The worst gift you ever got from your spouse/companion?

heartwhisp

Mine was a cactus on valentine's day that said........"I'm stuck on you!!"

Answer
A dining room table with benches; it fills the entire tiny dining room and doesn't match any of the other furniture.

I recently saw an ad for a dining room table with benches that fit under when not in use. What store has it?

LEO S

Answer
Many of your localized furniture stores will have this because it is affordable and space saving. I got one from Target two years ago and it works great because the bench is placed under the table until needed and it looks great too. I would browse online on target.com, walmart.com, jcpenny.com or ethanallen.com before you look fo yourself, this way you can compare prices and finishes. Best of luck to you!

I have antique brown furniture in my bedroom and I want to re-decorate and make it a beach cottage theme?

I can change everything else, the head board the wall paint and decor but the furniture I cant change, the furniture is..... a make up table, a high boy cabinet with drawers, a wide dresser, another taller skinnier dresser, a desk that folds down to a desk and two end tables next to the bed. Any suggestions?

Answer
Although you say antique, if the furniture doesnt have a lot of detail in it, it should be easy enough to sand and paint.

Magandang beach/pool resort sa batangas o laguna?

Not that expensive. Yung napuntahan niyo na. Not from the net!

Answer
I went to La Triel in Solemar Subdivision in Pansol, Calamba Laguna and I rate this to be the best private resort in this part of town. I have not blogged about it yet, but will soon share my story and photos. It is a beautiful modern Zen inspired private home rented out as a resort. They have 6 rooms for guests, all beautifully appointed. The pool is clean and inviting, with a mini slide onto the hot spring water. There are cozy tables and chairs around the pool, plus a billiard table. A karaoke is at the corner for the guests' use. They charged us P26,000 for exclusive use of the entire house-resort for 24 hours, and allowed us to bring food and drinks. You can contact La Triel at phone number 09089929893.

In Batangas, the best destination is Laiya where there are several options - - different resorts, from the high end Acuatico with its beautiful infinity pool, to cottages owned by residents along the beach that you can rent cheaper than those in resorts, if you don't mind living in the residential communities.

Alternatively, you may want to go to Matabungkay, the prime destination years ago. I visited Matabungkay recentl and found it nice enough to go back to, and recommend to friends.

Wanting to know more about a strange bench mounted Skil saw? Is it custom made, or a jig, or something alien?

a.herrig

I was at an auction recently where I came across a strange Skil saw that I had never seen before. I would like to think I know a little more about power tools than most, however this one has me puzzled. I have never seen anything like it. It appeared to be a standard style Skil brand hand held circular saw. The strange part was the "mount." It was a piece of angle iron, oriented perpendicular to the blade, about 2 feet wide or so with holes drilled so that it could mount to a work surface via bolts/screws. From the angle iron a piece of square tubing (1 1/2" maybe) extended straight back about a foot where it was joined by a pivoting pin to another piece of the same square tubing of similar length and size. That piece extended forward to mount to the saw itself. Also, the shoe (or base plate) of the saw had been removed or was never a part of the saw if it was manufactured with the mount. The "arm" formed by the square tubing appeared to make it possible to pull the saw towards the user to crosscut, similar to a radial arm saws motion. Also, the blade on this particular saw was a standard 7" diamond smooth rim tile cutting blade. It did not look homemade, but that doesn't mean it wasn't. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to know more about it. Google searches turned up nothing for me. I didn't think to get any model numbers while I was there. Thanks for your input!

Answer
===== what you saw was a specialty saw that was hand crafted for repetitive work == table mounted saw photos at this site could give you some ideas to mount your ""skil"" or circular saw [[[[ ====http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=ytff-tyc&va=table+mounted+circular+saws ======== you may find this helpful .....

How can i make money from garage projects?

InvdrZim

i literally have every tool:

welder
drill press
router
bench grinder
lathe
band saw
table saw
etc...and far more!

Answer
Your garage sounds like mine.

My biggest problem is how to turn down work, as I am far busier than I would like to be, and everyone wants me to make things for them.

Try making some things for yourself, or for friends. Nice cabinets, small furniture, or a sign for your shop. Once you have a few things made, assuming the quality is great, get some good photos and start spreading the word. Pretty soon, people will say "OH! I know a guy who needs a custom desk for his new business." or "My brother is opening a new store and needs a sign and some shelves."

Pretty soon, word gets out that you are the guy with all the tools, and you make awesome stuff, and you will be in my shoes.

Good luck!

Does my crush like me?

LifeOfTheP

Does my crush like me even though he has a gf (dance was before his gf and the other things were after)
He asked me to dance at a dance
Kept smiling at me during the 4 dances
Told me my hair smelt good
Haven't talked to him really so idk why he asked me to dance :)
Looks at me from across the table/room
Didn't sit beside me like he was supposed to but looked at me across the room
Says I can't help but flirt with you
Kept pushing my chair away and closer towards him
Sang to me while we danced;)
he doesnt treat any other girl that way( well maybe his gf he met at camp)
School started and now he kinda looks at me and makes me mess up counting in lab the other day. And he was looking at me to.
And I am confused by these:

He got a gf during summer but I don't think he knows I like him
Seems shy around me ever since school started again
He makes me mess up my counting in lab
Smiles at me
And yesterday he waited behind the door and scared me. Idk if he wanted to scare someone else but he smiled when he scared me though.
He doesn't really talk about his gf
Some of This was before he had a gf and some after Can guys still like someone if they are dating. btw we are in highschool so we are not to young to date

Answer
He has a girlfriend so even if he breaks up with her for you, he will surely do the same to you. He might like you but you might not be the only one and keep in mind that he has a girl :( I don't think you should get your hopes up

Is this a Good Deal on Bluebird Bus Conversion to an RV (motorhome)?

Jason A

I am looking to buy a 1979 Bluebird flat nosed Bus Conversion. Let me give you some details about the bus, Ill copy and paste from the Gentleman's add....1979 Bluebird bus completely converted to nice motor home. 5 year old 427 Chevrolet gas engine (completely rebuilt) 4000 watt two year old gas generator, 2 year old easy hook up tow hitch, 30 or 50 amp. electric, two roof top air conditioners (one runs on 30 amp and both run on 50 amp.) Satellite dish system, Long heavy duty electrical cord included, 20 inch TV installed in cupboard above driver's/passenger's seats, driver's seat and passenger's bucket seats like new. propane two burner stove with grill and small oven, wall mounted propane heater, quick recovery hot water heater, 30 gallon fresh water tank, large holding tank with fittings and hose for emptying tank (storage for hose on side of motor home) 10 cubic ft. refrigerator with freezer, private bathroom with sink and flush commode and lots of storage, private bedroom with queen size bed, with lots of storage, livingroom storage benches convert to full size bed (includes full size easy inflate air mattress), large microwave oven, lots of counter space and deep cupboards and drawers, kitchen table leaf extends table to seat four people comfortably (includes four folding chairs in excellent condition), privacy roll down thermal backed shades for front of motor home, motor home shades on other windows, Large easy set-up attachable awning..... Ok so there is the add. i went to look at it and it does look like it is in really great shape, and truly if i didnt see the outside i would never know that I wasnt in an expensive motor home...the inside was very well done. Apparently it was a campaign bus for one of the state senators at some point and time...anyhow they are asking 8000 and it had just come down from 10k a few weeks ago. The gentleman has lost a leg and is elderly I think is just looking to get rid of it and not really make anything on it...Is this a fair priced or am I out of whack?
really im not sure if it has separate tanks for black and gray water but everything else seems to be done properly so im guessing yes, thats a question i need to ask. I cant imagine it would be all that much more to have an additional tank put in. All he showed me with the sewer was how it hooked up
I just looked at a diagram on the plumbing. Only has one dump valve so definately no grey water tank. However there is no shower, so maybe the impact isnt all that great.

Answer
Doesn't sound too bad for $8,000. The 30 gallon fresh water tank won't take you far if you're dry camping somewhere though. It doesn't say if it has separate holding tanks for grey and black water. That would be a concern.

Camping tips?

My mum and dad are going camping this weekend for two nights. It's my mum's first time, and I don't think my dad's been in over 20 years. Does anyone have any last minute advice I can give them, things to take, things to do, etc so that they'll think I'm a genius, and also so they don't come home early and ruin my plans.

If it makes a difference, they're going on a camp site with toilet facilities etc on site. And they're taking the dog with them.

Going camping question?

Pivoine

I totally hate camping, the idea of it, and all. I got 3 kids and a hubby who love it. How can I prepare for it, so I don't add to the stress? I am doing this for them, obviously, I am such a total no camping person. Any hints?

Answer
A little planning and the right equipment should ease your pain. Challenge your family to sway you to their way of thinking. Mom is giving up her automatic dishwasher, comfy house, and cable TV to accommodate their desire to camp, they should make it as painless for you as possible.

Make sure you have a comfy bed, you're putting up with this and you deserve a nice 8" inflatable mattress. Hubby better provide a powered blower to inflate it or make him blow it up himself.

Let the camping enthusiasts cook and do dishes. Plan meals they can handle and create the minimum amount of dirty dishes. If they insist on serving burned hot dogs on a stick, make sure you've packed a can of chili, sauerkraut, or your other favorite condiment to cover the char. Foil dinners are easy and can be tasty. A little internet research will lead to a plethora of kid friendly camping meals that don't involve pointy sticks, wieners, or marshmallows.

Enjoying the outdoors does not mean you have to romp through the woods with the rest of the family. Lounge in the sunbeams with a good book or just nap.

Often, weekends at camp are the only non-rushed times families have together. Take advantage of this and just talk with the family, sitting at the picnic table playing a board game or cards is relaxing and a good way to socialize. Teach the kids one of your favorite games from your youth, how many computer savvy kids know how to play Kick The Can or Ghost In The Graveyard.

About american people, and go camping. ¿Is it true that?

A rock climbing sntructur comment to me that "go camping" for americans means, put inside a big truck sleeping bags, tent, car-minirefrigerator (for the beers and cokes), car-minioven(for the pancakes), portable oven, voltaje adapter (in order to recharge the ipod battery and laptop battery), foldable chairs and tables.

Then drive 2 o 3 hours, walk 20 or 30 meters (70 yards) away from the truck, and settle the tent.

is it true, or that just happen with rich families that "go camping" ?

Answer
Somewhat true, but many of us "Car Camp" with primitive equipment. Tents, Ice coolers for food, Gas lanterns. We are in many areas, limited to pristine campgrounds with remote, backpacking campsites. Many of us camp in State Parks with many, many campsites with vehicle access. Basically a parking spot in the woods with a place to set up your tent. Picnic table and fire ring is provided. The campsites may or may not be secluded from the campsite next to yours. There is also a good chance that a huge Motor-home may pull into the site next to yours and string Christmas lights up and run an air condition or a generator . Not what I consider camping. There are many National Parks with pack packing and mountain climbing, but unless you live close or plan to travel three days to get there, we don't get to enjoy that luxury.

Any Table Number Alternatives?

Ashley

I am having a destination wedding in mid-october but having a nice reception in our city the first week of november with about 250 people. Rather than just table numbers, I wanted to do something creative. My reception here is fall themed ( Manzanita tree centerpieces and autumn colors and leaves on the table) so I dont want to do any beach names or anything because it really doesnt go with the reception theme. Any ideas?

Answer
First, the only trouble with not having table numbers (especially with a party which has 250 people - that's at least 25 tables, right?) is that the numbers show people they're on the right track...I'm sitting at table 13 and there's 10 and 11 so I know I'm close. Rather than saying I'm sitting at "flower" and there's "tree" and "rock" and "sky" so where do I go from there?

That being said, things you can do...continue your fall theme: Types of trees with the cards being the leaves; types of apples or pumpkins or squash; shades of fall colors... or you could do something that is relevant to you and your husband: Cities you have visited or want to visit; names of people you met at your wedding; celebrities whose birthdays fell on your wedding day (if there aren't enough, you can use the day of your party or use both months)

Need Help on Table / Seating Assignments?

Say What?

I'm down to the last details of my wedding planning, and I'm stumped on the seating assignments / arrangements. I'm having a beach themed wedding and I purchased mini picture frames that will serve as seating assignment and favors. http://www.theweddingoutlet.com/Wedding-Themes/Beach-Wedding/Shell-Placecard-Holder

I was going to purchase paper table number sets and arrange seating by table number. However, my fiance wants to incorporate hockey into the theme because he plays ice hockey and is a die hard fan. He wants to use players names for the tables instead of numbers. How would I do this? Do they have web sites where you can have them print whatever you want instead of just pre-printed numbers?

Also, how do you let everyone know what table number they are assigned to? I was thinking of having a chart on the same table as the guest book with each person's name alphabetized and table number. Is that tacky, or should I assign someone to guide the guests to their seats? How did you handle your seating arrangements / assignments if you had or are having any?

Also, we are having a beach ceremony and there is limited seating. I want to assign seats to family, children and the elderly. It will likely be somewhat windy. How should I assign seating? I need something that will not blow away and will not ruin the chairs. Any ideas?

Answer
You can create a table seating chart with some hockey sticks on the corners or something to add to the theme. Or find little hockey puck name card holders.
The easiest way is to print namecards with the table number ON them. Dont go to to much expense.
You set the name cards up on a table in the entry of the room so people can see where they are sitting, then on the tabel you put table numbers, see if you can find online hocket stick table number holders. Or you can buy a bunch of pucks and put table numbers on them or something

How do I save money on a beach theme wedding reception?

sboyd_hfcc

My fiancé and I are going to Hawaii for are wedding ceremony. There will be 8 guest. We want to have are reception in Michigan. Im in love with elegance with a touch of Hawaii (without being cheesy) to give our guest a filling of actually being there.

Answer
White or pastel table linens, simple flower arrangements, because tropical flowers are not cheap.
You can buy bags of shells online...just Google "wedding shells" and you'll be surprised how many stores there are. Good for table decor.
A simple cake with tropical flowers, and "luau-ish" food and you're all set.
The leis are a nice idea too. You can do Hawaiian without doing cheesy Hawaiian.

Remedy for stain in white laminated table?

Snoop

Hi all,

I stayed a hotel recently and beer/bourbon was spilt on the white laminated kitchen bench surface over night by accident and it has been absorbed into the bench. The hotel is now trying to make me pay for it, surely there are products that could clean such stains? Could the use of a cleaning product with bleach in it remove the stains?

If you do know of such products, please name them and the main type of chemical used in the cleaning product.

Thank you.

Answer
letting bleach soak into it just as the beer/bourbon did should fix it. Accidents happen and hotels are aware of that or they would offer you insurance like they do when you rent a car. Don't pay. Challenge the charge if they are billing your credit card.

HELP, I can't open my beer! :(?

Q. I'm about 5 feet tall and I only weigh 90 pounds and I have no muscle whatsoever. I don't have a bottle opener or a lighter, I'm not using my teeth, but I've tried opening it on the table and I don't think I'm strong enough to get it to open. xD Help because I really want this tonight.
not funny!! :(
OMG i just opened it! :D thanks everyone

Answer
tilt your cap on the side of the bench and hit the top:)

Me and my wife are going to Disney World next month and were trying to find info about hotels?

Fallujah M

We want to see both firework shows at MK and at Epcot. We will be there only for 2 days and 2 nights and I want to make is as romantic as possible. I also want something with a kitchen and huge patio...something big enough to where I can set up a table and some chairs and watch the fireworks with my woman. Obviously depending on where our hotel is we'll only be able to see one. Which one do you think has the best show and why? Which hotels would you suggest from a romance aspect and which ones have a kitchen? Price is not a problem. Your help is truly appreciated as I'm frankly tired of researching this ish. I've heard the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian and the Contemporary are the best ones to check out.

Answer
The fireworks are MK and Epcot are not like the firework shows you see at your local city park on the fourth of july. They are really shows with music, lightshows and other aspects thrown in. They are best viewed from inside the park.

That being deluxe resorts located near the Magic Kingdom are the only ones that have a view of the fireworks at MK and they also pipe the music to the resorts so guest can enjoy the soundtrack. So your resort choices are limited to Contemporary, Polynesian, grand Floridian and wilderness lodge and campground. All Deluxe hotel rooms at these hotels have balconeys. However, you pay extra and have to request a Magic Kingdom view room. You mentioned a patio and kitchen. The only spot for that is Bay Lake Tower where they have vacation villas with kitchens.

Epcot fireworks really need to be seen from inside the park. That way you can see the lazers, the globe and the countries as they light up. Its really spectacular. The only resorts you can really see the Epcot Fireworks are Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin and the Yaucht and beach club resorts. Unlike the MK resorts the music is not piped in and the view is not spot on. You basically get a good view of the ariels but its not like watching a firework show.

Since price is not an issue. I would get a one bedroom villa at Bay Lake Tower facing Magic Kingdom.

Could somebody please let ?

me know how many KM there are between Hot Bay and Fish Hoek in Cape Town.
How long will it take by car?
Thank you.

Answer
Fish Hoek is a beach town situated along the False Bay coastal road from Cape Point (via Simonstown) to Muizenberg. This is only 30 to 40 minutes drive from Cape Town CBD, the Table Mountain cable station and the V&A Waterfront. Fish Hoek is nestled between two mountains and two oceans â against one of these Fish Hoek mountains you will find our 4 star superior self catering accommodation.

This is a safe and private retreat, an excellent base from which to explore Cape Town and its nearby gems. Our accommodation boast spectacular sea and mountain views, and is within walking distance to the beautiful white sandy beach and town of Fish Hoek.

Fish Hoek has a busy main street lined with market stalls. The long sandy beach is one of the safest in the Cape for bathing and body boarding and when the wind picks up, hobie-cats and windsurfers take to the waves. From July to October whales come into Fish Hoek bay and loll around just 50 metres from the shore in preparation for mating and giving birth. Huge schools of dolphins are also sometimes seen.

Read any good books lately?

What horse books have you read lately?

Doesn't matter if they were on training, a famous horse, fiction, etc.

What did you read and what was your opinion on it?

Just finished "A Pony in the Picture" not that it was a hard read :P and I'd say it is the perfect coffee table book for any horse lover.

Trying to get through "Naked Liberty" but the writer is an awful writer. She has a learning disability and I respect her overcoming that to write a book, but in turning down the assistance of professional writers, she's put out a book that is difficult to follow and make sense of.

"Dark Rider" By Kathrynn Dennis - Total historical romance CHEESE centred around horses. I would say that THIS is the perfect beach book. LOL

Can I bring my rats camping with me for 3 days?

K-9Kara

We are going camping for 3 days at a campground only 20 minutes away, I have to pet rats. My moms afriad that they will stink up the trailor but if I sat them on the picnic table under the canopy during the day and bring them in at night they should be ok. We have plenty of room in the trailor for the cage. Should we bring them or leave them at home?

Answer
If you are going camping the last thing you want to do is keep your pets outdoors, especially at night. The next morning they will not be there. My husband and I took our cat camping many times in the RV. We had his litter box, which we cleaned regularly and it never smelled in there. If you keep them caged, then bring them. But like I said, don't even leave them outside without their cage in the daytime. If other campers see rats, they will either alert the campground office or take matters into their own hands. Most people think of pets as dogs and cats...not rats.

What kinds of food should I bring camping with me?

SuFi ChIcK

going camping for the first time alone with my bf and this is our first time going with out our parents or family.

Answer
Assuming TENT CAMPING! If you are taking a Trailer/RV you can take just about anything you desire!

Short trip car> Bread, Peanut butter and jelly, canned stew and vegetables, tea/instant coffee, at least 2 gallons of drinking water, grate/grill for cooking over fire, Kitchen matches with the striker from the box in a plastic bag to protect from moisture, Instant potatoes, box Macaroni & Cheese, Canned Baked Beans. Instant Oatmeal in whatever flavors you desire. Salt and pepper in sealed plastic containers, Sugar and /or any other seasonings likewise in sealed containers. A coffee pot, for heating water for coffee or tea. Anything else you like, which does not absolutely require refrigeration. Ice chest and camp stove are optional but highly recommended! Cold Soda or beer is definitely a plus!

Longer trip car> Ice chest and camp stove become mandatory! But that also allows more flexibility in meal plans, with ice chest and stove you can take eggs, butter and milk to prepare a more traditional breakfast including if you desire Bacon! You can also take steak and other meats to grill ( do not forget to take suitable seasonings!) and if space permits a large cast griddle or fry pan you can take pancake mix (requires egg and milk, and do not forget the spatula!) Take along 2, 10 quart metal buckets to be your wash basins and I recommend Dawn brand dish soap and Scotch Bright Pads to clean up those greasy pots and pans. At least 2 flat hot pads and an oven glove. Durable plastic plates and glasses, and plastic insulated mugs and a set of flatware including a sharp (steak) knife for each person and serving spoons and forks.

Other important items: You will need a multi-purpose pocket knife ( Swiss Army style - not necessarily brand - and make sure it is SHARP and well lubricated ) Trash Bags. A 6 way screwdriver, a small hatchet with sheath, Take lots of 5/32" nylon line and a couple of pocket lighters when you cut a length of the line seal the end with the lighter so it will not fray. A pack of thumb size candles for fire starting. Pocket Flashlights.

A table lantern - Colman White Gas AKA "Camp Fuel" lantern or battery - Coleman Lanterns last forever and produce vast amounts of bright white light, but they require a steady supply of fuel, Mantels and the occasional replacement Generator and Globe, if you choose the Coleman Lantern be sure to practice lighting it several times during daylight in an outdoor location well away from anything flammable and NEVER EVER EVEN THINK ABOUT LIGHTING IT INSIDE OF YOUR TENT OR ANY OTHER STRUCTURE!!!!!)

Take about twice as many towels as you might want at first thought, 1 wash cloth per person plus 1 dish cloth are sufficient. Pack large zip-lock bags to carry wet clothing / swimwear in.
Collapsible Chairs and camp stools are great but don't break the bank to buy them for your first trip.

Take Clothing suitable for Winter and Rainy Conditions in the area where you will be camping! (Ponchos! And heavy coats! ) Nothing worse than getting frozen stiff because the weatherman blew it! This includes a Knit Cap which covers your ears if the temperature could possibly fall below 50 Degrees F!

Take good warm sleeping bags (rated ZERO Degrees F ) which can be joined together and AIR MATTRESSES! One for each person and a SPARE! Do not even think about camping without air mattresses!

Please plan on purchasing your firewood where you camp to avoid moving around BAD Insects! Take newspaper in a plastic bag for fire starting too.

If Space and Funds permit a set of poles and a camp Fly (10'X10' Tarp) are very desirable to keep the table area dry in the event of rain ( minimum 6 poles and a dozen 14' long lines, stakes, S-Hooks and O-rings - the O-ring prevents sharp edges on the Stake from damaging the line and the S-Hook makes it real easy to attach to the tarp eyes.

Proper equipment and preparation make all the difference between comfortably riding out the storm when camping and being cold wet and miserable when the unexpected .

Have Fun!

wut should i do? My bday is 2weeks away i wanna go to the beach but my mom wants to have a family dinner...?

lady J

i wanna go to the beach with my best friend her boyfriend and my boyfriend just for the weekend! my mom is really overprotective nd she wants to have a family dinner with me her and my grandparents WTF!!!

Answer
A bummer. Overprotective patents are so common these days that the term overprotective might even lose the *over* part. :-(

Why don't you do this: invite your friends to the dinner. Tell them your friends are as important to you as your family. If they argue, you ask them who do *they* think makes you more happy, parents that force you to have their dinner on your own birthday or friends that would do fun stuff that you like doing. If it all fails, you could either sit through the dull evening at the dinner table, or you could put up a big fight.

Or... Invite them to the beach. Tell them you want dinner on the beach. ;-)

Either way, if you let them get used to your submissiveness, they will push harder and harder (all 'in the interest of your own happiness').

Remember this, as well. Don't let them get at you before your birthday. If you get to go to the beach, don't let them give you any crap about it and spoil the evening. If they do, tell your friends and BF about it, so they won't feel awkward.

Need some help with my homework about skydiving?

Lewis

i need three names of famous people who are well known for skydiving

Answer
the article at the web page (below) identifies a few "original" skydivers

It might be surprising to learn that parachuting may have begun prior to 90 B.C. in China. China's renowned historian, Ssuma Ch'ien studied ancient texts, which told the story of Emperor Shun whose father was trying to kill him. He fled into a granary tower, which his father set ablaze. The Emperor tied several large conical straw hats together and jumped out of the tower, the hats serving as a parachute, and landed safely on the ground.

A book published in 1214 entitled "Lacquer Table History" by Yo K'o relates an episode that occurred in Canton in the 1100's, when an Arab stole one leg of a golden lacquered table. He escaped by climbing to the top of a mosque's very tall minaret and jumped, holding onto two umbrellas without handles. He reached the ground without injury. (The Chinese also invented the first umbrellas.)

There is also documentary evidence the Chinese and Thai acrobats used some form of a parachute device for entertaining stunts in the Chinese Imperial Court. Because of their feats, the first European construction of a parachute-like device was made during the reign of King Louis XIV of France in the 1680's.

It was Joseph Montgolfier of France, who in the late 18th century, first gave significant meaning to the modern use of the parachute by testing his device while jumping out of a hot air balloon. His success led to a plethora of balloonist stunt jumpers using parachutes.

With the high incidence of hot air balloon accidents that were occurring at the time, the parachute gained impetus as a mechanism to save lives. Famous balloonist Jean Pierre Blanchard, the first person to cross over the English Channel in one, used the parachute to make several successful jumps.

After Wilbur and Orville's airplane success, the modern parachute and skydiving came into its own. The first skydiver, although this is disputed, was Grant Morton who, in 1911, jumped from a Wright Model B airplane over Venice Beach, California using a folded silk parachute. He threw the canopy into the air and landed safely.

The parachutes used at the time were "automatic," meaning they were either inflated before a jump or pulled into the airstream from a box attached to the jump-off platform. This static type of parachute proved unsafe for escape from a moving jump-off platform. This then led to the ripcord parachute invented by Leo Stevens in 1908. For some reason, it didn't come into general use until 1920.

The next important invention, patented in 1911, was a flexible parachute made by an Italian man, Pino. The skydiver wore the parachute as a backpack. There was also a specially designed leather cap, which would open into a smaller parachute. The pilot chute pulled off the "hat" during a jump, and the larger parachute in the backpack opened.

After World War II, there was a plethora of parachutes no longer needed by the military. Experienced paratroopers started jumping again for the sheer pleasure of it all, and skydiving as a recreational and competitive sport was born.

As airplanes become more and more aeronautically advanced, the parachute continues to undergo functional and design changes to keep up. It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for skydiving enthusiasts â no doubt, the changes will be nothing less than spectacular.

can anyone recommend a place to stay at table rock lake near branson, mo?

riley l.

Answer
Many people will probably tell you, Chateau on the Lake, but really I think that place is more fancy name than fancy place. If you're staying for an extended time, why not try a condo?

They've also opened a Hilton Hotel at the Branson Landing, which I hear is nice.

I would say if you want a nice place, don't stay at any hotel that right on Highway 76. Most of those are little po-dunk motels that bank off their convenience to the strip. (The second Web site has some lodging listings near the lake.)

Staying on the lake itself, I think you'll do well with a condo, or even camping... if you're up for that.

Where in Missouri is good for camping and activities?

My husband and I are 30 and 26 respectively and our anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. Considering I have been laid off we need to keep the celebration modest, but would like to do something. Any ideas besides the obvious free way to celebrate an anniversary :) ?

I need plans to build a picnik table.?

Metal

I have looked on the internet and can't find any. The want you to buy theres. I need a big one too. Maybe for about 10 or more people. I want to make it out of treated wood. Are there any carpenters out there?

Answer
I went to the library a few years ago and found a 'woodworking projects' book. It had a picnic table in it which is octagonal and easily seats 10 people. The 4 benches (each handles two sides of the octagon) aren't attached, so you can carry them over the sit around the campfire if you want.

I copied the plans for the table at 10 cents per page (it amounted to about 50 cents, I think). Then I built it - I chose Cedar, not treated wood. It weighs less and is very good at handling weather. We've had the table at least 8 years, because I built it before I was disabled nearly 8 years ago.

I had no background in woodwork - the instructions were great.

Try your library.

beach wedding problem..picnic tables..long reception and elderly??

Lindsay W

I am having a beach wedding at a wood pavilion. There are wood seat everywhere...attached to the pavilion, there is nowhere else to sit. Should I make some cushions? Any ideas?
I can't have chairs....there's no room. I have to deal with these benches. I will check the rental companies, my only fear is the cushions need to attach or they may slide off....but I might get them to make customs if they can rerent. Some one else report the link given by the dude down there....guy is spamming, they need more than just my complaint. thx. go somewhere else you nerd
it's not the ugliness...I don't mind the natural wood color...much better than plastics

I'm worried about my elderly guests' bottoms getting sore....they need something comfortable to sit on for so long...one of them is 90!

Answer
Instead of cushions, get plastic table cloths from a party store and cut them in hald (or even thirds) and staple them to the benches. This will serve 2 purposes, make the benches look nicer and cover them so they are clean.

You could get some cotton batting at a craft store, cut it to fit the benches and then staple the table cloths to the underside pulling the table cloth tight to creat your own cushions, but this may be more trouble than it's worth.

Cushions may move and fall and be more of a pain and then the rental fee...forget it!

I would just cover them!

Good luck!

What rules/things to do at a nudist resort?

Anita

1. Can kids be nudists

2. Is there separate bathrooms

3. What activities are there to do

4. Can I breast feed my baby boy

5. What if my hubby gets an erection

6. My family are not fat will we be the odd ones out?

Answer
So, is this Anita in the US or Anita Mum in New Zealand? These two stories are getting so confusing. Anyway, to give the benefit of the doubt in the interest in educating people about nudism...

1. Yes, kids can be nudists. Anyone can be a naturist regardless of age, gender, or anything else. Naturism/nudism is a very all-inclusive lifestyle. Most naturist resorts/camps/etc. are family-oriented and welcome guests of all ages (anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the liability of the resort). Very few places prohibit visitors under 18, and that's only to give guests a place to go that's free of children so that parents who want to escape the kids for a while, or people who just don't like kids, don't have to deal with them. In such places, all other rules of conduct remain the same as any family-friendly resort.

2. I can't speak for all naturist venues but many do have separate bathrooms as well as coed bathrooms. One resort I visited had two bathroom areas; one had a men-only section and a mixed-gender section, and the other had a women-only section and a mixed-gender section.

3. The amenities and activities vary from place to place. It could include anything from swimming in the pool, pond, or lake; soaking in the hot tub; table games in the lounge; pool table; outdoor miniature golf; outdoor shuffleboard; water slide; hiking on trails through the woods; pretty much anything you'd find at any other resort or camp. Look at the website of the individual locations to see what they offer for amenities and activities, and also the rules of the particular place.

4. Yes, nursing moms are free to breastfeed and it's perfectly acceptable. Nobody is going to look down on a mother for breastfeeding a baby.

5. Naturists all agree that an erection is a perfectly natural function of a perfectly natural body part. However, there are two schools of thought on how to respond to one. Some say it should be hidden until it goes away such as covering it with a towel, going for a swim, etc. Others say it doesn't have to be hidden and can be simply ignored just as you'd ignore goose bumps on the skin. In any case an erection must never be flaunted, played with (by the erect man or by anyone else), maintained, have attention drawn to it, or be used in any way to make anybody uncomfortable. The reality is that erections almost never happen among nudists, but on the off chance it does happen just follow the rules of the resort.

6. Everybody is accepted and nobody is rejected just because of their body types. For being someone who claims to be a nudist in other questions/answers, you sure do seem to be asking this question based on a stereotype.

What am I going to suspect on Carnival INSPERATION? Im 13?

13 years old going on Insperation, what should I expect in Circle C? Fun level rate in stars and why (Ex. ****=4 stars)

We had a BLAST!!!!! her is some info i found:

There are clubs and schedles just for kids of your age group. you will find lots of kids to hang around in your age group

Identical in all but décor, Carnival Inspiration is the sixth in line of the eight Fantasy-class sister ships (Fantasy, Fascination, Ecstasy, Inspiration, Paradise, Sensation & Elation). These ships always seem to have something of interest going on, and thus are ideal for the up-and-at-'em style cruiser. Carrying 2,052 passengers, Fantasy is big enough to provide entertainment, ample deck space for those whose idea of being entertained is basking in a warm sun shine glow, and separate facilities for passengers of all ages.

Having been launched in 1996, in today's whirlwind pace of change in the cruise industry, Carnival Inspiration is not so full of neon, chrome and mirrors as her younger sister ships. But it's there if you know where to look. Like at the Grand Atrium with its bold gold neo-classic statue and neon-rimmed mirrors and ceiling panels.

There are a lot of hard surfaces on this ship - especially on the flooring where tiles abound instead of carpet. This adds to the non-stop ambient noise levels, especially in the Violin's Bar and the grand Atrium.

In addition, a further upgrade completed in 2007 includes a snazzy new pool area with teak decking, new umbrellas, a tile "beach" for the pool water to lap against and a new thatched roof for the hot tub. The kids will rave about "Carnival waterworks," the new water park featuring a 4-story tall and 300 foot long "Twister Water Slide." Another slide is three side-by-side tubes 82 feet long. This is all part of a waterpark with all kinds of sprays and other devices to keep the kiddies cool and fresh. There's also a new nine-hole miniature golf course.

As if that isn't enough for the kids, "Camp Carnival" received a makeover, and the ship has new interconnecting staterooms for families.

Total Choice Dining provides for four dinner seatings in the main dining rooms, alternative Bistro dining every evening, and an increased number of service staff. Passengers are assigned a table for dinner in one of the two main dining rooms -- The Mardi Gras Dining Room on Atlantic Deck, mid-ship, or the Carnivale Dining Room on Atlantic Deck, aft -- at one of four seatings; 5:45 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. There are very few tables for two in either of the two main dining rooms; expect to dine with four, six, or eight fellow voyagers. Both dining rooms are named after future Carnival ships that at the time were only a part of the founder's "imagination."

You typically have a choice of six starters, a couple of salads, and six or seven main courses (pan-fried fillet of red snapper, sweet and sour shrimp, rack of New Zealand lamb and Beef Wellington). The menu also includes Spa Carnival selections for those trying to reduce their intake of calories, sodium, cholesterol, fat, or meat.

Added in the 2007 renovation were a coffee bar in the atrium and New York-style deli in the Lido restaurants

Additionally, the poolside Lido eateries are converted into Seaview Bistros between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. each evening, offering buffet dinner with no reservations or advance notice required. The informal Brasserie Bar & Grill (T-shirts and shorts are OK) Restaurant on the Lido Deck offers both inside and poolside seating. All meals here are served buffet style, with open seating for all three meals.

Other alternative eating options include a 24-hour pizzeria, a complimentary sushi bar and 24 hour room service. Added in the 2007 renovation were a coffee bar in the atrium and New York-style deli in the Lido restaurants.

Carnival's celebrated Camp Carnival program offers a full schedule of supervised activities, from finger painting and singalongs for younger children to photography workshops, late-night movies, and pool parties for their older siblings. The ships' 2,400-square foot "Children's World" play areas are stocked with a computer lab, a climbing maze, an activity wall, and an assortment of toys, games and puzzles.

The 2007 upgrade added a nine-hole miniature golf course as well as a waterpark that is better than the larger Carnival ships. The kids will love these supervised diversions giving you plenty of time to relax by the pool.

I have a few questions about painting wood furniture for a beach house?

professor

We have bought a small beach house in Maine and after much interior and exterior work I am just beginning to decorate it. I do not want to go out and buy all new furniture because the house would then feel like a home and not a vacation spot. That being said, I have been collecting furniture from tag sales and flea markets. I have 3 nice beds, 1 is an old fire house wrought iron twin bed, another is a full size four poster bed with acorn finials and the 3rd is an old simple queen maple bed. The poster bed I will re-finish, the maple bed will be painted and the wrought iron needs painting as well. Also, I have 3 night stands, old and dated with leather tops and casters for rolling the pieces. I will remove the casters and want to paint the stands but I'm unsure what colors I could paint with black leather tops. Same goes for the dressers, I have 3 old dressers, one has really nice sea shell drawer handles, the other are just simple old hardware. I will replace the hardware with colored glass knobs on the two dressers and obviously leave the sea shells alone. I have a big rectangle wood kitchen table and 6 miss-matched wood chairs. Should I paint each chair a different color or co-ordinate them by painting them all the same color? What about the table, should I paint it? Maybe just the legs or top?
Okay, I need help with colors. I want to keep things very light and breezy. Not sure if I'll keep walls white (probably at least to start with) and accent with ocean colors. Imagine that this was your beach house and you were decorating, what would you do with the furniture?

Answer
Select a color pallet. Blues are the obvious and logical choice for a beach house. But the shade of blue will dictate what other colors you may want to pull into the house. Here are some suggestions:

Brights: Turquoise shades, periwinkle blues, coral (not peach, not pink, not orange, coral), tans and brighter yellows.

Classic: Navy blue, cream or white, splashes of red

Beachy: Light blues, tans, light yellows and some raspberry or pink tones.

If all of your chairs are different, you may want to make them cohesive by painting them all the same color and perhaps just leave the seats wood. I would leave the tabletop wood and paint the legs. Tabletops take a lot of abuse and a painted top needs maintenance whereas a wooden finished tabletop wears much better if finished with the correct products. I would paint the table legs and the chairs the same color and use a colorful rug and accessories to bring in a color.

Painted furniture is very beachy cottage and it gives old flea market finds new life and charm. I would paint the body of the leather top end tables off white and sand down the drawers with a light stain finish. Painting these night stands any other color seems like they will not fit in to your beachy theme. And, using a light neutral color will not fight with the black tops.

White washing furniture is a good idea, too. And, stain now comes in many colors that will add so much character to your flea market finds. Check out the dozens of stain colors on Minwax.com. These stains are great and can really transform a piece of furniture. I like colored stain because it does not ever chip or need touch ups like paint does. Stains allow you to add color to the body of furniture and leave the tops wood tone, which is a great combination.

Add color in the small spaces. Paint a bathroom with a coral or red or turquoise accent wall. That wall at the end of the hallway can be a bright color, too.

I would not paint everything white. That is too stark and why paint white now just to change it later? Use ceiling paint throughout the whole house that is a blue tint or maybe a yellow tint. Really, check out the shades of white with a tint of color. Use light breezy colors such as light creamy yellow, ecru, light blues. White is just too stark. If you must paint everything "white" go with the color of Hellman's Mayonnaise. It is much easier to decorate with that stark white. White adds no warmth.

I like whitewashed maple for the bed. Spray the wrought iron bed would look great in a creamy white, too. Sometimes you need to just pick the bedding first. That allows you to decide on everything else with confidence.

I have a client who lives on the Connecticut shoreline. She painted her entire interior in her house a light shade of yellow. Some rooms have green accents, some blue, one lavender, one navy, yet another raspberry. You really do not realize her entire house is yellow because each room takes on a different feel due to the colors within that individual room. Yet, the entire house is cohesive and has that beachy feel throughout.

What items would look cool in a retro style kitchen?

mousey

Thanks :)

Answer
What kind of retro are you looking for? Retro 50's? 60's? 70's?

60's and 70's stuff can still be found at garage sales, swap meets/flea markets, Ebay.

The cool stuff is the 50's retro stuff. Elmira Stove Works is manufacturing brand NEW retro items. All the looks of the 50's with modern technology. Their Northstar line offers refrigerators, stoves, ovens, hoods, dishwasher panel covers, and microwaves that look like something out of the Jetsons.

Hamilton Beach & KitchenAid have many chrome and colored small appliances that would fit into a 50's retro theme very well.

If you are going for the 50's theme, black and white linoleum tiles are inexpensive, easy to clean, and environmentally friendly.

You could also go with a retro chrome & formica dining table with the vinyl chairs. Very 50's.

From Los Angeles and looking to move to either Grapevine Tx or Greenvile SC, any suggestions?

Elsa

We are a mixed race couple with two young children looking for a new place to raise them. Looking for great schools, low housing cost, and lots of trees/nature. Activities for kids, and friendly people.

Answer
Hi Elsa, I'm a bit biased since I'm from near Greenville. Greenville is a really great place to live. It's somewhat larger than Grapevine and is kind of a stand-alone city. Greenville along with Spartanburg make up the metropolitan area whereas Grapevine is really a suburb of Dallas. Greenville has a great downtown with lots of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. There is minor league baseball with a downtown stadium and hockey at the downtown Bi-Lo Center. Great stuff to take kids to. Furman University is nearby. The Reedy River park runs through downtown with it's picturesque falls. I think you would really like it. Housing prices in both are probably comparable, at least much cheaper than LA. Greenville is a half hour drive from the Blue Ridge Escarpment, AKA The Blue Wall, where the mountains rise abruptly. There are many state parks along the escarpment with camping, swimming, hiking and stuff to do with kids on weekends like Table Rock, Devil's Fork, Jones Gap, Keowee-Toxaway and more. There is so much to do outdoors in the Greenville area. Yeah, there's lots of trees and nature. Keep in mind that most winter days reach 55 degrees to the low 60s. So that's great for hiking with the kids, tennis and golf. So there's lots to do year round. The place is friendly. I'm an ex-yankee from Washington DC and on a whole I don't see the negative attitudes against other races and outsiders that was prevalent in years gone by. I really don't think you will find that to be a problem.

What to do for table numbers?

Naughty

Does the venue usually provide table numbers, or do I have to make them myself? Am I supposed to come up with some sort of holders for them, or buy picture frames to put them in? Any ideas?
Thank you!

Answer
Call your venue and ask the events/wedding coordinator.

Our venue provided table number holders, but I made our own table numbers using a Brides kit that matched our invitations and name cards.

You could use picture frames, picture holders (the wire type stands), or google your wedding's theme (if you have one) and see if you can find something to match. IE, our theme was beach and I found starfish and beach chairs....but ultimately decided on just the simple ones to save money.

I definitely recommend trying to find them on eBay over buying them in the store! Good luck!!

graduation party ideas?

alexx

now I'm having a graduation party for my grade school graduation and i need some ideas. any fun games or party decor ideas would really help... anything with the number 2008?

Answer
There are lots of great themes, and I do like the Luau one above.

If you like a theme you could choose things like Circus, Pirates, Under The Sea, Mardi Gras, Wild West, Hollywood, Casino. Oriental, 50s, Superheros, Musical Mexican, Golf, all about the graduate.

For each you can insist on costumes, although it is easier to ask people to dress up in things they may have such as jeans and t-shirts for wild west.

Decorations can be balloons (tied in bunches), streamers, confetti, a table centrepiece, theme pictures, banners with 2008, bunting and pictures of the graduate.

Can display lots of graduate pictures at all ages, plus show videos.

Decorate guests with 2008 funtoos, 2008 glasses, and 2008 beads.

Food and drink can be buffet, cold meats, salad, pizza, burgers, fries, water, coke, fuit juice. Also a cake to help the celebrations.

Lots of favors can be fun with 2008 glasses, blow outs, candy, pens and pencils.

Play the music you want bearing in mind the guests so that they all hear something they might like.

Arrange lots of help with preperation, decorations, clean up, food, drink, games, photographs and favors. Each person can take over one area.

Some games you might like to try:

Limbo
Play some fun music while your friends stand in line waiting to bend backwards low enough to fit under the limbo stick (broom handle, yardstick, etc.). In order to win, the limbo master must not touch the stick or fall on the floor while limboing under the stick (which is usually held by 2 people).

Bobbing For Apples
Set up a large pail filled with water and enough appls to cover the surface. Lay out plenty of towels. The guests using only their teeth must try and get an apple out of the pail. Usually hilarious and very messy!.

Talent Spots
As a break from the normal graduation party games a talent spot lets everyone get a drink and watch the entertainment. Set aside a stage with lighting if possible with music pre arranged to suit the act. You can ask the guests to prepare something in the party invitations and give them a theme if you wish. For example you could allow them to do anything, be a ringmaster or clown for a circus party, sing mambo no. 5 at a Mardi Gras party, sing backwards, act out a script for a hollywood theme or tell jokes

Pass The Orange
This fun-filled game is inexpensive and simple. The only supplies it requires are 2 oranges and people with both a neck and a chin. Divide the group into 2 teams. When the person (not actually playing the game) says "Go!" the people must pass the orange from neck to neck using only chins and necks. The team that can get the orange to the last neck in line the quickest without dropping the orange wins.

Treasure Hunt
In advance hide lots of items in the garden (or indoors). Tie in the objects with the party theme. Give everyone a sheet with the hidden items listed (or drawn for youngsters.) Time the teams or individuals as they find the items. For example for a pirate theme party you could hide fake coins. Have prizes for the winners.

There are lots of great venues such as school hall, home, park and beach.

Write out some rough timings for start games, eat, quiet time, games, dancing and when to give out favors. Helpers wil find that good.

I hope you have a great party, good luck!
