Looking for help putting together a waterfall theme wedding?

Lacey

Hey all, so my fiancée proposed to me at our favorite spot, a waterfall. So in light of that we have decided to do a waterfall theme wedding with blue silver and white. (The blue is the blue in a peacock feather) Now I am finding a lot in beach, but no thank you. I want waterfall. And I am planning on DIYing my wedding so that's not a problem. Would just like any tips, or site suggestions, you could give. Thank you so much!!

Answer
The best solution would be to have a wedding at a waterfall. If that isn't a possibility, you might add specific touches that are keeping with the theme. That sounds like what you want. But you may have to get creative on this, which you've probably discovered. (Like you said, for a beach theme, you can always bring in sand and sea shells, but you can't actually carry a waterfall.)

Turn your venue into a art piece that is reminiscent of a waterfall. Plenty of greenery and stones might help with the setting. Maybe a table-top waterfall fountain on the guest book table or at the entrance to help set the stage for the theme. http://www.shopping.com/Alpine-Alpine-WIN218-Tabletop-Waterfall-Fountain/prices

cascading blue flowers in your arrangements

Reception: White table clothes with a blue table runner that is curved a bit and allowed to hang off the tables on both sides. (Wish I could draw a picture of this.)

Bride's cake is white with a blue cascade of flowers down one side. http://amandascakes.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/aj117.jpg
or this golf themed cake without the golf http://media.cakecentral.com/gallery/631023/1286721830.jpg

or you could even do in white, but with a touch of waterfall http://palermobakery.com/wp-content/uploads/Pwc-10016a.jpg (elegant, but the waterfall theme is still very much there)

http://www.aboutwedding.tk/wp-content/plugins/wpcontent/images/468bb_wedding_cakes_with_waterfalls_3868510575_e852c55a1b.jpg

If any of these cakes are workable, then go from there with your decor. For example, if you use the cake with the white waterfall, you can use white table runners that are curved on top of the tables and allowed to fall off the sides of the white table cloth.

It wouldn't SCREAM waterfall, but the effect could be stunning.

napkins match the table runners, if possible
exotic flowers

sounds like fun.....enjoy planning

I am having a tiffany blue chocolate brown and ivory wedding I need ideas for table decoratios and favors?

Dreamer

anyone has any suggestions it would be wonderful on centerpieces and favors and the theme is beach thank you

Answer
We attended a beach-themed wedding this past may and the center pieces were small vases filled with 'beach sand' and shells or water and floating flowers/candles. Some center pieces were 1 of the above, some were smaller groups of the above. VERY classy. Check into your local dollar store for vases/fish bowls on the 'cheap' side and you can get sand at your local craft store or see if anyone has any they are willing to give you by posting an ad on Craigslist.com (in your local area) for Freecycle.org.

Good luck.

What are some good park/outdoor locations to have a wedding around SLC, UT?

Kylee

We are looking to get married in the first part of August. We are on a tight budget and think that an outdoor park might be a great location for a ceremony without a high cost. What are some beautiful parks around Salt Lake City that you think might be good for a ceremony/reception?

Answer
here are a few ideas for the salt lake area.

for parks, you want to go with the state parks. city/county parks in the area are not that great for weddings. but the state parks offer some very nice places. "this is the place" is an historic area which has some lovely spots for a wedding and reception available for rent. you can rent the pine valley chapel on a saturday for 295 dollars for afternoon and 495 for evening. plenty of other locations at this park as well. http://www.thisistheplace.org/rentals/weddings_receptions.shtml

wasatch mountain st park has a chalet which you can rent for 250 dollars for the entire day. it holds up to 100 people and has a full kitchen. there is a nice fenced in grassy area for an outdoor ceremony included. http://www.stateparks.utah.gov/parks/wasatch

rockport state park has a lovely old church which can hold up to 75 people which rents for weddings. there is also a campground at the old church where you can have an outdoor reception. the church rents for 250 dollars and the campground from 150. there are also 4 pavilions in the park where you could have the reception which rent for 100 each. http://www.stateparks.utah.gov/parks/rockport

parks are an inexpensive venue for a wedding, but you have to do all the work of either providing your own food, table linens and place settings, drink, bartenders, decorations, wedding cake, officiant... on and on. sometimes it is actually a better deal to go with a place where all of that is provided for a flat rate. the following are some ideas for venues where they provide much of what you need for lovely wedding for pretty reasonable rates.

http://www.aspenlanding.com/ they rent their venue for 1000 but include nearly everything you need except the food and drink which starts at around 5 dollars per person for dessert buffet or 7.50 for regular buffet.

http://theoldmeetinghouse.com/ this place offers even the wedding cake in their package. their food starts at 5.50 per person and the price for the place is 1650.

another all inclusive spot is murray chapel and gardens. http://www.wrightwayenterprises.com/mc.htm

two more places to check are http://www.millcreekinn.com/ and http://www.altaperuvian.com/weddings.php

I don't have lots of money, I might be able to buy a house soon and I am a very creative and artsy person. I have always wanted to make my house a work of art, you can't do that when you rent. Anyways, does it cost a lot to do mosaic's? I want to do one for my kitchen backsplash and one for my bathroom. What would a good practice project be, I would like to try it out on something that isn't permanent first like a table or something.

Answer
Have a go at mosaic borders around a mirror (glued on to a piece of ply board) they are small project areas so not too frustrating; and working with smaller pieces fragments of tile, mirror, shell or stone are easier to create and theme with. Broken tile fragments from building sites are free (with permission of course) bits of broken coloured glass look fantastic especially the blues and greens and reds and especially if they have ribs or textures. Coloured marbles (the type kids play with) cut in half add depth and dimension - very inexpensive just to name a few ideas... your only limited by your imagination. I have done mirrors, lamp shades, and a kitchen back splash in ocean themes (live near a beach) they look fantastic. A great Idea.

What are some ideas for a great sweet sixteen party for a girl?

Chancey

I'm turning sixteen soon, and was wondering what the options are for a sweet sixteen party with about 10 people? What did you all do for your sweet sixteens? I'm open to any ideas!!
Thanks :)

Answer
Wow. There's so many options you could choose from. Theme wise? Beach party, Luau, Candy (tons of candy everywhere! Yum!), casino night, etc. Mainly just think about what you like. What fits your personality? Do you like to shop? Then have shopping bags filled with flowers or something as your centerpiece and name your tables after your favorite stores.

Wanna make it really fun? Add a caricature artist to entertain your guests. Maybe rent a photo booth so they can take their own private pictures for the memories. (Some have it where you can get 2 copies, one for a scrapbook for you and the people who took it.)

Hope this helps!! Happy Early Birthday!!

Does anyone know any good proposal ideas for Disney World?

beach table decorating ideas on Here are also some beach wedding photos for reception decorating ideas ...
beach table decorating ideas image

gizmo10150

I'm in search of the ultimate proposal idea at Disney World in Orlando. I've heard of a few, but want to get more information. Has anyone heard of a crown or a glass shoe being braught up to you while standing in front of the Castle with the ring? Thanks.

Answer
CINDERELLA'S ROYAL TABLE ENGAGEMENT PACKAGE

Because it is located in Cinderella Castle, Cinderella's Royal Table is a perfectly romantic place to feel like a royal couple. Proposing at Cinderella's Royal Table is so popular that the restaurant offers an engagement package.

The fairytale dining spot features American cuisine and hosts meet-and-greets with Disney princesses and the Fairy Godmother during breakfast and lunch. The engagement package is available at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

After your meal the server will present the engagement ring in a glass slipper, lying on a bed of fresh rose petals enclosed in a decorative platter with a dome lid. This is followed with a non-alcoholic champagne toast.

During lunch or dinner, you also have the option of a special white chocolate slipper filled with chocolate mousse on an angel food cake pillow, served with fresh berries and a raspberry sauce.

The Cinderella's Royal Table Engagement Package includes:

Preferred restaurant seating overlooking the Carrousel

A photograph with Cinderella

Your meal, including a toast with non-alcoholic beverage

A crystal slipper engraved with your names and the date

A pair of decorated take-home champagne flutes

A Cinderella's Royal Table lithograph

A personal photographer to capture the moment

The cost is $300 plus 6.5% tax and 18% gratuity.

Call (407) 824-4477 at least 7 days in advance to schedule a proposal using the engagement package at Cinderella's Royal Table. I recommend calling even earlier because it can take them quite a while to get back to you!

ROMANTIC PLACES TO PROPOSE AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

If you want to propose in a memorable place at Walt Disney World without buying an "engagement package," here are some perfect spots that won't cost you anything (except, in some cases, theme park admission):

At the Wishing Well, next to the Castle in Magic Kingdom

In front of Cinderella's Castle at night

On the Peter Pan ride, as you fly over the lights of London

On the beach at the Polynesian, ideally just before the fireworks - Sunset Pointe is a perfect spot

At any of the other resort beaches, including the ones at Grand Floridian, Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach resorts

In the France courtyard or Italy courtyard in Epcot's World Showcase, at night (maybe just before IllumiNations)

On the fourth-floor balcony at Wilderness Lodge, overlooking the lake

Of course, any location that is special to the two of you is perfect for a proposal!

What are some ideas to decorate with a birdcage?

jennibean

I would really like to add a birdcage into my decor in my living room to dinning room area (it is one big room). I am not really sure how to do it? I do have a few pieces of coral, some shells, but at the same time it is not beach theme decor. I didn't know if it was as simple as putting in some pillar candles or if it would not just fit with the decor at all. Maybe with candles on the buffet or sofa table? Pictures are greatly appreciated!

Answer
I wouldn't go with the shells since you don't have anything else "beachey":) I wish you would have said how big the cage is. I've got an antique cage that very decorative and is about 4' tall and I painted it a dark burgundy color and then rubbed on antiqued gold highlights. Then I had a piece of glass cut to sit in it to use as a shelf, I put framed pictures in it and a few brass pieces I had, a candle on a pedestal, etc. and I get a lot of compliments on it. If your cage isn't that tall, I've seen some that are very pretty decorated with silk ivy, and then like you mentioned, maybe put your pillar candles in it, small framed pictures, both~or other items you have. I think it would be very pretty on a sofa table, complimented with candles or a couple family pictures on each side! I think you can make them fit into just about ANY decor, just as long as you do decorate them with items that fit in with the rest of your home's theme.
Best of Luck!!

I have a long narrow room in my apartment. Anyone have any good decorating ideas?

It's about 4' x 20'. It's at the back of my apartment coming off of the kitchen. The thing is, it's the only room with a good view (the other rooms all look out on a brick wall). It's currently being used as a storage space, but I'm cleaning it out and I'd like to do something with it, but I just don't know what.

It's currently being used as a storage space, but I'm cleaning it out and I'd like to do something with it, but I just don't know what. I'll try to show you what it looks like. The door comes from the kitchen and there's a bit of wall that juts out.

_________________________________

|_____________| |______ \_________
The view is of some trees and a lake. It's much better than the brick wall view I get from the rest of my windows!

Answer
Four feet wide? Hmmmm - pretty narrow. What was the purpose of the room? I'm thinking it is a storage room. If you have a "good view," you may want to make it look like a porch area, especially if the view looks out to a nature scene, such as trees, a garden, grass, flowers, etc. Real or silk plants in pretty containers, or hanging from the ceiling, or on stands would add to your garden feel and yet take up little space.

Because the room is extremely narrow, you'll need to use small scale furnishings. If there are lots of windows, you could position a narrow bench, perhaps an upholstered bench, opposite an especially appealing aspect of the view outside.

You may also consider a small park-type bench, either wood or wrought iron. Add some comfy cushions and a throw to dress it up.

A couple of small wicker chairs flanking a little round table might work. You might try some narrow bookshelves along the walls, but be careful - don't "line" everything up. Better to have a few defined areas (reading area, desk, sitting area, etc.) than one long, cluttered-looking space. I'd keep it sparse but functional. Maybe you could still use some of the space for storage, concealed behind a decorative screen, curtain hung wall-to-wall, etc.

How do I keep the cat away from the piano?

Sam

My cat will either sit on the bench of the piano or the side of it next to the keys and plays it when he wants something. This is rather annoying as he can't always go outside(weed spray that says keep pets indoors, veterinary reasons, ect) and from time to time it seems its for no reason at all. The piano has no key cover.

Answer
play this song for your cat:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCdnzJejYsc

:P

Now seriously, you have to cover your piano with a plastic cover or something or close the door from the room where you have it placed.
Cats just go and sit wherever they want, even they know you do not aprove it, they will go there when you're not looking.
I have to clean my kitchen table with bleach every day when i come back home because i know they put their dirty paws allover, specially there where they are most likely to find treats. :)
they just can't help it.

How can I make a homemade sandcastle as a centerpiece for tables?

beach reception tables on Decor Ideas For Beach Weddings | Unique Beach Wedding
beach reception tables image

Lisa

I am having a beach themed wedding reception and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what I can use to make sandcastle centerpieces for the tables.

Answer
I'd make it out of an air dry clay, like Model Magic, or if you want to do a castle with squared corners, make it out of foam core and low melt hot glue (for strength), then paint it with glue and press sand onto it. If you actually make it from sand, your chances that it will survive the reception are slim to none, and it will weigh about ten pounds. You can also do round towers out of mailing tubes....or go to Michaels and ask the frame shop manager for the discarded cores of the kraft paper they use for the backs of pictures. The foam core/cardboard tube is the most cost effective, if you are on a budget...and if you are NOT on a budget, contact me and I'LL make them for you! lol

If you email me, I'll send you pics of a castle we did for a summer camp project. Type in Sandcastle as the subject.

I think the theme sounds great! Good luck!

Anybody ever had a small wedding ceremony on a beach?

Ben K

My girlfriend is from Romania. She will be coming back to the states to be with me and we are planning on getting married. She always talks about the beach and everything. So, I thought maybe we could just go to the local county clerk to get the license, then drive down to the beach and get married. Her family of course is in Romania, so there really won't be anyone from her side of the family, so we are probably going to keep it pretty small. Then maybe after we are married we can travel to Romania and show her family. Any ideas or tips about beach weddings? Thanks.

Answer
A girlfriend of mine had a beach wedding not so long ago, and let me tell you it was an interesting event! It was very simple- minister along with parents on each side and an additional witness on each side. I suppose these would have been considered a 'bridesmaid' and a groomsman had it been a larger affair.

Consider the tide! Especially if you're going to have any 'permanent' fixtures set up for your wedding ceremony. Many people don't consider things like tide and weather, especially if their party is small and casual. Are you having your reception on the beach too? That'd be awesome- maybe a bonfire. My girlfriend and her groom had a large dining table set up, and it was all decked out for this incredible reception dinner. She used this company she found online for many of her wedding decorations, and she had the cutest favors (great beach-themed stuff!). I have the site...they have the best prices too!

I want to paint the chairs thatching and all! Theyre metal outdoor table and chairs. Typical aluminum I assume but the seats are a fairly rigid plastic/rubber material thatch. Is there a special product for this application? I plan to paint them and then get new seat pads to lay over. Thx for your help!

Answer
sandpaper the aluminum and any spray paint for metal will be fine. Primer first. Don't paint that thatched part, the paint will come off fast. I got some spray paint for plastic, and it didn't work that great.....waste of 7 bucks.

Where can i find a large outdoor patio table with solid, sturdy legs?

jc

All of the tables i've found are hollow metal and poorly made. They bend too easily and don't stay perpendicular to the ground. Need indoor dining table quality, but weather proof and big. Thinking marble or granite. Any suggestions?

Answer
If you are looking for solid sturdy outdoor table, maybe you can consider buying these 3 kinds of patio table, Iron patio table, teak patio table or wood patio table with stone leg.

First and second type of patio table you can find it on eBay, Amazon and other online store. The last one, you need to customize desktop and stone leg in different place.

If you do not have space to store your patio table, and you do not move your patio table often, you can consider buying a large waterproof outdoor patio furniture cover to cover your patio table when you not use it.

Outdoor patio furniture covers could keep your patio table from dust, rain, bird droppings and so on. It will decrease times of cleansing for you.

Do you have any tips for camping with a toddler?

camping tables for children image

We are taking our son camping for the first time over labor day weekend. He is almost two. Any tips or tricks on activities, first aid, hints to keep him from driving us crazy in the middle of nowhere?

Answer
Find someone to take him for the weekend. Just kidding.

Best things to bring with a young child on an outdoor trip (may sound obvious): good bug spray (mosquito and tick repellent), sunscreen, hat, place to change him (maybe a mat on a table, but something you can wash to rid of bugs/dirt), off the ground playpen (to avoid crawlies and dirt getting into the kids play area), favorite toy, new toys (something to keep them captivated that they haven't seen before).

Activities really dependent on your child, but something with tactile interaction, like a petting zoo or kids museum where they experience something different from home, usually work.

How to decorate for a backyard summer camp party?

Q. My 3 year old daughter is having a camp theme party and want to decorate so you really feel like you are camping

Answer
Make a large wooden sign at the entrance to the "Camp Site" and have other signs pointing the way to the toilets and showers, picnic area and wildlife trail.
Set the tents around a central seating area with the campfire as a centerpiece. Lay out low benches for sitting on or just use mats or planks of wood balanced on rocks.
Decorate the inside of the tents with streamers and balloons
Around the edges of the camp, erect some citronella torches. These will keep the bugs away and add to the camp atmosphere.
Place cuddly toys in the tress and bushes for the younger kids to discover or for the older kids, hang plastic bugs around the camp. Use glow in the dark bugs and stars which will be fun later on when it gets dark.
Hang multi colored Chinese lanterns around the garden. Some kids just can't help playing with candles so be careful where you place them.
Set up a food table and cover with green or camouflage cloth. Use plastic tableware or tin plates and cups. Provide bug stickers for each child to personalize his/her own plate and mug. It saves muddling them up.
You can also add:
Bug stickers and tattoes
T-shirts with the name of the camp and date of the birthday camping party

What can I do with my wife while camping?

hershey hi

I will take my wife camping for her b'day.

I don't think there are any local attractions.

I'll take her hiking, swimming, perhaps make whoopie.

But what else? Roast marshmallows, board games, massage?

Any ideas?

Answer
Try canoeing/kayaking, birdwatching, maybe archery (if rentals are accessible for you) or fishing, board/card games are always a good fallback - especially if it rains. Try cooking her a meal over the fire and/or in a dutch oven. Or try cooking together if that's what she likes. Make it extra special by setting the table with a cloth, wine glasses, flowers, etc. Make sure to bring a decent freestanding lantern and extra fuel/batteries. You'll need it. Zip the sleeping bags together so you can "keep each other warm" at night. And don't forget to bring a first-aid kit...sucks to spend a week wishing you had the tweezers to remove a splinter.
Just make sure it's what SHE wants to do. Some people hate it. Some at least need a place with showers and flush toilets.

Peace, Lov

i'm turning 13 on december nineth and just wondering what an awesome party would be
9th and I'm a girl

thanks~!

Answer
Happy Birthday for December 9th!

There are lots of possibilities for what you could do:

Outdoor:
If you have access to a swimming pool, then you could have a pool party.
You could camp out in the garden with some friends (really fun!)
Crafty:
Do something creative. Have a graffiti themed party. Find a plain wall (on your property though, don't vandalize!) and let out your creative side.
I don't know if you are a girl or a boy, but if you are a girl, just sit at the dining room table with some close friends, get loads of arty supplies, and just make stuff.
Going out:
You could go out to a restaurant, go bowling, go to the cinema, laser quest, ice skating...there are so many possibilities.
Other:
Again, if you are a girl, have a makeover party, or a fashion shoot party.
Maybe have a sleepover, big or small.
Go shopping!
Hire a limo, and just drive around, looking fancy. :)

Or you could go Go-Karting. I've heard that's lots of fun.
Have a fancy dress party?
You could just invite a whole bunch of friends to your house or to a local town hall (a large space preferably) and have a big party, loads of dancing, lots of food, and maybe a bouncy castle. They are always lots of fun.

Good Luck, :)

the chronicles of narnia the lion the witch and the wardrobe?

Q. can someone give me the low down on this movie, i've seen it before but i can't remember everything that happened and i'm trying to watch the second one now.

Answer
War time - mother sends kids off, they arrive at a crazy mansion, with an apparently eccentric master, and an evil "nanny" if you will.

Playing hide and seek, lucy hides in the closet, finds Narnia, and Mr. Tomlinson. Lucy tells the rest of them about it, they don't believe her, but end up going through as well, only to find Tomlinson taken prisioner by the evil witch. They go on a quest to find him, run into beavers who tell them about Aslaan. Edwin jumps ship to go visit his queen, the other two and the beavers go on the quest to find Aslaan, running into Santa along the way.

They find Aslaan, tell them about Edwin, Aslaan's guards follow the wolves back to the queen's forward camp, bring Edwin back. The four of them start training to fight the queen at Aslaan's side, the queen shows up and demands Edwin's life for his betrayal.

Aslaan makes a deal to sacrifice himself so Edwin may live, knowing that he'll be resurrected at the stone table, because he's done no wrong. The girls follow aslan, see him sacrificed, cry, stay there, then ride him to the queen's castle when he's resurrected. The fight looks like it's going on the side of the queen, who's just about to kill the older brother, when all of a sudden Aslaan comes hauling balls down the hill and takes her head off.

Then it fast forwards 30 or so years, the two kings and queens are riding horse through the woods, find the scene that looks familiar, and end up going back through the wardrobe into the mansion from where they came when young, and in a twist, you find out that the old man has been through the wardrobe before too, the end.

What are some very cheap wedding decorating ideas?

I do not really want a lot of money to be spent on decorations because I know the food is going to take up a fair amount. However, I enjoy decorating. I was thinking of different ways to use fake petals as decorations and mason jars. My colors are a bold yellow and darker blue like royal blue. Thank you for any suggestions.

Answer
I bought my bouquet from a florist but bought flowers to decorate the reception space from the grocery store because that was cheaper. I had a beach wedding so I filled mason jars with sand and put a tea light in them. You could do something similar and replace the sand with pebbles or marbles. I also used small metal heart confetti on the tables. U can buy it at the craft store. You could also use regular confetti which is pretty cheap. I found paper lanterns at a five dollars and below store. Depending on when your wedding is, you could decorate with wildflowers and foliage from outside. I also had a sheet cake from the grocery store as the wedding cake. It wasn't traditional but it tasted awesome and was only $75. Hope that gives you some ideas!

I have the site...they have the best prices too!

storage and organization products that are fairly easy on the eye?

bench table kids on Great Southern Wood Preserving - YellaWood Picnic Table - Build It!
bench table kids image

Uh huh, go

I'm looking for storage products that are fairly attractive, like ok to be out in the living room. Everything I see looks too "containerish" or meant for an attic or huge and designed for school classrooms.
Anyone know of any large storage products that aren't so bulky and storage looking?

(for kids toys, extra blankets, magazines etc. just basic storage needs)
It's ok if the design is targeted for children. that's fine. I'm not just not interested in the large bin types.

Answer
you could make a large bench seat with a flip up lid for storage, then get a nice cushion for on top to have extra seating. they have large coffee tables that flip up for storage also

Has anyone seen the Picnic tables that fold into benches?

ChayChay

My uncle has a few of these things. They are two benches that have hinges and they fold together to make a picnic table. I soooo want one of these. My husband is very handy and with his fathers cabinet shop, i'm sure he could make it. Does anyone know where I could get the template to this? Or does anyone know how and could tell me how to make it? I have a lot of kids and this would be perfect for our porch!

Answer
I know what you are talking about, there are no patterns available that I know of. It isn't that complex, a handy person can make their own.
