our wedding will be held in Rhode Island. BOTH of our families and our friends will be traveling. We want a beach wedding. Not exactly ON the beach, but we want it close for pictures, etc. Most places on the east coast that are in a building are absolutely gorgeous, and with beauty comes the huge expense. I found a gorgeous place to be married and have the reception. Just to rent that, itâs $3,600. That does include the ceremony and reception however, so itâs not too bad. And, you can have your own vendors which will really help the cost; weâre thinking buffet style, which is a lot less expensive.

We feel that since everyone has to travel so far to the wedding, we should have an open bar, which is another huge expense. People are going to be paying so much for plane tickets, hotels, cars, etc, they shouldnât pay for their own drinks, right? I doubt that many people will be willing to travel for our wedding anyways, I dunno.

I plan on doing almost everything myself, ie: decorations, invitations, save the dates, etc.

Iâm just stuck. Please, if you can offer any advice, do. I posted earlier, but thought I should elaborate a little bit. Some of these expenses I canât get around. The east coast is just more expensive I guess. If you have a lot of advice and donât want to write it all, seriously email me your number and Iâll call you, if thatâs ok. I know itâs early to be planning, but it needs to be done, and Iâm just super excited, sooooâ¦. Oh, and we wonât skip on a good photographer. My sisters was amazing and he was almost $5,000 alone!!! I just donât know what to do about all of this and not having the money up front to pay for it. Thank you so much. My email is semajors@gmail.com

Answer
Update: I answered a similar question in a previous post and copied some of my answers here.

You can have a BEAUTIFUL wedding on a budget and no one would be the wiser.

My first tip is DIY, DIY, DIY! There are so many items that you can diy for your wedding if you have time and it becomes so personalized. You can get your wedding party to help you too. You can create save-the-dates, invitations, aisle runner, guestbook, bouquet, boutineers, ring bearer pillow, pew markers, programs, menus, escort cards, table numbers, simple centerpieces, favors, etc. Check out theknot.com for ideas or google "DIY wedding."

RECEPTION: Venue costs can vary. Our banquet room was $700 to rent. I've read of others being $1400 - $4,000. Costs can also depend upon the day your reception is held. Saturday evening receptions are usually more expensive than daytime Saturday, Friday, Sunday, or any other day during the week.

Low-cost places for reception:
- Community center
- Lodge
- College center
- American Legion Hall (I went to the one here for a dance recently and was shocked to discover how big it was and with an all hardwood floor perfect for dancing.)
- Church reception room or fellowship hall (may not allow dancing)

CATERER: The cost of a caterer can vary. My venue offered catering for about $65 per person for a dinner buffet and an open bar. That was excellent. Some can be more expensive. Some can even be cheaper. Some venues will allow you to bring your own alcohol and this can reduce your cost. Tip: One friend of mine negotiated getting charged per drink instead of per person per hour for her alcoholic beverages. That also helped with the cost. Another option for drinks is to do just wine and beer. I don't recommend a cash bar because that's considered tacky. They are your guests, so you don't want them paying for anything.

If you want to go the inexpensive route for food, you can have a brunch or lunch instead of dinner. Sit down meals can be more expensive than buffets or food stations. I prefer buffets/food stations because they are usually less expensive, the food is hot, and I like choices. Sometimes when a waiter brings you a meal at a sit-down, the meal can be cold. Tip: Another option is to just serve cocktails and appetizers around 6pm if that's what you can afford or you can just serve cake and punch.

CAKE: Research and book a bakery or cake baker after attending a cake tasting. You can have a groom's cake if you want, but it isn't necessary. Some couples use Publix for low cost wedding cakes. Tip: Some couples use a dummy layer in their cake to look good for photos and have a sheet cake in the back to serve. You can have a baker make a simple frosted cake for you and purchase parchment flowers, sugar paste flowers and/or shells, fresh flowers, or silk flowers, and decorate the cake simply yourself. Most of the cost is in the decorating.

FLOWERS: Buy flowers wholesale at a website like fiftyflowers.com to save money. They were mentioned in a recent theknot.com article.

GIFTS, DECORATIONS, FAVORS: Check for coupons before you purchase at sites like retailmenot.com BTW, favors are not necessary.

PHOTOGRAPHER: If you hire someone just starting out that person may just want more experience, and can give you a great deal. Check out their portfolio first before you hire.

WEDDING PLANNER: Tip: If you hire an event planning student, that person may just want the experience as well.

GUEST LIST: This can be you biggest saver. Keeping your guest list small will cut your expenses immeasurably.

Best beaches, the Caribbean or Hawaii and why?

angelalovi

I want to see the ocean, paradise.

Answer
Sunset Beach is one of the longest sand beaches in Oahu, running two miles in length and 200-300 feet wide. In the summer when the ocean is calm, this beach has crystal clear water and beautiful white sand. The area is great for swimming, snorkeling, and body boarding/body surfing. During the winter months, this beach is one of the best in the world for surfing.
With waves often between fifteen and twenty feet, Sunset is perfect for yearly international surfing competitions. It is the home of the Triple Crown of Surfing, one of the premier events on the professional surfing tour, and is the preferred site for many other surfing contests. Surfers the world over consider Sunsetâs waves to be among the most dangerous and challenging they have ever ridden.

Newcomers to this beach should be careful of the Sunset Rip, a notorious riptide current off shore. It runs off the inshore reef about midway between Val's Reef and "Kammie Land."
The nostalgic U.S. Coast Guard lighthouse sits atop Makapu`u Point, a towering 600 foot sea cliff that overlooks Makapu`u Beach and Sea Life Park, O`ahuâs world famous marine attraction and educational facility. The beach sits on a slope in between the rugged cliffs and jagged lava rocks. This is an excellent beach, some call it a "paradise," for body surfing and body boarding. Still, be sure to ask lifeguards about conditions as the big surf and its resultant fierce shore break and undertow can be very dangerous.
Poipu is really a series of three white crescents, which hug some of the most awesome turquoise water on Kauaiâs south coast. To give you an idea of how big it is, it starts at the Sheraton Kauai Resort and goes to the Poipu Beach Park.

Excellent for swimming, snorkeling and yes, even surfing â you can find waves in a couple of different places along the beach. Families find it great since the smaller kids can wade in the middle of the crescents, while the bigger kids can check out the surf near the rocks.

At Poipu Beach Park thereâs a lifeguard on duty. The park offers showers, restrooms, picnic tables and shade. Stay the whole day if you like!

And if you donât like the activities, youâll be enamored by the palm fronds swaying in the wind while you lay out or catch up on your latest novel as you hear the gentle surf come to shore as its done for thousands of years.
Which beach do locals vote as best? Hands down it would have to be Lanikai off Mokulua Drive on Oahu. The beach is over a mile long and, yes, bring the camera, this is the most spectacular beach for photographs on the island.

Postcard perfect, the water is amazingly crystal clear. Couple that with the swaying coconut palms and you have the makings of a photo op you wonât soon forget.

Okay, so why is Lanikai Beach so very cool?

Itâs sheltered by a wide, protective offshore reef, the kind you see in those pictures of Fiji. So the shoreline is a natural swimmers paradise. You will find kayaking and outrigger canoeing (gotta try it!), sailing and surfing all within view of this gem in the Pacific.

Or, do like the locals and just come down here for a relaxing day at the beach - tan, read, enjoy the break. This is a gem and much recommended.

And did we mention windsurfing?

Because of the reef, wind- surfing conditions are almost always perfect. You can try your skill by renting a board or taking lessons from the local shops, or grab that camera again for some memories to take back to the mainland.

Lanikai Beach certainly is âheavenly seaâ â translated from Hawaiian.

If you had a beach house???????????????????

WOW GREAT QUESTION!!!
my family already has a beach house...but...

Porch- Would have a beautiful view of the sea, blue plush chairs, seashells on the walls, coffee table, maybe a radio, hardwood flooring, a small, fancy table lamp.

Living Room- Matching blue sofa and chairs, HUUUUUUUGGGGEEEEE wall flat screen, a wii, huge fishtank built into the wall, no cieling, just a huuuuggeee skylight windows, sea paintings, the walls would be a dark blue, the carpet a light blue.

Kitchen-tile flooring, each tile having something to do with the sea (like a shell or a fish) the fridge would be stainless steel, marble countertop, chandelier, stainless steal cabinets, sink with a motion sensor, a high tech oven, stove and dish washer.

Stairs-light blue carpet (from living room)

Upstairs pool room (lol)- HUUUGEEEE inground pool on a balcony so everyone can see that I have a huge pool on a balcony. I would have a smoothie too!

Beach camping in Georgia/ Florida/ South Carolina?

Lauren

Hi! My friend and I want to do some beach camping... on the beach. Lots of sights have camping near the beach, but do you know of any places where you can pitch a tent on the beach? I would really appreciate it!

Answer
Camping on beaches can damage natural resources and wildlife nesting areas.

Leave no trace.

1. Key State Park | Long Key

Long Key's campsites are literally right on top of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the only state park where you can leave your campsite, walk 100 feet and catch a permit or bonefish. The park has several nature trails, including one for kayakers that runs through a shallow-water lagoon, and 60 waterfront campsites, each with a picnic table and grill.

Call (305) 664-4815 or go to floridastateparks.org/longkey.

2. Cayo Costa State Park | Boca Grande

Surrounded by water on all sides and only accessible by private boat or public passenger ferry, Cayo Costa boasts splendid isolation. With 9 miles of deserted beach to roam and explore, you won't have to worry about crowds. The warm gulf water is great for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and kayaking. Each tent site can accommodate up to eight people. Showers, toilets and potable water are centrally located. Visitors must bring food and drink, but the extra work is well worth it. This is wild Florida at its best.

Call (941) 964-0375 or go to floridastateparks.org/cayocosta.

3. Fort Clinch State Park | Fernandina Beach

Among Florida's oldest state parks, Fort Clinch has one of the best-preserved 19th century forts in the United States. It never saw any action, but it was occupied by troops during the Civil and Spanish-American wars. Located just north of Fernandina Beach off A1A, this state park has great surf fishing, swimming and a 6-mile trail for hikers and bicyclists. Fort Clinch has two campgrounds, one overlooking the beach and the other in a hardwood hammock overlooking the Amelia River.

Call (904) 277-7274 or go to floridastate parks.org/fortclinch.

4. Grayton Beach State Park | Santa Rosa Beach

Another one of the nation's top beaches, this state park is famous for its sunsets. After you get tired of playing in the emerald-colored water, take off on one of the park's nature trails, which weave through a windswept coastal forest that looks like a set from Lord of the Rings.

Hikers and cyclists have more than 4 miles of trails to explore, and canoeists and kayakers can check out Western Lake, a classic salt marsh. The campground has been called one the finest in Florida, and subsequently, people book 11 months in advance.

Call (850) 231-4210 or go to floridastateparks.org/graytonbeach.

5. Anastasia State Park | St. Augustine

Four miles of unspoiled beach is this state park's top draw. Anastasia hasn't changed much since Spanish explorers made landfall here nearly 500 years ago. Besides great surfing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, the park has an archaeological site where coquina rock was mined to create the nearby Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, the oldest Spanish fortress in America. Explore the dunes and stunted oak hammocks via the nature trail or paddle Salt Run, a tidal salt marsh, in a canoe or kayak. The well-shaded campground is one of the best in the state system.

Call (904) 461-2033 or go to floridastateparks.org/anastasia.

6. Sebastian Inlet State Park | Melbourne Beach

One of the premier surfing and fishing spots on Florida's East Coast, Sebastian Inlet State Park has 3 miles of beachfront real estate. As expected, the park is popular with anglers and wave riders, but the adjacent Indian River Lagoon is also a great place to canoe or kayak. They call this the Treasure Coast because after big storms, beachcombers still find coins washed ashore from the doomed Spanish Treasure Fleet of 1715. The park's tent campground is within easy walking distance of the beach.

Campsites are $23. Call (321) 984-4852 or go to floridastateparks.org/sebastianinlet.

7. Bahia Honda State Park | Big Pine Key

Henry Flagler's railroad from Miami to Key West put this tropical paradise on the map. Twelve miles south of Marathon, this state park has turquoise water, balmy breezes and an endless supply of sunshine that would make Bahia Honda a great location for a five-star resort. Luckily for us, the land has been preserved for the public's use, giving regular folks an easy access point to the Florida Keys' world-famous coral reefs. The park has two boat ramps and three campgrounds, which are a testament to the park's standing as a vacation destination.

Call (305) 872-2353 or go to floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda.

8. T. H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park | St. Joe

Consistently rated as one of the top beaches in the United States, this Panhandle park has some of the finest white sand in Florida. With access to the Gulf of Mexico and St. Joseph Bay, canoeists and kayakers can spend a day paddling and never run out of new territory. This coastal barrier peninsula is also an international destination for bird watchers. To date, more than 240 species have been sighted. The park has 119 sites in two campgrounds: The Gulf Breeze area is open and can accommodate large vehicles; the Shady Pines area is more shaded and secluded.

Cast aluminum or cast iron outdoor patio furniture. ?

Bonjour!

I want to get a bistro set for our front courtyard and I don't know which material to pick. I heard cast aluminum is rust resistant and lasts longer. However, I live in a very windy area, and I am afraid it won't be heavy enough. There's too much concrete going on in that area, so I don't want concrete furniture, either. Any opinions or suggestions?

Answer
Aluminium is much lighter than cast iron, but you would still need hurricane force winds to shift it. As long as the base of the table is as wide as the top, you shouldn't have any problem with the wind tipping it over. The aluminum is also much easier to move around for rearranging.
