I am looking for a good place to go camping in the east coast, around north Carolina, Georgia.... Beautiful places, nature, waterfalls, etc.... Any suggestions?

Answer
I can't wait to go camping at *Edisto Beach State Park*. SC has some great state parks; we love them. And Edisto Island is my absolute favorite beach. It's quiet, uncrowded and clean, lots of shells and sand. Not tourist-y at all. The state park has beachfront improved camp sites (though they book up VERY fast) and another site across the main road under beautiful oaks with tent sites too. They have a great bike/hike trail (about 4 miles long I believe) that winds through the tree canopy and over the marsh.

We're also putting *Devils Fork State Park* on our list. http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/photo-gallery/default.aspx?ParkId=1355 The lake beach with the mountains in the background is beautiful and there are couple falls nearby. *Table Rock* is another popular state park. And we heard from a friend that *Huntington Island* is another great state beach park. This the state's most visited park and it has an historic lighthouse you can climb. They even have direct sewer hookup if you're going RVing. I've not been but she says it's much closer to "civilization" than Edisto, which is pretty secluded.

I love the Highlands area of NC, esp in summer. The temps are very cool, air is light, very pretty area. You might find some campgrounds around there, maybe near Franklin (Dillard, GA is close too). We camped a couple falls back in Brevard, NC, which has lots of area waterfalls. And the NC area around Boone is very pleasant, imo, though I'm not familiar with any specific campgrounds there. We try to stick with state, national and Corp parks because they seem to respect nature the most. So many private camps are becoming more asphalt and less shade - not my idea of camping.

What do I pack for my camping trip?

sara

I'm going camping in the Sierra Nevada's a couple weeks from now. We will be doing a LOT of hiking. We're not using tents, so I won't need that. Basically I just need a general list of the necessities

Prash

Answer
the essence of chiropractic is correcting the cause of nerve interference. this originates in the upper neck. a side-posture adjusting table with a drop head piece is needed for this. other tables, such as a plain bench with a face slot may be used for exam and resting, and a table with full spine drop sections for alleviating transient fixations/misalignments, though this is not necessary.

I'm looking for an eagle project, and i want it to be away from the usual. I don't want it to be planting a flower garden, painting a wall, building a fence, etc. Does anybody have any ideas that are unique? Please share your experiences of eagle projects you've participated in or have seen or observed. Thank you.

What do I need to know before my Disney World vacation?

scrabblenu

I need a Disney expert to give me some advice. Our family is going on vacation to Disney and I'm wondering what we need to know before we get there. We're going with 3 kids, 6,5, and 9 months, and also my parents, ages 65 and 53. None of us have ever been before. We'll be there for 7 full days (plus 1 day each for arrival and departure). We have 6 days allotted to visit 4 Disney parks, and one day for Sea World. We did not get the park hopper option, so I was thinking the trip would go something like this: 2 days MK, 2 days MGM, 1 day Animal Kingdom, 1 day Epcot, 1 day Sea World.

My specific questions are:
1. Will my children enjoy Epcot enough at this age to spend an entire day there?
2. Is 2 days enough to see the Magic Kingdom?
3. What kind of crowds will we find near the end of September?
4. How much money should we expect to spend on food, etc...each day?
5. Is there any other advice you have for a family of first-timers?
Everything is already booked, we are going in just over two weeks. We are staying in a condo, off-site.

Answer
I am assuming that you are renting a car, but if you are not use Mears Transportation services. You call them 24 hours before you need the service and they will provide roundtrip service. 407-423-5566. They are one of the only legit shuttle companies in Orlando. Even Disney uses them for their shuttles.

If you get the dining plan you will save tons of money on food because the dining plan basically pays fro lunch & dinner. If you are not getting the dining plan, do a few things: 1) bring snacks into the park, especially with the little ones, this will prevent them from getting hungry and from whining about all the yummy snacks around them; 2) Schedule at least 1 (during the whole trip) if not more character meals, they will be worth the price. Check www.allears.net to see information about them all; 3) Try and schedule 1-2 non-character meals. 4) Since you have a condo, try making some dinners or lunches to bring with you.

If you get the plan here are some tips: To utilize your plan properly and get the most out of it: Use the counter service meal for lunch, the table for dinner (try and go with the more expensive restaurants) and if you can use the snacks to buy cereal and milk in the morning or a snack during the day.

Depending on if you eat sit-down meals or counter meals will depend on how much you spend. www.allears.net has menus and prices for all restaurants. This will help you plan about how much to bring based on where you eat. Donât forget to book your sit-down and character meals before you go. 407-WDW-DINE is the phone number to call to make reservations.

In your luggage, pack bottles of water and bring 1 bottle per person to the park. Water in Disney costs a lot, so if you bring a bottle per person you can fill it up at water fountains. Plus you can use the empty suitcase at the end of the trip to bring home souvenirs. If you canât lose all that luggage space, by a case or two of water when you get down there.

With the ages of the people you re going with donât be afraid to sit down and take a break. There are benches and loads of other cooling stations. Remember, the temperature in September is usually around 95 degrees. Also it tends to shower many days. Go to Target and go to the camping section. They have emergency ponchos that are $0.89 each. Buy a bunch and you can use and reuse or throw out.

Start saving your change. Use this as the souvenir fund or another fund that you will need money for. You will be surprised how fast your change adds up. We have been saving since March and we have $80 and we almost never use cash!

One great way to keep the kids from whining is to set a limit. Tell them they can get a certain amount of souvenirs for the trip, or that they have a certain amount of money. Each time they buy something, give them a little homemade receipt that tells them how much money/items they have left. Not only will this cut down on the âmommy, I wantâsâ but it will teach them (even though they are young) about managing things. If you keep track of how much they spend and just tell them how much they have it will be easier on them.

Epcot can be fun for kids if you make it! Get an Epcot Kidco Funstop. It is a passport and they get stamps from each country! Epcot is a great place to teach them about things such as space, under the sea, respecting the environment and respecting and embracing other cultures. Check out these two articles as well.

http://www.allears.net/tp/ep/issue330.htm

http://www.allears.net/tp/ep/issue333.htm

With all that time allotted, you should be able to get stuff done. Use allears.net and Disney.com to make a generalized itinerary. You can create custom maps for you and your family. Sit down with your kids and go over the rides that they have at each park (maybe break this up into 1 park/night). Have them pick out there 5 favorite rides. Make these your MUST doâs. Meaning you have to get those rides done and if you have time after the Must-do rides, then go on others. This way you know what your kids really want to ride so they wonât be disappointed when the time comes. It will also get them excited.

I have lots of tips and tricks on ways to get them excited and little things to do. So e-mail me if you have any questions!

Also, the end of September isn't too crazy as most people still do not want to take the kids out of school. Disney has 5 different seasons for 2007. They are Value Season (when there are the least crowds), regular season, summer season, peak season, and holiday season. based on these seasons you can tell when the crowds are heaviest.

Value season: Jan 1-Feb14, Aug 5-Oct 3, Nov 25-Dec 19
Regular season: April 15-May 23, Oct 4-Nov 24
Summer Season: May 24-Aug 4
Peak Season: Feb 15-April 14
Holiday Season: Dec 20-Dec 31

You are goign durng value season (as are we) so the crowds will be lighter than usual.

what color tile floors and interior paint color with a dark brown leather sofa?

Diva 2011

Iam buying a new home and not sure what color to paint the interior wall. Also purchased a dark leather sofa and pick out this glass top pearl white or sea shell end table and coxtail table. Last but not least I want to put in tile floors but I'm not sure what color would be a good match.. Please help

Answer
It seems that your color scheme is already nuteral. Do the floor nuteral because you can always change wall paint or couches. It is not as easy to change tile. Put all your color on the wall. Dont be affraid of color. It depends on what your wanting the room to feel like. Your darker colors are going to be cozy and comfy, Your greens and blues are going to feel serine like a spa or beach house. yellow feels airy and breezy like a beautiful day outside. The choice is yours.

What are my rights and is there anyway I can leave my apartment before the end of the lease?

Cleto

I am a second year university student and I live in a student apartment complex in which each tenant is responsible for their own individual lease. The lease is by the bed, not the unit. Our rent includes cable & internet and we do share the utilities (all under my name). Living in this area was a horrible mistake. I am the only one in the apartment of 5 that works (two jobs) and is actually taking school seriously with 18 units as a bio major.

Everyone one else in the house abuses their parents' money and in no way hold any responsibility for their finances or social behavior. Under aged drinking and illegal smoking is common everywhere in this beach town of students. Recently, a new room mate moved into my crammed room. When I first signed up to live in that complex, we were promised a fully furnished apartment with a bed, desk and everything else for each student. The room I was placed in is only big enough for two beds and one desk, and now we're forced to share one desk (which he completely takes up with his new federally paid for TV, PS3, etc.) I keep my textbooks and important belongings (including SSI card) stashed inside the desk but I cannot use it for studying.

I'm usually gone on the weekends to work in Orange County but on Friday night, right before I was going to leave, I returned to the apartment to grab something I had forgotten to pack and found our bedroom a complete mess! My room mate and his friends decided to drink and wanted a beer pong table so they took all of my belongs out of the desk, threw them on my bed and removed the desk to use for beer pong. They spilled soda, alcohol and orange juice all over our bedroom floor and left everything a mess. I quickly emailed the manager and demanded that he find me another room to move into.

Keep in mind that I had previously contacted the manager to express my issue with our contrasting lifestyles and asked him to find another room for me to stay in. However, he has not replied at all to either of those messages and has not made any attempt to contact me or resolve the issue I have with the person he just shoved into my room without even telling me before hand.

I want to move out, especially since when I signed up for a room there, I filled out a form describing the kind of person I was and describing the type of people I want to be placed with. I signed up for a non-smoking house with quiet and studious housemates. These people are in no way the ones I had in mind. I haven't paid this month's rent yet, in hopes that THIS will get a response from the manager, but he has yet to contact me about that either, and rent was due on the 1st. What I'm asking for is any advice you might have on what I can do to get out of there quickly. Would the manager evict me for not paying the rent? What are the consequences of that? Do I have justification for withholding rent? Is there even anything I can do? I figured that when he confronts me about the rent, I would tell him that I'm just waiting for him to tell me the number of the new room had once said he would find for me. I just want to live in an environment where I can study and sleep at peace, without worrying about my housemates breaking a door, having people over, or dealing with their loud parties. I think that the fact that we all have an individual lease complicates things. I do not appreciate his unprofessional approach to the living situation he created by sticking two obviously different people into the same room.

All advice is appreciated!
I don't have a copy of the contract, but I think that all of the furniture was on there. On their website, they advertise a fully furnished room complete with bed and desk for each student. Before the incident with the new room mate happened, I was emailing the manager about installing bunk beds in the room to make way for a new desk, which he said that he would do by last Friday (the day I described above), and he never did. Since then he has not replied to my emails and I figure it's because he doesn't take any of the tenants seriously as their all naive college kids. I think I'm going to have find time to confront him physically and maybe try to obtain a copy of the contract and look to see exactly what he promised to provide, especially if it says that he was supposed to match my personality and life style to others.

Answer
Does your contract actually state how many people would be living in the room or the type of furniture you'd each be getting? You'll need to focus on those things in order to prove his breach of contract with you.

If they aren't responding to emails, phone calls, or such then send a certified letter with your demands. Withholding rent will give them grounds to evict you which will make it very hard for you to find another place. If you want to play hardball you can inform him, in a certified letter, of the illegal activities happening there. Ask him if he'd like to handle them or if the police should be involved.

--edit--

Be VERY careful about blindly taking advice of withholding rent. Each state has very strict and very different laws on when you can legally do this. I would especially not trust someone who appears to have run into the next room to ask her daddy.

I wanted to find a ping pong table for camping but one that's not too pricey anyone know of a place where I can find one for a reasonable price? It will probably only be used when going camping which isn't very much in my family so that's why I don't want to be shelling out a whole bunch of money for something that won't be used very much.

Try the junk stores, and Yahoo recycle sites in your area.

What digital picture frame would you buy and why?

tkept

I want to buy a digital picture frame and there are many to choose from. I want a 7 or 8 inch screen to put on a table. I am not interested in music in it. Considering price, picture clarity and user friendly, what are your suggestions, makes and models?

Answer
I like the classic look of this frame.

But, I would probably buy this one because it has a motion sensor which means I wouldn't have to turn it on or off all of the time.

There are a whole lot of other frames here. I highly recommend looking at the best rated ones and reading the reviews to see what other people have said about them.

How would you go about planning a memorial service on a beach in Southern CA?

beach table set up on resort_nhatrang_honeymoon2
beach table set up image

ela

My god mother is gravely ill and wants me to have a memorial on the beach with her urn, no scattering just a memorial. It would be a large amount of people definitely over 200. Has anyone ever done this? Any info would help thank you!

Answer
It is certainly a lovely idea and will provide you with the comfort of honoring her wishes as well as the chance to celebrate her life in a beautiful setting. I am sure that what you want is possible but certainly not without some expense.

Not knowing whether you plan to hold the service at a public or private beach, I am going to assume that you ask because you want to use a public beach. You will probably be contacting Parks and Recreation first. In some localities, Public Safety or the Police Department issues the assembly permits. You're on your own there because there are too many beaches in SoCal to check for you.

Not knowing where in southern California you are located nor the beach you have selected, I can only talk in general terms. Scroll down Southern California Beach list page, linked belowm for a list of beach cities. The internal links won't help much but you can then select the location in order to contact City Hall or the county government or the State of California depending.
http://www.beachcalifornia.com/sitelist.html

For a group of 200 people, you might need a permit to reserve facilities. You will most certainly have to make arrangements for seating, unless people should just dress for the beach and bring towels to sit on. Do you want sound amplification? Check to make sure this can be done, if there are power sources and approved companies who provide sound amplification. What about parking? Unless you have a centralized meeting place where people will board buses, the site must have both parking and bathroom facilities.

Do you plan to serve food afterwards? If so, tables, seating, refrigeration, cooking must probably be brought in...is it permitted? .Flowers or food for the gulls?
http://www.peoplesmemorial.org/planning_service.cfm

I would suggest selecting at least 3 beaches so that if your plans aren't allowed at one, you immediately have a backup. Check them personally complete with checklist of what you need to be sure that the selections will work for your plans.

Once you have chosen a date or a selection of dates, contact the proper authority for permissions, permits and restrictions, and specific site instructions. Set a date well enough in advance that people can be notified.

Plan for clean up as well unless this is included in the permit fee. There are also private facilities which have beachfront property and will accomodate any occasion. It might mean less work for you although the expenditure will be higher.

The truth is, renting space for a memorial ceremony is no different than a family reunion at a beach. Same logistics, slightly different program of events.

What is the significance of the horse logo found on the beach boys 50th anniversary shirt?

Just went to see the beach boys at Chicago theater last night and am trying to find out what the horse means on the tour logo

Answer
You can do it! Use the house! Invite all of their friends and tell them each to bring one food dish. When the day comes, make posters or signs using household objects, and set up the food people bring on a table. Put on some music and you're good to go!

I am redoing my bedroom. The beach and japanese things are my 2 favorite things in the world. How can i blend the 2 themes to where the room will look great? Im suck. Thanks for any suggestions Also, i'm redoing the flooring in the room. Any suggestions?

Answer
I'd go with something Polynesian which incorporates a tropical theme and has an Asian flair. Be careful about overdoing things so it doesn't end up looking kitschy. You know, tiki lights, totems, grass skirting, coconuts, etc. Unless that's your style.

When I think of Polynesian, I think about bamboo flooring, or parquetry--a mid-grade color, not too light, not too dark. You could do an accent wall in fabric or textured paneling (like novawall paneling-which helps lessen noise and looks sophisticated--I'm thinking a dark, wet sand color), or install a "living wall" panel of plants (for a nice verdant green), with a clerestory strip of low level lighting--or small pot lights to create mood. Without knowing the dimensions of your room, or your tastes, I'm doing a lot of guessing, so bear with me.

I'd put in some nice amber lighting to bounce the color around--wall sconces, task lighting, up-lights in the corners and a central light fixture hanging from the ceiling (could incorporate a ceiling fan here...). Mix neutral colors with stark white elements, vases for example and shiny elements of silver or brass. You might decide to have a few art pieces. I can picture a large fish bowl (modern style), filled with cowry shells as part of a water feature. Beach colors might include tequila orange, red pomegranate, deep turquoise or aqua, sunset yellows, midnight blues, that sort of thing. A trick I used in my office was to take different color bamboo poles (six ft. tall) from light tan, to mahogany red, to dark brown and finally black and put them into an old brass coal scuttle that's about two feet tall. I also varied their sizes, from large poles to reeds and made a sort of "fan tree" out of them.

You could also try a Bombay approach. Here the wood tones would be deeper. The accent wall might incorporate wide panel shutters back-lit by mood lighting, or a wide panel shutter room divider. Same kind of lighting elements. Thomasville has a Hemingway Collection which has a lot of these elements. In my mind I see old steamer trunks with brass fixtures and knobs, worn leather desk blotters, campaign table, faux ivory elements (like elephants, etc.), large fans, a panama style hat hanging from a clothes tree. Colors might include royal blues, teal greens, mustard yellows, ebony etc. Fabrics might include muslin, cotton, white satin.

Floor would be darker wood. Bedding could be stark white linens, maybe incorporate mosquito netting in one corner that drapes to the floor, back-lit for effect, and tied with a decorative tie back and tassel. Side table has a glass carafe on a silver tray. I always think mixing muted tones with shiny elements looks more sophisticated and interesting to the eye.

Again, include a water element or feature.

Another great source for ideas is Restoration Hardware.

How would you throw the best beach party?

ajumbo05

I am planning on throwing a beach party in Wildwood Nj for spring break. What would you do to make it the best party. If you did have a beach party what did you do, and how did it go? We also want to get on a few rides at the Pier, so im trying to squeeze that in there as well. Any idea will work as long as its reasonable.

Answer
I did a beach party after I graduated. Here are some of the things I did:

1.) I didn't have a lot of cash, so for drinks, I made up tons of pitchers of island/beach-themed drinks and just served them that way. Things like margaritas, pina coladas, bay breezes, daiquiris, etc. We also had some soda, water, lemonade, iced tea, and some beer.

2.) For food, we had lots of fresh fruit (pineapple, melon, strawberries), and then we did some homemade potato chips with old bay seasoning, some dips, potato salad, fresh veggie tray, and then burgers and hot dogs. A friend brought some crab dip later, so you can always go with the seafood theme if you want.

3.) For decorations, I got a lot of bulk seashells and starfish and things from QualityShells.com and spread them around the tables with citronella candles (it was outside). We also put out a few tiki torches and that was really it. The table cloths and plates and stuff we got real cheap from a party supply store.

I hope this helps!

I remember the fat crayons in their wooden boxes, yellow tables, the ugly storytime mat, the first assignments (draw a star, fold a fan), a raw Easter egg that cracked in my basket, plastic blue cups and plates, glazed donuts, and my blue vinyl schoolbag with the puppet family motif.

one day my mom got me these new pants that werent snap, you had to put them through that little slit, and then i couldnt get it open and i really had to pee so my best friend tried helping me in the bathroom but i couldnt get them off in time so i peed in my pants and i didnt get a sticker at the end of the day

my friends and i were building a sand castle and we needed water so my friend went to the drinking fountain and filled her mouth with water and spit on the sand, and the teacher found out and made her go inside early for nap time during recess

this girl cut one of her braids and started crying

comparing the size of our poops with eachother in the bathroom

throwing sand in this girls face because she called me little

always sitting next to my teacher on the school bus when we went on field trips

me and this other girl in my class having the same lunch box (our parents gave our lunch boxes to the teachers at the beginning of school) and when the teachers re-handed out our lunchboxes at lunch time she got my lunch box filled with good food and i got hers with crappy food in it

Coating for a wooden work bench?

Wolfkraft

Hello good people of Yahoo answers,
I need to come up with a coating for a wooden work table. Epoxy coating would be ideal but it's out of question due to complexity of application and amount it will end up costing me (the table is large). Is there any coating that can be also smooth and glossy, yet easier to apply than epoxy? Thank you in advance.
I forgot to add that I need a transparent coating, not paint.

Answer
Simple! Best is to coat with water base clear polyurethane 4 hardwood floors. You have ease of application, a clear coat, its smooth, its tough. You will need 2 or 3 thin coats, recoat time is like 1 hr, use small lambswool applicator and fine brush. If you are going on to raw wood you may have to seal first, if going over previous finish you may have to lightly sand. Stir do not shake poly or you may get bubbles. Buy at the same place that hardwood floor refinishers buy at or that rents equipment for floor refinishing, also for lambswool applicator and brush, they are normally in the yellow pages, if you cannot find in book call a hardwood floor finisher and ask 4 local supplier. 30 years contractor. Q. I am planning a big adventure in scotland for at least 2 months, wild camping, surviving of the land.

My main worry are ticks, how do i prevent from getting attacked, will they attack me in my tent, while walking on flat grass? just need abit of info on this subject please thanks guys.

Answer
Are you referring to the Great Scottish Midge? Midgeus Bitteus Extremis var Scotii?
First, stay away from water...lochs,rivers and streams, swampy marshy claddaghs, etc.
Second, go outside only when there is a high wind. Midges can't fly in that so they hide away all cozy where they can breathe.
Second and a half, only go out in bright light, preferably Glorious Scottish Sunshine cos the blighters really like evenings and nights better than bright stuff because all blood-sucking vampires do that anyway....it's only natural.
Third, buy a midge net or three to cover the places like faces that normal clothing doesn't cover
Fourth, buy Deet or similar sprays and spray everything but it's harmful on skin so take care.
Also Fourth, buy a big pack of mosquito coils, commonly called Elephant coils which you wouldn't know quite likely cos they're mostly commonly called that in Malaysia and Singapore cos the major brand of them there is 'Elephant Brand' and fishing by a river without them in the evening is a soddin' nightmare....
When you sit down for a rest or a go at the Glorious Scottish Rainbow Trout and Salmon beside a beautiful Scottish loch or river in the evening, light a couple of coils and they'll smoulder away for six hours or so unless you got cheapies which last an hour if you're lucky, and the fumes will deter midgy stuff and most other small flying things.
If you want to put one out....extinguish it, not put it out by the back door out of the way cos you won't have one there unless you've got a really posh tent....just break the smouldering end off.
Fifth, buy a sleeping bag with legs and arms and keep it on continuously with a well fitted crash helmet with a full visor, a thick scarf wrapped round your neck to seal the gap, and thick leather gloves on your hands, trousers tucked into the outer pair of socks and the join covered with well fitted gaiters, and go in winter so you stay cool enough.
Just don't drink anything. It's a bit inconvenient that way.....and later on.

If you mean ticks as in grass type ticks that live on grass, well that's one reason for the traditional arrangement of socks and boots used by walkers on the hills and far away.
Cover all exposed skin when walking in long grass and get the wrists and neck sealed well.
Wear short thick woolen socks over long 60% cotton 35% wool 5% Elastane or similar walking socks.
Roll the short woolen socks over the top of your boots to seal the gap.
Tuck the trousers neatly into the long socks, one bit of trouser each side so there are two pleats evenly spaced, one on each side, not one one side and none the other side which looks totally stupid.
Put on a pair of lightweight or heavyweight hopefully breathable waterproof gaitors for added protection.
All sealed up and tick-proofed. Jumping spider proofed. Snake bite proofed for desert and jungle walkies.
Wind proofed and even wet water splash proofed for jumping over streams and tramping through deep puddles but they won't save you from sinking up to your neck into black holes on Rannoch so take care.
Good at what they do though.
Proper professional job. Turn up to a village rambling club and watch the horrified faces.
Oh nooooo....a real one...what on Earth will he think of us.....oohh,grief.
It's happened....quite a few times...hahahaha

If you meet a wild haggis in full battle regalia it's fair game.....use anything at hand.
You'll need it.
All the others cannot be shot on a Sunday and must be treated as honorary guests at the dining table.
Have a great time.

What are some good fundraisers for raising money for camp?

Lynne Tayl

Our girl's youth group is raising money so that we can all go to girl's camp, or at least pay less than we usually have to.
What are some really cool creative ideas to raise as much money as possible?
We can't have an auction be our main source of money because our Bishop doesn't want all of the church members to have to basically pay for the camp every year, especially if they don't have a daughter even going to camp.
So, anything to appeal to the public?
We've tried garage sale,
But not everybody participated, and yeah.
So; Ideas?

Answer
Hi Lynne,

First off, here are a few sites you might want to check out for fundraising.

http://www.fundraising.com/
http://www.fundraisingweb.org/
http://www.youthpastor.com/Resource/index.cfm/Youth_Ministry_Fundraising.htm
http://www.churchbizonline.com/youth_fundraising.htm

Suggestions I would make are:

1. A Bake Sale - After (or before) church sell baked goods to the congregation. You can also sell some good coffee. If you don't want to bake see if the local donut shop will give you a deal on donuts to sell.

2. Chores - Offer to do chores for members of the church. Car washing, yard work, etc. could bring in some good money.

3. Dinner and a Show - Put together a show with all the girls doing 8-10 skits (kind of like Saturday Night Live) while parents and friends eat a dinner you all made. Spaghetti is easy to make a lot of.

4. Restaurants - Some restaurants like Round Table Pizza and Carl's Jr. have a fundraising program where you invite everyone you know to eat dinner there one night (basically having a big party) and your group gets a portion of the money.

5. Parent's Night Out - At your church or someone's home provide an evening where parents of the church can drop off their kids. While you and the other girls babysit the kids the parents can have a nice evening out.

6. Door to Door Car Wash - Find a safe neighborhood and go door to door asking residents if they would like a car wash. Make sure you have a hose, soap, rags, etc. Either have a parent drive the stuff around in their car or keep it all in a cart that you can pul from house to house.

7. If all else fails kidnap the Bishop and hold him for ransom. As long as it's all in good fun.

Good luck!

Ideas for refinishing ourdoor table top?

Amanda

I have a outdoor table that was mosiac top, but over the years the grout has cracked and I've lost a lot of pieces. It's a small round metal table. Is there a cheap and easy way to refinish the top of this table (doesn't have to be mosiac)? It only cost $20, so I'm not sure if it's worth fixing or just buy a new one.

Answer
Go ahead and replace the mosaic tiles. Go to your local re-store and get some tiles in the colors you want. Either refill the gaps or start over. I'd start over because it is so much fun to create a design of your own. Once the pieces are adhered, grout the entire table again. Seal the top now and annually if you continue to leave it outside.

Have fun with table.

I am looking for somewhere which is in between Disney and the beach. How far is the beach from Port Saint Lucie? Are there bad neighborhoods there? Please advise.

Answer
It's a good and bad place to live. Your right near the water and hurricanes are abundant in that region when the season starts up. I live here in the state and I can tell you that even though homes are at their lowest in price, it's not the best of places. my wife and I are trying to move ourselves. We are from the cold country but, I'd rather be up north than go through another one myself. You would be better off living in Orlando,Florida Right near Disney and further inland from major storms. Your still only a couple of hours away from the beach but much safer. I'm not trying to scare you but to put real facts on the table for you. I don't want anyone coming here and being mislead just so some Realtor can make a sale and commission on an unsuspecting person. The site said they wanted real facts. That's all I'm trying to do. Make your own mind on it. This is just food for thought.

I need a cute, cozy place on the beach in western Florida to spend the weekend. Any suggestions?

Maria

My boyfriend and I are looking to spend a weekend at a nice and cozy place around Sanibel, Florida. We are looking for a place that in right on the beach that runs at around $125 per night. We need it to have a kitchenette so we don't have go out for every meal. Does anyone know of a good place for our Romantic get away? We were hoping to spend time outdoors riding bicycles, and just walking everywhere. We want to go in the middle of November.

Answer
Smathers Beach is the longest, and one of the best-known beaches in Key West, it is located just west of the airport. Smathers Beach is named for George A. Smathers a former senator who served Florida for eighteen years in Congress. Everything you need to have a great day of family fun in the sun is right at hand; it has plenty of parking, restrooms, concession stands, chair rentals and picnic tables, vending trucks parked along the perimeter offer snacks and beverages.

I want to do something fun that I haven't done before in San Francisco for my 30th. People have mentioned going to see Beach Blanket Babylon, Asia SF...I just want to have a good time with my close friends. Oh and where should we stay? I live nearby in the Napa Valley...

Answer
A trip to Napa, St. Helena, Calistoga, San Francisco
Sightseeing trip to San Fransisco

Day One

Took 92 west over to Half Moon Bay then down Route 1 south. Route 92 was a very twisty, narrow way that we encountered a lot of traffic on. There were lots and lots of pumpkins though. Half Moon Bay being the heart of pumpkin growing country.

Route 1 was an amazingly beautiful scenic drive. Lots of places to stop for pictures. Many, many sandy beaches with little or no people on them. We stopped at the Pescadero State Park. It was a smaller beach but lots of cool drift wood all along the beach. It has a small restroom facility and free parking.

From there we continued down route 1 and eventually stopped at the Pigeon Point lighthouse. Again amazing views. You can't get into the lighthouse and the parking was a little harder but there was no cost to walk around the grounds.

My sis had her heart set on reaching Santa Cruz, so we continued on route 1 until we got to Santa Cruz. Parking was hard due to a Car Show and a Sea Glass show that were in town for the weekend. We drove around for awhile looking for a spot. We ended up at a meter near the boardwalk. It was much more of a tourist trap then I like. It had an amusement park and arcade on the boardwalk. A few surf shops, which is what my sis was looking for, where you could rent boards for the day. The wharf was nice and the area is a marine life preserve so we saw sea lions swimming right off the pier. The wharf had several areas cut out where you could see the sea lions resting on the scaffolding built under the pier. All in all I didn't find the town to be overwhelmed with people so you were able to see any thing you wanted too.

Day Two

We headed up to Napa valley to drink in the scenery and the wine. Well, Chris drank the wine. We started out at Artesa Winery. It was an amazingly beautiful place. The grounds were breathtaking and the visitor's center was incredible. Not having a taste for wine I'll have to take Chris' word that the wine was good. She got a taste of 5 "classics" for $10.00. There was art and the winery history on the walls in the visitor's center as well as a patio with a view of San Fran on a clear day. So Jim and I enjoyed that while Chris sipped wine. While we were there someone suggested the St. Clement vineyard and that's where we headed next.

St Clement's mister center is a cute house nestled on the top of the hill. Lots of outdoor tables to enjoy the day and the drink. Again here you got a taste of 5 wines for $10.00. While we were waiting for Chris, Jim and I ended up talking to a gentleman that ran a tour of wine country. He was in the process of setting out lunch for his tour. It's $75.00 per person. They travel around on a luxury bus and he decides each day where he is going to take his group. Get this, his wife made the potato salad they enjoy for lunch. Sounds like a great day for those people who like wine. It's playtime's tours. Check it out.

For there we decide to head for lunch. Chris said she was happy with the vineyards we visited and we could move on. Lunch at the Market was delious! We were eating later in the day so it wasn't too busy. Good prices and good food. Afterwards we walked around downtown St. Helena. Very small town with boutiques on the main street. It didn't take us long to wander and we headed out once again.

my walls are like an ocean kind of relaxing blue and i have beige carpet. and the trim is off white, what color bed covers should i get, and curtains? and other decorations? what are some good colors? also, the room is kind of small, i want to feel bigger. oh, and the furniture is wooden, kind of liiike an orangey wood, but not actually orange. thanksss.

Answer
I see several options here with the first being a beach theme. The blue walls would represent the sun or water while the beige carpet would represent the sand. The white trim adds a nice crisp contrast. Look for a striped bedding set with ALL of these colors and possibly a teal/turquoise. Use a darker blue for the curtains along with a white pull down shade. Add decorative pillows in all of these colors. Simply candle arrangements can be made using a piece of driftwood. Drill holes into it just deep enough to accommodate tealight candles. Another option is to find a nice sized clear cylindrical glass vase. Add sand or sea shells and a pillar candle.

Another option is a spa retreat. Add browns and creams to create this look. Plain colored bedding in either a darker shade of blue or a medium shade of brown along with striped curtains. Look for a large landscape print for the wall. A small table top water feature/fountain would be a soothing addition to the room.

What would be good decor for a beach themed room?

cat & lamb

Anything: paint color, bed spreads, lighting, wall decoration, ect.

Answer
I think that a nice, sandy beige on the walls would be nice. Add pale blue accents with pillows and stuff. Shells and polished rocks are good decorative items(put them on picture frames maybe.) polished glass is nice mosaicced on a bedside table. White is another good color to add as a beach room in usually very light and airy feeling. I like round mirrors too, I guess they remind us of portholes in shipe. Beach towels are usually striped and could even be used as the material to make pillows. The possibilities are endless. good luck.

How to clean rust of metal lawn chairs?

I got these nice used metal lawn chairs from my neighbor across the street and they have some rust spots. I would like to bring them back to (kind of) new again. So what can i do, or use, to clean off the rust?
The rest of the chair is fine

Answer
If it's not a major job to remove the rust spots then just buy a wire brush that fits into your drill. They are only a few dollars and do the job well, even getting into tight spots. If you use a cordless drill the battery will wear out quickly so have a spare battery charged and ready to go if you have one.

Once it's done just buy some spray paint in the colour you like that also has a rust inhibitor in it.

I recently removed the rust from a steel outdoor table and chair set, gave it a respray and it came up looking fantastic. I used a gloss paint but you can go matt if you want. I had mine done in a day. It's an easy job.

How can I convert my indoor pool table for outdoor use?

parickpc

I got an old pool table from somebody for $200, but do not have enough room in my house to put it inside. I want to put it outside on my deck and was planning on using a cover and a tarp to protect it from the rain. I believe that table is solid wood with a slate top. Any more ideas to help increase the life of the table.

Answer
The frame and components of an outdoor table are generally metal. I regular indoor table would not last long outdoors arounf here (New England) due to the fact that they are constructed from materials that are sensistive the moisture and humidity.

Answer
I do a fair amount of traveling during the warm months to medieval festivals and events like Blackstone Raids and Pennsic War, and sometimes it is just easier to stay in a nearby hotel for the smaller events, esp. the ones held in early spring or late fall (not to mention the ability to take a hot shower).
But I actually prefer camping, because my tent is a 16x16 medieval canvas pavilion made by Panther Primitives. It has a 12 foot high center peak with 7 foot high corner poles. I drop a plastic ground cloth, followed by a thick canvas tarp, and finish with a large 8x10 area rug for a warm, dry floor. My bed is made from medieval designs - a wooden frame with mortise/tenon connections, and held together by rope that is woven thru holes in the frame both side-to-side and end-to-end. A thick foam mattress goes on top, followed by heavy blankets and large pillows.
A wooden folding slat table goes in one corner, along with a Viking style two-piece slat chair. Lighting is by candle lanterns that hang from hooks on the center pole or by a modern camp lantern in emergencies. Celtic tapestries adorn the walls, hanging from an interior "curtain" rope. These tapestries eliminate the shadow effect from interior lighting, so no one standing outside can watch the shadowplay and see what I'm doing, and they dress up the interior beautifully. Everything is designed to be taken apart or rolled up for easy transport. It's roomy, airy, and there is nothing quite like camping in a medievally period pavilion.

Firstly, how many questions will the assessor ask?
Secondly, I have a pretty basic summer sleeping bag. Should I try and get another one or will this not matter too much?
Also, how do you pass? Is it easy or hard to do? Do I have to get all the questions right? And I have pasta you can make in a mug, you don't have to cook it, just boil water and mix them together. Is this allowed, or do I have to cook anything?
Thanks for your helpâ¥

Answer
You will get 12 questions you can answer and ten you can't so swot up on wild countryside stuff or just smile ever so nice.
Attitude is the big winner on the DoE. You have to be happy and helpful and not ever do any moaning.
The weather can't be trusted at this time of year but if you take a fleece blanket with you it will help the sleeping bag a bit You can get them from around £6.
Use it as a liner for the sleeping bag, not outside it.
They are very light but they are a bit bulky to pack.
A new sleeping bag will be around £25 cheapest from Millets on special offer for a decent thick one for autumn and winter.

For clothes don't wear cotton. Cotton is a killer in cold wet weather and in UK you get a lot of that don't you?
Cotton undies are OK but any cotton that gets wet in the pouring rain will make you freeze cos cotton is very cold when it's wet so no cotton T-shirts or you'll look like you don't know anything about being outdoors in wild wet and woolly mountains and moorland and stuff.
Wear wool in cold wet places. Wool stays warmer when it's wet. Get good thick woollen walking socks, not cotton ones.

Get cooking.
All the best explorers are expert camping cooks. They know hundreds of brilliant recipes like deep frozen worm sandwiches on a bleak windy mountain, haha.
Honest, if you cook something it's a lot better than instant stuff.
You get a lot more pasta if you buy a 50p bag of it and cook it than you get for 50p as instant trash and you get a proper meal not a trash meal.
A 50p bag of pasta makes five meals if you eat a lot, or about seven if you like smaller meals.
You can make pasta bakes or just add things to the cooked pasta and eat well more cheaply than buying instant stuff.
You can carry enough food for a few days easy but you'll only be out camping for one night for the Bronze so you want enough food for two days.
It all looks good for your assessment if you cook some proper food but you do it because it's good for you, not for the exam.
Pasta takes 12 minutes to cook from boiling. 15 if you like it softer.
Plenty of time to lay the table...OK, the rock or log or whatever ..... and wash your hands again.
Just add enough water to the pasta so it all gets used and none gets wasted or use the excess water to make a sauce. Don't waste anything while you're camping...or at home.
Mix grated cheese or cheese cut into little bits and stir it round when the pasta is cooked and the water is used up and you'll get cheesy pasta. You can add a can of stewed steak or anything you like to it but make it look nice and not a dish of slop and then you'll enjoy it more.
You'll get a smile from the instructor too when he or she sees that care about things and not just slop the food into a bowl.
Keep warm, keep smiling....it's very important...and keep everyone else happy.
Try anyway.
How you help others is part of the deal. So is being happy.
If it rains, dance. Sing to the rain and laugh!
Be a star. Help the others to stay happy. You can all sing together.
Don't moan and want to go home.
The guys know what to look for so perfect wonderful little you is all geared for it aren't you and you'll be totally Brill!!

This is about cooking outdoors. You don't need even a tenth of it but you'll get to know that cooking Sunday lunch on a camping stove or two isn't really so hard, so ordinary meat and three veg which you can cook in the same pot if you get it right, or a pasta bake or a paella or making fresh bread on a mountain is OK.
Bread is easy, especially flatbreads that cook in two or three minutes on a hot plate over a stove. Arabs cook them in the desert. Indian people cook them .
You can make pancakes and omelettes, anything.
Americans spell omelette as omelet. The answer in the link is for an American going to a rave. My answer is the long one.
Anything you cook on a camping stove is the same if it's at a rave or in a ravine.
Camp stoves don't know what's all round them so they cook things just the same anywhere.
So have fun cooking something. It's better like that and you can share things if you like and have a talk round the stove while the food is cooking. It's real camping then when you can cook outdoors.

What to Pack for 5 month trip to Europe

luvlahser

I am considering/in the planning stages of taking a trip through Europe during the 2009 year.

Rather than this being a hectic & rushed, short vacation, I am intending for this to be an extended leisurely trip (at least 4-5 months (if not longer) through Europe.

Because this is not only going to be my first "solo trip" without my parents & family (yes, I know, that's embarrassing!!) but also my first time traveling internationally to a foreign country/countries, with the exception of going to India with my family, to visit relatives, I would really appreciate any help, advice or travel tips that I can get from those familiar with travel in Europe.
